With a soft snort, the little girl said matter-of-factly:

"Of course, we'll take the stairs!"

Blake: (?oo?)??

What went wrong?

Did he hear it correctly?

Go up...the stairs?!

What a joke!

This is District 13!

There is no safest place in the world!

How could a little girl, who is so weak... well, even if she had the strength to run four police officers, possibly sneak into District 13 out of nowhere?

Blake was convinced the little girl was lying! Was she a spy sent by another country?

But this is child labor!

Which force is so shameless?!

They actually sent such a young girl to infiltrate District 13! Did they think he wouldn't dare lay a hand on a child?!

Just as the two stared at each other, and the scene fell silent for a moment.

Suddenly a loud, clattering voice rang out.

Chapter 4: Dad's been taken hostage! Jackie Chan: Please take care of Jade for me!

"Xiaoyu?! What are you doing here? I heard there was a little girl driving around the Thirteenth District! It really is you! Where did you get this car? Good heavens! You even wrecked someone's car like this! Oh no, I'll have to pay such a huge sum of money, Dad will definitely scold me when I get home!"

As soon as she finished speaking, Xiaoyu immediately covered her ears.

"Hey, Uncle Long, stop nagging! Come here!"

Once Jackie Chan shut up, she suddenly jumped up and pulled him in front of her.

"Shh! Keep your voice down! This car obviously came from their garage, and it's not scrapped yet."

"It's not totaled yet? That's good..." Jackie Chan breathed a sigh of relief, but then his eyes widened suddenly. "Wait! How did you get into someone's garage?!"

"Hmph, I understand, Uncle Long."

Xiaoyu smiled, a slight smirk playing on Jackie Chan's rambling.

"I know we need a car to escape this mysterious, unidentified base! To escape from this evil bald guy! To avoid being captured and subjected to illegal research! So, shall we go? The car still runs!"

Taking a deep breath, Jackie Chan glanced at Blake, who was wearing a forced smile, and looked at his niece with a twitch at the corner of his mouth.

"Xiaoyu! You can't talk to people like that, it's so rude! This is my friend, he's not evil, and this isn't some unknown base, nor is any illegal research being conducted here!"

"Huh?" Now it was Xiaoyu's turn to be shocked. She looked at bald Blake, then at her own Uncle Long, with a questioning look on her face.

"Are you saying that you were drugged by your 'friend' and then transported into this poorly guarded, mysterious, and evil underground base like a frozen piece of meat?"

Jackie Chan blinked, his mouth slightly open, as if he wanted to refute, but then he suddenly realized that what his niece said seemed to be true.

He hadn't yet reached an agreement with Blake, so Blake had taken a precaution when he came in, drugging him to prevent him from knowing the route to District 13.

Jackie Chan chuckled awkwardly and scratched his head: "What frozen meat chunks? That sounds awful!"

“However, that is indeed the case…” he said sheepishly.

Upon hearing this, Xiaoyu's big eyes immediately lit up like light bulbs.

"OMG! The news was right! This is America, the so-called land of freedom! It's so cool!"

Jackie Chan, embarrassed, rubbed his forehead: "No, this isn't cool at all..."

Blake, who was narrating, looked bewildered and asked his friend, "Jackie Chan, is this your niece? How come I've never heard you mention her before?"

Jackie Chan turned his head and nodded sheepishly, "I just found out too."

Blake, with his thick eyebrows and large eyes, opened his mouth as if to say something, but was interrupted by a cell phone ringing.

Jackie Chan was wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt, and at that moment, the pocket of his brown trousers vibrated.

He quickly took out his phone and asked Xiaoyu to calm down for a while before turning around and pressing the call button.

The call was just connected.

"Hey! Ah Long, why did it take you so long to answer Dad's call?"

An old voice came.

"Well, it hasn't been that long, has it?"

"Where are you now?"

Covering the phone with one hand, Jackie Chan turned his head and saw a group of burly men standing next to him, staring at him menacingly.

Jackie Chan gave an awkward smile, then replied to his father, "Where I am, I can't say... Dad, what's wrong?"

"Oh, there's something I need to tell you. Have you seen Xiaoyu?"

My father is sitting alone in a dimly lit study. To save electricity, he only has one overhead tungsten lamp on, which means that only the table in front of him is illuminated.

He leaned over, holding the landline phone in one hand while flipping through the old books in front of him with the other.

The characters on it, as distorted and messy as mosquitoes, seemed to record something very important, and the old man looked at them very carefully.

"Xiaoyu? She... uh, she's right next to me." Jackie Chan answered honestly.

"Beside you?"

As if he hadn't expected this, the old man paused in pointing at the words, but quickly nodded with satisfaction.

"Very good, it seems you two get along well!"

“...Haha.” Jackie Chan chuckled awkwardly twice, then stared at the car accident scene not far away, remaining silent.

"Alright, Ah Long, there's one more thing. I've figured out some things about this shield. The engraving in the center seems to record an ancient spell!"

"A... curse?" Jackie Chan paused, then cautiously covered the phone even tighter.

Turning around and seeing that Blake and the others were some distance away and probably couldn't hear their father, he continued, "Dad, are you sure that's a curse?"

"What? You dare question your father's judgment? I'm certain it's a curse! And an extremely ancient and powerful one at that!"

The old man's voice immediately grew louder, making Jackie Chan's ears ring.

"This spell possesses incredible magical power; it's the most important part of this shield. As for the shield itself, it could fetch a good price."

"What? No, Dad, you can't sell that shield!"

Jackie Chan's eyes widened, and he was no longer calm. "Everyone I've met today wants this shield! You can't sell it, Dad!"

"No, the shield isn't important; I've already tossed it aside," came the father's nonchalant voice from the other end of the phone.

"What? No, Dad, you can't do this!" Jackie Chan exclaimed. "There are a lot of bad guys who want this shield!"

However, before he could say anything more, he suddenly heard his father groan, followed by a burst of noise.

Jackie Chan's eyes widened, a bad feeling rising in his heart. He quickly shouted into the microphone, "Dad? Dad! How are you?!"

“Mr. Jackie Chan, I’ve taken your father with me. I’ll be waiting for you in the tallest building nearby.”

Just as Jackie Chan was about to rush back to the antique shop, a deep and muffled voice suddenly rang out.

"He's safe and sound now, but if I don't get that shield in an hour, your old man will fall off the top of the building, and I can't guarantee what will happen to him."

Jackie Chan's eyelids twitched upon hearing this.

The threatening tone of the other party was self-evident.

That means he's going to throw his father off the roof!

As for what it will ultimately become?

You definitely can't tell it's human!

"I'll bring you what you want, but don't lay a hand on my father!"

"click"

After receiving a correct answer, the other end of the phone hung up immediately.

Jackie Chan frowned, listening to the busy tone on the other end of the phone. He didn't have time to say anything, so he turned to Blake and said urgently, "I have to do something right now. Could you please take care of my niece, Xiaoyu, for a while? I'll be right back!"

Chapter 5 Xiaoyu! What are you doing here?!

"Huh?" Blake hadn't reacted yet.

Jackie Chan vanished in a flash.

"Uh... okay, alright." He nodded, slightly bewildered.

However, he quickly realized something.

"Wait! Wasn't Jackie Chan brought here under anesthesia? How does he know the way out?" Blake was stunned again, his bald head reflecting a gleaming light under the overhead lamp.

"Well, never mind, my old friend is really something." Blake sighed and shook his head. "Alright, Jade, let me look after you for a while for your Uncle Long..."

He turned around, but the girl who had been standing next to him was nowhere to be seen.

"Clam?!"

Blake was completely dumbfounded.

------

Jackie Chan ran all the way back to the antique shop.

The night was deep, but the sky was not completely dark.

Streaks of starlight shone down from the sky, mingling with the moonlight, and descended upon the earth.

"boom"

The door closed softly.
