The Unorthodox Tomb Raider

Although there was a raging wall of fire in front of him, there was an even more terrifying fire behind him. Without thinking, Wu Xie leaped into the air. A wave of heat rushed towards him. Wu Xie couldn't care less about anything else at that moment. He quickly protected his head and rolled to the ground.
Only a few flames caught fire on his body, so Wu Xie quickly took off his clothes and put them on the ground, thus avoiding being burned to death.
Before Wu Xie could react, a scream rang out behind him. Wu Xie turned around and saw that Lao Yang had also rolled over.
Using the blazing fire as a reference, Wu Xie saw that there were no burn marks on Lao Yang's body, but his eyebrows were nowhere to be seen. Seeing that there were also a few sparks on Lao Yang's body, he quickly stripped off Lao Yang's clothes and put them on the ground, stomping on them along with his own clothes in a panic.
Wu Xie then realized that the oil on the spot where the pit was located had been shoveled away, so it was a very safe place.
Just as the flames on his clothes were finally extinguished, another scream rang out in the cave, a scream as loud as a pig being slaughtered.
At this moment, the two saw that Liang Shiye was rolling around on the ground, but the flames on his body did not diminish at all, compared to the few flames on Wu Xie and Lao Yang's bodies.
Liang Shiye's clothes were burned beyond recognition. Wu Xie immediately realized that Liang Shiye must have come into contact with the oil on the ground and the coffin on the way here, which was why his clothes were burned like this when he passed through the wall of fire.
The two men worked together to pin Liang Shiye to the ground and used the damp mud to extinguish the fire on his body.
After the fire was completely extinguished, Liang Shiye was in quite a state, with several obvious burn marks on his back. Fortunately, he managed to save his life.
Seeing Liang Shiye's injuries, Wu Xie took out a water bottle from his backpack and, without thinking, poured half a bottle of ice water over Liang Shiye's back, which made Liang Shiye feel a little better.
Wu Xie then noticed that the fire outside had become uncontrollable, and their area was in the center of the fire. Although the fire had not spread to them, it had formed a circle, trapping them inside.
The coffin outside had been in this damp and dark place for a long time, and after being burned in the fire, the crackling sounds were incessant.
Even the coffin lid flew more than ten meters into the air, making it impossible to look directly at.
Wu Xie knew that the Thousand Corpse Coffin would be burned to ashes, and since they were at the bottom of a cliff, the fire would consume all the oxygen in no time. He had to hurry to the ancient tomb to escape this calamity.
"Damn, Old Wu's in trouble. Grab your stuff, those things are coming."
Old Yang shouted.
Wu Xie didn't understand what Lao Yang was talking about for a moment. When he turned around, he saw several large black rats with their eyes burning red, frantically rushing through the wall of fire towards his face.
Old Yang was quick-witted and nimble-fingered, and the moment Wu Xie went down, he fired and killed three of them in quick succession.
Fang Yun didn't have any good solutions either. Although the suppression of bloodline was terrifying, don't forget that this place was a sea of fire. Those big black rats had lost their minds from being burned. Even if they were facing real prehistoric beasts, those big black rats would fight desperately. Only by coming to this open space could they have a chance to survive.
Fang Yun used the burnt-out torch as a weapon and knocked away several more rats in an instant. However, Wu Xie was too close to the circle of fire, and several large black rats still rushed over and scratched Wu Xie's back.
Old Yang fired a few more shots, forcing the big black rats back outside the wall of fire. Only then did Wu Xie realize that the area around this open space was teeming with rats, densely packed, each one with red eyes staring at the people in the circle.
“Old Yang, you’ve been here before. Hurry up and find the exact location of the tomb. We can’t stay here any longer. If these rats react and pounce on us, there are only four of us. We’ll be powerless and will definitely become their meal.”
Wu Xie shouted immediately.
Chapter 326 The Secret Passage!
Old Yang immediately snapped out of his daze upon hearing Wu Xie's shout and handed the pistol to Wu Xie.
“Master Liang is also injured. Take Master Liang with you. Fang Yun and I will stay here to cover our retreat. We need to find the location of the tomb robber’s tunnel quickly.”
Wu Xie shouted again.
Although Old Yang was somewhat reluctant, he still picked up the trembling Liang Shiye and carried him towards the center of the room.
Wu Xie, holding a gun, and Fang Yun approached Old Yang's direction. Before they had taken more than a few steps, several rats closest to the pit pounced on them with lightning speed, accompanied by a shriek.
Wu Xie raised his hand and fired several shots, hitting three of them. Two more pounced in front of Wu Xie, but Fang Yun reacted quickly and swung his stick, killing the two big black rats instantly.
The sound of Wu Xie firing his gun startled Lao Yang so much that he stumbled and almost fell to the ground.
The rats, hearing the gunshot, dared not rush in again for a short time.
The group quickly moved towards the center of the pit.
Wu Xie subconsciously looked down and sure enough, there was a bottomless hole in the ground.
Only a layer of 19 bricks could be barely seen beneath the ground.
"Old Wu, hurry up, this is the tomb robber's hole. I'll stuff this Liang Shiye in first, and you and Fang Yun come down together."
Old Yang laboriously stuffed Liang Shiye into the hole.
Old Yang seemed to sense that Liang Shiye was almost at the bottom, so he loosened his grip and Liang Shiye fell in. Then, Old Yang jumped in, supporting himself with both hands.
"This opening is far too small. It's cut out in a 3x3 grid, which is just enough for one person to pass through. If you want to get in, you'll probably have to hug your skin."
Fang Yun said calmly.
"We can't worry about that now. Fang Yun, you go down first. I'll cover the rear."
Wu Xie quickly replied.
At this point, Fang Yun didn't need to be so polite; he simply braced himself with his hands and easily got down.
Seeing Fang Yun go down, Wu Xie followed Lao Yang's example and jumped down with his hands supporting him.
Wu Xie was still very scared, after all, it was pitch black inside and he couldn't see anything at all, and he didn't know how deep the cave was.
You can only keep your muscles tense to prevent yourself from falling and injuring yourself when you go down.
After Wu Xie jumped down, he realized that there was only about a meter of space left before he could land, so it was quite stable.
Wu Xie subconsciously stepped on the ground and found that what he was standing on was not bricks, but wood.
"Wu Xie, over here."
In the darkness, Fang Yun suddenly produced a tinderbox in his hand. By the light of the tinderbox, Wu Xie saw that he was standing on a wooden lotus-shaped base.
Beneath the lotus pedestal lay a pile of scattered bricks, the purpose of which was to raise the pedestal to a certain height. Fang Yun and Lao Yang watched Wu Xie from below the lotus pedestal, while by the light of a tinderbox, they could see Liang Shiye standing nearby, his fate unknown.
“Old Yang has been here before, so go find the ever-burning lamps here. Here’s a tinderbox, go and light those lamps, otherwise you won’t be able to see anything here.”
Fang Yun said calmly.
Without a word, Old Yang took the tinder from Fang Yun and ran all the way to light several ever-burning lamps, instantly illuminating the entire tomb chamber.
Seeing Lao Yang's familiar manner, as if he were greeting guests at home, Wu Xie realized that since they were already inside the ancient tomb and the so-called hidden truth was right in front of them, Wu Xie didn't think too much about it.
There's nothing particularly special about this tomb chamber. The walls are all made of bricks, and the ceiling is also inlaid with blue bricks. Apart from the slightly different colors, there's nothing else that's different.
However, probably because the place is damp and dark, mold stains are clearly visible everywhere you look.
Another reason is that the tomb chamber is quite small, so the air circulation seems to be very poor. The musty smell is so strong that it is unbearable.
Seeing Liang Shiye lying beside the lotus seat, his fate unknown, Wu Xie immediately went over to check on him.
Wu Xie touched Liang Shiye's forehead and found that Liang Shiye was burning up and his breathing had become weak, which was caused by excessive body temperature.
Wu Xie quickly took out the remaining half-bottle of water from his backpack and poured it all down Liang Shiye's throat.
Wu Xie pinched Liang Shiye's philtrum a few more times, finally managing to save Liang Shiye's life.
Wu Xie knew there was a group of rats above the hole, and fearing they might get in the way, he pulled out a brick from under the lotus seat and struggled to climb up, trying to block the hole above, though he didn't succeed.
However, if a large black rat were to enter, it would still be noticeable immediately.
After finishing all this, Wu Xie remembered that he was still injured. He had Fang Yun check him over and was relieved to find that he hadn't broken any bones.
The rear half of the tomb chamber contained several coffins, and based on past experience, it should be a joint burial site.
In other words, this is the rear hall.
The largest coffin had been opened, and the corpse inside, number 663, was dressed in armor and wearing a helmet, resembling a Qing Dynasty cavalry general. Unfortunately, his exposed face was covered in mold, making him look quite gruesome.
Normally, after doing all these things while tomb raiding and nailing the coffin lid back on, such a dramatic change shouldn't have happened. It's probably because Old Yang didn't have that much experience.
"That old bastard is a real scoundrel with no manners!"
Wu Xie cursed inwardly.
Wu Xie was about to curse at Lao Yang.
Unexpectedly, Old Yang walked straight to the coffin, took off his belt, made a loop, and put it around the neck of the moldy corpse, pulling him up like that.
Seeing this scene, Wu Xie couldn't help but feel nauseous. The mold on the corpse was too outrageous, and the smell was unbearable.
Just then, Old Yang smiled, as if he often did this kind of thing. He reached under the coffin and pulled it down.
With a cracking sound, a stone behind the coffin sank down, revealing a secret passage to everyone.
"I never expected that such a simple tomb would contain such a secret, and there was even a secret passage."
Wu Xie couldn't help but sigh.
Chapter 327 The Bronze Tree!
Wu Xie walked towards the suddenly appearing secret passage, peering inside to see what was there. Looking further in, he could only see a set of steps sloping downwards. Although there were lights on, the lighting was still not very good, and if he went any deeper, he couldn't see anything at all.
"If only we had a flashlight, we could see clearly. Oh, maybe we should have Old Yang fire another signal flare. But let's forget it. What if this guy really has the same constitution as that fat guy, causing trouble no matter what he does? What if he ignites something down there? That would be a real problem. Let's just forget it."
Wu Xie muttered to himself.
"Now that you've all arrived here, I have nothing left to hide from you. I discovered this tunnel myself. It leads straight down, and the distance is quite long. The temperature down there is quite high, so it's not suitable for a long rest. Given our current condition, I suggest we stop here for a while, rest, and recharge before going down again."
Old Yang said.
Everyone knew that Old Yang had been to the ancient tomb before, so it was best to listen to him in this kind of place. So they sat down in the tomb chamber, picked up the dry food in their backpacks, and ate a few bites.
"Old Yang didn't notice? You know these things, kid. These secret passages are not easy to find. You really can't rely on luck to find them without some skills."
Wu Xie said with a smile.
"Of course, we haven't seen each other for so many years, so you wouldn't know how I've changed. Let me tell you, back then I was carrying a proper corpse-pulling rope. Originally, I just wanted to take off the armor from the corpse and sell it for some money, but before I could even pull it a couple of times, it seemed like I got caught on something. I could only put one foot on the edge of the coffin, and as a result, I lost my balance and fell in—"
Wu Xie quickly waved his hand, signaling Lao Yang to stop talking. The atmosphere in this ancient tomb was already repulsive enough, let alone the scene Lao Yang was describing.
