The Gods' Folly - Eternal Night Worship: The End!
The first volume is now complete! Although it's short, it manages to tell the whole story, and because it's the first volume, it features many new settings and characters that will likely appear in later chapters. Therefore, these settings won't reappear in later setting collections.
This volume is indeed very short, and the story is not particularly dramatic or bizarre. It does give Igris some unexpected advantages, such as acquiring some titles and meeting some people along the way. Overall, the protagonist's highlight moments are relatively few, but after all, it is only the first volume, and there will be more plot developments in the future.
Thank you all for your support. The book's performance has indeed been much better than I expected, which has given me even more motivation to develop the next story.
This concludes this volume. Volume two, and a new story, will soon begin. We hope you will continue to support us.
The Gods' Fool - The Castle's Invitation: Prologue
Mawilkenson is a fascinating town with a rich history of storytelling and tale writing, and this is not just because it has been around for a long time. In many ways, its fame comes not only from its own history but also from its own unique character.
Even though it has an abandoned train track, that track once brought many visitors and businesses to the town, transforming it from a remote rural area into a sizable town with its own history and commemorative festivals.
More and more eccentric people have come to notice this town, and they have also noticed its unique scenery and atmosphere. This has led to more people settling in the town, and it has become particularly popular in recent years. As a result, many shops that were almost nowhere to be seen before have opened up, making the town look more prosperous.
Although most of the shops look nonsensical and probably have little chance of opening, it still shows that the town is indeed vibrant.
With the infiltration of cult organizations completely resolved, the town finally ushered in its safest moment, and the police station had an abundance of manpower, with even two special investigation agents stationed in the town.
However, Igris believes that it was actually because Ling's body had not fully recovered that she was sent to this relatively safe area to continue her duties. Otherwise, an area that was clearly not too dangerous would not have attracted the attention of two Special Investigations agents at the same time.
And Igris received her reward as she wished, ten gold coins, which was a huge sum of money for her. It was almost enough to buy a shop in the town and live a peaceful life for the rest of her life.
However, she wouldn't do that; she was destined not to be someone who could settle down and stay idle.
Because of the destruction caused by that monster, the Rotten Coral Bar has been completely demolished, and it's estimated that there won't be any alcohol for sale in the town for a long time.
Incidentally, it's highly likely that Igris got drunk not because she had a low alcohol tolerance, but because of the sunset sunflower spores mixed in with the alcohol, at least that's what she thought.
After all, her alcohol tolerance shouldn't be that bad, even if she's only eighteen years old.
In his past life, Aaron could drink two large glasses of beer at the age of sixteen without getting dizzy, so she simply couldn't believe the fact that she had a low alcohol tolerance.
Thanks to the private reward given to her by the Special Investigation Department, and the salary that Dr. Derek gave her at the end, Igris (currently can be considered second) is now a person with money. At least she won't feel bad about eating a dessert for a whole night like before.
But she still plans to find a job, since Derain is dead and she is currently unemployed.
However, she wasn't in a rush, since she still had plenty of money, enough for her to continue enjoying her peaceful daily life and eat all those tempting desserts she had been eyeing.
And... while we're at it, let's go check on that Special Investigations Department intelligence officer who's still lying in the hospital.
……
dong dong dong.
Igris gently knocked on the door of the ward, then pushed it open and went inside.
There was no one else in the room except Ling, who lay quietly in the hospital bed. On the table beside the bed were various gifts and fruit baskets, presumably from her friends or colleagues.
After all, not everyone is like Igris, who has no friends and only Pasa visits her when she's in the hospital.
Igris even felt that Pasa hadn't come voluntarily, but was forced to talk to her.
"how do you feel?"
Igris walked over, sat down in the chair next to the hospital bed, placed the dessert she was holding on the table, and also broke off a banana from the fruit basket.
"The doctor said I'll be discharged soon. But you, you looked like you were more seriously injured than me, how come you're all lively and energetic now?"
Igris took a bite of the banana in her hand without saying much. Even though she could tell Ling that she was actually a phoenix and could be resurrected from the fire no matter how badly she was injured, Igris would probably be captured and contained by the Special Investigations Department.
However, Passa seemed to know, but he has never had much professional ethics, so he didn't actually report Igris.
"Pasa told you what happened next, right?"
"Correct."
Ling nodded, then said hesitantly.
"But in a sense, Constantine doesn't seem to be a bad person either..."
She didn't know if she should say that, but when she was with Igris, she didn't need to think so much, because it was just a friendly chat and didn't mean anything else.
"Cultists, that doesn't sound like a good term. That priest believed he was a savior until the very end."
Igris gave a mocking laugh and swallowed the banana in her hand in one gulp.
"But at least he has repented."
"And you? The great hero of Maulkenson, have you gone out into the streets to tell other people about your heroic deeds?"
Ling knew that Igris wouldn't do that; it wasn't her style.
"I don't think rushing up and self-destructing with that monster is anything to brag about. It just means I'm lucky to be alive."
Igris looked around with the banana peel in her hand, but couldn't find a trash can in the ward, so she simply tossed the banana peel to Ling and stood up.
"I just came to see you. Since you're alright, I'll be going now."
"Wait a minute... I have something I want to ask you. Can you tell me the truth?"
Igris hesitated for a moment, then sat back down in her chair and looked at Ling.
"It depends on what your question is."
“Are you really Igris? I mean… your actions are completely different from what is recorded in the documents. I can’t even connect the two of you.”
"That's just a document."
Igris shrugged and continued.
“People always change. Can you imagine Passa telling jokes? But he does.”
Ling frowned, seemingly imagining the scene in her mind, her expression becoming somewhat strange.
"Oh...I really hadn't thought of that..."
However, she quickly regained her composure and continued speaking.
"And Passa asked me to ask you if you want to join the Special Investigations Division."
"Why doesn't he come and ask me himself?"
"Who knows... He might not be able to find you, but he thinks you'll come looking for me."
Igris thought for a moment, then broke off another banana from the fruit basket.
"Forget it, I don't get along with the police. Although it's really tempting, I can't be your new colleague."
Ling wasn't surprised by this answer. After all, Igris's current qualities and courage were enough for her to thrive in most areas, and joining the Special Investigations Department might not necessarily give her a real chance to showcase her talents.
So...you found a new job?
How did you know I was looking for a job?
Iglesias felt she might have said something pointless, given that Maulkenson was practically swarming with their informants.
"You know what? A friend just came to see me, wanting to ask for my help, but seeing my injuries, she was too embarrassed to go into details. But I was thinking, maybe you could be of help?"
"I need to find out the specifics."
Hearing Igris's reply, Ling was very happy and continued.
"She's a detective, a private detective, and she's currently handling a case that requires an assistant, so I just happened to think of you... Assistant, you'll be able to help, right?"
Igris took a bite of the banana and said, puffing out her cheeks.
"Another detective... anything involving detectives is never good. I don't want to run into another Derain,"
"This is also an offer of employment; she can offer a weekly wage of ten silver dollars."
Ten silver dollars is equivalent to one gold note, but Igris definitely prefers the feel of silver dollars.
Three days ago, she probably would have agreed without hesitation, but she is not short of money at the moment, so she has no intention of getting involved with the detective.
"I refuse. Right now, I just want to stay far away from all detectives."
"Perhaps you could meet?"
"I'm busy."
"Turn around."
Igris swallowed the banana in her hand, turned around, and a dark-haired girl standing quietly in the doorway came into her view.
Wearing a short skirt, long boots, a purple coat, a black inner layer, and a small hat on her head, Igris didn't look like a detective at all; instead, she seemed like a young lady about to attend a ball.
Igris is now even more resistant.
"Nice to meet you."
The girl walked over, smiled politely at Igris, and extended her hand.
Igris handed her the banana peel, and while she was still in a daze, she turned to look at Ling.
“We’ve already met, but I’m not going to change my mind. She doesn’t seem that reliable.”
Speaking ill of others in front of them—I guess only Igris would do that.
"Okay, I tried my best."
Ling sighed helplessly. After all, it was just a request, and it was understandable that it was rejected.
"If you're not satisfied with your salary, I can increase it."
The black-haired girl, however, did not seem to want to let Igris off so easily, and it was clear from one thing that she was indeed very rich.
"No, miss, you may have misunderstood. What I'm dissatisfied with isn't the salary, but you."
Igris made no attempt to hide the malice in her words.
