"You're too naive, Harry."
Norman Osborne looked at him coldly and said, "Would a beast driven to the brink of death easily give up and wait to die? I've told you countless times that if you want to become a scavenger, you must let go of your unnecessary pity and compassion. The death or life of innocent people has absolutely nothing to do with you. You can't get the relationship between them and you right."
Harry pushed his plate aside and looked at his father with an utterly unfamiliar gaze.
He couldn't believe his father had said those words.
"No! Dad, I'm not a bad person, and I don't want to be like you!"
Do you think everyone is inherently good?
Norman Osborne stared at Harry, his tone growing colder. “Go out and look at the people on the street—farmers, immigrants, truck drivers, country yuppies. Each of them has probably been to church and dropped a dollar or two into the offering bowl. They’re kind, they smile at everyone, and they all seem like law-abiding citizens.”
"And do you know what they did behind the scenes? They were thieves and prostitutes, swindlers and cheaters, taking advantage of other people's sympathy to deceive and harm them in return."
Norman stood up, his face filled with disappointment. "Harry, if you keep thinking like this, you won't succeed. Instead, you'll get hurt, and the closer you are to someone, the more deeply they'll hurt you."
Harry's anger was also ignited, and he asked Norman, "What is success in your eyes? Becoming a famous entrepreneur and making your company one of the world's best?"
Harry, slightly out of breath, looked at his father. "No matter which school I attend, I'm always the richest one. People want to get close to me because of my wealth, but it's not mine. I know that clearly."
"Many people ridicule me for being a rich kid who relies on his family's wealth. They never really consider me a friend. I've been to countless schools, and the only friends I have now are Peter and Gwen."
As Norman Osborne listened to his son's outburst, his expression grew increasingly grim.
He asked Harry coldly, "Harry, do you think everything I've given you has been painful?"
"No, I appreciate you, Dad, but I can't become the kind of person you want me to be."
Harry shook his head and said to Norman, "I don't want to be like you either."
Norman Osborn frowned as he looked at Harry.
“There’s no point in escaping reality. No matter what, you’re a member of the Osborne family. You can’t live in your own world.”
Harry exhaled and said, "I won't run away. I won't run away like Mom did."
"What did you say?"
Norman's expression instantly turned sour upon hearing Harry mention his mother.
“I said, my mother chose to run away back then.”
Harry stopped hiding his feelings and spoke his mind: "In her final days, Mother numbed herself with Scotch whisky for six whole years. As far as I can remember, she was always drinking alcohol because she knew you were wrong, but she couldn't stop you!"
"Shut up!"
Enraged, Norman Osborn slapped Harry across the face.
"Snapped!"
Gwen slammed her hand on the locker, her face full of anger.
The location was a locker in the school corridor, and the time was in the morning.
The corridor, which had not yet started classes, was bustling with students.
Although her body was feeling a bit off, she still went to school.
After all, it's my own secret, and I can't use it as an excuse to skip class.
"Why are you so angry?"
She was sulking when a voice came from behind him.
Gwen turned around and saw that it was Peter.
"This must be a joke! Don't they know who saved everyone on the subway yesterday?"
Gwen handed the newspaper to Peter, saying angrily, "Look at their headlines."
Peter took the newspaper, and the bold headline caught his eye—"Spider-Man: Dangerous Thug!"
Looking at the newspaper headlines, he then looked up at the very top of the newspaper.
The words "Daily Bugle" appeared prominently.
Isn't this Spider-Man's most loyal anti-fan newspaper?
The first one to appear now is Black Spider-Man.
Peter fell into deep thought as he looked at the newspaper.
Have I, in a sense, corrected the original trajectory of the world?
Chapter 44 If I were a monster, would you still love me?
“They’re genuine criminals, that’s what they say.”
Gwen said indignantly, "Aren't that strange bird and the robot the culprits? They barely even mentioned them."
"Ah."
Peter nodded casually.
He showed no emotional reaction to these comments.
"You can't stop what people say, and you can't change their opinions, Gwen, so there's no need to get angry."
The thought of Gwen experiencing countless times more attacks and smears once she became Spider-Man made him pause for a second in silence for her sake.
Gwen defended Spider-Man, saying, "I think this is unfair; they're biased."
"You have a good impression of that Spider-Man?"
Peter asked her curiously.
"He is the kind of person I aspire to be."
Gwen stuffed the newspaper into the locker and said to Peter, "Although it's not easy."
"Hey, good morning, Gwen, Peter."
Just as Gwen finished speaking, a voice came from behind her.
The two turned around and saw that it was Harry.
"Good morning, Harry. I thought you'd rest at home for a couple of days after you escaped that strange bird."
Gwen and Harry greeted each other.
She knew last night that Harry was safe and sound.
"I only suffered some minor injuries and do not need to recuperate at home."
Harry shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant.
But Gwen still noticed something was wrong.
Harry had a very obvious red handprint on his face.
"Harry, are you alright?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Your face"
Gwen pointed at his face and asked in confusion.
"Oops, I bumped into something by accident."
Harry touched his still slightly burning face, pretending nothing was wrong.
He was initially furious after being slapped by Norman Osborn, but he has now calmed down.
Even when he is filled with negative energy, he tries his best not to show it in front of his friends.
"Okay, if you feel unwell, you can go to the medical room."
Gwen didn't press him further, so she offered him a suggestion.
Peter, who was standing next to Harry, naturally noticed what the red mark on Harry's face was, but he only glanced at it and remained silent.
He put his backpack in the locker and walked towards the classroom with Gwen and Harry.
As soon as I entered the classroom, I heard the voice of "King Kong".
King Kong was talking animatedly with a group of cronies, recounting yesterday's big news.
"The Spider-Man helicopter-pulling stunt last night was spectacular; my friend was on that subway train."
Despite his burly, bald appearance, he seemed unusually interested in topics like superheroes and violence.
"He caught the helicopter, almost causing it to crash, but thankfully that didn't happen. Also, he kicked that strange bird over; it seems his strength is extraordinary."
The school bell rang, but "King Kong" showed no sign of stopping.
"Hey, King Kong, can you be quiet for a second?"
Gwen said to the other person, "It's class time now."
Hearing the sound, King Kong turned to look at Gwen. "What's wrong?"
“I said, you’d better be quiet. You’ve been talking about Spider-Man for half the morning. Maybe you should take a break now.”
She had a bit of a headache; was there anyone more obsessed with Spider-Man than she was?
Gwen added, "Could you sit down quietly?"
King Kong spread his hands and said to Gwen, "Spider-Man saved the entire train, why can't I say that?"
Gwen sighed. "Perhaps you could try saying it outside instead of in the classroom."
"What if I say no?"
As "King Kong" spoke, he walked toward her with hostility.
Although Gwen's academic excellence was useful at school, he, who considered his "fist the most useful weapon," didn't take her seriously.
Gwen gave Peter a knowing look that said, "I can handle this," before turning her gaze to the menacing "King Kong."
King Kong, who had come over to "discuss" something with Gwen, had only taken two steps when he suddenly stumbled in front of Peter.
Seemingly tripped by something, he lost his balance and fell forward.
Terrified, he tried desperately to grab onto something, but in his frantic movements, he couldn't grasp anything at all.
