Why can't humans do it too?
Page 21
One misconception that must be pointed out is that although humans have zero magical aptitude and cannot connect to magical sources like the Elven Corridor, thus being unable to research or detect magic, they can still use magically created items. To use a game analogy, this would be similar to the profession of alchemist, who has no magic power and cannot use magic, but can release magic through items. The only problem is that humans currently cannot create such items themselves, nor can they find any race willing to provide them with magical items.
That's why expeditions often like to scout out goblin ships when they set out, as it makes gathering intelligence easier.
One thing that had always been a source of regret for Suer was that Riku had forcibly ordered everyone not to bring anything that might attract the spirits back to the settlement, but now he could finally have his fun.
With his hands gripping the wall beside him, Su Er climbed upwards, feeling as if he might faint at any moment. His eyelids were constantly struggling to stay open. He was only slightly alert when he first arrived at the crashed spaceship, but soon he returned to this drowsy state.
'I hope that forest elf comes soon,' Suer thought to himself.
He didn't know how the forest elf had located him, nor whether it could see through walls and monitor all his movements. All Suer could do was make arrangements as best he could. The only thing he was sure of was that the forest elf hadn't chosen to return to its home, but had been following him all along. Suer's shattered consciousness simply wanted to live until he could no longer live even if he used all his strength.
He had found what he was looking for. The goblin-made airship was practically nose-up with its cannons pointing downwards. Because of the angle, Sull hadn't seen it yet. The airship's main cannon was broken, and even the secondary and tertiary cannons were in a crooked and damaged state. Fortunately, what Sull needed wasn't them.
After all, he didn't have the strength to move those things.
It took almost all his strength to pull up a small cannon barrel that had been firing at each other close to the edge. Suer twisted this weapon of mass destruction from top to bottom toward the door of the command room, which was already twisted, tilted and deformed beyond recognition—that's where he had climbed up. If that forest elf chose to open the door, it would be bombarded by Suer in an instant. Even she couldn't survive such close-range damage, could she?
Whether the plan is naive or not, that's at least what Suer intended, and he couldn't do anything else. Besides, if that forest elf hadn't chosen to come in but instead chose to destroy the spaceship directly from the outside using magic, then... if there's a next life, Suer wants to be a bird.
Trying to steady his breathing, Suer had already pricked up his good ear to listen, but after a few seconds he was not satisfied, so he simply lay down and pressed his ear against the cold steel.
The cold, chilly temperature did indeed dispel much of his drowsiness, at least preventing him from worrying about falling asleep unknowingly while waiting and missing the opportunity to fight.
Sizzle, sizzle.
For a moment, only the sparks from the exposed wire-like rope in the command room could be heard. Perhaps due to the rough handling earlier, the cable that powered the gun barrel in Sull's hand flickered with an uneasy light.
clang.
Gradually, amidst the dull, crackling sounds, a completely different sound suddenly rang out.
clang.
The sound was so crisp, so clear that you could tell at a glance that something hard was striking the steel wall, that it struck Suer's heart like a bolt of lightning, jolting his weary spirit awake.
coming!
The unhurried, deliberate knocking sound seemed to be deliberately announcing Suer's arrival, like a vengeful spirit from a horror movie. The crisp knocking gradually became clearer and louder.
clang!
Silently getting up from the ground, Su Er pressed his hands firmly on the launcher button, staring wide-eyed at the broken and twisted door of the command room.
He no longer needed to be pressed against the floor to hear it; the crisp tapping sound was clear enough even when he sat up... as if it were tapping right next to his ear.
Chapter 41 The Fall
The mental drowsiness brought on by instinct had long since vanished without a trace in the rhythmic and unique sound, and Suer had already guessed the forest elf's thoughts in the blink of an eye.
Without a doubt, the madwoman wanted Suer to clearly feel that he was falling step by step into death and unable to struggle to escape. The crisp knocking sound was a tool she deliberately made to remind Suer of his impending death.
If it weren't for the pent-up anger in Suer's heart, he probably would have already suffered a mental breakdown and died during this cat-and-mouse chase that had dragged on for several days.
Meanwhile, outside the command room of the airship where Suer was hiding, the barefoot forest elf walked forward unhurriedly, following the exact same route Suer had taken to enter the airship, completely following Suer's trail.
The light golden-haired forest elf even leisurely picked up a broken steel pipe from the ground; the knocking sound that Suer heard was the sound of it hitting the wall next to it.
clang!
Using magic to create steps in the air, the forest elf leisurely walked upwards, her voice spreading through the power of magic, reaching every corner of the airship. Suer could clearly hear all the joy in the forest elf's words.
She seemed to be in a good mood.
"Although I'm also very curious, why do I still talk to myself like this even though I know Mr. Monkey can't understand me? I even used magic to send my voice to you... Hmm, maybe this is what people in books call the joy before revenge?" The Forest Elf's voice was still as sweet as ever, and even her tone of voice was no different from what Suer had heard that day.
"If you can't hear it, it's like listening to a song without an ending, which is a real shame... I'm not saying this for you, but for myself."
clang!
Mori Seijin casually tapped the steel pipe against the broken railing next to him.
"You can hear me, right? Mr. Monkey~~~", the forest spirit's cute, drawn-out voice sounded like it was pleading, "So, can you tell me where you are~~? If you could just pop out here on your own, maybe I'd be tempted to take pity on you? Ah~, not here."
The forest elf waved its hand and used magic to pull out an iron door that had been twisted and deformed from the fall beside it. It then peered inside, but lowered its head in disappointment.
It was as if I had rediscovered the joys of childhood, happily playing with my toys in my room.
Not believing a single word, Su Er even tried to slow down his breathing to minimize his presence. Anyone who jumped out at this moment would be an idiot, right?
The forest elf hummed an unknown tune, a lighthearted melody, but it carried an eerie and terrifying aura as it echoed through the empty wreckage of the ship, pressing down on every nerve in Sull's body—he almost reflexively pressed the launch button as the pitch rose.
Fortunately, he managed to react at the last second.
That wretched forest elf!
Thanks to that magic, Suer was completely unable to judge the distance of the forest elves by the metallic clanging sounds; each clang and her voice seemed to be ringing directly in her ears—
"Oh~~~, found it~"
The song suddenly stopped, and the tone abruptly dropped; the voice of the forest elf was incredibly cold.
When Suer came to his senses after that brief moment of confusion, he was horrified to find that the door to the command room he had been aiming at had completely disappeared without a sound of breaking—it had been perfectly intact just seconds before!
The forest elf with long, pale golden hair stood at the doorway, stepping on a magical platform, a malicious smile on her lips, quietly watching Sul curled up above her, staring blankly at her.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaa!!!"
As if his nerves had been whipped hard, Suer roared out of control and slammed his fist into the launcher beneath him.
The blue-white light spread along the cable at the speed of light. From transmission to condensation at the muzzle and then to firing, it didn't even take a second. Almost the instant Sull pressed the button, the beam of light that appeared out of thin air blasted towards the Forest Elf who was still standing there.
die! ! !
"Hmm? It can even use the weapons of the gophers?" Even facing this sudden attack, the elf showed no sign of panic, but instead appeared even more gloomy. "Looks like it's not just a simple monkey... huh?"
Disappeared?
The relentless bombardment of the ship's cannons was easily countered by the forest elf who effortlessly deployed seven layers of defensive magic with a mere wave of her hand. Although it was only the smallest ship cannon firing suddenly at extremely close range, blocking such an attack was an easy task for this forest elf. Even if her people saw the seven layers of defense that she could deploy in the blink of an eye, they would surely be filled with bored praise. However, the reason she exclaimed in surprise was not these things.
Mr. Monkey has disappeared.
The monkey who was just curled up on top of his head pressing some button is no longer there—did he escape?
I instinctively wanted to turn my head to look, but it seemed too late.
Almost the instant the forest elf realized that Sull was missing, a gray figure darted out from below her field of vision. As he fell, his wide robe was filled with wind, making him look like a giant bat.
Bang!
Using the momentum of falling from above, Suer slammed into the forest elf, then used his limbs to restrain her body and fell!
The beautiful and complete magic spell drawn in the air was still unfolding, adorned with neat characters like winding vines. The defense formed by the seven spells still hung there, perfectly blocking the beams of light fired from the ship's cannons, but the person it was meant to protect was no longer behind it.
Bang!
Bang!
A creaking, cracking sound!
The two people were falling rapidly.
The ship's interior corridors, which should have been straight and easy to walk through, have now become almost vertical due to the previous crash. Broken and twisted pipes and peeling steel walls protrude from the middle from time to time. This garbage, which was never paid any attention to before, now seems to have become the death knell for the Forest Elf species.
With all its might, it bound the forest elf's limbs, then opened its mouth wide and bit down hard on the exposed throat in front of it!
Chapter Forty-Two: Rolling
Throat, chest, abdomen, nose—anything vulnerable that could become a weakness was what Suer wanted to destroy at this moment. Even if it cost him his life, he didn't care. He just wanted to leave a wound on this forest elf that she would never forget in her long life.
But reality shattered his fantasies much faster than he could have imagined them.
Despite her slender figure, this forest elf was stronger than Sul. Even without using magic to enhance herself, just as Sul's sharp teeth were about to touch her throat, the forest elf broke free with one arm and, in a flash, delivered a muffled elbow strike to Sul's cheek!
The buzzing and dizziness in his mind at that moment made Suer subconsciously loosen his tightly bound limbs, almost releasing the forest elf in mid-air.
Bang!
Bang!Bang!Bang!
Boom!
The two of them were like a falling ball, colliding and collapsing against the various twisted steel walls and pipes suspended in the air. Suer even felt that his internal organs had shifted in the collisions, and his hands and feet gradually began to go numb.
"You monkey—!!!"
"Pooh!"
The forest elf's angry curses were cut short as he was forced to shut his mouth. Suer felt a sweet taste in his throat, and a mouthful of blood sprayed onto the forest elf's face. His fair cheeks, which had appeared to have been slightly groomed, were instantly stained red.
Even though the forest elf could shut her mouth quickly, the gradually emerging metallic taste in her mouth clearly told her what had happened. The forest elf's expression couldn't be explained simply by saying she was filled with murderous intent, but Suer didn't care at all.
Amidst this endless cycle of collisions and falls, he even had the leisure to grin, revealing his already bloodied teeth.
She didn't say a word, but the Senjing's nails, which were deeply embedded in the muscles of Suer's arm, conveyed all her emotions to Suer.
Like piloting a speedboat through towering waves on a stormy sea, Suer held his breath, struggling to maintain his balance and prevent the forest elf from flipping over and standing on top of him. He was controlling the forest elf, making her bear the most direct impacts with her back, instead of him—even though the chances of success were slim.
In fact, when her back slammed through the first pipe, the forest elf had already reflexively erected a magical barrier behind her. However, this could only prevent the penetrating injuries caused by the broken pipes; she couldn't avoid the vibrations from the collision.
Too fast, really too fast.
Less than ten seconds passed between the start of their descent and their imminent impact. Without the support of the Forest Elves and no longer able to hold back, the beams of the ship's cannons pierced through their hull. The wreckage of the airship groaned under the strain, and with a final, deafening crash, the two men slammed through a broken wall and rolled at a high speed through a long, massive pipe—until they struck something.
There was no dust or smoke from the impact, or rather, even the dust that had been clinging to Suer's body had been brushed clean during the brief yet incredibly long fall and impact.
