In the expectant eyes of these little wizards.
Lin Bei directly opened a jar on the lectern.
The instant it was opened.
The temperature in the classroom plummeted, both physically and psychologically.
A sense of despair began to slowly affect the young wizards in the classroom through the power of magic.
As soon as the Dementor appeared, it sensed the joy emanating from the many lively young wizards around it, and instinctively opened its empty mouth under its hood, ready to suck away their happiness.
The Dementors, who had spent most of their lives on the desolate island of Azkaban, had never seen such a wealthy environment.
Compared to Azkaban, this place is practically a high-end buffet.
Even the ingredients are top-notch; the old-fashioned dishes of Azkaban can't compare to the freshness and juiciness of these young wizards.
If you suck on it like that, your mouth will be full of oil.
However, just as it was about to absorb the emotions, a large hand suddenly appeared on its head and slapped it down. The powerful positive energy covering the hand almost shattered the Dementor's head, which seemed to have a substance but was actually like a ghost.
"Behave yourself, it's not time for you to eat yet," Lin Bei said calmly.
The Dementors immediately became docile.
Even though it doesn't possess much intelligence, its experiences over the past few days have made it feel like it's living a life worse than death.
That horrible man would occasionally use these honest Dementors for experiments, testing their reactions to Patronus with his outrageous Patronus Charm, analyzing their feelings when surrounded by Patronus, and experimenting with the effects of multiple Dementors working together against a Patronus.
Alternatively, one could study the nature of Dementors, including their physical structure and how they reproduce.
It's not exactly bizarre, but it also has a bit of a scientific research feel to it.
If you call this a research project, the methods used are extremely censored.
After studying it for a while, Lin Bei discovered that the essence of these Dementors was nothing more than negative energy, and all kinds of magic and methods were just to neutralize the negative energy. Among them, Heavenly Magic was indeed the most famous existence among positive energy.
Because of his methods, Lin Bei initially failed to control the quantity well, and thus inadvertently eliminated quite a few Dementors.
In contrast, there are the Dementors.
When these "gifts" first saw their first companion being eliminated, they didn't feel anything, they just became a little more obedient. It was the various methods they used afterward that made them live in constant fear, afraid that one day they would be chosen to be used for experiments.
The Dementor, who was lured out today to learn the Patronus Charm with the young wizards, was initially in despair. However, instead of being immediately used for experiments, it ended up in a place filled with a joyful atmosphere.
At this moment, under Lin Bei's punishment, the lucky Dementor obediently stayed where it was, concealing its mouthparts and trying not to release any chilling dark aura.
"Let's begin the lesson." Lin Bei nodded in satisfaction as he saw the Dementors had quieted down, then turned his gaze to the young wizards in the classroom.
"Everyone, look at the middle of the classroom. This ugly creature is what we're going to talk about today. I'm sure you've all heard of this kind of creature from stories, fairy tales, or biographies."
"Dementors are among the darkest and most evil creatures in the entire magical world. They often appear in groups in the darkest and dirtiest places, living in environments of corruption and despair, sucking away all peace, hope and joy from the air around them."
"In order to save costs, the Ministry of Magic hired these creatures as guards of Azkaban prison, believing that no prisoner could escape from the encirclement of Dementors."
At this point, Lin Bei chuckled.
"Speaking of which, the record of no one escaping from Azkaban was broken not long ago. It seems that Dementors are not as omnipotent as wizards imagined."
The young wizards glanced at Harry instinctively.
They had all heard, more or less, that many of the Death Eaters under the Mystic's command had escaped from prison, all because they wanted to kill the boy who had miraculously survived for the Mystic.
“Although the Ministry of Magic treats these things as its employees, it never pays them a single salary.” Lin Bei smiled sarcastically. “However, I don’t think they are really as harmless as ordinary Ministry of Magic employees.”
"I'm sure most of you have already experienced some of the Dementors' abilities."
Dementors can drain human happiness, affect people's minds, and in more severe cases, cause fainting or even mental instability.
"In fact, what you have experienced is at most the side effects when facing Dementors, and it is nowhere near the impact caused by a Dementor launching an attack."
"Under the attack of Dementors, wizards often feel the light around them being sucked away, gradually falling into darkness. Courage and hope fade away, and nothingness gradually takes over their hearts."
"The way Dementors absorb souls is called 'Dementor's Kiss.' Its power and effects are similar to the Crucifixion Curse. Oh, and by the way, the Crucifixion Curse's incantation is Crucifixion."
While explaining the content about Dementors, Lin Bei walked over to the Dementor that was sitting obediently in the center of the classroom.
"This is a rare opportunity, so I can show you how Dementors perform the 'Dementor Kiss'."
As usual, let's first find a guinea pig willing to dedicate themselves to our teaching cause.
He snapped his fingers.
Ron exclaimed, "Scabbers, my Scabbers!"
He ignored Ron's anxious voice.
Lin Bei ripped off the Dementor's hood.
It was an ugly, horrible face, with only a thin layer of scabbed gray skin covering the empty eye sockets where eyes should have been.
A vortex, seemingly composed of gas or liquid, was located on the lower half of her face. The vortex resembled a gaping maw ready to devour its prey, exuding a captivating and alluring power.
"Come on, I've prepared some food for you. Let me show everyone your 'Dementor Kiss'!"
Lin Bei held the rat near the Dementor's mouth and said with great interest.
Dementor: "?"
He's eating happiness, but what happiness can a mouse possibly have? Ugly!
"Oh? Looks like you're not starving yet, still being picky about food." Lin Bei smiled gently and said softly, "Then forget it, I won't force you."
His "gentle" smile seemed devoid of warmth, sending chills down the spines of the young wizards in the classroom.
“This Dementor is useless, let’s find another one that’s willing to cooperate,” Lin Bei said gently. “Anyway, we still have plenty in stock!”
A golden-red scythe suddenly appeared above the Dementors.
Cleanly and efficiently cut the Dementor in two.
The Dementor felt a pain that came from the depths of its soul. Its tattered and dirty cloak gradually turned to ashes, revealing thin, scabbed gray skin.
Soon, the skin turned into powder, revealing that its interior was completely empty!
The Dementor struggled violently, making strange, gurgling noises that sounded like a dying maneuver, and conveying a sense of repentance to Lin Bei.
However, Lin Bei did not intend to pay any attention to it.
In just over two seconds, the Dementor was completely dead.
Lin Bei then waved his hand, instantly dispelling the heavy atmosphere in the classroom.
Like bright sunshine, it reappeared in this classroom.
"Alright, don't make a fuss," Lin Bei said, glancing meaningfully at Hermione.
Hermione stared intently at Lin Bei, her eyes clearly conveying, 'Coach, I want to learn this.'
Lin Bei reopened a jar.
Sensing Lin Bei's hostile mood, the Dementor cautiously crawled out of the jar.
The Dementor had already sensed the gruesome death of its kind, and almost instinctively suppressed its terrifying aura, flying to the center of the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom and pulling down its hood to approach the rat that Lin Bei was holding.
Like the previous one, it had no eyes, only a layer of gray skin covering the empty eye sockets, and its mouth was a shapeless hole that sucked in the air in front of it with a chilling "creaking" sound.
The mouse named Banban had no chance to resist. Its four legs kicked weakly, and a little bit of spiritual energy representing happy emotions floated out from the mouse.
Then, the mouse's eyes lost their luster, and its whole body drooped down.
Although the young wizards couldn't discern the Dementor's facial expression, they could tell from its actions that this rat seemed unusual, as it increased the force of its sucking.
It covered its mouth with its withered palm and made panting sounds, as if it had received an unexpected surprise.
"That was a fantastic demonstration. Did you all see it clearly?" Lin Bei smiled with satisfaction and said to the young wizards.
He casually returned the drained Pettigrew to Ron.
"Let's give a round of applause to our selfless student Ron."
Gryffindor should also receive an additional fifty points for this.
Ron's sad expression immediately turned into a beaming smile.
Lin Bei nodded slightly. "Miss Granger mentioned in her previous question that a spell is needed to defend against Dementors—the Patronus Charm!"
"There is a saying in the wizarding world that Dementors cannot be killed or harmed by any spells, only Patronus Charms can banish them."
"But Professor, didn't you just kill a Dementor?" a young wizard asked curiously.
“That’s right, that’s why I said it’s just a saying in the wizarding world,” Lin Bei said with a smile.
"Alright, everyone, let's not dwell on this anymore." Lin Bei changed the subject, saying, "A Guardian is something that protects against Dementors; it's a kind of guardian that acts as a shield between you and the Dementors."
"The Patronus is a positive force, and what it promotes is exactly what Dementors feed on: positive emotions such as hope, happiness, and the will to live."
“Miss Granger is right. This kind of spell is not profound at all for you young people. Saying that it is profound is just an excuse for those good-for-nothings.”
"What does the guardian deity look like?" a young wizard asked. "Will it summon a god to help us drive away the Dementors? If I had to choose, I would definitely summon a generous goddess."
“You’d better really want to use a Guardian to drive away the Dementors.” Lin Bei gave him a disdainful look. “In fact, every Guardian looks different, depending on the wizard who summons it. Most of them have an animalistic mentality, and those from the same family will summon Guardians that are all roughly the same species.”
"Therefore, it is impossible for a wizard to summon a human-shaped guardian spirit; everyone's guardian spirit is an animal!"
So, those with ulterior motives shouldn't be daydreaming.
It was clear that many of the young wizards were no longer as excited.
"Alright, stop thinking about those things. We're still in class." Lin Bei shook his head with a chuckle. "When using the Guardian Charm, you have to concentrate and try your best to recall a happy event for it to work."
"For example, when you saw Professor Snape in women's clothing just now, didn't you all laugh a lot? Some of you who really can't remember any happy times can just think of Professor Snape in women's clothing while summoning your Patronus."
“This is the spell.” Lin Bei raised his wand.
“Expecto Patronum”.
Lin Bei realized he had overestimated the young wizards' learning abilities; they couldn't even understand the incantation.
After a hesitant and fumbling lesson, many of these young wizards still couldn't even recite the spells properly.
Several weeks have passed, and not a single person has been able to learn the Patronus Charm. Most of the better students can only spray some silver gas from their wands.
Only Cedric and a handful of outstanding sixth and seventh graders learned a little bit about it and were able to summon the silver phantom of their guardian deity, but they still couldn't tell from it what kind of animal form their guardian deity actually took.
Moreover, most students who can cast the Guardian Silver Gas in a rudimentary way can only do so when they are fully focused.
When Lin Bei instructed the Dementor to slightly release its dark and cold aura, the students found it difficult to concentrate and focus on recalling happy memories. Instead, negative emotions such as sadness and grief constantly assaulted their minds.
