Although he didn't know whose prank it was, Malfoy thought the other person was a genius!
That's right, Malfoy still thinks it's a prank. Slytherin suffered a huge loss on the pitch last time, so of course someone wants revenge! Especially Mascu Flint, who was hit by a Curse of the Bump, he's practically lost all face.
He had certainly heard of the Chamber of Secrets, but would a half-blood, a disgrace to pure-bloods, and a Mudblood allow a Chamber of Secrets left behind by Slytherin, one of the Four Lords of the Order of the Storm, to be opened?
Therefore, Malfoy naturally assumed it was a prank. Of course, this didn't stop him from adding fuel to the fire!
Therefore, he immediately read the words on the wall aloud, causing a commotion, hoping to make others think that the murderer was Harry Potter and his henchmen.
Under the gaze of hundreds of eyes, Harry and his companions could hardly conceal their panic. He already regretted not listening to Ron and leaving this awful place, but it was clearly too late. Malfoy's voice first attracted Filch, the poor, hateful old man who was now clinging to his cat like a madman.
Harry had no doubt that, if possible, Filch would make him pay for his cat's life!
"You! You killed my cat! You killed it! I'm going to kill you all! I'm going to—"
"Argus!"
Dumbledore arrived at the scene, followed by many other teachers. In the blink of an eye, he passed Harry, Ron, and Hermione and took Mrs. Norris off the torch stand.
“Come with me, Argus,” he said to Filch, “and you, Mr. Potter, Mr. Weasley, and Miss Granger.”
Lockhart hurried forward.
"My office is closest to here, the principal - it's upstairs - you can -"
“Thank you, Gilderoy,” Dumbledore said.
The silent crowd parted to let them pass. Lockhart, very excited and looking quite pleased with himself, hurried after Dumbledore; Professor McGonagall and Snape followed.
Hundreds of Gryffindor and Ravenclaw students were left bewildered, staring at each other in confusion.
“That’s incredible! Why didn’t we think of getting rid of this cat?” Fred said.
"Perhaps it's because we have a secret weapon?"
"What secret weapon?" Lee Jordan leaned closer.
"Of course it's a dung bomb!" the twins answered in unison.
“That stuff definitely interferes with Mrs. Lorris’s sense of smell.” Li nodded in agreement, then added, “I wonder what Harry and Ron will do. They shouldn’t have stayed at the crime scene after doing that!”
“What do you think, Ginny? That Ron is your brother, right?” Colin turned to Ginny in the crowd and asked, “I don’t think the murderer could be Harry. He couldn’t have done something like that. It would be so sad if Harry Potter got expelled. I wrote to my brother; he wants to meet Harry Potter too.”
He spoke quickly.
Now, Ginny is a little distracted because she is worried about Ron, Harry and Hermione's situation.
"Do you believe the locked room mystery is real? I've never heard of such a thing. The bloodstains don't seem completely dry yet; the cat must have died recently. You're a bit late today. Did you find any traces of the murderer?"
"What?" Ginny's eyes widened.
What does it mean that I'm a little late?
She wanted to ask more questions, but Percy and the Ravenclaw prefects had already snapped out of their commotion and started to organize discipline. Ginny had no choice but to keep her doubts to herself.
"Alright, everyone, be quiet! Line up!" Percy yelled. "And you, you should go back to Slytherin, or I'll deduct points from your record!"
After driving Malfoy away, the hundreds of steps continued forward, but the discussions in the crowd were something Percy couldn't stop no matter how hard he shouted.
“Alright, Percy, let them be,” Penelock Rivat couldn’t help but say.
Back in the common room, Ginny was still thinking about Colin's words. But the room was too crowded, and everyone was talking about what had just happened; rumors about the locked room quickly spread.
'Mr. Riddle seems to say he knows the locations of many secret chambers; could one of them be Slytherin's?'
She hasn't yet suspected that Cyrus was behind all of this.
Ginny was desperate to know if Cyrus had seen the real killer or found any clues while he was controlling her body. It would be even better if he knew where the Chamber of Secrets in Slytherin was!
So she returned to her dormitory alone, laid her diary out on her bed, and drew the curtains.
"Mr. Riddle, do you know about Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets?"
"The Chamber of Secrets in Slytherin? Why are you suddenly asking about that?" Cyrus asked back.
Ginny slowly wrote down what happened after the dinner party.
"I'd like to know, Mr. Riddle, if you've discovered any clues, or know anything about the Chamber of Secrets in Slytherin?"
"The Chamber of Secrets in Slytherin..."
Tell the truth, or hide it?
Cyrus is now in a dilemma. He doesn't know if Tom in the original story ever told Ginny about this, and telling her would obviously be risky.
However, Riddle, at least after meeting Harry, immediately and eagerly revealed his memories.
To speak or not to speak, that is the question.
Chapter 18 Dumbledore
"The Chamber of Secrets in Slytherin is indeed a real thing."
After a brief moment of thought, Cyrus decided it wasn't the right time. The events in the locked room hadn't escalated yet, and the only victim was a cat. If he revealed that memory to Ginny now, and she were to confront Hagrid, he could easily expose himself.
But not saying it also requires a bit of art.
The best approach is still not to reveal everything.
"Really? Mr. Riddle, you know the location of the secret room?" Ginny was overjoyed.
"No, that's not it. Actually, something similar happened fifty years ago. You must be wondering why I received a special contribution award, but the medal doesn't say why I received the award, right?"
Upon hearing this, Ginny nodded subconsciously, but remembering that Mr. Riddle was blind, she forcefully wrote "Hmm!" in her diary.
"This is because I exposed the person who opened the secret room. At that time, a poor student had already died at the hands of the monster in the secret room. I discovered something was wrong and was determined not to cover it up. So I reported him to the principal at the time. Because a student had died, the principal wanted me to keep the news quiet. However, the monster in the secret room had already been driven away, and as for the person who opened the secret room—fifty years have passed, and he may already be dead."
Cyrus said it half-truthfully.
The last sentence seems like a lie, but it's actually the truth.
"As for whether the Chamber of Secrets will be opened again? I don't think so. The Chamber of Secrets in Slytherin opened again and released a terrifying monster, just to deal with a cat? I admit, that cat was indeed annoying, but it didn't deserve to be treated like that. Perhaps it was a prank? I used your body to wander around the castle tonight and seemed to see a figure, but I couldn't see it clearly."
"Is that so?" Ginny, having heard that the person who opened the secret room might be dead, didn't press for their identity. She now trusted Cyrus completely, but she was quite interested in the secret room.
“Mr. Riddle, could you take me to see that secret room from fifty years ago?”
“Of course.” Cyrus marked the location of the secret room where Hagrid used to keep Aragogs, based on his memory.
To be honest, keeping an eight-eyed giant spider in the castle is no different from keeping a basilisk; the two magical creatures are almost equally dangerous. If Tom hadn't already killed someone, leading to Aragog's expulsion, Hagrid would have been in trouble sooner or later.
After getting the answer, Ginny already had a plan in mind.
That night, around midnight, Ginny sneaked out of her room, intending to take a look at the secret room.
There was no one else in the common room by then. She carefully made her way through the area beneath the portrait of the Fat Lady. As she passed through a classroom on the fifth floor, she suddenly heard several familiar voices. Ginny immediately crouched down in the corner by the window.
"Do you think I should tell them about the voice I heard?"
“Don’t say that,” Ron said without thinking, “hearing things that others can’t hear is not a good sign, even in the magical world.”
He worried that if Harry revealed the incident, he might actually be mistaken for the attacker.
Harry sensed something in Ron's voice and asked, "You believe me, don't you?"
“Of course I believe it,” Ron said quickly, “but—you have to admit it’s bizarre…”
“I know this is strange,” Harry said. “The whole thing is strange. What’s with the writing on the walls? The Chamber of Secrets has been opened…what does it all mean?”
“Oh, that reminds me of something,” Ron said slowly. “It seems like someone once told me about the Chamber of Secrets at Hogwarts…it was probably Bill…”
"What's a Squib?" Harry asked.
Ginny heard Harry's strange question, and then Ron laughed. Actually, she wanted to laugh too.
Almost every young wizard who hasn't started school yet worries about whether they're a Squib.
“That’s right—it’s not actually funny—but in Filch’s case…” Ron said, “A Squib is someone born into a wizarding family who has no magical abilities whatsoever. A Squib is the opposite of a Muggle-born wizard, but Squibs are rare. If Filch is trying to learn magic through a correspondence course using fast spells, then he’s definitely a Squib. That explains a lot, like why he hates students so much—he’s jealous.”
Besides, judging from their tone, it seems like they won't be fired?
Ginny breathed a sigh of relief, just then she heard Harry say, "Let's hurry up and go to bed, lest Snape comes looking for trouble with us again and frame us."
So she immediately left from under the window and hid around the corner, only coming out again after Harry and the others had left.
She didn't want anyone to know about the secret room yet, at least not until she was certain that tonight's events were related to it.
"It seems to be over here—"
She hurried down the corridor, and after a while, she reached the secret room Cyrus had marked for her. It was indeed secluded, but there was nothing there. Just as "Mr. Riddle" had said, the monster inside the room had been driven away.
All that remains here is a thick layer of dust and some old cobwebs.
Ginny felt a mix of relief and disappointment.
However, she quickly rallied. Since it wasn't the monster in the secret room that did it, the most important thing now was to catch the prankster.
—Draco Malfoy!
This was Ginny's primary suspect. After what happened during the summer vacation, Ginny had long since come to regard Draco as the inherently evil Malfoy brat, not to mention the strange timing of his appearance tonight.
She wanted to go back to her dorm immediately and tell "Mr. Riddle" her guess, but as soon as she turned around, she saw an unexpected figure.
“D--Headmaster Dumbledore?” Ginny was almost frozen in place.
"Good evening, Miss Weasley." Dumbledore stood at the corner of the stairs; he was already tall, but now he looked even taller. His blue eyes shone like jewels in the night.
