"Perhaps she has a special constitution, such as being suitable to be a human host."
"You want to send a child to fight alien beasts?!" Jun Sakuma's voice suddenly rose.
Samuel vanished again in a flash.
Huali's voice came from the doorway: "Dad, what are you doing?"
Jun Sakuma coughed. "Found a fly, shooing it away... Are you done washing up?"
"Yes! I'll braid my own hair!"
Sakuma Jun looked closely, then everything went black: "Don't put so many flower hair clips!"
"They're so pretty! I love the bear one, I love the puppy one, and there are also cherry blossom ones and bow ones..."
"You can wear it on your head every day in rotation!"
Karin started eating breakfast, while Jun Sakuma took off his apron, threw down the pots and pans, and turned around to fold his messy bedding.
Samuel "floated" out of thin air again and landed on a corner of the bedding: "It's really dangerous here."
Sakuma Jun snorted, "Ah, then you can go to the guest room. Karin won't rummage through the guests' things. Anyway, you're no more than 10 meters away from me right now, so it's fine."
“Okay,” Samuel thought, “A guest room is fine, it’s more comfortable than crouching in the white, hard-floored consciousness space.” He darted through the wall and said, “I’ll follow you when you set off.”
Even ten minutes of sleep is ten minutes!
The so-called guest room was the one where Jun Himeya was temporarily staying. However, after the last battle with Muchini, Jun Himeya disappeared somewhere on his Stone Wing.
Samuel wasn't worried about losing his teammates; given Jun Himeya's personality, he would definitely be there the next time a monster appeared!
We'll bring him back and raise him then. I really don't know how he can stay in the spaceship forever. Jun Sakuma keeps asking for food and water, and Samuel said he could be kept alive using light energy. Jun Sakuma angrily retorted, "You think..."
Am I a leaf that can survive through photosynthesis?
Yes, Earthlings aren't leaves.
Samuel accepted the fact that human beings need to be fed three meals a day and given water from time to time to keep them alive.
But if he remembers correctly, Jun Himeya said that he spent a period of time running in the mountains every day.
They didn't see Himeya Jun carrying a camping bag, no matter how he looked for food in the mountains.
He managed to crawl in and out alive, but Jun Sakuma almost died after crawling in.
Perhaps this is what makes an excellent human host.
Samuel is now in the temporary room of the excellent human host.
...What was he like when he moved in, or what was he like after he disappeared?
The facilities are extremely simple: a floral-patterned quilt, a puppy roll mat, the kind that Kaori likes.
There was a small, clean cushion on the low cabinet, with two indentations on it, suggesting that things were often placed on it.
Samuel's eyes lit up: Not a bad place.
[The Land of Light's half-baked incompetent ruler can't control his human form.] The soft touch made him drowsy, while he inwardly grumbled, wondering if he would have to spare some of his energy to help heal his injuries the next time they met.
[Why doesn't Jun seem happy when he wakes up this time...] The last few times Jun Sakuma looked like he was seeing a loved one, but this time he just said "Oh" and buried his head in writing under the lamp. Samuel saw the word "self-criticism" blatantly written at the top of the paper.
[I want to change my human form.] Why is the best human form in the hands of that mute guy?
Jun Sakuma had already cleared the dishes and urged Karin to get her schoolbag.
"That Rin could see Samuel is indeed a bit of a problem," he thought. "Should I find Samuel a 'hideout' where he can hide... He seems to really like soft cushions, like a wardrobe?"
"I wonder if he can stand the camphor smell in the wardrobe. That stuff gets all over his head," Jun Sakuma said, beckoning Karin to leave. He continued to think seriously, "Anyway, we need to buy a soft mat and figure out where to hide it. And should we add a blanket? Will he get cold after shrinking?"
While Karin was bending down to tie her shoelaces, a white figure darted through the wall and into Jun Sakuma's pocket.
Jun Sakuma looked down and saw Samuel holding up a lighter. He quickly took it and put it in another pocket—he was so preoccupied with his thoughts that he forgot Samuel didn't like the smell of oil.
“You’ll remember the things you dislike,” Samuel said.
Jun Sakuma opened the door and decided that he must remember to order a small blanket at noon, one that was soft and fluffy, so that no one could see him when he buried himself in it.
As a thoughtful and excellent human being, I must create a good resting environment for O!
"I've done so much, could Himeya Jun do it? Could that madman named Muchini do it?!" Sakuma Jun's fighting spirit ignited: "What Vimorita's human form? I'm the most reliable one!"
Chapter 49 Predation
"Ah... Lord Samuel actually stands on the side of the Earthlings."
In an abandoned shrine deep in the mountains, Muchini solidified the Dark Domain, and the repair and modification of the alien beasts are being carried out here.
Goroki also thought it was a good place to rest—if that madman named Muchini hadn't been muttering incoherently.
“The fifty-third time.” He even counted the number of times Muchini repeated the word, with a sense of amusement.
After Galuberos was defeated again, Muchini seemed to have lost patience with it and decided to use the collected materials to accelerate the creation of a more complete thing.
However, strengthening the alien beasts requires human fear as an energy source, so after the fifty-ninth repetition, Muchini finally turned around and said something different to Goro Mujin:
“Take Arakunai to hunt.”
“Last time you said that once the alien beasts completed their evolution, we could take them down in one fell swoop,” Goro Mokujin patted non-existent dust off his coat. “So, when is ‘complete’? Until they’re all healed?”
"Let's see how much you've gained." The blue orb of light floating beside Muchini had shrunk considerably; it was slowly rotating, constantly breaking off fragments that were being swallowed by the dark shadow in front of it.
If it is not replenished, the ball of light will probably be completely consumed by tomorrow.
Muchini knew that Gouli Mujin had only temporarily reached an agreement with him. This Mephistopheles's host made no attempt to hide his greed for the alien beast's energy, so he said coldly, "Once Beelzebub is born, even if they are in perfect condition, they will not be a match for it—you'd better put in more effort, this is the 'Lord's' divine decree."
Nobody would believe your crazy "master".
Goroki Makoto dismissed it as mere rambling, but he didn't mind sending a strange beast to meet with Himeya Jun, who was probably still recovering from his injuries. Just as he coveted the power wielded by Muchini, he also yearned for the light of Nexus.
The power to control everything—once experienced, it's like tasting the most addictive drug, making one unconsciously crave more.
“Beelzebub? The name of the devil,” Mizoroki also stepped out of the shrine, his figure in a black trench coat disappearing into the shadows. “I hope you can act quickly, and I hope… it will live up to its name.”
……
“Area 6, coordinates 319, a Beast vibration wave has been detected,” Kira Ze Yu’s voice came through Bereg: “It’s Mizoroki Shinya, please act immediately.”
Location 319 is a weaving factory with about 300 workers working in shifts day and night to keep it running. It occupies a large area, with each workshop responsible for different tasks.
The output is enormous, with huge machines stretching across the workshop, and workers scattered in twos and threes around the control consoles of the machine tools.
The first place to notice the anomaly was the outermost administrative building, which was closest to the river. Several department heads were having a small meeting, arguing about funding issues.
They gathered in the deputy manager's office, spitting as they talked. Tech glared at marketing, marketing glared at finance, finance glared at purchasing, and purchasing excitedly decided to use the contracts as toilet paper.
Others unconsciously focused their attention on the contract documents in the procurement officer's hands, which seemed to bear the word "crisis."
The document is positioned so that its side faces the window.
"Please, just take a look at this contract before you sign it! Our legal counsel can't even remember the chairman's face! He's just drawing a salary without working! We'd even be willing to ask him to correct typos!" the purchasing agent said. "If it weren't legally binding, I'd tear it up!"
Wow——!
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a furry black shadow rushed in through the window and pounced on the purchasing agent who was making the most movement.
With a "snap," the double pincers severed the wrist, and the contract was instantly splattered with blood onto the table. Everyone was frozen in time, watching helplessly as the giant, worm-like monster swallowed the purchaser's screams.
The several-meter-tall, mutated insect-like monster, its body hunched over, turned around as if still feeding, its beak dangling a recently plucked tendon, its brown fur stained with blood and crumpled together in pieces.
The few lights in the administration building suddenly went out.
"The meeting's over?" The security guard patrolling downstairs glanced over, then his shoulder blade was shattered by a dark figure.
"Boom, boom..."
Strange noises came from the workshop entrance.
The cooling pipes run over the top of the entrance, but the truly spacious area is actually the back door where goods are frequently unloaded. Therefore, the workers prefer to take the long way around and enter and exit through the back door. Workers who are nearby look at the entrance with curiosity, wondering if there is a problem with the cooling pipes.
"Maintenance! Is there any maintenance?" someone shouted. "Let's go check it out!"
The maintenance worker, craning his neck while clinging to the second-floor railing, happened to see the person shouting being trapped in the monster's pincers.
"Ughhhhhh—!" A high-decibel scream echoed throughout the workshop.
Arakunai turned its body, its slender tail whipping through the second-floor walkway, and the maintenance worker landed at its feet.
The insect monster's face drew closer and closer, and the maintenance worker desperately bent his arms and crossed them in front of him.
"Start attacking!"
An unfamiliar male voice was heard, followed by what sounded like gunfire. The sound was heavy and the power was indeed strong. The monster howled and knelt on the ground.
The maintenance worker noticed the ground shaking and shivered as he curled himself up even tighter. The monster's massive body fell down and nearly hit his leg.
"Target eliminated." It was the same voice again.
The maintenance workers then came to their senses and looked toward the source of the sound.
Several people dressed in blue-black uniforms and wearing helmets were dismounting their guns. The unfamiliar firearms gleamed with a cold metallic sheen in their hands. The first person walked towards him.
"Survivor found, CIC, call for medical support."
Like ghosts that suddenly appeared, or some mysterious special forces unit, the maintenance workers didn't dare to breathe, staring blankly as they passed by them and continued searching into the workshop.
At the end of the narrow passage, a man in a black trench coat stood on the second-floor walkway, looking down from above.
He fixed his gaze on the slightly slender figure.
