If the Mirror of Erised really does drive Harry insane, then Dumbledore's entire plan will be for naught.
Therefore, at least when Harry came to look in the mirror, Dumbledore would definitely be hiding next to Harry, ready to intervene at any time. However, what Dumbledore didn't expect was that Dolly would also come.
“It is I, Miss Dursley.”
Dumbledore wore a warm smile that Dolly had never seen before, or rather, a smile he had never shown to Dolly.
Despite his exhaustion, he seemed as happy as if he had discovered a treasure.
"You seem to be in a good mood, Professor. Does that mean Harry and I won't have to lose points?"
"Of course, Miss Dursley, I would never spoil the mood by deducting points from students during the holidays."
"Besides, I put this mirror here because I didn't store it properly. If points are to be deducted, they should be deducted from me first."
Dolly smiled slightly, as a response to Dumbledore.
Although Dumbledore's attitude was very gentle today, Dolly could no longer regard him as a kind old grandfather simply because of his change in attitude.
Dumbledore clearly realized this as well; Dolly couldn't be treated like an ordinary child.
He looked at Dolly, and Dolly looked back at him without fear, seemingly no longer afraid of his Legilimency.
This made Dumbledore remark that Dolly had grown up so quickly.
In fact, Dolly was no longer afraid.
Dolly now has 12 attribute points. Although it's still not enough to add one point to magic, it's enough for Dolly to raise her willpower from 4 to 6 points.
With a willpower of 6, she should be able to resist Dumbledore's Legilimency. At the very least, Dumbledore couldn't read Dolly's mind silently.
Of course, if Dumbledore were to use a spell, Dolly would certainly not be able to withstand it.
But worrying about this possibility is pointless, because if Dumbledore were to act recklessly, Dolly wouldn't be able to resist no matter how hard she tried, so she might as well just give up.
Clearly, Dumbledore didn't have that idea.
He had to admit that he still couldn't see through Dolly, and even felt a great sense of unease from her.
This instability might disrupt his plans in the future, which was Dumbledore's biggest worry.
In particular, whether Dolly did these things voluntarily or was simply passively involved is also a key question.
But at least everything he had just seen told Dumbledore that Dolly was a person with feelings, a person who could warm other people's hearts.
For Dumbledore, that was enough.
That's enough for now, at least.
So Dumbledore said, "I think you and Mr. Potter must be tired. Why don't you go back to your quarters and rest?"
"You still have to take the train home tomorrow morning. Although you can catch up on sleep on the train, at least don't miss taking the train."
"Okay, Professor."
Dolly nodded, and Dumbledore said helpfully, "Do you need me to help you take Mr. Potter back?"
"No need, Professor, I can do it myself. He's my brother, after all."
“Then you’d better be careful, Miss Dursley. It’s quite a distance to the Gryffindor common room, and our caretaker probably won’t let you leave easily.”
"Well, I have my own way of doing it."
Dolly didn't explain, but used the Levitation Charm to make Harry float, and then covered him with the Invisibility Cloak.
Dolly then used her wand to guide Harry through the Invisibility Cloak, leading him past Dumbledore and out of the room.
They seemed oblivious to the regret on Dumbledore's face, a regret that he could not have.
Clearly, Dumbledore wanted to demonstrate some magical power or offer Dolly a helping hand, but Dolly didn't give Dumbledore any chance.
Only after Dolly's footsteps disappeared did Dumbledore shake his head, walk to the Mirror of Erised, look at the familiar face in the mirror, and slowly put away his expression.
Who did he see at that moment?
Whether it was Grindelwald, his sister, or his family, only Dumbledore himself knew the answer.
As for Dolly, after summoning Dots, she had Dots escort Harry and herself back to their dorms, and then she went straight to sleep.
That night, Dolly had many dreams, including a sequel to the scene in the mirror.
Unfortunately, it was all just a dream; it couldn't be taken as reality.
The next morning, Dolly opened her eyes groggily, thinking this, and found Hermione in front of her with a flushed face and somewhat evasive eyes.
102, 4th update: Hello, Father-in-law
This immediately alerted Dolly. What on earth had happened?
Could it be that she unknowingly talked in her sleep and said what she dreamed about yesterday?
Or perhaps you did something you shouldn't have done while you were asleep?
Dolly instinctively looked at her body and found that her school uniform had disappeared and replaced with pajamas.
In an instant, Dolly felt tears welling up in her eyes, and it was as if alarm bells were flashing above her head.
But then Hermione spoke up, in a accusing tone, saying, "Where did you go last night? Why were you sleeping in your school uniform?"
"I tried to wake you up but failed, so I changed your clothes and covered you with a blanket. You'll catch a cold if you sleep in your school uniform!"
Dolly was speechless for a moment, then touched her cheek awkwardly and said, "I'm sorry, I won't do it again next time."
Dolly was then trying to figure out how to explain sneaking out yesterday.
Hermione, however, said, "It's good that you know you were wrong. Sleep a little longer. I'll pack your breakfast and we can eat it on the train."
"You can probably sleep for... two and a half hours?"
After saying that, Hermione left the room, her steps hurried.
This made Dolly look suspicious; she had been prepared to be scolded by Hermione again.
After all, sneaking out in the middle of the night would definitely upset Hermione.
The last time Dolly did something like this was when she went to meet with Cho Chang.
Even though Hermione and Cho Chang have reconciled, Hermione should at least ask what happened this time.
There is weirdness.
It’s so weird!
Unfortunately, Hermione's people had already disappeared, and Dolly had no chance to ask them anything.
By the time Hermione returns, she will have recovered, and getting her to reveal information in that state will be virtually impossible.
Dolly then turned her gaze to Crookshank, who was lying dead on the windowsill, and asked, "What happened to her? What did she do to me?"
Crookshank glanced lazily at Dolly, then began licking his left paw.
Dolly raised her voice and asked, "I'm asking you a question!"
Crookshank switched to another paw and continued licking. It had made its intentions quite clear; it couldn't possibly actually start talking, could it?
"Stupid cat."
Dolly scoffed at Crookshanks and then went back to sleep; she was truly exhausted.
In her dazed state, Dolly licked her lips, feeling as if something was missing from her mouth. Could it be the cat's paw from Crookshanks?
Hermione had just left the common room at this time.
Because it was still early, not many people were up.
After looking left and right and finding no one, she revealed her fingers from under her sleeve, looked at the teeth marks on her index finger, and blushed unnaturally.
She did indeed do something wrong.
While changing Dolly into her pajamas, Dolly kept mumbling in her sleep, not in English, and Hermione couldn't understand her.
She tried to close Dolly's lips with her fingers, but Dolly bit her fingers and licked them gently.
Hermione was startled at first and tried to pull her hand back, but she became much bolder after realizing that Dolly wasn't using any force.
So she started playing a cat-and-mouse game with Dolly's tongue, until Dolly subconsciously bit down hard, at which point Hermione quickly pulled her finger back.
This is also why Hermione has teeth marks on her fingers.
Although Hermione subconsciously felt that this was no big deal.
But at the same time, she felt that she couldn't let Dolly know about this, otherwise wouldn't she be the kind of person who would play with Dolly's tongue while she was sleeping?
This guy... he must be weird, right?
That's why Hermione rushed out in a hurry, intending to remove the mark on her hand first.
She took out her wand, ready to cast a spell, but suddenly remembered something.
After confirming that no one was around, she put her finger to her lips, wanting to experience what Dolly felt at that time.
Isn't that...strange?
Hermione quickly came to a conclusion.
It's really strange.
The strange thing is that you can't play games with your own fingers and tongue at all.
Indeed, this kind of game is best played with Dolly.
I just don't know when the next opportunity will come... no, I mean when Dolly will play this kind of game with her again.
And, would Dolly like this kind of game?
Forget it, let's not do anything like that, otherwise such strange things might scare Dolly.
Hermione took a deep breath and, though somewhat reluctant, removed the marks from her fingers.
Hermione still doesn't understand why this is so strange.
However, with the holidays approaching, she stopped thinking about it. After all, she figured that she might find the answers to the things she couldn't understand now in a book someday.
This is the experience Hermione has gained over a decade of life.
