chapter Five

Himeko, lend me money for a date.

“…Really, I can’t drink anymore!” Theresa covered her cherry lips with one hand and her swollen belly with the other, looking at Mebius across from her who was holding a blood bag, with a pleading look on her face. She felt that if she drank any more blood, she would not be able to hold back her vomiting. She had really drunk too much.

"With such a small appetite, can you even be called a vampire?" Mebius frowned slightly, shaking his head as if somewhat annoyed by his lack of ambition.

“A vampire doesn’t mean she has a huge appetite,” Theresa couldn’t help but retort. Her blood requirements weren’t even enough to kill someone by sucking their blood.

More often than not, it relies on bacterial-level Honkai Beast infection, which is why Mebius is making her drink so much blood.

That's obviously not going to hold up.

"In that case, forget it." With a gentle shake of his head, Mebius did not insist and handed the blood bag to Himeko with a faint smile.

"Theresa shouldn't have the urge to drink blood for a while. It's already quite good that she doesn't vomit when she smells blood."

"Your thinking is really unconventional." Himeko looked at Theresa on the hospital bed, who was covering her mouth and touching her stomach, and felt a slightly complicated feeling. In order to make Theresa lose her strong blood-sucking urge in a short period of time.

They made Theresa drink far more blood than she should normally eat in order to maintain her normal condition for a short period of time.

At least for the short term, there's no need to worry about Theresa suddenly biting them.

“Next, things might get even more unpredictable.” Möbius glanced at the night outside the window, then reached out to Theresa on the hospital bed. “Let’s go. The hospital can’t treat vampires. We need to go somewhere else.”

"..." Theresa looked at the delicate white hand that was offered, her scarlet eyes flickered slightly, and met Mebius's eyes. Those emerald eyes revealed unreserved trust, so gentle that it made one's heart melt.

She took a deep breath, reached out and grasped the hand that Möbius offered, and was gently pulled off the hospital bed.

Although she was a canary that Otto had kept in a cage since birth, it did not mean that she was without vigilance.

Rather, it's more accurate to say that her intuition was unexpectedly sharp.

However, it was this keen intuition that told her one thing: Mebius in front of her meant her no harm.

That's why they believe it so easily.

"I almost thought you two had known each other for a long time." Himeko chuckled softly as she watched this scene.

She knew perfectly well that Möbius and Theresa had known each other for less than a day, yet they seemed to have known each other for a long time.

“Compatibility, I suppose.” Möbius narrowed his eyes slightly, looking at Himeko with a sweet smile. “Himeko, you know I have no money.”

The atmosphere froze.

"You really have the nerve to be so self-righteous!" Himeko took a small step back, staring warily at Möbius as she spoke, "Aren't you the doctor sent by Schicksal to treat vampires? Why don't you have any money?"

"Actually, I ran away secretly. I've used up all my savings and I don't have a single penny on me," Möbius told a lie without batting an eye.

Upon hearing this, Himeko felt somewhat annoyed. Using her money to pick up girls was truly shameless.

"Please, Himeko!" Mebius looked rather pitiful. "I'll definitely pay you back double when I have the money."

Although she had other ways to make money, those were too troublesome and time-consuming, and she could get the money directly from Himeko.

That would be the best thing, of course.

"I don't have the financial resources to support your research on treating vampires." Himeko shook her head. Although the Valkyrie's salary and benefits were good, it was still not enough to support research; the equipment and facilities were too expensive.

“No, you misunderstand.” Möbius shook his head, turned to look at Theresa beside him and smiled gently. “I just wanted to take Theresa out for a walk, and I need some money to spend.”

“It’s alright, just looking at it is enough.” Unexpectedly thoughtful, Theresa shook her head. She just wanted to see the world depicted in the book; that would already make her feel content.

At that time, even if I were to die, I could accept it peacefully.

Himeko remained expressionless, unmoved by their thoughtfulness; after all, it was her money for the date.

However, she sighed helplessly, took out a bank card, and handed it to Mebius, feeling both annoyed and amused.

"If it's a date, I can afford this amount of money. Just remember to bring me some food when you come back."

“Oh, a date?” Theresa was slightly taken aback, then blushed. “We’re not on a date, we’re just going out for a walk.”

"...Is that so?" Himeko chuckled noncommittally, glancing at the smiling Möbius. She knew that Theresa had no plans to go on a date; she just wanted to go out and explore the human world.

However, she had some doubts about Mebius; this woman's flirting skills were a little too adept.

It's hard not to suspect her sexual orientation.

"Himeko, you're such a good person." Möbius smiled gently, took the bank card that Himeko handed him, and led Theresa out of the ward.

Himeko shook her head, watched the two figures disappear, took out her phone and made a call, instructing Saintess Kallen to secretly follow them.

Although Theresa doesn't seem to have any bloodlust right now, that's no reason to let your guard down.

If Theresa were in a densely populated area, and she could not resist the urge to drink blood, it would cause an extremely terrifying large-scale infection, creating a horrific scene like a zombie apocalypse, and the deaths of tens of thousands of people would be quite normal.

Therefore, someone must secretly ensure safety, and if an accident occurs, Theresa must be killed in the shortest possible time.

That's right, it's about killing Theresa, not controlling her. As long as Theresa's existence is eliminated, the infected and spread vampire virus will be eliminated.

Everything will become meaningless because of Theresa's death.

……

……

A bustling commercial street.

Karen stood alone on the rooftop, blending into the darkness of the night. She looked down at Theresa and Mebius, her eyes filled with complex emotions, and after a long while, she let out a soft sigh.

"Otto, what are you thinking?" She knew the current situation was probably orchestrated by Otto in secret.

That man always manages to control everything, and everything that's happening now is probably all part of Otto's plan.

However, she was unable to decipher the purpose of Otto's plan.

"But it seems alright now." She murmured to herself, then turned and jumped down, disappearing into the shadows to silently follow Theresa and Mebius, secretly protecting everything.

He had no intention of going out to meet Theresa.

And at the same time.

It is in the hands of fate.

"Isn't it interesting? Even though I didn't do anything, people all seem to think I'm the one controlling everything." Otto took an elegant sip of red wine, his expression a mix of self-deprecation and amusement. "The inertia of human thought can be quite frightening sometimes."

That being said, if it were Karen instead, she would probably also think that she was the one who secretly orchestrated everything.

But clearly, he...didn't do that.

"Ha, you really weren't plotting something behind the scenes?"

An unknown voice was speaking to Otto. Although no sound came from the dark room, a conversation was indeed taking place.

That was an exchange of ideas.

“I’m just cooperating with her.” Otto said as if to himself, picking up a glass of red wine from the table next to him and pouring himself a glass.

Then, he slightly raised his wine glass.

"Do you think she really wants something, just to save people?" He narrowed his eyes, watching Mebius and Theresa having a pleasant date on the computer screen, and for a moment he couldn't figure out what she was thinking.

"I don't know." The unknown voice answered readily, "She was one of the most difficult people to understand in the previous civilization."

"Is it possible that her target is you?" Otto chuckled lightly, calm and collected. "The Void Archives—you contain the knowledge left behind by previous civilizations, right?"

“If it were truly her, she wouldn’t need my knowledge,” Void Archives answered bluntly. With the previous civilization already destroyed, the knowledge he recorded was meaningless to Mebius.

Moreover, if Mebius were still alive, his knowledge system would have been updated countless times over.

It's impossible that he would still need the knowledge he recorded.

“What if it’s a clone?” Otto countered with a smile. “Would she need the knowledge you’ve preserved?”

"..." Void Treasury fell silent.

“Suppose that the clone and the Möbius of the previous civilization possess the same… or slightly lesser performance,” Otto smiled. “Then acquiring the knowledge of the previous civilization that you have preserved is, in a sense, equivalent to resurrecting the most outstanding genius of the previous civilization.”

“If that’s the case, then it is indeed possible,” Void Treasury replied, if it really is a clone of that one.

The knowledge he preserved could indeed, to some extent, recreate the most outstanding heroes of the previous civilization.

And that one could become the most powerful pillar in the fight against Honkai.

“Void Treasury, are you sure Mebius is dead?” Otto suddenly asked again, only to be met with Void Treasury’s silence.

After a long while, an uncertain sound came.

"If nothing unexpected happens, she should be dead." Void Treasury was somewhat uncertain. In the past, he could be certain that Mebius was dead.

However, it is not yet certain that Mebius is dead.

“If she really is dead,” Otto said, taking a sip of red wine, his tone as calm and confident as ever, “then let’s make an interesting assumption.”
