Chapter 261, Juvia: A Special Day
No one here is a fool.
Yefried only pointed this out, and he immediately exposed the children's lie.
At this point, it's pointless to try to cover up the lie.
"Why do this?" The dean was somewhat angry and couldn't understand.
The children hesitated and refused to speak.
Yefrit said earnestly, "This world has many problems that even adults cannot completely solve, which is why guilds exist. As for children, most of the problems are beyond their ability to solve, so they have to seek help from adults."
"Although some adults will not help children."
"But some adults are willing to lend a helping hand."
"If you don't seize the opportunity, it will be too late to regret it when the trouble becomes unmanageable."
Yefrit looked at the boy named Eddie and said, "Right, Eddie?"
Everyone looked at Eddie.
“That’s none of his business,” Rerom said, stepping forward. “It was all my idea.”
“I know, but this matter will ultimately be related to Eddie,” Yevlit asserted.
The children remained silent.
Seeing this, the dean hugged Eddie and said, "What happened? Eddie, you've always been a very good boy."
Eddie couldn't hold back anymore and cried, "I just want my mom and dad to come back."
The dean was stunned for a moment. She hesitated for a moment, then comforted them, "They will be back soon."
“Alright, now that the matter has been clarified,” the dean abruptly changed the subject, saying, “Let’s leave it at that. Mr. Yefrit, Ms. Mirajane, thank you for your help. As for the compensation, please come to my office.”
“Okay.” Yefrit and Mirajane both realized that there was more to the story than met the eye; the headmaster intended to tell them, but not in front of the children.
The dean dismissed the children, letting them do as they pleased, and then took the two of them to his office.
'dong dong'
The three had just sat down when there was a knock at the door, and a small head peeked out—it was Ryrom.
"What are you doing here, Rherom?" the Dean asked.
“Dean, may I come and listen?” Rherom asked.
"No," the dean refused outright.
"Alright." Ryrom sighed and left.
The dean stood up, closed and locked the office door, then sat back down and sighed, "Sigh—"
“The child’s parents… Could something have happened to them?” Mirajane asked cautiously.
"Yes," the dean nodded.
“Eddie was not an abandoned orphan. He originally had a family. His parents were businessmen. Two years ago, his parents had to go on a business trip. Because they were worried that Eddie would be left without anyone to take care of him, they asked our orphanage to take care of him for a while.”
“Eddie’s parents are one of the sponsors of our orphanage, so I agreed.”
"But... it took two years."
"Something has most likely already happened," the dean said.
"Do you have any photos? I can investigate if they still exist," Yefrit asked. If there were photos, she could investigate. Alternatively, she could have an artist paint two portraits. If all else failed, she could have Asa use his divination abilities to deduce the appearance of Eddie's parents from his image, though that would be much more complicated.
"Yes," the dean nodded and said, "The couple donated a lot of things to our yard. There were photos of them hanging on the wall, but I was worried that Eddie would be reminded of them when he saw them, since he's just a child, so I took them down."
"Hold on."
The dean got up, went to the cabinet next to him, and found the photos of the two of them.
Jefried took it, let Asa glance at it, and then put it back.
Not long after, Asa replied: "Master, not found."
Now, demons roam the whole country, and Asa's eyes are everywhere.
If Asa cannot be found, then there is only one possible outcome.
"Sigh—" Yefrit sighed softly and shook her head.
The dean forced a smile; this was something he had been mentally prepared for.
'dong dong'
Just then, the office door rang.
The dean frowned.
"It's Ryrom."
"He was listening at the door?!" the dean exclaimed in surprise.
“Yes, let him in. This child seems very mature; he can help us,” Yefrit said.
The dean got up, opened the door, and saw Ryrom standing outside with a determined look on his face.
"come in."
The dean led Rerom into his office and closed the door behind him.
“Eddie’s parents are dead, right?” Rherom said.
The dean nodded with difficulty.
“Eddie can’t accept this,” Rherom said. “He’s different from us. We never had those things to begin with, but he once had love from his family.”
"..." Yefried remained silent.
The dean asked, "Then can you explain why you would do such a thing?"
“I don’t know if Eddie’s parents are…” Ryrom took a deep breath and said, “Eddie has always wanted his parents to come back, but so much time has passed and they still haven’t.”
"A month ago, the director took us to the outskirts of the city to learn to paint. Some of the children there said that we were all without parents."
"How could they say such things!" The dean's face immediately turned red with anger.
Mirajane reached out and took Yefrit's hand in an attempt to calm herself.
Yefried remained silent. Of course, he understood best that there were good and bad children. He often worked as a magician on the street and would encounter good children who were very polite, as well as very rude and unruly children.
"They said we're okay, we never had parents," Ryrom said.
“But Eddie was angry. He had parents, so he retorted, but those guys mocked him, saying that his parents didn’t want him anymore.”
“Eddie has been very sad ever since.”
“So I came up with this idea,” Rerom said. “I didn’t know his parents were already... I thought that if something happened at the orphanage, his parents would come to pick him up.”
"So that's how it is," the dean said, pulling Ryrom into his arms.
"Yeflit, what should we do?" Mirajane approached Yefrit and asked in a low voice.
“There’s nothing I can do.” Yefrit shook her head.
“But are we just going to ignore it?” Mirajane said.
“No one can figure out a solution to this kind of thing; you just have to get through it yourself,” Yevlit said. “Besides, we don’t know Eddie well enough.”
He looked at the dean, stood up and said, "Dean, this is all we can do. As for the rest—I think you can discuss it with Rerom. He's a smart kid and knows Eddie quite well."
"Okay." The dean nodded. "Thank you. As for the payment..."
"Let's not talk about compensation." Mirajane shook her head: "Just consider it our sponsorship of the institute."
"Thank you," the dean said solemnly.
Leave the orphanage.
Mirajane, still holding Yefrit's hand, asked, "Yefrit, do you think the Dean will ultimately choose to confess, or continue to hide it until Eddie is a little older?"
Yevlit said, "They've decided to keep it a secret, but they'll help Eddie get through his current psychological state."
"specific?"
“They would forge Eddie’s parents’ handwriting and send letters to Eddie to let him know he hadn’t been abandoned, until he was old enough to accept the truth,” Yevlit replied.
This was not a guess, but rather he was curious about the final outcome, so he used his magic to keep an eye on it.
This plan was actually proposed by Rerom.
This is truly a clever child.
early morning.
The guild's girls' dormitory.
Erza and Wendy were walking and talking in the hallway.
The door in front opened, and Juvia came out of the room.
"Good morning, everyone!" Juvia said with a big smile.
"Juvia, you seem to have a great day," Erza said with a smile.
“Juvia is happy every day!” Juvia said, “because I get to see Lord Gray every day—and today is a special day!”
"A special day?" Wendy asked curiously.
Juvia said with a happy expression, "Today is the tenth anniversary of my prayer to the gods to grant me the most perfect love."
“That was certainly a special day,” Erza said.
Juvia is a bit of a romantic. When she was a teenager, she envied others who had sweet romances, but she didn't. So she prayed to the gods to grant her a sweet romance.
Later, she met Grey and became absolutely certain that this was a gift destined for her.
Erza asked curiously, "So, are we going to celebrate?"
“No.” Juvia shook her head and said, “For me, it’s a holiday of thanksgiving, so I won’t celebrate it myself, but I’m going to give Lord Grey a gift.”
“But,” Juvia said with a hint of distress, “I don’t know what to give as a gift.”
“This is where a woman’s strength is put to the test,” Xia Lulu said.
