The Holy Dragon Guardian was not to be outdone; a white magic circle flashed before him, and holy white dragon flames spewed from its mouth.
The two flames collided and intertwined, neither able to gain the upper hand.
However, the Guardian's attack consumes the spellcaster's magic power. The Thought Entity felt its energy rapidly draining away, consuming several times the magic power required to summon the raven.
Bard stared in disbelief, his gaze shifting between Aaron and the white dragon. "Heh! I must be dreaming. I can't believe I've fought the dragon Smaug to this extent."
The townspeople who were busy running away also stopped, their eyes filled with piety, and some even knelt down to worship.
“Gaius…is he really that powerful?” Kiri stared wide-eyed in disbelief. “We’re definitely going to win now.”
“No.” Tarell looked at the thought entity and frowned slightly. “This magic is very powerful, but it also consumes a lot of energy. He’s only a teenager, he can’t last long.”
And indeed, the right hand of the thought entity was already trembling.
Even a mid-level archmage wouldn't dare to expend so much magic power, let alone a clone that now only has half its power.
"Bard, please, please, please don't get distracted!" The thought-form gave a forced laugh and controlled the Guardian to crash hard into Smaug.
Bang~bang~bang~
Two dragons, one large and one small, fought in the night sky in the most primal way.
Smaug had a size advantage several times that of the Holy Dragon, giving him an absolute upper hand in close combat. He used his wings and claws to attack relentlessly, making it difficult for the Holy Dragon to maintain its form.
The thought body was teetering on the brink of collapse. In less than two minutes, its magical energy had dwindled to less than a quarter. If it continued, it would disappear entirely.
Where are you, Main Body? You promised to provide timely support!
Chapter 270 The Birth of the Dragon Slayer
At this moment, Aaron is admiring the heroic performance of his clone on Lonely Mountain.
At the same time, he was secretly considering whether to place an order for Polymorph, since he had only earned a thousand magic points, which was just enough to make him feel like he could afford to splurge.
But he also hesitated. He could guess that his Animagus would be a raven and a dragon, but judging from the posture of his guardian deity, he knew that even if he became a dragon, he would only be a dozen meters tall.
The guardian deity is being beaten so badly now, it probably won't be much better when it's his turn.
Transfiguration is indeed powerful, but it's still not enough against Smaug. He could be torn to shreds in less than a minute, and he doesn't want to die a gruesome death.
“Is that… a dragon?” Bilbo murmured, watching the white dragon battling Smaug above Lake-town.
“It’s obvious,” Balin said. “But it can’t beat Smaug, and it doesn’t seem like a real dragon; it must be some kind of advanced magic.”
As he spoke, he turned his gaze to Aaron, and the others looked at him suspiciously.
"Hey, hey, hey, why are you all looking at me?" Aaron chuckled sheepishly. "I'm right here. Do you think I can use that kind of magic?"
“But there’s no one else but you,” Bilbo smiled. “Didn’t you say everything was arranged? Laketown is where Smaug will die.”
“Gaius,” Thorin looked at him meaningfully, “can you give me an explanation?”
“Alright! That’s right, just as you think, I summoned that dragon.” Aaron raised his head proudly, looking down at everyone with arrogance. “Only a few geniuses can learn this kind of ancient magic, and I am one of them.”
However, each use consumes a crazy amount of magic power, and the (thought entity) might disappear if one is not careful.
Upon hearing this, everyone exchanged glances, and then tacitly agreed that this magic had nothing to do with Aaron, because based on their understanding of Aaron, he wouldn't be so high-profile.
“Aaron,” Bilbo pointed in the direction of Lake-town, “tell me honestly, did you create this?”
“Of course I arranged it,” Aaron said casually. “Who else but me would know such advanced magic? It couldn’t be Gandalf, could it?”
"So that's it! Gandalf is back!"
Bilbo suddenly felt he had seen through the truth. No wonder Aaron was so confident that Lake-town would be Smaug's death site. It must have been a tactic he had discussed with Gandalf beforehand.
Aaron: ......
I'm an honest kid, but no one believes the truth!
Just as Aaron was thinking this, he heard the cry for help from the thought entity in his mind. When he turned around, he saw that the Holy Dragon Guardian was being brutally beaten by Smaug, and its form was on the verge of disintegrating.
"Everyone, I have to go help. They can't kill that dragon without me." Aaron sighed helplessly, then used Phantom Teleport to instantly teleport to the top of the clock tower.
"Did he go to Lake-town?" Bilbo asked incredulously.
“I’m afraid so, Bilbo,” Balin said. “With him on the team, we might be able to kill the dragon.”
......
"Sorry I'm a little late, but not too late either." The moment Aaron appeared, he took the black wand from the thought entity and quickly cast the Guardian Charm.
"Call the gods to protect you!"
With a surge of powerful magic, the crippled white holy dragon suddenly regained its strength, its scattered form gradually solidified, miraculously repelling Smaug, and then charging forward again without regard for anything else.
"My magical energy is less than one-tenth of what it used to be," the thought entity said weakly.
"Then let's get ready quickly!"
"You two...are...twins?" Bard asked in astonishment.
"No." ×2.
Aaron and the thought entity said in unison.
Bard raised an eyebrow; they were definitely twins.
"Bard." The thought picked up a black arrow from the ground and said solemnly, "You know what to do, right?"
"I will hit the target, but I may not be able to kill Smaug."
“Don’t worry about that, leave it to me,” Aaron said. “You just need to hit the target.”
The thought entity and Aaron exchanged a glance. The former used the illusion spell, while the latter pretended to be out of breath and stopped casting the spell.
The Holy Dragon Guardian instantly disintegrated, turning into white specks of light and disappearing.
Smaug paused for a moment, then looked triumphantly in the direction of the clock tower. "You can't hold on any longer, can you!"
Aaron did not answer, but simply took a step back, seemingly unintentionally.
“Looks like I wasn’t wrong.” Smaug’s lips curled into a cold smile. “But I won’t come any closer. I won’t give you any chance.”
Aaron: ......
Generous gift of crabs! If the dragon lies low, nobody else will have a chance.
"As expected, opportunities can only be created by oneself!" The thought entity sighed helplessly, then directly apparated to Smaug's back and forcefully plunged the black arrow in its hand.
呲!
With a flash of sparks, a piercing sound rang out from Smaug's back, followed by an angry roar.
"Who?"
The entity of longing did not answer, but instead dragged the black arrow forward at breakneck speed.
The dragon scales on Smaug's back jingled, and a row of sparks flashed by, standing out conspicuously in the night sky.
Not very harmful, but extremely insulting.
"Damn bugs."
Smaug cursed under his breath, glanced at the clock tower, and circled into the sky, intending to deal with the guy on his back first.
“Bard”.
"I'm aiming, but it's too fast," Bard said anxiously, constantly adjusting the angle of the crossbow.
“I’ll slow him down,” Aaron said, waving his wand forcefully across the lake.
A magic circle large enough to cover half of Lake-town appeared beneath the lake's surface, and dozens of icy streams of water rose from the lake, crashing at incredible speeds into Smaug, who was swirling and flying in the sky.
“This…” Bard stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
"We spent a lot of time preparing this magic circle at the bottom of the lake today; finding the black arrow was just a side thing."
We were originally planning to build a water dungeon, but for now, we'll just have to make do!
Bang~bang~bang~
Smaug was struck in the abdomen first, and the dragon flames that were brewing were doused with cold water, causing it to stagger in mid-air.
Then more and more water crashed against its body, which enraged it, but the huge dragon body still fell uncontrollably downwards.
Bard seized the opportunity and decisively fired the last black arrow.
puff!
This time, Smaug was caught off guard. The black arrow struck the wound in its left chest, penetrating completely into its body, with only the fletching protruding.
"what!"
Smaug roared in agony as he crashed into and destroyed large sections of buildings as he fell.
It staggered to its feet, enduring immense pain as it flapped its wings and flew upwards, but as it ascended, it gasped for breath and teetered on the brink of collapse.
Seeing this, Bard breathed a sigh of relief, "We won."
“But it’s not thorough enough,” Aaron said with a meaningful smile.
The phantom of the thought body teleported back, its body gradually turning transparent and merging with the original body.
"What is this?" Bard swallowed hard. "You... this..."
"Don't overthink it. We're really not twins. This is just a simple clone technique," Aaron said calmly, then looked at Smaug struggling in mid-air, feeling it necessary to give Death some face.
He grabbed the black arrow left behind by the Spectral Entity, his body entered the black and white spatial vortex, and reappeared in front of Smaug's chest.
"The time to seize the dragon's head has come," Aaron thought excitedly, one hand gripping the arrow in Smaug's chest, the other plunging the black arrow deep inside.
He then cast several more spells in succession, chanting, "Heart-piercing, bone-piercing, bone-piercing..."
"what!"
Smaug let out a bloodcurdling scream, and the entire dragon plummeted from the sky.
Normally, the spells wouldn't have been able to harm it at all, but now that it had been hit by two black arrows and was on the verge of death, the effects of these spells were amplified infinitely.
boom!
Smaug landed on the town with a tremendous roar.
A shower of gold coins rained down, leaving Aaron completely bewildered. Even if there were rewards for slaying the dragon, it shouldn't be this hasty!
