next moment--
A violent explosion erupted at the center of the flames!
boom! ! !
The indestructible fire shield was destroyed from the inside, and the shockwave from the explosion shattered the layers of flames!
Blue flame fragments swirled throughout the entire vault, and sparks swept across every corner of the vault like a storm, blasting the magnificent carved beams and painted rafters into cracks.
Voldemort stood proudly in the fire.
"That's my true skill!"
He seemed to be standing in a wilderness, surrounded by a swarm of blue butterflies, which gave him a sense of vitality and a gentle breeze.
Of course, the impact of the explosion was actually scorching hot, and the blue sparks continued to burn Voldemort's skin. They showed no signs of extinguishing; instead, they seemed to be taking root like dandelions.
Where the fire butterfly landed, flames rose once more.
The flames carried a numbing stinging pain, so much so that even the fire dragon flinched.
Voldemort's smug expression vanished instantly.
Because he saw the figure standing in the flames.
Cyrus looked exactly the same as before, except that his golden eyes seemed to have become even brighter. His right hand, which held the wand, hung at his side, while his left hand stretched forward, his palm crackling with electricity, grasping a dark green object.
That was one of the dark spells Voldemort had just cast.
Chapter 139 The Man on the Back of the Fire Dragon
"Clap! Clap! Clap!"
A series of crisp sounds rang out in front of Gringotts' gates, and from within the gray vortex, a dozen or so well-dressed Aurors stood solemnly.
Scrimgeour strode up to the goblin who ruled Gringotts. His face was as unchanging as a thousand-year-old bluestone slab, and his slightly lame leg did not slow his movements; he was still as decisive as ever, his black trench coat half-open.
Kingsley and other famous Aurors were also behind him.
However, Moody and Tonks were not involved in this operation. One had already retired, and the other had not yet officially joined the company.
“Frus Scrimgeour,” the fairy dressed like a banker saw Scrimgeour and immediately pounced on him, grabbing his large, aged hand like a fan.
"Where are the prisoners who broke into Gringotts?" Scrimgeour asked without any beating around the bush.
"He's still in the cave. There's an anti-Apparition spell here, he can't escape! I want you to capture him immediately! Hand him over to us!" the fairy roared fiercely.
His tone wasn't exactly friendly, even somewhat commanding, but Scrimgeour didn't bother with that. What mattered to him was the safety of his property in Gringotts.
To put it bluntly, at least half of all wizarding families in Britain have vaults at Gringotts. And the larger the family, the closer they are to Gringotts. If Gringotts were to be robbed, it would be a huge problem.
“Of course.” Scrimgeour nodded stiffly.
He glanced at Kingsley, and the burly black wizard immediately understood, leading several Aurors through the gates of Gringotts.
It was only then that Scrimgeour noticed that the doors of Gringotts had been blown to pieces.
The massive bronze door had vanished—in fact, a large portion of it had crashed into the Patchi Cauldron Shop, and now one wall of the old shop had collapsed.
"I can't believe you only brought so few people!" the fairy said, very dissatisfied.
“The Ministry of Magic has its own plans,” Scrimgeour said calmly. He and the remaining Aurors blocked Gringotts’ exit. If Kingsley and his men failed to stop the intruder, they would be their last line of defense.
"Expand the range of the anti-Apparition spell," he commanded coldly, like a machine.
"You have your own plans? You've wasted time and manpower on those two escapees! Your Ministry of Magic is a bunch of good-for-nothings! You still haven't settled the matter of Tom Riddle killing two goblins!" the goblin cursed.
"Regarding this matter, the Minister spoke with Bodrick of the Goblin Brotherhood through the Goblin Liaison Office a few days ago," Scrimgeour said. "Furthermore, Gringotts has always been under the full management of you goblins, and the repeated intrusions are likely due to your mismanagement. If you can't manage it, then hand it over!"
The goblin seemed about to hurl some more insults, but Scrimgeour simply walked away. The goblin's already ugly face turned a deep, liver-red.
It's impossible to force the goblins to hand over Gringotts. This decision was initially made to quell the goblins' discontent; it was the result of the Ministry of Magic's repeated compromises. If the goblins were forcibly forced to hand over Gringotts, and another rebellion broke out, Scrimgeour couldn't bear the responsibility.
He made sure the Aurors were well-prepared, while Kingsley led a group of Aurors cautiously into Gringotts.
There were still injured goblins in the hall who hadn't evacuated. They had been injured by the spells Voldemort used when he forced his way in; the entire hall looked like it had been bombed, and the protective magic that should have worked was so fragile under Voldemort's attack.
When Kingsley and the other Aurors entered, the goblins in the hall did not act arrogantly.
"Sir, the intruder is in Vault 12—"
Kingsley nodded. In fact, he didn't need the goblins to say anything; he could find the location of the ferocious intruder simply by following the signs of destruction.
He was just about to lead the Aurors into the cave when suddenly the entire mountain beneath Gringotts began to tremble violently. The ground beneath their feet shook, and the hard stalactites hanging overhead seemed to sway as well. The rock pillars that stood in the vast hollow connecting the top and bottom of the cave seemed to crack and splinter...
Kingsley was momentarily worried that the cave would collapse.
If such a massive cavern were to collapse, they would be utterly powerless to resist. Apparition would be unusable, and spells would likely be ineffective in protecting them.
Kingsley was still worried, but the goblins couldn't bear to see their hesitation.
"What are you waiting for?"
Kingsley sighed and was about to call the other Aurors to follow him down when another violent tremor came.
This time it was even worse, so much so that the hall floor cracked like a biscuit, and they almost lost their footing. An Auror nearly fell into the cave, but Kingsley reacted quickly and cast a spell to pull him back.
Then, a monstrous roar echoed from the depths of the cave.
The mournful roar echoed long and deep within the cave, so much so that the sound was completely different, and it was impossible to tell what kind of monster was roaring.
"It's that fire dragon!" The injured fairy clenched her fists tightly, her face revealing barely suppressed excitement. "This time, that intruder will definitely be burned to ashes! You Aurors are no longer of any use, so get out of here! If you stay, we won't give you a single penny!"
The fairy's words annoyed the Aurors, but they didn't react; instead, they looked into the depths of the cave.
There, crimson and blue-white flames alternated constantly.
Flames erupted from the deepest part of the cave like a flood bursting its banks, and a massive black shadow burst through the flames and charged forward. Kingsley saw it clearly: it was a fire dragon.
The Ministry of Magic was aware that a fire dragon was being kept underground in Gringotts, and that this was legal.
No, rather than saying it was legal, it's more accurate to say that when the fairies were raising that dragon, Britain hadn't yet passed a law prohibiting private ownership of dragons!
Kingsley hadn't expected that the fire dragon seemed to have broken free and was somewhat out of control.
Unlike the fairy's confidence in the fire dragon, he felt that the dragon seemed somewhat fearful and panicked. The flames weren't coming from its throat; it looked as if it were fleeing for its life.
It seemed as if something incredibly terrifying was chasing it from within the flames.
But Kingsley didn't have time to think too much.
All he knew was that no matter how wretched the fire dragon looked at that moment, it was still a fire dragon!
It only takes a slight stretch of its limbs to cause massive casualties.
"Stop it!" Kingsley roared.
He picked up his wand, intending to cast an Eye-Bane on the fire dragon when it charged at him.
Dragons have high magic resistance, and even though the dragon in front of him looked very old, Kingsley still doubted whether his magic could penetrate its skin.
"what!"
At that moment, the Auror who had almost fallen earlier suddenly cried out in surprise.
"what happened?"
"There's someone on the dragon's back!"
Kingsley immediately squinted and, sure enough, saw the dark figure standing on the dragon's back.
