She wore a white dress, her head drooping, her snow-white hair swaying gently in the wind, tinged golden by the last rays of the setting sun.
After Ke Mingye came out of the stairwell, he just looked at her quietly, and the two of them remained silent.
After a long pause, he asked, "What are you going to do?"
She refused to move aside from the doorway, standing there with her head down, saying, "Today is my birthday..."
"Oh, happy birthday."
Ke Mingye spoke in a low voice and was about to walk around Bai Ziling, but she did not move aside.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
Bai Ziling remained silent, her eyes hidden by the stray hairs on her forehead.
Ke Mingye tilted his head, faintly hearing the sounds of children playing. He turned to the window and looked down. Children with kite strings were running around in the street, the kites swaying in the twilight.
“Mom said you didn’t reply to her message,” she said.
Ke Mingye was silent for a while, then touched his nose and said, "She just smashed my laptop yesterday. I was so angry that I didn't even want to go home, let alone reply to any messages."
As he spoke, he turned to look at Bai Ziling: "Can you let me in now? My mom went out looking for me, and if I come back any later, I'll have to run into her again. It'll be so embarrassing."
"This is my birthday present from my mom."
Bai Ziling spoke softly, then reached out her hands from behind her back and took out an exquisitely packaged box.
"What I wanted to give you, brother, was a tablet. But you weren't here, and I kept waiting for you. In the end, we finished the cake, and you still hadn't come back."
"I don't want yours."
“Every time you get angry, you like to lock yourself away for a long, long time.”
"Aren't you the same? How dare you say that to me?" Ke Mingye turned his face away. "You even cut your own hair that time, what an idiot. I had to get a silly haircut to comfort you, and my classmates laughed at me for half a semester."
Bai Ziling's head drooped even lower.
She said, "So, when you're unhappy, I want to share some of your worries."
As she spoke, she raised her eyes and stared intently at Ke Mingye. Perhaps because she didn't quite know how to make herself appear more serious, her gaze seemed to be glaring at him angrily. Strangely enough, her bright red eyes were wide open.
Ke Mingye had never seen her look like that before, and thought she was really angry, so he quickly apologized and comforted her: "I was wrong, I was wrong, don't be angry."
"I am not angry."
"Your eyes are wide open and you still say you're not angry. A primary school student is a primary school student."
"I'm really not angry."
"Okay, okay, I'm not angry, I'm not angry."
Ke Mingye muttered something as he took the tablet box from her. On the box, written in crooked handwriting, was the words "Bai Ziling to Ke Mingye, no one else is allowed to take it." The handwriting was also fierce, as if it were really warning others.
He looked down at the handwriting and said, "Let's play together from now on."
"it is good."
Bai Ziling remained expressionless, reached out and tugged at Ke Mingye's hand, "Pinky promise, only my brother and I can play."
“You’re a primary school student, right?” Ke Mingye said. “Then let’s pinky swear.” As he spoke, he extended his index finger and hooked it with the girl’s small index finger, then gently shook it.
"Is it done?" he asked.
"Okay. Don't be angry with Mom anymore."
"Okay, I get it."
"And you're not allowed to ignore me either."
"Ah."
"Brother, you mustn't lock yourself up."
"it is good."
Back to the present, Ke Mingye's thoughts were interrupted again by the sound of a plane crashing.
Bai Ziling put down the controller and abruptly asked, "Are you going out?"
"Why are you suddenly going out?"
“You’re not paying attention at all,” she said. “Let’s go to the aquarium.”
“It’s so hot lately, you shouldn’t go out. Stay home more.” Ke Mingye shrugged. “Bai Zini said she’s going home soon. She’s more fun than me. I’ll have her keep you company.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Bai Zini pushed open the door and walked in. She lowered her head and looked deep in thought.
Here it comes.
As Ke Mingye spoke, he turned his head over his shoulder, glanced at Bai Zini who was passing by the sofa, quickly got up, pushed Bai Zini onto the sofa, and handed her the blue and white Switch controller.
Bai Zini belatedly realized what was happening, and then looked up from her dark bangs at Ke Mingye.
"What?" she asked.
"Go play games with your little Ling sister, I'm going to take a nap, wake me up when it's time to eat."
After saying that, Ke Mingye went upstairs without looking back, thinking to himself, "You two better not cause any more trouble. It's best if neither of you goes out. Be careful one of you gets caught by a vampire hunter and the other gets captured by the witch's cult..."
"This witch's cult and vampire hunters are eyeing my two sisters. Judging from their actions, it feels like they're going to turn the whole city upside down and come after us. I don't even know who will make the first move, let alone who they are. If they pull off this, the entire area around Beijing will be turned into a mud pit... Maybe we should just give up and take the train and run away."
"It's because I'm not important enough in the Alliance and I don't have enough seniority. Otherwise, if I had asked Xi Ziyue directly, I probably would have been able to find out what the Witch's Night is all about."
As Ke Mingye pondered this, he moved back to his room, locked the door behind him, and sprawled out on the bed.
He had just turned his gaze to the ceiling when a message bubble appeared in the upper right corner of his field of vision. He raised an eyebrow, clicked to pop it, and the discussion group panel popped up.
[Gastro: Hello, can we meet today?]
[Gastro: Last time I only saw Spider-Man and my paranoid classmate. Could I see other people this time? Like Anti-Dog, Unspeakable Dream, Good Orange Peel, and Ice Cutter.]
[Good Orange Peel: Just to clarify, I'm currently in Japan, but I'm still in this discussion group. You probably won't find me around Beijing.]
[Gastro: Japan?]
[The Failed Man: He is definitely not in the Beijing area; I can vouch for that.]
[The Failed Man: Where shall we meet, and will you bring those vampire hunters with you?]
[Gastro: Of course.]
[The Failed Man: Can you at least show your real body to us? It's so insincere.]
[Gastro: You're making me very embarrassed by talking to me like that, exposing me in front of so many people.]
[The Failed Man: So, will it work?]
[Gastro: We'll see. So, can the anti-dogs come?]
[The Failed Man: He's disappeared; he hasn't said a word for the past two days.]
[Gastro: Wow, that's going to be tough.]
[Gastro: Then let's meet tomorrow. I'll take you to see them, tomorrow at noon, the same old place, that open-air café.]
[The Failed Man: No, you took them to the outdoor cafe.]
[Gastro: Ha, that depends on the situation. After all, I don't completely trust you yet.]
Ke Mingye sighed softly, thinking, "What should I do? Let's see how Gastro reacts first. I hope I can see the vampire hunter by her side tomorrow, but the problem is... if she finds out that I'm using a puppet, then her suspicion of me will increase."
As he was thinking, another chat panel popped up in front of him.
[Cut Ice: Obsessive Search for You.]
[The Failed Man: What do you want from me?]
[Cut Ice: Go to the dungeon.]
[The Failed Man: Just him and me?]
[Cai Bing: Yeah, you two are playing together sweetly. It shouldn't be difficult for you to carry him through a dungeon, right?]
[The defeated man: You're invincible, buddy, why?]
[Cut Ice: We don't know Gastro's background yet. She's only met the two of you. It's not convenient for me and Anti-Dog to show up; if we get targeted during the dungeon run, it'll be troublesome.]
[The Failed Man: What about paranoia? I'm just a puppet. Being targeted by Gastro doesn't matter, but paranoia is a different story.]
[The Failed Man: Last time, Gastro didn't harm me or my paranoia because the Black Judge was in that café. This time it's different.]
[Cut Ice: Then let the obsession die.]
[The defeated man: Holy crap, hacker girl, you're so despicable!]
[Cut Ice: You'd better finish him off, kill the paranoid one. Otherwise, he might fall into Gastro's hands and reveal our information.]
[Cai Bing: Anyway, hurry up and deal with your obsessive adult. With his temperament, if you ignore him, I don't know what he might do.]
[The Failed Man: This is insane! So, which dungeon should I run with him?]
[Cai Bing: Remember that basement the anti-dogs took you to last time? The place where you used the brain imaging helmet on Che Zhengchen.]
[Failed Man: You're not thinking there's a dungeon there, are you?]
[Cut Ice: That's really true.]
[The Failed Man: Oh, I'll go take a look.]
