“Here you go, Sigrid,” Bard said with a smile, handing her the things he had bought from the market.
"What a harmonious family!" Aaron remarked with emotion.
"Who's talking?" The eldest daughter, Sigrid, looked around in surprise.
“Yes, it’s a wizard, a wizard,” Barn said firmly, then looked to his side. “Gaius, show them.”
Aaron shrugged and then dispelled the illusion spell.
When the eldest daughter, Sigrid, saw Aaron, her eyes widened in surprise. She had never seen such a handsome man before.
"He really is a wizard." The younger daughter looked at Aaron curiously. "Can you teach me magic?"
"Uh...it depends on talent. Some things you can't just learn if you want to," Aaron said tactfully. Wizards are quite rare in this world, and this family doesn't have any wizard blood at all.
“Barn, let them in.”
"I'll go too," Aaron said, full of interest. "Where's your toilet?"
“Come with me!” Barn shrugged and led Aaron down the stairs.
He looked at the unobstructed lake in front of him, and after confirming that no one was watching him, he patted the wooden board on the wall.
boom! boom! boom!
A bald man emerged from the toilet. Dvalin looked at Barn with extreme seriousness and warned, "If you tell anyone about this, I'll twist your hand off."
Aaron looked at Devalin, whose face had turned black, and couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"You still dare to laugh?" Dvalin's face darkened even more. "And you, if you dare to tell anyone, I'll rip your tongue out."
"Hahaha..." Aaron clutched his stomach. "I'm very sorry, but I've also undergone strict training. No matter how funny it is, I won't laugh unless I can't help it."
Also, I admire your attitude, but unfortunately, you can't beat me, hahahahaha..."
Dwarin, his eyes blazing with anger, glared fiercely at Aaron before lifting the toilet lid and climbing out of the lake.
Barn tried to pull him up, but he slapped his left hand away, saying, "Don't touch me."
“Go up that way.” Barn pointed to the stairs, then pulled Bilbo out of the toilet, followed by the third, the fourth…
With each person who came out, Aaron's unrestrained laughter felt like a knife to the heart, until the last person, when Aaron managed to suppress his laughter.
It's already quite remarkable that Qili has managed to hold on this long. If he gets agitated by this taunt, the poison might spread even faster.
“Dad, why are these dwarves crawling out of our toilet?” Sigrid asked.
"That was a brilliant finishing blow," Aaron thought to himself. He had clearly felt Qili stagger, which was undoubtedly a blow to his heart.
"Will they bring us good luck?" the younger daughter asked excitedly.
"Not necessarily." Aaron patted her head and put a gold coin in her pocket. "But I'll bring you good luck."
"Here you are, your brother's pocket money."
After everyone came out, they all gathered around the fire.
Winter is approaching, and they spent nearly half an hour in the cold lake, each of them shivering from the cold.
Bud distributed the blankets and his clothes from the house, and the three siblings even poured each of them a cup of hot water to warm them up.
Sigrid handed the water glass to Aaron. "Do you need some?"
"Thanks, but you don't need the water, just give me the glass." Aaron took out the bottle of wine. "I have this."
Aaron opened the bottle and poured a full glass, the rich aroma immediately filling the room.
"Wine," Ou Yin murmured, and the others also turned their attention to the wine bottle, swallowing hard in unison.
"Hey, hey, hey, have some manners, will you?" Aaron glanced at everyone with disdain, picked up his glass and took a big gulp. "It tastes good, better than Bilbo's brew."
"Why does this look like a key?" Barn asked, looking at the bottle stopper with a puzzled expression.
"Cough cough!" Aaron almost spat out the wine he had half-drunk. "Don't worry about the details. If you want it, I'll give it to you. If you don't want it, just throw it away."
Barn paused for a moment, then picked up the cork and threw it into the fireplace, adding a touch of warmth to the house.
"The dwarven crossbow." Thorin stared blankly at a dilapidated tower outside the window, on which sat a large crossbow.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Bilbo said.
“Indeed,” Balin explained. “The last time we saw these crossbows, the town was engulfed in flames.”
On the day the dragon arrived, the same day Smaug destroyed Lake-town, Lake-town's mayor, Girion, rallied his archers to attack the dragon.
However, dragon scales are extremely hard, even harder than the strongest armor. Only black arrows fired from a crossbow can penetrate them, but such arrows are very rare.
When Girion launched his final attack, there were very few of these arrows left.
“If Girion had actually hit the dragon that day, everything would have been different,” Thorin said regretfully.
“You talk as if you were there at the time,” Bard said as he walked over.
“Perhaps he really was there,” Aaron shrugged. “After all, he’s a dwarf, and they are all dwarfs.”
"Then they should know that Girion shot the dragon, leaving a scar on its left wing. One more shot would have killed the dragon."
puff!
Aaron spat out a mouthful of amber liquid, staring at Barn in astonishment. "Are you serious?"
"It's true."
"Where exactly is it? Near the heart?" Aaron asked anxiously. If nothing unexpected happened, they were about to slay the dragon, and it was necessary to figure out all of the dragon's weaknesses.
Chapter 257 The Prophecy That Will Soon Be Fulfilled
“It’s just a legend,” Dvalin laughed. “That’s all.”
“No, all legends are based on facts,” Aaron said seriously. “They are the original inhabitants of Lake-town, and no one knows the truth of the legends better than them.”
“Alright, even if it’s true, Smaug’s left wing is injured, but what about Black Arrow?” Dvalin raised an eyebrow. “There’s still one Wind Ballista left, but I bet nobody has Black Arrow, not even one.”
Aaron: ......
You might need Black Arrow, but I might not.
"What are you talking about?" Bard frowned. "Why are you so concerned about the dragon?"
“That’s none of your business.” Thorin looked directly at him. “You took our money, so what about our weapons?”
"Wait here."
After saying that, Bud walked down the stairs.
"Sigh!" Aaron shook his head. "Thorin, you need to be mentally prepared and not have any expectations."
Thorin forced a smile. He understood that Bard probably couldn't produce any powerful weapons, but there was nothing he could do at this point. As long as they weren't too bad, they would make do.
A short while later, Bud returned carrying a wet, black bag.
The bag clattered as it was placed on the table, and Thorin and the others eagerly opened it.
"My God!" Aaron's eyes twitched slightly. "I've tried my best to lower the bar, but these things still refreshed my already low standards."
"Excuse me, but could I sell these things for a single gold coin at the market?"
Bard was silent for a moment, then nodded hesitantly.
Aaron sighed and rubbed his forehead, having guessed something from Bard's expression.
These things are certainly not worth a gold coin, but in Longlake Town they are worth that price.
"What is this?" Thorin asked, picking up a 'weapon' with a grappling hook.
"A spear hook, made from an old harpoon."
"What about this?" Qi Li picked up a black hammer.
“We call it a ‘handle hammer.’ It’s made to look like a blacksmith’s hammer. It’s a bit heavy to hold, but it’s better than nothing for self-defense.”
The dwarves looked at each other in disbelief, and had to admit that these things were truly shocking and utterly astonishing.
“We’re giving you money to buy weapons. We want real, solid iron weapons.” Groin gave a negative review, displeased, because these ‘weapons’ were made of wood, except for a small part at the tip.
“This is utterly ridiculous.” Boff threw his weapon onto the table in dissatisfaction, as did the others.
“You won’t find anything better outside the town’s armory,” Bard said helplessly. “All the real stuff is locked up in the armory.”
"All the real stuff?" Aaron thought of something and scoffed, "Your mayor is a real bastard. If I'm not mistaken, he's worried about a rebellion against his rule!"
"Thorin, why don't we just take these and set off?"
"I can do it bare-handed, and so can you," Balin said, but he didn't notice that Bard's brow furrowed slightly when he heard the name 'Thorin'.
"If you ask me, we should set off now."
“You can’t go anywhere.” Bud put away his treasured 'weapon'. “There are spies watching this house, and even the whole dock in town may be under surveillance. You must wait until dark.”
The group exchanged glances but didn't voice any objections.
At this moment, Aaron noticed that Qili slowly sat down, his pale face devoid of any color.
"Mr. Bard, I hope you can get the medicinal herbs I need as soon as possible."
Bud nodded, walked out of the house, and leaned against the railing.
He kept repeating Thorin's name, his mood gradually becoming heavy.
Suddenly, he realized something, turned his head to look at the towering mountain peak, and then realized what the dwarfs in the house were up to.
The door opened, and Barn looked at his father. "Dad."
"Don't let them leave," Bud said hurriedly, heading down the stairs.
“Wait, Father.” Barn pointed to the room. “Aaron said he wants to go with you.”
"What? Doesn't he know there are people watching him outside?"
"So I changed my gear." Aaron came out wrapped in a thick scarf, wearing a hat, and even changed his clothes to Barn's.
"I am a legitimate human being. If I only show a third of my face, no one should be able to recognize me."
"Are you... really that serious?"
“Absolutely,” Aaron said seriously. “Kili is about to collapse. As the doctor, I need to prepare all sorts of herbs, and I might even have to test the medicine on that unfortunate thing.”
