The demons cried out, "Wabibabu? Wabibabu?"
Okay, actually this involved a bit of Shen You's imagination; the demons' vocal organs sounded like some kind of insect, which he couldn't understand at all. But that didn't stop him from using telepathy to figure out what these monsters were saying.
"Wabi Babu? (Where have you been?)"
The demon gestured excitedly: Look, look! Look, I've caught another big treasure!
Then the demons turned their heads to look, following its gestures. They saw that Shen You, who was a helpless civilian just a second ago, had somehow produced armor parts and was now completely wrapped in a rapidly assembling suit of armor.
His helmet lit up, and the crystal on his chest shone. He slowly raised his head, scanning his surroundings through the rapidly launching UI interface in front of him.
The demon, which was excitedly gesturing, froze, its small head filled with great confusion.
Hmm? Wait a minute, this isn't the thing I caught.
But it never got the chance to figure it out.
Shen You raised his right palm, and a beam of light shot out. The Parademon was blasted straight through the chest and exploded into ashes in the light.
The demons were greatly alarmed.
"Wabi Babu! Wabi Babu! (Enemy attack!)"
The Parademons grabbed their weapons, spread their wings, and took to the air, unleashing beams of red-hot energy from their Apocalypse Energy Guns.
Shen You also took to the air, leaving a Mach-like afterimage behind him as he flew through the Parademons in mid-air. Wherever the afterimage went, some Parademons were sent flying backward with a bang, some exploded on the spot, some were pierced by a beam of light and turned into light on the spot, and several others were dismembered on the spot by a series of fast, blurry but gorgeous light effects.
One second. The afterimage flipped twice in the air and landed, the bottom of the metal combat boots leaving a trail of bright sparks as it braked at supersonic speed.
He stopped moving, without turning his head, and only then did several bursts of fire erupt behind him with a delayed rumble.
There's no need to capture Parademons alive. They have neither emotions nor intelligence, and even if you captured them, you wouldn't be able to extract any information from them.
Shen You rescued the captured hostages, changed into Batman's disguise, and contacted Gordon's side to arrange for their settlement. He then returned to the underground base and scanned and inspected the location.
Parademons cannot interrogate, but traces and clues may be left at the scene.
For example, an alien computer.
His gaze fell on a strange device that looked like a combination of biological and mechanical elements, like a sphere fixed to a metal base.
"Security scan passed. A computer-like terminal built with some kind of Apocalypse Technology," Pal reported after the scan. "No weapon risk detected."
"Can you crack it and see what's inside?"
“We’re trying. But it might take a while,” Pal said. “We’re not familiar with Apokolips technology, sir.”
"Okay, first block the signal to ensure no one can trace its location, then take it back and slowly crack it."
Shen You checked the time.
"I can go back and have a meal while I'm waiting."
Chapter 246 Trojan Horse
The heroine's party went very well. Shen You arrived on time, and the old wizard brought out a table laden with food. Although there were quite a few of his own creative new creations, he seemed to have prepared some of the more conventional dishes to cater to the guests' needs.
To be fair, although the wizard grandfather always liked to do strange scientific research, his culinary skills have improved quite significantly after being the head chef of HISHE for so long. As long as he doesn't do anything weird, the dishes he makes now taste pretty good, no worse than some Michelin-starred chefs.
During this time, Shen You also gave everyone a general overview of the basic information about Apokolips. This included information about the new gods who loved war and conquest, and about the most outstanding among the new gods, the doomed monarch Darkseid, and so on.
Judging from the current situation, Apocalypse and Earth are on the verge of a major war, and it wouldn't be surprising if they started fighting at any time. Everyone needs to keep their eyes wide open and pay close attention while running their daily errands in their respective circles.
After a few rounds of drinks, Da Chao received a phone call from Louise. Louise was now Clark's go-to partner, the two almost inseparable on every mission. According to Louise, she had an appointment to discuss an investigation for tomorrow.
So Clark said goodbye to everyone and left first.
As luck would have it, just ten minutes after Clark left, the terminal that had been seized from the Parademons in the lab was successfully hacked.
Some of the reports concerned human research, the technology of Parademon modification, and, more importantly, the current mission of the Parademon squad.
One of the primary tasks is to capture the Martians. However, due to the Martians' expertise in mental concealment and appearance distortion, their exact location cannot be pinpointed at present, and the search is still ongoing.
Second primary target: Kal-El, Superman. His identity has been confirmed as Clark Kent, a reporter in Metropolis. Mission status: In progress.
A squad of Parademon armed with Kryptonite was already heading for the Daily Planet at that moment.
When Shen You received Pal's report, the party was still going on. Seeing this, and still at the table, Shen You immediately ordered Pal to contact Superman.
“Signal blocked, unable to connect,” Pal replied. “All signal bands centered around the Daily Planet have been cut off.”
"This means they're about to make their move."
Shen You got up from the dining table.
Kara noticed his movement: "What happened?"
"Apokolips has launched an operation; they're carrying Kryptonite weapons and want to capture Superman."
Everyone was startled. Kara immediately jumped to her feet: "Ah, then we have to...we have to hurry and help Kara."
Diana and Ron immediately expressed their opinions. But Shen You was faster, so he took the lead and sped ahead of everyone. He flew like the wind, and the scenery in his eyes changed rapidly from cities to mountains and lakes and back to cities, as if zoomed in. In the blink of an eye, he had flown to the metropolis.
As soon as they arrived at the Daily Planet, they discovered that the Parademons seemed to have arrived earlier, and upon landing, they saw Parademons flying out from the top of the building.
However, Shen You was stunned when he saw this scene, and was a little caught off guard.
He never expected things to unfold this way.
A few minutes ago, Planet Daily.
"Are you insane, Sade?"
Perry, the editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet, stared wide-eyed at the old reporter, Sader, in front of him—a typical middle-aged man with a receding hairline and a beer belly, except that he was wearing a ridiculous Superman costume.
Indeed, the middle-aged reporter, Sader, was wearing a blue bodysuit and red underwear similar to those worn by Superman, but they looked rather ridiculous as they were squeezed tightly by his overweight figure. He also had a cheap red cape that looked like it was hand-woven on his back.
“I’m serious, editor. Because I’ve thought about it.” Sade said earnestly, “Every Superman story is either by Lois Lane or Clark Kent, and every time I get a tip, I rush over there like lightning, running red lights as fast as they can.”
I thought about it carefully, and then an idea came to me.
Perry looked at his ridiculous Superman costume with an expression that suggested he was an idiot.
"Don't tell me your plan is to use assignment to make yourself Superman so we can interview you, right?"
"How did you know?" Sader asked in surprise.
Perry: "."
"But not Superman. Look, there are so many superheroes now, why do we have to interview Superman? Why can't we have our own superheroes from the Daily Planet?"
As he spoke, he tried to puff out his chest proudly, but only managed to stick out his round belly.
Perry's face darkened: "So you can fly?"
"will not."
"Super strength?"
"No."
"You're fast?"
Sade's eyes widened: "How can a man say 'fast'?"
"Then what are you even talking about?"
“But I’ve studied boxing for a few years!” Sader quickly said. “With some professional protective gear, fighting criminals won’t be a problem.”
"You mean hockey protective gear when you say 'professional protective gear'?" Perry asked with a dark expression.
"Huh? You can read minds? How did you know that?" Sade exclaimed in surprise.
“Because last month in Gotham, some idiot painted his hockey protective gear black to pretend to be Batman, and he was sent to the hospital and almost became a vegetable.” Perry said coldly.
Such things are quite common in this day and age. Superheroes are constantly emerging in every city and region, and many "enthusiastic citizens" try to emulate them. But the result...
Let's just say it, most of them are in a terrible state.
Just then, there was a knock at the door. Perry rubbed the bridge of his nose and decided to ignore the absurd reporter for the time being: "Come in."
Clark, who had just flown back from Gotham, pushed open the door and entered: "Perry? I heard you wanted to see me? I just... What's this?"
When Clark walked in and saw the middle-aged reporter, Sad, who was dressed up as him with a big belly, he was completely dumbfounded.
"Sade, are you going to a costume party?"
"What costume party?" Sade proudly put his hands on his hips and puffed out his belly again. "I'm ready to debut!"
"Debut... in a middle-aged and elderly band?" Clark asked cautiously.
"How rude of you, to debut as a superhero!" Sade scoffed. "Don't get too cocky, Kent. I won't let you interview me later!"
"Ok."
Clark glanced at his beer belly, then at his receding hairline, and hesitated, unsure of what to say.
Just then, a scream came from the corridor outside. A storm suddenly arose, and a hurricane swept along the narrow corridor, smashing open the office door.
A team of demonic beings stormed into the Planet Daily and stormed into the editor-in-chief's office.
Without saying a word, the leader threw a grenade in before the person even entered.
Clark's pupils contracted, and he instinctively tried to step forward to shield the ordinary people in the room from the grenade's impact with his body. However, the shockwave from the grenade's explosion contained green krypton radiation, which instantly threw him backward, knocking him and the others in the room unconscious.
Several Parademons entered the room, their gazes sweeping across the space as they compared the images to the portable terminals on the back of their hands.
A screen popped up in the terminal, showing a picture of Superman and the message "Scanning for a match".
The camera automatically locked onto Clark, who had been blown up and was lying on the ground.
"DNA match successful, target found."
The Parademons exchanged glances, looking at Clark, who was wearing glasses and a suit, and then at Superman in the target photo in their hands.
"Wabi Babu? (Doesn't look like him)"
"Wabi Babu. (Yeah, yeah, this guy has frames on his face, Superman doesn't.)"
"Waabi Babu Waabi Babu (The system must be broken)."
Then, the gazes of several Parademons all fell on Sade, who was wearing a Superman costume and had a beer belly.
The demons' eyes lit up in unison.
“Wabi Babu! (That’s him! Exactly the same!)”
