Ultraman Legend of the Light Chaser

Half of his back was bound with rope.

Ah, her calf was still under the brick; she had almost forgotten it because she had lost all feeling there.

"My leg is being pinned down," she pointed out.

"I know, we're digging," the man replied.

Seeing the man's busy back, she disregarded her leg injury and asked, "Have you seen my mom, dad, and grandparents? They were with me when the house collapsed. If you found me, you should be able to find them too."

The rescue team member who was busy working said, "We've dug out a few people, but we don't know which one you're looking for. You can go to the hospital and ask."

Kumiko's hope was rekindled, and she finally smiled: "Then good luck! After you've finished saving people and I can walk again, I'll bring you all gifts! My classmates all praised my handicrafts!"

The man ignored her and focused on clearing the bricks and stones that were pressing on her legs.

Once her legs were dug out, the man finally turned around, carefully cleared the gap between the bricks on one side of her body, lifted her out, and tied the rope around his waist to her body.

The headlamp was indeed very bright; she could only see a blurry outline before she had to close her eyes again.

"Hey, take it easy!"

Downstairs, Estend shouted at the figure standing on the edge of the building above.

Considering efficiency, the team finally decided that Samuel, who had the best physical fitness test, would climb into the isolated unit from the outside of the building, while Estend would receive the survivors being transported out from below.

So Estend could only watch as his heart pounded in his throat, watching Samuel climb to the top floor with his bare hands, and then watch him stand on the edge, slowly lowering the rescued residents from the rooftop with safety ropes.

Perhaps he subconsciously regarded Samuel as someone like himself. Even if Samuel fell from the tenth floor, let alone the fifth, he wouldn't necessarily get hurt, right? But Estend couldn't help but worry when he saw him climb up with his bare hands.

Kumiko laughed heartily, temporarily forgetting her worries about her legs.

Then she shouted, "Get my family out of here! I couldn't find them at the hospital, so I came to you!"

The dark figure seemed unresponsive. Seeing that Kumiko had safely reached the ground and had untied the rope, it rolled the rope back up and turned to walk into the collapsed building.

Chapter Twenty-Eight: Unwilling to Face

By the time Hasegawa's team dragged their exhausted bodies back, it was already the afternoon of the next day.

On the transport plane, they all looked for dark circles under each other's eyes, but they didn't see any. Instead, they saw faces covered in dust that made it impossible to see their true features.

Mao Sugiyama tried to clean herself by wiping her face, but the more she wiped, the dirtier she became. She finally gave up on her futile efforts and started muttering about what she would eat after she had slept enough.

Yuan Kong was no longer sleepy.

So the remaining few listened to the "snack party" the whole way, and Yamashita Rikuto disgustedly plugged his ears with earplugs.

For the first time ever, Hasegawa Hayato didn't scold anyone; he was sound asleep leaning against the side.

In the words of Keita Kobayashi, "Older people need to pay attention to their sleep."

Estend clearly saw that Hasegawa Hayato's eyelids twitched when Kobayashi Keita said those words.

Meanwhile, in Phoenix Nest, GUYS is holding an analysis meeting regarding the Kiribuyama incident.

Through the slowed-down footage, they witnessed the moment when Bogaru preyed on Sadra.

And then came the strange scenes that followed.

Because of the angle, they couldn't see what happened on the other side of the rock. They only saw a purple light fly out, snapping a tree of medium thickness, followed by a burst of dust and smoke. The tree trunk looked as if it had been slashed by a hurricane with blades, with countless scars appearing out of nowhere.

In slow motion at 1/20,000, they finally captured a blurry white figure.

Shingo Sakami stroked his chin, carefully observing the white figure: "Sadra was preyed upon by that life form, and then that life form disappeared..."

"Then came the light and the trees that inexplicably appeared with wounds," Ikaruga Sadaharu suddenly looked up: "Could you slow down the scene after the unknown life form disappeared?"

"Huh? Okay." Teppei Kuze immediately switched the screen back.

The purple light disappeared after shattering the tree trunk.

Ikaruga Sadaharu stepped forward, staring intently at the screen: "This is the variable ray that caused the misfire of Loader. Teppei, you can pull up the footage from Loader's records for comparison after the playback is finished."

"Ah."

Kuze Teppei nodded.

The video continues.

In the slow-motion replay, in Ikaruga Sadaharu's view, an invisible shockwave blasts against the trees, causing extremely subtle distortions at their edges.

“It’s a shockwave.” Sadaharu Ikaruga finally concluded, turning to look at his teammates.

Then he immediately regained consciousness.

Samuel would run out and charge at Ultra Warriors whenever he saw them on the riverbank, and he accepted being caught in the crossfire.

That open area covered in blood... the unknown life form fighting the white figure... it looks very likely to be Samuel too! Why didn't he tell me he fought someone else?

He didn't want to sleep anymore; he really wanted to get to the bottom of things.

Samuel's room was then filled with his teammates in their pajamas.

Estend told him to confess so he could receive leniency.

“No, I mean,” Estend said, scratching his hair in frustration, “your fight with that predator was almost monitored the whole time. Luckily, there were rocks blocking the view, otherwise they would have seen the rescue team members and the woman in the white coat exchanging light beams?”

"Even if we get caught, what does it matter?" Samuel asked him, puzzled.

Clearly, he had no concept of needing to keep secrets. The Yapool's main task for him was to defeat the people of the Land of Light and assist Estend in gathering intelligence. Whether Earthlings knew he was from outer space or not didn't matter; it wouldn't affect the completion of the mission.

"It's related!" Estend ripped out two strands of hair. He dragged Samuel to Earth hoping to help him escape the control of the Yapools and live a decent life on Earth. But he couldn't tell Samuel that, because Samuel would most likely judge him as a traitor to the Yapools and melt him to ashes with his light.

“Of course…it’s related!” Estend prepared his words: “Gathering intelligence, of course, requires concealment. Your mission is to assist me. Since your alien identity has been discovered, I certainly can’t escape either. That’s why I taught you to get along with Earthlings before. Uh…only by integrating can you obtain more valuable things!”

Samuel nodded, indicating that he understood.

Estend cleared his throat again, intending to go all the way: "And your second task, defeating the Ultra Warriors, as I said before, doesn't mean you have to rush up and fight them every time you see them."

Samuel blinked.

“‘Defeating’ the Ultra Warriors means that Professor Font expects you to prove that you, as his… creation, are superior to those guys from the Land of Light. If he really couldn’t wait for you to kill them, then the mission list should have been ‘annihilation.’ There are many ways to prove excellence, not just simple and brutal battles.” Estend began to play with words, and it was unknown whether Font would be furious and call him a “traitor” upon hearing his explanation.

The reason Fang set the task as "defeating" was actually because he hoped that Samuel could retrieve a few living subjects for research. Given Samuel's brainwashed, linear thinking, there was absolutely no possibility of him understanding the task from another perspective. However, he did not expect that Samuel's mentor, his student Estend, did not actually agree with his ideas.

Samuel's premise: "For example, if you want to be better than Ultraman when they defeat monsters that hurt people, then you have to defeat more of those monsters; if you want to be better than Ultraman when they save people, then you have to save more people."

Samuel understood now: "So you want me to join the rescue team?"

"Hey, that makes sense!" Estend patted Samuel on the shoulder with an honest face that said, "That's exactly what I meant." "Keep it up, Samuel, you've never let us down."
