The Return to Hogwarts
Page 600
Unlike Ms. Hill's excitement, she approached Amosta with dignified and measured steps, extending her delicate hand, her voice restrained and steady.
“It is a great honor to meet you, Mr. Blaine.”
Amosta seemed a little reserved. He hesitated for a few seconds before reaching out, gently grasping Amelia's hand and shaking it slightly, before immediately releasing it.
"Hello."
Amosta pursed her lips and spoke, a strange light flashing in her purple eyes.
"So--"
Ms. Hill, panting, asked with difficulty,
"Mr. Blaine, what brings you to New York?"
"I am here to advance a business collaboration. I submitted a permit through the Cooperation Division for the sale of a peculiar alchemical item in the United States, but unfortunately it was not approved. So, I came here hoping to meet with the relevant personnel."
"Ah, of course, of course--"
Ms. Hill nodded with a smile, staring intently at Amosta and not paying any attention to what he was saying. Amelia, on the other hand, although also blinking her eyes and staring at Amosta, did listen to what he was saying.
“Mr. Blaine, and Mr. Lupin--”
Amelia glanced quickly at Mandy, a hint of helplessness flashing in her eyes. She knew her boss was completely out of control and incapable of handling her core duties. Amelia could only purse her lips and muster her courage to speak.
"According to the regulations, you need to present an entry permit receipt jointly approved by the Wizarding Immigration Office and the Security Department—"
"Oh, of course, no problem."
Remus smiled and pulled two stamped parchments from his briefcase. He hesitated for a moment before handing them to Ms. Hill, but Hill, preoccupied with talking to Amostall, casually handed them to Amelia.
Holding the two application receipts, Amelia hurried back to her desk. She took out a Muggle-like magnifying glass-like scanning device from her drawer and examined each of the blue stamps with constantly twisting text to see if they were forged.
There were no problems with Remus's entry permit. Amelia used a special cutting tool to cut out Remus's photo and key details, pasted them into a small hard-cover booklet similar to a Muggle passport, and stamped it.
Then, she used the same method to get Amosta's entry permit, and the stamp and signature were fine again.
Of course, how could the dignified Amosta Blaine engage in such despicable acts of forgery? However, when Amelia saw the small, shimmering silver print at the very bottom of the receipt, imprinted with special magic, she was stunned.
Chapter 881 The Magic Wand is Confiscated
2024-04-25
Seemingly witnessing something incomprehensible, Amelia blinked her crescent-shaped eyes hard, tilted her slightly upturned nose, which was adorned with a pearly sheen, and moved closer to the line of small silver characters. After confirming she wasn't mistaken, a look of bewilderment crossed her refined and ethereal face.
Amelia made no sound. She picked up the wool brush from the ink bottle on her desk, which had limited space, dipped it in ink, and quickly wrote a line on a piece of paper.
Then, the girl, who had graduated from Evamony less than a year ago, quietly got up and opened a box on a row of filing cabinets behind her that looked like a microwave oven used by Muggles.
Amelia opened the microwave oven door, slipped the note inside, turned the knob to the correct position, pressed a red button, and with a fleeting flash of light, the note she had thrown in disappeared.
Although he was chatting with Ms. Hill, Amosta's attention was at least 80% on the young woman. Because of Amosta, Remus was also secretly observing her. They both noticed Amelia's actions and probably guessed what she was doing, but neither of them pointed it out.
The reply came quickly, accompanied by a slight hum from the microwave oven. The flames once again scorched the dark interior of the microwave oven, and a piece of parchment appeared out of thin air.
Amelia even eagerly opened the microwave oven door, held it up to the light, and skimmed through the documents.
"Mandy--"
Amelia first glanced at Mr. Amosta Blaine with a slightly bewildered expression, and then called out softly.
"What, Amelia, are you done already?"
Ms. Hill asked, and she spoke with great interest to Amosta and Remus.
“Amelia is the most brilliant witch I’ve ever met. She figured out all my procedures in just a week, while the last fool spent six months trying to use the office mailbox properly!”
"Mandy--"
Amelia knew that Ms. Hill had misunderstood. She waved the reply letter and Amosta's reply slip in her hand, and glanced nervously at Amosta Blaine, who was looking at her with concern.
"Perhaps you should take a look at this, they—"
Seemingly realizing something was amiss, Ms. Hill hurried over. She first picked up Amosta's entry receipt and began to examine it. With Amelia's prompting, she quickly noticed the problem.
"The Security Department wants to confiscate your wand, Mr. Blaine?!"
Mandy Hill's voice was a mixture of astonishment and confusion, as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing.
"How could they do this... Oh, is there some mistake, Amelia?"
Then, Amelia handed over the reply she had received at the opportune moment, and said softly,
"The copy of the security department's filing document, issued by Mr. Grevis, requires Mr. Blaine to surrender his wand upon entry and to be accompanied by someone at all times while in the country."
Amosta raised an eyebrow, and Remus's face darkened. They already knew the first clause of the order issued by the Magical Congress Security Department that Amelia had relayed, but the second...
What do you mean?
Does the Department of Security of the Magical Congress of the United States treat Amosta Blaine as a prisoner? Are they planning to keep Amosta Blaine under their control?
"Outrageous behavior!"
Ms. Hill exclaimed, staring intently at the document as if trying to find traces of vomit to prove that the wizard who issued it had been drinking too much Flame Whiskey and was a little confused. But upon inspection, everything was normal.
Remus frowned, and stepped forward to say something, but Amostella raised her hand to stop him, smiling calmly.
"That's right, we were informed in advance."
Amelia and Mandy looked at each other, both somewhat incredulous.
Confiscating wands and requiring escort upon entry are treatments reserved for prisoners or criminal suspects. And Amosta Blaine, with his current reputation, is willing to accept such harsh conditions?!
Not to mention Amosta Blaine himself, even Mandy and Amelia, who were employed by the Magical Congress of the United States, found it hard to accept that one of the most outstanding wizards of our time was being treated this way.
"That's ridiculous!"
Ms. Hill said angrily as she walked toward the microwave oven, “I’m going to write a note and ask them why they can’t ignore the law just because the Grevis family has a lot of influence in Congress. They have no right to make such a decision, not even President Kohauer!”
"Trak Grevis".
Remus whispered in Amostella's ear,
"He was the official who had previously rejected our sales permit applications several times."
Amostah nodded slightly; he had heard Remus mention these things several times before.
Amelia looked at Amosta with hesitation. The superior's order seemed to be inviolable, but at the same time, she also thought that Mandy's statement had no legal basis whatsoever and was a 'random order'.
"Thank you both so much for standing up for me!"
Amosta walked over and stopped Mandy from writing the note. He nodded and smiled gently at the two congressional officials he first met.
"Although I myself cannot understand the Security Department's decision, I believe that they must have made the above decision after careful consideration, so I believe that Mr. Grevis will not be easily swayed."
Everyone knew this, but everyone except Amosta felt indignant on his behalf.
After hesitating for a moment, Mandy whispered,
“I don’t know the specifics, Mr. Blaine, but as I said, the Grevis family was one of the twelve who initially followed Chairman Josiah Jackson in founding the Magical Congress. His family is very powerful within the Congress and has the ability to influence many key decisions. If you’ve come here hoping to accomplish something…”
"Thanks for the reminder."
Amosta nodded.
"So--"
Amosta's arm trembled slightly, and a wand fell into his palm. He handed the wand to Mandy and Amelia.
Amelia accepted Amosta's wand with a hint of awe, then took the wand to the filing cabinet behind the desk and pulled out a brass alchemy machine that resembled a single-panel balance.
Amelia placed her wand on the scales, and the machine began to vibrate slightly. A narrow strip of parchment swiftly emerged from a slit at the bottom. Amelia tore the strip and read the words on it.
"Maple, nine inches long, with a phoenix feather core."
Amelia's breathing quickened slightly. She pursed her lips and glanced at Amosta, then looked at Mandy with a pleading gaze. However, Mandy was still angry about the harsh treatment her family's savior received from the Security Department and did not notice Amelia's gaze.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Blaine—”
Amelia took a deep breath, as if it took a lot of courage to do so. But she still looked at Amosta with a stern face.
"This doesn't match the information registered on your entry application. Your wand should be..."
"Oh!"
Amostella patted his head, blinked innocently, and another wand slipped from his left sleeve. He handed it to Amelia.
"Sorry, I forgot I have two wands. I switch between them occasionally."
Remus's lips twitched. He didn't comment on Amostall's remarks, but looking at Amelia Dett, he suddenly saw a resemblance to Hermione Granger in her.
"Oh, Amelia, I told you, sometimes you don't have to be so serious--"
Mandy looked at Amelia with a hint of reproach.
Amelia's cheeks flushed. She didn't defend herself, but silently placed her wand back on the scales.
"An ebony wand, twelve inches long, with a core made of a dragon's heart ligament—"
Seeing that the information matched, Amelia breathed a sigh of relief. She put the two slips of paper and the two wands into a small wooden box, and then used magic to lock the box.
Watching Amelia quickly making his documents, Amosta seemed lost in thought. As he took the booklet, he suddenly said...
"Could you please convey a request to the security department for me?"
