"There are also six B-2 bombers, carrying N2 bombs. The combined yield is probably around one million tons. Ha, they're using this firepower on us instead of the Apostles."

Shinji Ikari remained silent.

“Shinji-kun,” Misato Katsuragi’s voice broke in, less energetic and more hoarse than usual, “the army outside… there are at least fifty thousand. Tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, everything. They really intend to—”

"I know."

Shinji Ikari interrupted her, his voice as calm as if he were discussing the weather.

He turned to look at the others—Miri Katsuragi, Ritsuko Akagi, and those who had chosen to stay. Their faces showed fear and unease, but more than anything, a complex, indescribable emotion.

“You can leave,” he said. “It’s not too late. The passageways are still open. Go out through the emergency exits, head into the mountains, and towards my shelter. That will be the safest place.”

"Alright, alright." Misato Katsuragi waved her hand and rolled her eyes. "Are you trying to make us feel guilty by saying things like this now?"

Shinji Ikari paused for a second, then slightly raised the corners of his mouth. The smile was faint, so faint that it was almost invisible, but it was indeed a smile.

"Look on the bright side, after we win, we'll all be saviors," Kaji Ryoji said with a nonchalant laugh.

"Everyone could even snag a high-ranking official position!"

The joke eased the tense atmosphere before the battle, and then Shinji Ikari went to where he was supposed to go.

On the ground, UN forces' positions stretched for dozens of kilometers in the pre-dawn darkness.

Tanks, armored vehicles, and self-propelled artillery were lined up in neat squares, soldiers stood ready in the trenches, and missile launchers were raised high, pointing in the direction of NERV headquarters. In the sky, groups of armed helicopters circled, and reconnaissance aircraft constantly transmitted the latest image data. On the distant sea, the outline of an aircraft carrier battle group was faintly visible, ready to launch a fatal strike at any moment.

"Attention, all units!" The commander's voice came through the communication channel. "Target area confirmed. The main enemy resistance consists of three EVA units. According to intelligence, these units rely on external cables for power. Once the cables are cut, they can only maintain combat readiness for five minutes."

"To be repeated, they can only last for five minutes after the cables are cut."

"First wave of attacks target: cables. Second wave of attacks target: NERV headquarters facilities. Third wave of attacks target: EVA units."

"All units in position, countdown begins."

The commander put down the communicator and looked through his binoculars at the distant base shrouded in darkness. A cold smile played on his lips.

Three robots, and they have an army of 50,000, hundreds of aircraft, dozens of warships, and nuclear weapons.

Even if those robots are incredibly powerful, so what? Faced with such overwhelming firepower, they're nothing more than children's toys!

"Countdown complete." He picked up the communicator. "All departments—"

The ground suddenly shook, and the commander looked up, his eyes widening slightly.

The ground at NERV headquarters slowly cracked open, and three enormous figures rose from the ground—

Purple. Yellow. Red.

Three EVAs stood side by side, blocking all paths leading to NERV headquarters.

Unit-01 stood in the center, arms hanging naturally at its sides, head slightly bowed, like a contemplative giant or a praying icon. Unit-00 was on the left, its yellow armor reflecting a cold light under the searchlights. Unit-02 was on the right, its red body like a burning flame.

They didn't move; they just stood there quietly. Their mission was simply to protect this place, not to chase after and kill.

"Tch." The commander sneered. "Playing tricks. Fire!"

The first wave of attacks has begun.

Hundreds of missiles launched simultaneously, trailing long plumes of fire as they hurtled toward the three stationary targets. Tanks opened fire, shells raining down like a storm. Armed helicopters fired anti-tank missiles, encircling the targets from all directions.

The three EVAs simultaneously raised their heads, sat in unison, and spread their arms out. Then, an invisible wall unfolded in front of them—the AT field.

The missile struck the transparent barrier, exploding in flames and smoke, obscuring everyone's vision. Artillery shells exploded outside the force field, scattering fragments everywhere. The attack helicopter's missiles were equally futile, shattering upon impact with the force field.

As the smoke cleared, the three EVA units remained standing in the same spot, completely still.

This is the AT perspective, a phenomenon and manifestation that is completely incomprehensible to modern human technology, a dimensional barrier beyond the reach of human science.

"Continue!" the commander gritted his teeth. "Saturation attack! I refuse to believe we can't break through!"

The second wave, the third wave, the fourth wave—

The coalition forces unleashed a barrage of fire for a full ten minutes. The surrounding mountains were utterly devastated, the ground riddled with craters, and smoke billowed, obscuring the sky.

But the three EVAs remained standing there, raising their hands in unison. Their AT fields acted like an insurmountable divine barrier, keeping all attacks at bay.

"Sir!" a technician shouted, "Their AT field strength is decreasing! Continuous attacks are effective!"

An excited glint flashed in the commander's eyes: "Keep going! Don't stop!"

Another five minutes of relentless bombardment, and finally—

"The cables! Their cables have been blown up!"

"Good, it worked!!!" The commander clenched his fist and exclaimed happily.

He looked at the three EVAs on the monitor screen—the cables behind them had indeed been severed, sparks flying from the breaks before the power went out completely. Giants without an energy supply were like machines without power.

“Three hundred seconds,” he murmured. “After three hundred seconds, they will completely shut down.”

On the battlefield, the smoke of battle gradually dissipated.

The three EVA units remained standing, but all the UN forces believed they were at their last gasp! Without external power, their internal batteries could only sustain them for five minutes. After five minutes, they would be nothing more than three piles of scrap metal.

No matter how powerful the AT field is, a weapon that can't move is just a piece of scrap metal and flesh!

"All troops, prepare!" The commander raised his hand triumphantly. "After the five-minute countdown, launch a full-scale attack!"

Time passed by, second by second.

Two hundred seconds. Two hundred and fifty seconds. Two hundred and eighty seconds... Three hundred seconds!

"Time's up!" the technician shouted. "Their energy should be ready—"

Before the words were even finished, all three EVA units did indeed lower their hands simultaneously, but in the next moment—

Unit-01 has taken the lead in the operation!

It raised its head, and its eyes lit up—not just normally, but with a burning, dazzling, golden light like the sun.

Then came Unit 2, whose red body suddenly burst forth with the same light, which shone from within the unit and illuminated an area of dozens of meters around it.

The same was true for Unit-00. All three EVAs simultaneously erupted with a blinding light, so bright that everyone who looked at them involuntarily closed their eyes!

“Berserk…” Ritsuko Akagi’s voice came through the communicator, trembling slightly from the shock of surviving a close call. “No, not berserk—it’s synchronization! Complete synchronization! All three EVAs have reached a synchronization rate of over 400%!”

"Shinji is one thing, but how are Asuka and Rei supposed to handle this—" Misato Katsuragi exclaimed in astonishment.

“Their pilots didn’t withstand it,” Ritsuko Akagi interrupted, her voice carrying a strange, indescribable emotion. “The EVAs themselves were moving. Unit-01 contained Yui Ikari, and the soul of Gendo Ikari who just entered. Reimoto in Unit-00 was Lilith’s soul. In Unit-02—”

She paused.

"Inside Unit 2, there is a mother burning."

"Hey, Shinji the fortune teller, is this really okay?" Asuka asked anxiously over the communicator, both for her own sake and for her mother's.

"We share in the blood of the gods and drink deeply of the essence of the angels, and thus the artificial angels we command have attained eternity."

"speak English!"

"Unit-01, Unit-00, and Unit-02 have completely consumed the Fruit of Life. Asuka, your Unit-02 might not be completely consumed, but Rei and I will definitely not have any problems."

The Fruit of Life that Shinji Ikari mentioned swallowing was naturally the S2 Engine of the Adam-type Angels. These DNA-sized bio-type superconducting coils and genetic structures not only provide the massive EVAs with the power to move indefinitely, but also grant them a stronger AT Field and the ability to regenerate their bodies indefinitely as long as their core is not destroyed!

Unit-01 swallowed the S2 mechanism of the Angel of the Day, while Unit-00 and Unit-02, under Shinji's command, respectively, swallowed and digested the remnants of the Fish Angel and Thunder Angel that Gendo Ikari had deliberately left behind in NERV before the war.

Unit-01 goes without saying; as a clone of Lilith with a soul, it can still move beyond its limits even without the S2 Engine. Absorbing the S2 Engine to gain infinite energy is simply an instinctive and easily achievable feat.

Unit-00 is a copy of Adam and carries the awakened soul of Lilith. It can even be said that it meets half the conditions for an Impact. After mastering the S2 Engulfing Engine, she can even launch an Impact on her own!

Only Unit-02 contained only the incomplete soul of Asuka's mother. Furthermore, as a clone of Adam, it was a piece of flesh that couldn't move without the S2 engine, and could only learn from Unit-01 to digest parts of the Angel's tissues. Fully acquiring the S2 engine would take time.

"Ughhhh, you guys are so infuriating!!!" Hearing this comment that she was the only noob, and not being able to argue back, Asuka was extremely unhappy and threw a little tantrum.

"Are you sure you're okay, Asuka? If not, just hide behind me..."

"Stop talking nonsense, of course I can...do it!" Asuka said defiantly, though she understood the question Rei Ayanami was referring to regarding whether it was possible or not.

The people before them, the enemies invading NERV, were not apostles; they were living, breathing human beings—and what they were to do was to slaughter all 50,000 of them, leaving none alive!

Asuka took a deep breath. Could she do it?

It's easy, it absolutely is!

"What?! The intelligence was fake?!"

The commander's roar exploded through the communication channel. He looked through his binoculars at the three giants enveloped in light, his expression extremely grim.

I thought these big toys would be easily crushed in the face of the UN's proud firepower.

He thought that cutting the cables would destroy the three large robots on their own.

He had assumed this would be an undeniable victory for the army over an individual.

He was a fanatical believer in the science of firepower superiority and had an almost obsessive passion for modern weaponry, believing that no monsters or demons could withstand the onslaught of artillery fire.

This fanaticism led him to blindly and stubbornly identify with EVA, an obviously supernatural life form, firmly believing that the physical destructive power it could cause based on data was invincible!

The reason why the supernatural is supernatural is precisely because it always contains aspects that are beyond human scientific understanding. It's like the dimensional reduction attack that humans in the era of cold weapons faced from firearms, and even goes far beyond that concept.

The results created by a technology that is completely beyond your comprehension are far greater than the difference between gunpowder and swords.

Blindly believing that the weapons created by current human science are sufficient to destroy all monsters and demons is itself the greatest blind obedience to and violation of scientific concepts.

But that's true—

In the absence of a truly overwhelming gap in technology and power, physical methods of creating craters remain an exceptionally effective approach.

At least EVA's AT field capability is not something that can ignore all the physical laws that humans have mastered!

"Commander! Urgent communication! From Joint Command—Highest Priority!"

He paused for a moment, then took the encrypted communicator.

"This is the frontline command post—"

"The skies over Neo-Tokyo will soon be under full-scale attack." The voice was cold and ruthless.
