They first created Unit-00, then created Unit-01 using Adam's embryo as a model, followed by the sacrifice of their mother, Yui Ikari.

Except for the last one, all the others were exactly as his father had predicted.

He's been SEELE's black glove for a long time; otherwise, he wouldn't have become the thirteenth member to join SEELE.

Even earlier, when his father was still called Rokubungi Gendo, he was already a man who would stop at nothing to climb the social ladder.

Having glimpsed the existence and secrets of SEELE, she did everything in her power to reach Shinji's mother, Yui Ikari. She married into the family, changed her surname, and successfully accessed the world's true secrets.

The only unexpected thing in the whole process was that he himself did not expect it: he actually fell in love with Yui Ikari.

Human emotions are irrational and unpredictable. But it was precisely Yui's sacrifice and his obsessive, mad love that ultimately led to the deviation and rampage of the plan.

If nothing unexpected happens, and Gendo Ikari's plan succeeds, the consequences for humanity will only be worse than those of the Human Instrumentality Project.

After all, if his plan to seize control of the Human Instrumentality Project succeeds, given his obsessive and insane personality, he will inevitably make the worst choice if he cannot find Yui Ikari.

Unfortunately, his plan will never succeed. As long as the soul of Unit-01 still belongs to Yui Ikari, Gendo Ikari, who sacrificed his son, will never get what he wanted.

Therefore, in the ending of the new theatrical version, which goes through multiple cycles, Gendo Ikari's plan is even more obsessive: to sacrifice the souls of all humanity in order to find his wife.

If he succeeds, he will undoubtedly achieve the first KDA in human history, a feat that will likely remain unmatched.

Gendo Ikari, this man's sins are so profound, he truly deserves to be called the King of Li Lin, the pinnacle of all human evil.

"Now you understand, right? Miss Misato, and Dr. Ritsuko Akagi."

He looked up at the security camera and seemed to see the blonde female PhD student on the other end.

whispered

“My father was the kind of person who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals. He would kill everyone just to reunite with my mother.”

Having said that, he continued walking forward.

"Wait!" Misato Katsuragi turned and chased after him, grabbing his arm, her face contorted in pain. "But—but killing him won't solve anything! SEELE is still here, the Human Instrumentality Project is still here—killing him will do you no good! Perhaps you don't have to be so extreme..."

She bit her lip slightly and said in a low voice.

"Even so, we should be the ones doing it!"

Shinji Ikari stopped and looked back at her. The sorrow in her eyes was even deeper, as deep as the sea.

“Miss Misato,” he said softly, “do you think I’m going to kill him to solve the problem?”

Misato Katsuragi was stunned.

“I’m not here to solve the problem,” Shinji Ikari said softly. “I’m here to redeem him.”

“If he hadn’t died now, before his sins even began, my father, all his fates would have led to an end ten thousand times more tragic than death.”

After saying that, he gently pulled his hand away from hers and continued walking forward.

“He is my father.” His voice drifted from ahead, growing fainter and fainter. “So I must do this myself. Not because he deserves to die—though he certainly does—but because only by doing it myself can I…forgive him.”

By the time Misato Katsuragi realized what was happening, Shinji Ikari was already far away.

Deep within NERV base, the Commander-in-Chief's office

Entering this large, open space for the second time, Gendo Ikari stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, his back to the door, his hands clasped over his face, maintaining his unchanging pose. Outside the window was complete darkness, with only the MAGI indicator light flashing in the distance, like will-o'-the-wisps floating in the darkness.

The door opened.

Footsteps sounded, one after another, echoing in the empty office, and the stench of blood wafted in, so strong it made one want to vomit.

"You've finally arrived." Gendo Ikari didn't turn around, his voice as cold as ever. "It's been slower than I expected."

The footsteps stopped.

Gendo Ikari slowly turned around.

He saw his son standing at the door, covered in blood. His face, which resembled his own by seven parts, was expressionless, with only tears flowing silently down his cheeks.

Gendo Ikari looked at him and remained silent for a few seconds.

“You’re going to kill me,” he said. This wasn’t a question; it was a statement.

Shinji Ikari did not answer.

“Do you know what will happen after you kill me?” Gendo Ikari continued, “SEELE will activate the backup plan. They will take over NERV directly and accelerate the progress of the Human Instrumentality Project. You think stopping me will stop everything? You’re too naive.”

Shinji Ikari remained silent. He simply gazed at his father, at that face so similar to his own, at those unreadable eyes hidden behind his glasses.

“You hate me,” Gendo Ikari said. “Because of your mother. Because of your own childhood. Because I used you as a pawn. I understand.”

He took a step forward. "But you forgot one thing, Shinji."

He took another step. "You've forgotten why I did all this."

"I did all of this—"

"It's for Mom."

Shinji Ikari finally spoke. His voice was hoarse and weary, as if he had just finished a marathon with no end in sight.

“I know,” he said. “Everything you’ve done is to resurrect Mom. You don’t care what happens to the world, how many people die, or what happens to me—you only care about Mom. You want to pull her out of Unit-01. You want her to belong to you again.”

“But I saw my mother.” He said softly, “Lord Tsugumi, none of you expected that an unplanned god would actually let me see her inside Unit-01.”

Do you know what she said?

Gendo Ikari's footsteps stopped

Shinji stopped, looking at his father, the man who was always high above and always in control of everything, now standing there like a shattered statue, his expression finally falling away, revealing the real, vulnerable, and bewildered expression beneath.

He longed for an answer, yet he feared it. This man knew perfectly well that his plans and schemes would never be accepted by his wife.

But Shinji Ikari didn't tell him the answer; instead, he tore off a page from the Bible, which transformed into a gleaming silver gun-sword.

"Father," Shinji Ikari said softly, "it's time to end this."

Gendo Ikari didn't speak, only silently looking up at his head, while Shinji Ikari spoke directly.

"Still waiting for MAGI's support? No need to wait anymore. The entire system is now under control. Ms. Naoko Akagi's imprisoned mind will no longer help you."

All the chips have completely disappeared.

All that was left was a worthless body.

"Let's do it." Gendo Ikari opened his arms, making a gesture as if to embrace.

He had never hugged his son once in his life, and this was the first and last time.

Shinji's gunblade pierced Gendo Ikari's heart. Instinctively, his pupils dilated, and soon, Gendo felt his blood and life draining away like water from a leaky kettle.

"...I'm sorry, Shinji."

On his last breath, Gendo Ikari uttered these words in a deep sigh. Shinji Ikari remained silent, simply sitting quietly beside his father's body.

"Lord Tsugumi," he asked softly.

"Is that enough? Where will my father go?"

"Generally speaking, it is hell, but I am like Cain, a symbol of sin, and also proof that you, my child, have walked the right path."

Tsugumi gently placed her hands on Shinji Ikari's shoulders and chuckled softly.

"So I prepared an ending for him that suited him."

He gently extracted Gendo Ikari's soul and, in its bewilderment, sent it into Unit-01.

Though unable to speak, Gendo Ikari's soul was filled with excitement and ecstasy. Everything he had done was to reunite with his wife; if Tsugumi could do it, what did death matter to him?

But is Tsugumi such a kind-hearted person that she would be moved by this kind of person's so-called 'love' and then give them a break?

How could that be? It's impossible.

When Gendo Ikari's soul entered Unit-01, he found himself unable to move or control anything. His soul entered this cold and enormous body, and he could feel the soul of his beloved inside the same body, yet asleep.

"Yes! Yes! Yes!!!"

He called out his wife's name repeatedly and pitifully, but could not awaken her from her deep sleep. Just then, Tsurugi's voice rang in his ears.

"This body will be your eternal prison, and this is your punishment. Gendo Ikari, you sinner, you will be bound to your wife in one body, never to see her again. When she awakens, you will fall asleep; when she falls asleep, you will awaken."

"Like Rama and Sita, the loving couple could never meet."

Gendo Ikari pleaded, screamed, and cried out about Tsugumi's cruelty. But how could this cruel god forgive him? To be so close to the one he loved yet never see her again was the best punishment for him.

Of course, Tsurugi, as someone who makes the most of resources, also dangled a carrot in front of Gendo Ikari.

Go fight, go kill, go atone, go help Shinji Ikari slaughter people in this world who deserve to die more than him—only in this way will he be allowed to exchange for a brief reunion with his wife.

Perhaps at the ends of heaven, he will have a chance to reunite with his family. But the sins he must atone for are so grave, how difficult it will be for him to reach heaven?

Regardless, Gendo Ikari's death is a done deal, and NERV will welcome a brand new Commander Ikari.

The path to godhood requires endless killing! :269. Human flaws are as numerous as the stars (Fourth update)

This...world...is already...

He...has...found it.

He...has...arrived.

Before the angel whose body had been dissected, the handsome young man with white hair and red eyes lovingly stroked his hair and whispered...

"I'm sorry, I can't help you anymore. The world has become something I never knew existed."

The 'angel's' stiff body stared at Kaworu, tears of despair streaming from its eyes.

Why...is this...world...and humanity...so...cruel?

You...are not...saved.

"Humanity has as many flaws as stars and as few virtues as the sun. Those who love humanity will forget the stars that have been obscured once they see the sun rise."

Looking at the miserable and wretched state of the envoy from a foreign land, Kaworu said sadly.

"But the sun only obscures the starlight, it doesn't eliminate it. The sun will always set, the stars will rise again, and night will cover the sun."
