"Watanabe, why you?"

Matsushita Hokuto clearly recognized the other person, and judging from Matsushita's expression, it was more than just recognition.

"I didn't expect that you would be the one to stop me."

The other person looked conflicted.

"Why did you betray Konoha? This is our home, Watanabe."

Matsushita Hokuto looked grief-stricken. He and Watanabe graduated from the Ninja Academy at the same time and were good friends in school. They never expected that one day they would become enemies.

"Betrayal? What betrayal? I've always been an Iwa ninja, so what betrayal of Konoha is there to talk about?"

"Do you know, Matsushita, that you are really too naive? In this cruel world, we don't even have the opportunity to choose."

Watanabe said with a manic expression.

Torn between friendship and the village, Matsushita had no choice but to reveal his kunai.

"You're not leaving today."

"Killing you will solve everything."

War is imminent.

"Fire Release: The Technique of Fireballs".

Matsushita charged forward while forming hand seals, and a huge fireball shot straight at Watanabe.

"Earth escape, earth flow wall."

Watanabe reacted quickly, instantly forming an earthen wall that successfully blocked the massive fireball. The two collided with a deafening crash, shattering the earthen wall into dust. A cloud of dust billowed out. Matsushita immediately rushed into the dust cloud, hearing only the sounds of kunai clashing and sparks flying.

Then only two people were seen flying out of the dust.

"Not bad, Matsushita, your skills have improved so quickly."

"You're good too."

Both sides praised their opponent's strength, but showed no mercy in their attacks.

Matsushita advanced while attacking, while Watanabe retreated while defending. Their strengths were initially evenly matched, but Watanabe's strength had diminished after the long march, while Matsushita had the advantage of being well-rested. This shift in power gave Matsushita the upper hand.

"Amazing."

Sanada, who was watching from the sidelines, exclaimed that he could barely make out two blurry figures intersecting each other by using the Byakugan of the Hyuga clan, while he couldn't see Miwako at all.

"Carrot, can you see clearly?"

At this moment, Sanada was preparing to show off his eye roll and severely dampen Carrot's arrogance.

Carrot never disappoints when it comes to dealing with Matsushita's big face.

"I can see it."

"You see... what did you say? You can see it?"

Sanada couldn't believe it.

Carrot looked up and said.

"Isn't it supposed to be that you can see with your eyes? You can't possibly not be able to, can you?"

Sanada opened his mouth to speak, but then gave up.

"Matsushita, please give me a way out!"

As time went on, Watanabe inevitably became anxious. Konoha's pursuit team wasn't limited to just this one, and if they were delayed for too long, they might not be able to leave.

"impossible."

"I will not let any ninja who harms Konoha go unpunished."

Matsushita stated firmly.

"Since that's the case, then don't blame me for being impolite."

After Watanabe finished speaking, his fighting speed noticeably increased. The two, who had been evenly matched, were now dominating Matsushita. He was buying time. Matsushita, knowing his intentions, only wanted to wear him down to win. He didn't ask Carrot for help; he wanted to send his friend to his doom himself.

"Watanabe, surrender! Come back with me, and I'll plead with the Hokage. He'll spare your life."

Matsushita fought back while trying to persuade Watanabe to turn back, hoping he could still have a chance to live.

"Hahaha, Matsushita, you don't believe me when I say you're naive. I'm just a pawn who's crossed the river and can't turn back. So, Matsushita, for the sake of our friendship, please step aside and let me go."

Watanabe pleaded.

"Impossible, Watanabe. You know the consequences of betraying the ninja village."

"Since we can't win through words, then we'll have to settle things with our hands."

Returning to the most primal form of killing, the two figures constantly changed positions, trees fell and the ground sank wherever they went, ninjutsu was unleashed as if it were free, one resorting to any means to survive, the other in a sorry state trying to intercept.

Both sides were exhausted. Watanabe seemed to sense something, and his expression turned grim. One was happy, the other worried; their joys and sorrows were different. Sensing that reinforcements were approaching, several streams of chakra rushed towards them.

"Sigh, Matsushita, I didn't want to kill you, why won't you listen to my advice?"

After saying that, Watanabe rushed straight at Matsushita. Just as their kunai were about to touch, Watanabe thrust his kunai forward, and Matsushita pulled back, the entire kunai piercing Watanabe's chest.

"why?"

Matsushita held Watanabe, who was about to fall to the ground, and asked.

With blood still flowing from his mouth, Watanabe laughed as he spoke.

"I can't escape. The only choice I have is who I die at the hands of."

"Fortunately, the last person I met was you, Matsushita."

"Why is this happening?"

"Matsushita shouted hoarsely. The pain in his heart was indescribable, having killed his dearest friend with his own hands."

"Uh, uh."

"I thought I would never be activated in my life and would just live like this in Konoha forever. This damn war."

Watanabe spoke softer and softer.

"Don't come looking for me too soon, Matsushita. Forgive me, my friend."

After uttering his last words, Watanabe breathed his last.

Watanabe.

Matsushita shouted.

Chapter 25 Sakumo Hatake's Choice

After three days, Carrot and his companions finally returned to the village.

"You all go back and rest first. I'll report on the mission details myself this time."

Matsushita Hokuto looked distressed, clearly still reeling from his close friend's betrayal.

"Yes, Mr. Matsushita."

When Karot leisurely walked to the door, he found Kakashi waiting for him there.

"Oh, that's really strange, you're not going to carry out the mission."

"Hmph, none of your business. I heard you were attacked by Jonin during your mission. Are you alright?"

His tone remained calm, but you could still feel Kakashi's concern in it.

"Do you think something's wrong with me?"

Karot, fearing Kakashi wouldn't believe him, even spun around in front of him.

"It's okay."

After saying that, he turned around and left.

The busy schedule made everyone forget the passage of time. Four years passed in the blink of an eye. Carrot's strength steadily increased; a year ago, he fought his father, Hatake Sakumo, to a draw, reaching Kage level. Reaching Kage level at ten years old was no longer just genius, but monstrous.

When Carrot and his team returned to the village, they noticed that passersby kept their distance and pointed at them. Due to the difficulty of the mission, it took Carrot's team a full month to complete it.

"He is Sakumo Hatake's son."

"It's truly shameful."

All the previous awe and respect vanished, replaced by derogatory remarks addressed by his name.

Karot frowned, as if he had thought of something, and hurried home. When he arrived at his door, he found Kakashi sitting there with a gloomy expression. Judging from the traces at the scene, quite some time had passed.

"elder brother."

Upon seeing Karot return, Kakashi called out hoarsely. He had never called Karot "brother" before, always addressing him by his given name. It's hard to imagine the immense pressure Kakashi had endured during this time.

Karot, feeling sorry for his younger brother, stepped forward and patted Kakashi's head. He then said...

"Don't be afraid, your brother is back."

After saying that, he turned and went into the house. The once spirited Konoha White Fang was now kneeling on the floor with a dejected look on his face, looking lifeless.
