Deconstruction wizard

5. Special mission

The appearance of a steam locomotive is similar to a large black moving coffin.

It has a boxy iron carriage, four iron-wrapped wheels, and a front-mounted steam boiler that gushes white steam.

From the perspective of a time traveler, this thing is similar to a tractor...

After leaving the fortress of the Colabo Legion, the steam locomotive broke into a wild area full of ruins.

The car, which lacks a vehicle suspension device, follows the rugged ground up and down.

Li Nuo grabbed the edge of the seat with his hands and managed to stabilize his body.

The steam locomotive's travel time was much longer than Li Nuo expected.

At least four hours had passed from the time he got in the car to the time when the faint glow of sunset was scattered behind the dark clouds in the sky.

Just as the sunset was about to disappear, the steam locomotive stopped in a temporary camp.

Such a long drive directly exhausted Li Nuo's energy and made his steps weak.

By the time he got out of the car hungry and was escorted into a single tent by soldiers, there was no light in the sky and only dark clouds were slowly rolling in.

...

Inside the single tent, the coal lamp in the corner emits warm light.

Li Nuo held the dinner plate and stuffed the mushy dinner into his mouth.

"Sir." The soldier standing guard outside the house raised his hand and saluted the person approaching.

Li Nuo followed the sound and looked over, just in time to see a sergeant walking through the door curtain.

Li Nuo immediately put down his plate, stood up and said:

"Good evening, sir."

The visitor took off the hat on his head, revealing short pale blond hair and handsome facial features. Although his body was not as burly as the imperial ensign, he was still very tall and powerful.

He put his hat on the bedside table and glanced at Li Nuo up and down several times, as if he was examining him and confirming his true identity.

What was more unexpected to Li Nuo was that the sergeant's tone of voice was very gentle, not as cold as other soldiers.

"You're Lenore Jarvis, right? Assistant history teacher at City College, Berwaytin."

"Yes, sir." Li Nuo smiled bitterly, "But that was something in the past."

The sergeant took the initiative to extend his hand to Li Nuo, as if the person standing in front of him was not a criminal but a real historical assistant.

Li Nuo was more or less flattered and quickly stretched out his right hand to shake it.

"Let's get to know each other formally. I am Lulenna Mars, with the rank of sergeant, a member of the tomb clearing unit of the Colabo Legion. My duty is to lead the team to perform reconnaissance missions. I am your current and future boss, and

You are the new member of the team."

Sergeant Mars shook Li Nuo's hand firmly:

"Welcome to join you, Jarvis - I won't call you Criminal Soldier No. 888. I've never been able to remember numbers, so it's easier to remember names. In short, I'm looking forward to your performance in fighting the undead."

,do not let me down."

"Good evening, Chief Mars. I am Lenore Jarvis, a criminal soldier. I will obey orders and do my best."

Li Nuo's tone was calm, but he sighed slightly in his heart...

The treatment he received was absolutely different from that of other criminals. The attitude of his commander, Sergeant Mars, was also very easy-going, and there was no sign of deliberately making things difficult.

However, every word that Sergeant Mars said made Li Nuo's heart feel heavier and heavier.

As we all know, the most dangerous team in a march is the reconnaissance team.

This is true even when facing human enemies.

So if the enemy is the undead, how great the danger will the reconnaissance team face?

"Sit down, let's sit down and talk."

Sergeant Mars sat down on the chair opposite the bed and asked:

"Jarvis, you should know that the war between the Empire and the Necronomicon has been going on for a long time. From the fall of the ancient Tardis dynasty to the rise of the new empire, the shadow of the Necronomicon has been lingering over the empire, stirring up chaos.

It makes people panic. So, how much do you know about such an enemy?"

Many memory scenes suddenly came to Li Nuo's mind, and they came from the newspaper headlines in Bevetine City.

According to news reports, many people were executed by the local security department according to law because they had read the filthy manuscripts spread by the Necronomicon Cult in the empire.

Some people went crazy after reading obscene articles and fell into a state of madness in which they harmed themselves or others. Such people were shot dead on the spot by security police.

Some people have a drastic change in temperament and become gloomy and sneaky, just like the weather in a place bordering suffering. They will secretly plan dangerous events and endanger the lives of many people.

Such people are hidden deep in society, but they will always be discovered by agents of the Empire's MI2.

What's more, they worshiped the Necronomicon and committed crimes as a team, causing great damage to the empire.

They secretly formed an illegal force called the "Death Society" and have always been the primary enemy of MI2.

These various social incidents came together to send a warning to Li Nuo:

Be sure not to have anything to do with the filthy manuscripts of the Necronomicon sect, otherwise you will be severely tortured.

Li Nuo's eyes trembled slightly and he responded without thinking:

"The extent of my knowledge of the Necromantic Cult is limited to my education at the City College of Bevetine, sir.

"Other than that, whether I was teaching in a college or being invited by a local expedition team to identify ancient cultural relics, I have never come into contact with any forbidden reading materials."

"Relax, Jarvis, I believe you have not read the teachings of the Necronomicon in private."

Sergeant Mars smiled:

"Otherwise, the person who would come to see you would not be me, an officer from MI4, but an agent from MI2."

Sergeant Mars reached into his inner pocket and took out an envelope and held it in his hand:

"You must be confused, right? Why are you treated so obviously differently from other criminals? I will give you the answer, Jarvis.

"On the one hand, this is because everyone who possesses knowledge is a valuable talent of the empire and should not be treated as cheap consumables. On the other hand, it is caused by the letter in my hand."

Sergeant Mars handed the letter to Li Nuo and motioned for him to open it and read it.

Li Nuo tore off the beeswax and shook out the letter paper.

As soon as he glanced at the content of the letter, his pupils shrank sharply and he immediately closed the letter paper:

"Sir...this letter..."

Sergeant Mars said:

"Listen, Jarvis.

"I now officially grant you the right to read the religious texts of the Necronomicon. You don't have to worry about being interrogated by MI2. I am not a spy of the Death Society.

"I now order you as a sergeant officer of MI4 to open this letter, read the contents of the letter carefully, and write down all the words in the manuscript."

Li Nuo swallowed his saliva subconsciously...

Sergeant Mars met his gaze, emphasized his tone, and said seriously:

"MI4 is the military branch of the Empire that resists the Necronomicon. Recently, MI4 has discovered a way that may give the Empire the upper hand in this war.

"But whether this method is feasible remains to be verified.

"MI4 has formulated a careful experimental plan for this purpose.

"And you, Lenore Jarvis, were selected by MI4 because of your knowledge. This is a special mission.

"Until the experimental plan is successful, everyone and everything related to this plan will be the top secret of the Imperial Military Intelligence Department."

Mars paused and his voice became deeper:

"Accept your special mission, Jarvis, it will give you unparalleled glory and future."

The special mission of the empire... This kind of thing should be very tempting to a pure man from the Tartis Empire, right?

After all, no man can refuse the "call of duty."

But Li Nuo is not a local, he is a despicable foreigner, no, he is a time traveler who is unfamiliar with the place...

In fact, Sergeant Mars' words did not resonate much in his heart.

But there is no other way, who calls him a criminal soldier?

"Yes, sir, I have no choice."

Sergeant Mars pointed to the letter:

"Memorize it, I will be here to guard it. I have to remind you, even if it is punctuation, you have to memorize it without any mistakes. Otherwise..."

Sergeant Mars sighed softly, and his voice became a little more erratic:

"Otherwise, you will be torn into pieces by the evil magic of the Necromancer Cult. Even if the medical team of the Imperial MI3 is by your side, they will not be able to save you."

Li Nuo pursed his lips tightly and lowered his head to read the letter.

Now he knew why the imperial army needed archaeological criminals.

Such a special mission that may be life-threatening at any time can only be undertaken by archaeological criminals whose lives are cheap.
