He looked up at the neon sign of 'Huimei Communications' above his head and slowly walked into the small shop.
This is Roger's Clinic disguised as a small communications shop.
"Hey, old man, are you about to die? You keep coming here every other day."
Roger was clearly excited to see He Ao. He circled around He Ao once, then turned around and took out his bracelet to send He Ao a body donation agreement. "Quick, old man, sign this agreement quickly, otherwise what if you die too suddenly and are sent directly for cremation?"
"Give me some more of that wound medicine."
He Ao didn't respond to his comment.
"injured?"
Roger glanced at He Ao with surprise, then pressed the button next to him. The electric roller shutter door slowly closed, and he gestured for He Ao to follow him into the clinic inside.
He Ao skillfully followed him into the inner room, and then watched as he took out a large glass jar from under the cabinet. The jar contained a black, ointment-like medicine.
“You know, this medicine is a top-secret formula, not for sale,” he said, opening the lid of the glass jar. A strong, strange stench wafted out of the jar. “Take off your clothes, I’ll apply the medicine to you, and I’ll sell as much as I can.”
He Ao knew this guy's rules; if he said he wouldn't do takeout, he wouldn't. So he sat on the stool next to him and started taking off his shirt.
"Old man, look at your body, your muscles, wow, the definition..."
As He Ao removed his clothes one by one, uncovering the bandages he had wrapped around his body to reveal his muscular physique, which resembled a coiled dragon, and his beautiful curves, Roger exclaimed in amazement.
He could even see light in his eyes.
"If you were a big-breasted, curvy beauty, I would really love it when you said these things."
He Ao looked at him and said coldly.
“What’s the point of women? I only like perfect bodies,” Roger said, taking out a piece of plastic, picking out a dollop of black, ointment-like medicine, walking up to Heo, and carefully examining the cracks on Heo’s body.
"Old man, have you turned yourself into an inflatable doll? Your muscles are all torn apart."
He didn't answer, but instead asked, "Do you know Christos?"

Upon hearing the name, Roger paused, his hand still applying medicine, and asked with some surprise,
"Old man, you're about to be buried and you're starting to care about politicians?"
“I just wanted to find out who the next mayor is, to see if they will come up with any policies that are good for us old folks,” Heo replied slowly. “I heard that Christos is a frontrunner for the next mayor?”
“Your information is obviously inaccurate,” Roger said, shaking his head as he applied ointment to Heo. “Our current mayor, Vent, will most likely be re-elected.”
He gestured with his chin, indicating that He Ao should look at the window to the side.
He followed his gaze and looked at the billboard outside the narrow one-way window, which displayed the huge image of Mayor Vent.
"These politicians, giving speeches, distributing benefits, building teams, running ads—it all costs money. Where does that money come from? How much are their salaries? Isn't it all paid by conglomerates?" Roger slowly applied medicine to He'ao.
"The corporations clearly prefer our Mayor Vent; that guy named Christos isn't getting enough resources."
Look, you old man, you only know the name Christos, but you don't know anything about what he did or his policies. Our mayor has been in office for eight years, and although he hasn't made any great achievements, he hasn't made any mistakes either.
Imagine two people standing before you: one with stable governance, constantly bombarded with advertisements and propaganda to become a familiar face; the other with little to no reputation, whose policies you barely know. If you had to choose between them, who would you ultimately vote for?
If it were Rijette, he would vote for the current mayor, Vent.
This is what most people think, and it's also why Heo has always believed that Winter will be re-elected. However, he is not here to learn about the election. Reggie doesn't really have much memory of Christos, but he knows that Christos seems to be Winter's main rival.
That's why he asked Roger, a well-informed person, about Christos.
Of course, you can find information online, but there are only two kinds of information about Christos online.
The first type is the persona created by Christos' campaign team: a sunny, righteous, and somewhat humorous person dedicated to devoting his life to Dawn City.
The second type is negative news, whether true or false, about Christos's private life, scandals, and erotic stories, dug up by his political enemies.
The information on the internet has obviously been curated and presented to people in a way that they want others to see. Therefore, He Ao chose to directly consult well-informed individuals like the underground doctor.
Roger and he had a good relationship, so there was no need for Roger to deceive him. Besides, this guy was a skilled doctor and knew many people, so he probably had some inside information.
Heo needs a clear character portrait of Christos.
He looked at Roger and laughed, "So what is his governing philosophy? Does it have anything to do with us old folks?"
Roger paused for a moment, then stood up, scraping out a fresh batch of black ointment from the glass jar as he chuckled, "Old man, didn't you say you were retiring from this business? What have you taken on now?"
A life-or-death mission?
Without giving He Ao a chance to answer, he continued, "As for Christos, if he really becomes mayor, it would indeed be a good thing for an old man like you who is about to die."
Then, under He Ao's questioning gaze, he asked, "Have you heard about the healthcare reform ten years ago?"
"I heard."
He Ao nodded.
Reggie had this memory in his mind: ten years ago, Reggie still hoped to heal his injured leg again, but at that time he did not have enough money to pay for medical expenses, and no insurance company was willing to sell insurance to a cripple like him that covered the treatment of his injured leg.
So he worked odd jobs in various places, trying to save enough money for medical expenses.
Ten years ago, the then mayor proposed a healthcare reform plan, which included reducing health insurance costs, making health insurance available to all citizens, government intervention to control medical prices, and reducing medical expenses.
At the time, Reggie had high hopes that if the plan became widespread, he could have hope of treating his injured leg. However, the plan eventually fell through and was never followed up.
In fact, given Reggie's fighting prowess, his income was not low. At his peak, his weekly salary was as high as 3000. However, even so, he could not raise enough money to treat his injured leg in a short period of time. Later, he missed the best time for treatment and has been limping ever since.
Later, as his body aged, he gave up on the idea and found a stable job as a librarian, devoting himself to martial arts training.
"Is this related to Christos?"
He Ao sorted through the memories in his mind and asked slowly.
"He was the one who came up with this plan back then," Roger said, walking up to He Ao again with the medicine in his hand.
"He was a member of the mayor's campaign team at the time. After the mayor was elected, he served as the Minister of Health and Human Services for Dawn City. You know, federal healthcare is completely controlled by the medical consortium and the health insurance consortium. This department is basically a department with little power."
But he managed to pull off a healthcare reform plan and even gained the mayor's support.
“He sounded like a capable man,” Heo observed. “Looks like he didn’t succeed?”
"What good can come of offending both the medical conglomerate and the health insurance conglomerate at the same time?" Roger chuckled.
"Shortly after he came up with this plan, a lot of scandals about the then mayor appeared on the Internet, and the council began to prepare for the impeachment of the mayor. In the end, the mayor was scared and quickly shelved his plan and transferred him to a sinecure. Not long after, he resigned."
Roger calmly narrated as he applied the ointment to Heo.
"Since then, he has been involved in political activities in his personal capacity. Because of the previous medical reforms, although he offended medical and health insurance conglomerates, he also gained the support of some conglomerates that wanted to enter the medical industry. Of course, these conglomerates did not genuinely support him, but rather kept him as a bargaining chip to threaten medical and health insurance conglomerates."
Roger found a new roll of gauze and began to re-bandage Heo.
"This is his third time running for mayor. He failed to win the previous two times, so although he has a lot of momentum, second only to the current mayor of Vent, his chances of winning the mayoral election are very low. The conglomerate will not fully support him."
"But he really wants to be mayor and will seize every opportunity."
He gradually formed a picture of Christos in his mind.
Christos may appear to be living a life of luxury, but in reality, he's like a raging fire, so he'll seize every opportunity, and might even gamble on low-probability events.
After the young man mentioned the word 'mayor,' He Ao wondered what to do when things involved a tiger that might be temporarily unable to resist.
Who would risk their life to challenge a fierce tiger?
Now it seems that a hungry wolf that is already on the edge of a cliff might be able to do it.
Christos's ability to rise to his current position amidst such adversity suggests he is not a docile or kind lamb.
He was like a hungry wolf walking on the edge of a cliff.
To drive away wolves and tigers.
When things had come to this point, Heo knew he couldn't escape.
Because based on his understanding of Naja, he knew Naja would kill him.
He also wanted to avenge the murder of Naja by his clerics.
He needed to resolve this problem quickly so he would have time to investigate the beasts, and he also had a feeling that Naja might be involved in the beast incident.
Roger, who was bandaging the wound, looked at the old man with a full head of white hair in front of him and vaguely saw a color in the old man that he had never seen before.
Indifference, wisdom, and madness.

Chapter 76 The Commission (Please add to your favorites, read further, and vote with monthly tickets)
As the morning sunlight streamed through the office's floor-to-ceiling windows and onto the soft sofa, the slender woman lying on the sofa slowly stretched.
She glanced at the blanket draped over herself, then at the adorable red-haired girl beside her who was sleeping soundly with a slightly chubby face, and took off the blanket from herself and draped it over the girl.
In front of the sofa was a desk with a screen as its surface. The screen was covered with all sorts of drawings and writings, the result of her and the red-haired girl next to her discussing things all night yesterday.
The plan is to use the one million donation to build a school for homeless children.
The woman gathered her black hair, letting the loose strands fall neatly down her back over her shoulders. Then she emerged from the gap between the desk and the sofa, filled a cup with hot water, and made a packet of instant coffee.
After making the coffee, she carried it to her desk again, swiped the screen, and admired the results of last night's work.
Then she walked to the small desk next to her, opened her bag, and took out the books one by one.
"Ah~"
A comfortable sigh of relief came from behind her.
Red-haired Annie rubbed her eyes and shifted back on the sofa. "Carrie, what do you think our school should be called? What are you looking for?"
“I’m looking for a book,” Eka, holding a cup of coffee, said, rummaging through her bag with a puzzled look. “I clearly remember bringing it back yesterday.”
"What book?"
Anne rubbed her eyes, stood up groggily, and walked towards where Ekateri was standing.
"The Fearless Dawn, the mayor's autobiography."
