On the way, Snape spoke first, asking, "What does Quirrell want with you?"
"Professor Quirrell mentioned some dark magic in class, and he was worried it might affect me, so he gave me some psychological counseling."
"I'm telling the truth! Whether you believe it or not is up to you, Snape," Jerry thought to himself.
"Hmph!" Snape didn't say anything, but just snorted at Jerry, clearly not believing Jerry's words.
"Jerry Green, don't say I didn't warn you, don't try to be clever, stay away from Quirrell."
Jerry nodded repeatedly, praising Snape for being right, and then asked, "Professor, who is looking for me?"
"Dumbledore is looking for you. What's wrong? Did you break school rules and get caught by Dumbledore?"
Ignoring Snape's taunts, Jerry wondered if Dumbledore had found out about what happened in Quirrell's office.
Damn! That old bee's news travels incredibly fast!
Before long, the two arrived in front of a dripping stone beast.
"Remember the password: 'Zzzy Honeybee Candy.' Don't waste time, hurry up and go in!"
Jerry, seeing Snape standing there, couldn't help but ask, "Professor, aren't you coming up with me?"
However, Snape did not respond. He stood there silently, as if deep in thought. Then, he suddenly turned around and strode away.
Jerry approached the Dripping Beast, uttered the command, and a staircase leading to the principal's office appeared.
Upon entering Dumbledore's office via the stairs, one finds a spacious room with tall windows through which one can see the sky and distant views.
The walls of the room are adorned with portraits of past headmasters, while the tables and bookshelves are filled with ancient books and artifacts, with the Sorting Hat perched atop the bookshelves.
Beside the desk, there was a red bird perched on a bird stand. It was probably Dumbledore's phoenix, but judging from its appearance, Jerry thought it didn't have much time left and was about to be reborn.
"Headmaster Dumbledore, this is Jerry. Are you there?"
At the door, Jerry stopped and called out twice, but received no response. Just as he was filled with confusion, the Sorting Hat on the bookshelf spoke: "Come on in, kid, Dumbledore will be here soon."
"Long time no see, Mr. Sorting Hat!"
"Shut up, I don't want to talk to you!"
Just as Jerry was about to explain to the Sorting Hat, a portrait of the headmaster next to him shouted, "Child, come here quickly."
"Look at them, our Slytherin students, how noble and elegant they are. Let me introduce myself, young man, I am Phineas Black, you can call me Headmaster Black..."
"Shut up, Black, you're the most unpopular headmaster at Hogwarts..."
Before Jerry could even greet them, the portraits of the principal started fighting in Blake's frame, which looked quite interesting.
"Sorry, Jerry, something came up!"
When Jerry turned around, he found that Dumbledore had returned to his office, accompanied by a sprightly old man carrying a large trunk.
“You don’t know him yet, let me introduce you! This is Newt Scamander, the expert in magical creatures. Newt, this is Jerry Green, the man you’re looking for.”
Newt scrutinized Jerry, then looked at Dumbledore before saying to Jerry, "Hello, Mr. Grimm, I am Newt Scamander."
Jerry was a little excited. He shook Newt's outstretched hand and said, "Hello, Professor Scamander. My friend and I really enjoyed your book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
The two had barely met and hadn't even had a chance to exchange more words when Dumbledore interrupted them, saying to Jerry, "Jerry, today's main purpose is to introduce you to Newt. Scamander will be at Hogwarts for the next few days, so feel free to ask him any questions. Now you can go back now!"
Jerry was a little confused. What was wrong with Dumbledore today? He was the one who summoned him, and now he was the one kicking him out.
With a puzzled look on his face, Jerry left the principal's office.
After Jerry left, Newt's expression changed, and he asked Dumbledore, "Albus, who was that child just now...?"
Dumbledore smiled, not surprised by Newt's reaction, and said, "You recognize this child?"
Newt gave a wry smile and said, "People who lived through that era will inevitably make some connections when they see this child."
"You guessed right, he is indeed a descendant of the Grindelwald family."
Seeing that Dumbledore didn't intend to hide anything from him, Newt asked curiously, "Do Gellert Grindelwald and those who are loyal to him know about this child's existence?"
After a moment of contemplation, Dumbledore said to Newt, "Gellert knows that this child was entrusted to me by him."
"Albus, are you sure Grindelwald is still in Nurmengard?"
Dumbledore shook his head and said, "Ten years ago, Gellert entrusted this child to me, and then he disappeared."
Newt asked in shock, "Why didn't you stop him? Have you forgotten how much we paid to deal with him back then?"
"For the greater good!"
Chapter 31 Tom, the Manufactured
Dumbledore said to Newt with a serious expression, "For...the greater good."
“Albus, you…” Newt stood up from the sofa in astonishment, now unable to tell whether the person in front of him was Dumbledore or Grindelwald.
"Albus, are you sure you know what you're saying?"
In response to Newt's questioning, Dumbledore said, "Of course, Newt, I'm not senile yet, and I'm not Gellert in disguise. Don't be nervous."
Hearing Dumbledore's words, Newt sighed and said, "To be honest, I don't understand, after all..."
Dumbledore understood what he meant, but there were some things that even Dumbledore himself couldn't explain.
“Newt, don’t worry, I know what you’re worried about. You don’t need to have any concerns, it’s just that there are some things I can’t tell you right now. When the time is right, you will know everything.”
After hearing Dumbledore's answer, Newt did not ask any further questions.
As a longtime friend, he understood Dumbledore's character and knew that Dumbledore would tell him what needed to be told.
"Just don't tell me you're planning to team up with Grindelwald to rule the world!"
Dumbledore laughed when he heard Newt's joke.
"Albus, does that child know about his origins?"
Dumbledore quickly replied, "Newt, this is what I need to tell you specifically. Jerry doesn't know about his origins yet, so you must be careful when you're with him. Jerry is very intelligent."
Newt nodded and said, "Albus, aren't you afraid of raising another Grindelwald?"
"No, you'll see once you spend some time with him. Jerry is better than all of us, and I've always felt that his personality is more like mine than Gellert's."
Newt: "..."
……
After leaving the principal's office, Jerry went straight to the library.
“Hey Hermione, do you know who I just saw? Newt Scamander.”
Upon hearing this news, Hermione jumped up excitedly and asked, "Is it the author of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'?"
Jerry nodded.
"Gentlemen, this is a library. Please refrain from making noise. If you have something to say, please go outside!"
Hearing Mrs. Pince's stern warning, Hermione's face flushed slightly, and she took Jerry's hand and led him to the outer corridor.
“I heard from Dumbledore that Mr. Scamander will be at Hogwarts for the next few days. We’ll go to Hagrid’s hut after class this afternoon to find him. Mr. Scamander should be there.”
……
"Thump, thump, thump~"
In front of Hagrid's cabin, as soon as school was over in the afternoon, Jerry, carrying Tom who was dozing on the grass, and Hermione rushed there. Newt Scamander opened the door for them.
"Mr. Scamander, I didn't expect you to be here already!"
Newt smiled and said, "I knew you would come looking for Hagrid, so I came here as soon as I left Dumbledore's."
"Let me introduce you, this is my friend Hermione Granger, she really loves your book!"
Hermione said excitedly, "Hello, Mr. Scamander, it's an honor to meet you. I really enjoy your book!"
Newt greeted Hermione with a smile and then ushered the two into the cabin.
Jerry looked around but didn't see Hagrid. Curious, he asked, "Sir, isn't Hagrid here?"
Newt replied, "Hagrid is still in the Forbidden Forest, so you don't need to worry. However, he mentioned some things in his letter that made me think it's necessary to check on your pet first."
After Jerry nodded, he handed Tom, whom he was holding, to Newt.
Newt took Tom's gift and held it with great excitement, examining it carefully.
Fifteen minutes later, Newt frowned and said to Jerry, "Mr. Green, can you tell me where you got this pet?"
Seeing Newt's expression turn serious, Jerry replied, "It suddenly appeared in my room before school. Is there something wrong, Tom, sir?"
Hearing Jerry's words, Newt said, "Tom looks like a crow or a raven, but if you look closely at its claws, you'll find that neither crows nor ravens have such sharp and cold claws."
"Furthermore, I just cast an attack spell on Tom's feathers with my wand, but as you can see, it didn't leave a single mark. Merlin's beard, its defensive capabilities are truly astounding."
Jerry took Tom's feathers and touched the feathers that had just been attacked; they were still smooth to the touch.
"So, Mr. Scamander, what do you mean?"
Newt replied seriously, "There are only two possibilities: either Tom is a magical creature that has not yet been discovered, or... or Tom was created by humans."
Upon hearing Newt's second half of his sentence, Jerry jumped up from his chair, his face filled with disbelief.
Seeing that Jerry was getting a little too emotional, Hermione gently tugged at his hand, signaling him to calm down.
After calming himself down, Jerry said to Newt, "Sir, Tom is a living, breathing human being. How could he have been created?"
"Don't be nervous, Jerry, this is just a possibility. Maybe Tom is an extremely rare breed, and I may never have seen one before."
Jerry understood that Newt was trying to comfort himself.
How could Newt, who has studied magical creatures for so many years, have never seen or even heard of such a creature?
Jerry continued, "Mr. Scamander, do you know of any masters in the current magical world who can create magical creatures, or is there some method to achieve this? Alchemy?"
Newt said, "Jerry, alchemy is extremely dangerous, and creating life through alchemy is illegal. If the Ministry of Magic finds out, you will be imprisoned in Azkaban and never be free again!"
“Mr. Scamander, is Gellert Grindelwald alright?”
Upon hearing Jerry's question, Newt's expression became somewhat unnatural, his eyes darting around, and he dared not look Jerry in the eye.
Newt lowered his head and stammered, "Jerry, why would you ask that? How could it be him? Isn't Grindelwald still imprisoned in Nurmengard?"
