Davidian's Holy Grail War

"He knew all along, yet he still did it?" Artorius didn't know what to say. Should he be called reckless or had he given up thinking?
While knights certainly took pride in attracting the attention of noblewomen in this era, the difference between the two of them was simply too great.
Merlin smiled and explained to Artoria:
"Because he really had no contact with anyone. He was thrown into such an unfamiliar environment as Britain, and he had no contact with anyone else."
He was just being trained by me in that closed environment, day after day, even with your company. Three years, with only the two of them by his side? Why don't you try to imagine how much emotion he's harboring in his heart?
Artorius understood Merlin's words. If you simply compare these three years, then Davidian was indeed lonely and depressed.
He was accompanied only by an unreliable magician and a peer who could only keep him company and talk to him in his dreams.
Perhaps this is why Davidian often remained silent during the dreams they shared in their final moments together.
Because he had truly said everything he could, his life was neither new nor interesting, and he had no more joy to share with Artorius.
In contrast, her own life was actually quite interesting, with Hector, Kay, Merlin, and everyone in town.
Although she understands from the bottom of her heart that she cannot be a part of everyone's life, at least for now she is still an ordinary village girl among them, enjoying each hard but fulfilling day.
"And it was all too short-lived; the time he spent with everyone else he met was all too short."
He remained fundamentally an outcast, an outsider. Gawain, Tristan, and the people of Kane Village—they had spent far too little time with him.
In contrast, it's no wonder he's so captivated by Tonelli, with whom he's spent so much time. He no longer wants to think about anything else; the thought of simply enjoying the present moment fills his mind.
Merlin certainly understood this idea. After all, he was only 19 years old. What good was his martial arts skill if he hadn't experienced enough?
Moreover, he was well aware that Tristan and Lancelot's instigation had indeed played a role.
This is similar to a close friend of the same age encouraging you to do something exciting. Young people can easily be blinded by such encouragement and even do things that lead to serious consequences.
"But don't worry, once we get to Orkney, things will have to be cut off eventually. Tonelli – or rather Morgan – can't keep it from him forever, and he's not that stupid."
When the day of reckoning comes, he will make his own choice, and I never worry about that; I'm sure he will make the right one.
Merlin showed great confidence in Davidian, believing he would not make the wrong choice.
Altoris felt a pang of guilt, but he quickly suppressed it.
It's better to cut it off now than later. If you wait until that feeling has fully grown into a towering tree that covers David's heart before severing it, it might truly hollow him out completely.
It's a pity that Davidian's feelings for Toneric are already quite strong, and they will only grow stronger in the future.
When the moment of truth arrives, he'll likely be in unbearable pain. Even if this is necessary growth, the price of that growth will be enormous.
"Merlin, what will Britain be like in the future? Can you see it?"
At this moment, Artoria suddenly asked this question, whether out of interest or curiosity, it was unclear.
Upon hearing this question, Merlin showed a thoughtful expression before speaking to Artoria:
"Everyone's future is shaped by themselves. But Britain's future depends on you, on David, and on many others. The future I see is not fixed."
Even the smallest changes each of you makes can lead the story in completely different directions. So you can trust yourself, walk your own path, and create your own future.
At this point, Merlin told a small, white lie: that the future was actually inevitable.
No matter what he says now, the story will ultimately converge in that direction. But so what?
The ending of the story is indeed predetermined, but the process of the story can be changed. It is the path they themselves will walk, and what they will witness is this path.
Chapter 36 Lancelot's Anxiety
When the morning sunlight fell on David's face, he opened his eyes instantly.
After three years of training, his biological clock has been completely set. The habit of sleeping in late has been eradicated from his body; unless there are special circumstances, he will definitely wake up at this time.
The Dark Sword was still on his bedside table, although Tonelli often complained that it was a bad habit of him to keep a dangerous weapon by his pillow to fall asleep.
But Davidian simply couldn't break this habit; he couldn't let the Dark Sword fall into the hands of anyone else. It wasn't that he was worried about losing the sword and thus losing his fighting ability, but rather that he couldn't let others see the future.
"I did sleep well last night, and I feel very relaxed."
He got out of bed and stretched, then slowly began to get dressed. When he finished dressing and went to the living room, he discovered that Tonelli had unusually slept in today.
He smiled and went into the kitchen. Fortunately, Lancelot had prepared the ingredients and cooking utensils for them yesterday.
Let him make breakfast himself today; it's not good to always have Tonelli do it.
However, he had actually wanted to complain about this before: Tonelli was always very meticulous when cooking. It was as if she wasn't cooking, but performing magic.
To the point of precision—how much salt to add, what ratio of water to use, how long and wide to cut the vegetables, and what temperature to raise the fire—Tonerich is absolutely certain about these things, leaving no room for error.
Of course, saying such things would only displease Tonelli. So whenever he wanted to talk about these matters, he would always tap his heart lightly with the hilt of his sword to signal himself to shut up; talking too much would only annoy the lady.
Perhaps this period is when people can truly live a normal life. During these three years of training, he always looked forward to what kind of adventures he would create, what kind of people he would meet, and what kind of emotions he would experience.
Now, it seems he has achieved some of the results he had hoped for.
When Tonelli came down from the second floor rubbing his eyes, Davidian couldn't help but stare in disbelief.
This was a nightgown outfit that Tonelli had never shown to him before, and her figure was perfectly complemented by the loose-fitting pajamas.
With her disheveled blonde hair and sleepy eyes, Davidian swore he had never seen such a cute girl before.
"Hmm? You're already making breakfast? Thank you for your hard work, David."
She yawned, as if she hadn't fully woken up yet. I wonder what's wrong; judging from her appearance, did she not sleep well last night?
"You didn't spend the whole night practicing magic tricks yesterday, did you? Don't overwork yourself, or it won't be worth it."
David smiled and turned back to continue making breakfast in the kitchen, his mood improving even more. Perhaps this was what they meant by a beautiful day starting in the morning.
"No, I just had a bad dream that woke me up in the middle of the night."
As Tonelli finished speaking, a magical glow swept over her, and her attire transformed from pajamas back into casual clothes. She then sat on the sofa and slowly began to tie her hair with a ribbon.
Hearing her words, Davidian became curious and began to ask what had happened. Tonelli answered him calmly:
"It was just a very simple dream. I dreamt that you were standing opposite me, looking at me with the coldest and cruelest expression. At that time, you had become my enemy. You wanted to use the coldest blade to cut open my neck."
Upon hearing his words, Davidian's hand froze for a moment.
Tonelli's words struck him most directly and cruelly, making him think about those futures, those futures he had been putting aside for some time.
He had tried to stop thinking about these things. But now, Tonelli's simple words had brought those unwanted future thoughts back to his attention.
"That won't happen. Even if things really escalate to the point where I'm on the opposite side of you, I will never hurt you. That's my promise, I guarantee it."
Davidian swore that he would never harm Toneric.
"Alright, let's have breakfast. I wonder if my breakfast will suit your taste."
He brought out the fried eggs and bacon, along with toasted bread and fresh lettuce.
Tonelli sat down opposite him and began to enjoy the breakfast that David had prepared.
She had taken his words to heart. The fact that David Ann made such a promise showed just how much she meant to him.
But she also sensed that Davidian was still biased towards Altoris, because he had prioritized the development of events, which had led him to oppose him.
He hasn't given up on his promise; Merlin and Artorius truly hold him dear in his heart.
She knew that haste makes waste, so she decided to take things slowly. Right now, she was the one truly traveling with David, an advantage that Merlin and Artoria couldn't match.
"Oh, you're having breakfast. I was thinking of taking you all to the palace to eat."
Lancelot pushed open the door and came in. He looked quite well, clearly having had a good rest the day before.
Tonelli wiped his mouth before replying, "That's unnecessary. Breakfast in the palace isn't necessarily more reassuring than food you make yourself. I think King Ban, as a monarch, understands this perfectly well, doesn't he?"
Hearing her slightly sarcastic words, Lancelot couldn't help but feel a little helpless. However, he didn't dwell on it, but instead explained why he had come so early: King Ban wanted to see Davidian and asked him for help with some matters.
"Okay, but you have to wait until I've finished breakfast. I don't think Ban Wang would be in such a hurry, would he?"
David smiled, and as soon as he finished speaking, he stuffed another piece of bread into his mouth.
Lancelot nodded: "It's alright, of course I can wait. Mother and Father aren't in a hurry either, after all, many things can't be rushed."
But Davidian could tell after Lancelot finished speaking that Lancelot was somewhat anxious.
Clearly, the matter King Ban wanted his help with was no small matter. Something must have happened in the Kingdom of Benwick; it was best not to waste time now.
This is also a good opportunity to offer some assistance to the Kingdom of Benwick and King Ban. It might prove useful in the future.
So he quickly finished the rest of the food, and then went with Lancelot to the Benwick court. Lancelot's father, King Ben, and his mother, Queen Elena, were waiting for him there.
When the two men saw David and the holy sword at his waist, their furrowed brows relaxed, and joy spread across their faces. With such a warrior by their side, the Kingdom of Benwick would be much safer.
Chapter 37 Participating in the War
“Father, Mother, they have arrived.” Lancelot said, stepping aside to allow David to take a step closer to King Ban and Elena.
While under normal circumstances he shouldn't be allowed to carry a sword into the palace, this was a special case, and there can always be exceptions.
“My son, it seems you have indeed made a remarkable friend. Just from his eyes alone, I can tell he is a worthy warrior.”
Although still young, they already possess the foundation to become legends. And coincidentally, our current predicament desperately needs such warriors.
King Ban looked at David and spoke words of praise. He already knew the general outline of this man from Lancelot and why he had not yet been knighted.
Although we cannot attract him to our side through investiture or rewards, he would probably agree if we asked him for help.
