(So it really is a pornographic book? Kid, does that mean you've grown up already?)
Seeing that his child had secretly hidden books, Genichiro couldn't help but sigh, wondering how he should talk to his child about it.
"Renling, hand over the item. This is not something you should be looking at at your age."
"Dad, I..."
"Listen to me, this kind of thing is not something you should be watching at your age."
Seeing his son's unwilling expression, Genichiro couldn't help but sigh.
Seeing his father's serious expression, Ren had no choice but to hand the book in his arms to Genichiro.
However, when Genichiro took the book, he discovered that it was not a pornographic book at all, but the latest single volume of "Parasyte".
"A comic book?! This is what you were hiding?"
Looking at what he had in his hand, Genichiro was dumbfounded. He had planned out how to explain the knowledge to his child, but in the end, it was just a comic book.
At this point, Genichiro still somewhat skeptically flipped through the comic book, only to find that it contained only serious content and nothing particularly explicit.
Why would your son hide something like this?
"Because, because Dad, don't you hate comics?"
Faced with her father's doubts, she spoke with a sense of grievance.
That's right. As a die-hard fan of Naoto, what I especially love to read are Naoto's comics. I even created a Twitter account specifically to discuss the content with everyone.
He was even a participant in a small forum about Parasyte manga.
However, despite being such a die-hard comic book fan, he has a father who doesn't particularly like comic books.
As a connoisseur of various works, Genichiro Honda has a particular fondness for all kinds of literary and artistic works, but he has a different prejudice against comics.
He believes that so-called comics are nothing more than a form of psychological manipulation created by politicians to numb the public. Compared to genuine literary works, they are far inferior.
Only bored people read comics.
Although he does not deny that animation has indeed boosted the domestic economy.
This attitude was known not only to his son, but also to people in the industry who knew what kind of temper he had.
That's why his son secretly brought the comics home instead of telling him.
Seeing his father remain silent, the man then took out a whole set of comics from under his bed.
Seeing his son's pitiful look, Genichiro finally softened.
Although he doesn't really like comics, he wouldn't stop his son from reading them just because he wants to.
My son is already exhausted from all the tutoring classes, and although comics aren't very valuable, I don't object to him relaxing a bit.
Rather, compared to those things, the comics alone were a relief for him.
"Alright, Dad won't take yours, you see. But you have to promise me, you can't slack off on your grades."
"Dad?! Are you serious?!"
"Of course it's true. Your dad hates comics just because of work. Don't worry about reading them."
After comforting his son, Genichiro wanted to go outside. He was sitting on the sofa at home when he suddenly became curious about what kind of comic could make his son so fascinated.
"I remember, the name of that manga was Parasyte? It's a very strange name."
In an attempt to understand what his son liked, Genichiro bought a set of Parasyte manga the next day and started reading it.
At first, Genichiro was dismissive, thinking that what was so special about a comic book? It was just something for kids to read. But then, Genichiro became deeply captivated by the content.
The bizarre visuals immediately evoke an impression of distortion and horror.
Imagine that the person you know best has been replaced by a strange entity, but you have no idea.
These monsters see humans as food. Faced with this situation, what choices will humans make?
From Shinichi Izumi's initial cowardice, to his later single-minded pursuit of revenge, and finally to his understanding of the meaning of life.
Migi and Shinichi Izumi formed a friendship, and in order to save Shinichi, Migi did not hesitate to completely merge a part of herself with him.
The message it conveys goes far beyond mere entertainment.
Genichiro wasn't unfamiliar with comics, but this was the first time he had ever seen one that revealed the complexities of human nature and incorporated science fiction like this one.
A private detective, while investigating a monster, ends up losing his family and friends, and is willing to pay with his life to avenge his enemies.
These scenes made Genichiro feel as if he were watching a science fiction masterpiece that explores human nature.
The philosophical ideas contained within made Genichiro start to ponder what choices he would make if he were in that position.
Will he end up like that private detective whose family was destroyed, fighting to the bitter end? Or will he become as despondent as the protagonist's father?
All aspects of life are vividly portrayed in a single comic.
This comic is more than just entertainment.
Chapter 123: The Sudden End
Parasyte has suddenly ended.
Compared to the ending of "The Strain", the ending of "Parasyte" was relatively peaceful.
Of course, that's not entirely true. The main reason is that the ending was so sudden that even the readers didn't have time to react before it just ended like that.
Many people thought there would be other twists after defeating the final boss, Goto, but it ended just like that?
The ending, in particular, was seen by many as far too hasty and inexplicable.
The strongest boss, Goto, a terrifying monster that even the human army couldn't handle, was actually killed by the protagonist with just an iron rod. That's too far-fetched!
And what happened to Migi and Shinichi in the end? Did Migi ever come back? None of this is explained in the manga; it's as if the story was abruptly cut short.
In the three days following the series' conclusion, a large number of netizens posted on forums, seemingly wanting to find out the hidden story behind it.
There were even rumors circulating on the forums that Naoto was seriously ill and had no heart to draw comics, so the story had to be forcibly ended.
However, amidst the various speculations, Naoto did not step forward to explain anything, as if everything outside was no longer relevant to him.
It wasn't until renowned commentator Genichiro Honda shared his perspective that people finally understood Naoto's thinking, but the industry was also thrown into an uproar.
Genichiro, who had served as a judge at various film events and awards ceremonies, and who vehemently disliked comics, actually expressed his appreciation for a comic.
Although many people suspected that this person was subtly mocking something, at least to outsiders, he was indeed praising the comic.
What could possibly make this stubborn guy so appreciative of a comic book?
Driven by curiosity, many people began to read this commentary.
………………
"Parasyte is undoubtedly an extremely brilliant work. In fact, when I wrote this review, I never thought that I would one day make such a comment on a manga."
I initially started reading this comic because of my son, who had just started junior high school. To get to know him better, I found this work, and I was quickly captivated by its content.
The comic depicts a parasite that infests the human brain, manipulating human behavior and transforming them into sentient beings. Furthermore, their nature is to prey on humans. The protagonist's right hand is devoured by the parasite, causing him to merge with it and enter a symbiotic relationship. He becomes another being caught between humanity and the parasite.
The reason I found it so wonderful is inseparable from the content expressed in the comic itself.
For a long time, I've been troubled by the way humanity exists. Humans are always self-centered, always prioritizing their own interests, trampling all other living beings underfoot for their own enjoyment and service. Humans have even invented a word: "demon," to describe cruel, ugly, bloodthirsty, murderous, and cold-blooded monsters. But on this earth, besides ourselves, are there any other beings that come closest to this word?
Humans are the dominant species on Earth, standing atop all living things. In the eyes of all things, we are not angels, but demons. The Earth sees us the same way, recklessly polluting and turning our beautiful planet into a murky wasteland. It seems the Earth senses the need to control humanity, and thus has created parasitic creatures to manage our population. Just as the human physiological system can regulate its own bodily functions, the Earth will eventually regulate its biological balance and control humanity in return.
Humans are the biggest destroyers in the entire ecosystem.
Many people don't understand why Goto, who seemed invincible throughout the story, would lose his life because of a small iron spike.
Admittedly, Goto is an extremely terrifying character throughout the story. He is ruthless and cold-blooded, and has even replaced the upper echelons of human society, continuing to climb the ranks. He can ignore most of humanity's weapons and can even use his intelligence to counter humanity's plans.
Goto's power even brought the protagonist to the brink of death at one point.
And yet, this very person died from a contaminated iron spike—something that was utterly insignificant in the extent of human-caused pollution, but deadly poisonous to the parasite. This is undeniably ironic.
I really like a quote from Goto:
When it comes to killing, no creature on Earth can compare to humans. But what you hold in your hands now is something else entirely, for something more important—to protect the balance of the biosphere. This is the work that humanity should have been doing. In time, all of humanity will realize that our numbers have reached a point where they must be reduced. Littering is a far greater sin than killing. Then you will realize the importance of our parasitic existence, and even begin to protect us; you will have to pay more attention to your natural enemies. Then, these natural enemies can restore the beauty of nature to a stable state. And then the biosphere will regain its balance.
When I saw this, I suddenly realized that the so-called parasites were not alien life forms at all; they represented the nature of Earth itself.
Humans have attracted parasitic creatures by excessively destroying nature. No matter how powerful the enemy is, it is insignificant compared to polluting nature.
Thinking back to Earth in the first episode, it turns out that this problem was already revealed to everyone from the very beginning.
Humans are hypocritical and cruel, willful and selfish. Isn't the version of himself that Shinichi Izumi sees in his illusion also a giant parasite?
Humans are the greatest parasites on nature.
Even so, the manga still gave me a moment of brilliance: the friendship between the protagonist and the parasite.
When humanity finally understands the importance of environmental protection, nature will return to its embrace. Xiao You is nature's last hope for humanity. After reading the final chapter, I couldn't help but feel tears welling up in my eyes.
This story, while exploring the protection of nature, also reveals the complexities of human nature, making it a truly exceptional tale. If it's science fiction, I personally believe it's the most brilliant science fiction novel from Japan in the last decade.
Regardless, this comic is at least worthy of the Nebula Award, and I will definitely vote for it when it comes to the Nebula Awards.
After reading this review, readers seemed to finally understand the whole story.
The foreshadowing was actually laid out from the very first chapter? Even the title of the comic itself reveals the extent of human destruction of nature?
This comic is actually an environmental comic?
This makes one marvel at how incredibly skilled Naoto (a Japanese person) is.
Chapter 124: Hachiman Wants to Write a Novel
"Straight Man Bro! You're amazing!"
"Calm down, that's the best approach. I know it's impressive, but you don't need to be so excited now, do you? After all, three days have already passed."
Inside the creative department, Moritaka and Akito looked at Naoto with adoration. Although it felt great to have two admirers, it had been so long, shouldn't the excitement have subsided by now?
In fact, not only Akito and Moritaka, but everyone in the club who knew about Naoto's affair now looks at him with admiration.
Those who watched the ending of Parasyte and understood it all felt immense admiration for Naoto.
"It's something to be proud of that Naoto-kun was able to impress Honda Genichiro. Please don't underestimate yourself for this."
