"Ok!"
......
More than half an hour later, the dwarves rested in a room.
Bilbo, holding a water glass, sat by the fireplace. "I'm fine, let me sit a little longer."
“You’ve been sitting here for far too long,” Gandalf said, exasperated. “Since when have your mother’s tablecloths and china become so important to you?”
I remember that child who searched for fairies in the woods, always staying out late and returning home after dark, dragging twigs, mud, and fireflies on his back.
That little hobbit is only interested in what lies beyond the Shire's borders. The world isn't in your books and maps; it's outside.
“I can’t just wander around outside like this; I’m Baggins of Bag End.”
"How comfortable and self-righteous! But this scene seems so familiar!" Aaron said with a thoughtful smile. Gandalf persuading Bilbo is just like Vulco persuading Aaron—no problem.
“Bilbo, you have Tuk blood,” Gandalf said, pointing to a portrait on the wall. “Do you know that your great-great-great-uncle, Roaring Bull Tuk, was so huge that he could ride a real horse?”
"Yes."
"Yes, he can."
During the Battle of Greenfield, he attacked the Orc army, violently swinging his club at the Orc king's head, sending it flying into a rabbit hole at least a hundred yards away.
They won the war, and in doing so, invented the game of golf.
"So that's how golf was invented?" Aaron's lips twitched slightly. "But hitting an orc king on the head? That's ridiculous!"
Even if you remove the word "king," this statement still holds some truth.
Bilbo's face unconsciously broke into a smile. Although he knew it was Gandalf's fabrication, everyone was willing to hear such praise of their ancestors.
“All good stories deserve embellishment.” Gandalf glanced at Aaron. “There will be several more stories to tell when you return.”
“That’s one of my goals, too!” Aaron sighed. “But what I want isn’t the story, but the legend.”
“This goal seems a bit too big, and difficult to achieve,” Gandalf laughed. “But I must say that this adventure is a perfect opportunity for you.”
Can you guarantee I'll come back?
“He can’t do it,” Aaron interjected. “If he could, the contract wouldn’t have been written so extravagantly.”
We're risking our lives for a reward, and on a far-reaching adventure.
"But you signed it."
“Yes, you signed it.” Bilbo paused for a moment after saying that before looking at Aaron in astonishment. “You signed that contract?”
When? Why didn't you tell me?
"While you were unconscious."
As for why I didn't tell you... I think there are some things I can decide for myself.
“But, but you’re just a child,” Bilbo said anxiously. “You don’t need to take such a risk by going to Thorin to amend the contract.”
“I’m not going,” Aaron said decisively. “The Gaius family values the spirit of contracts the most. Even if it’s just an ordinary contract, I will abide by it to the end once I’ve signed it.”
“You, really…” Bilbo stood up from the sofa. “This is too hasty.”
You saw that contract, too. Lacerations, loss of abdominal organs, death by burning... My God, do you know how high the mortality rate is?
“I know that I signed the contract after careful consideration.”
“I heard that. That’s Gaius’s courage,” Gandalf said. “And you? Would you like to join the expedition?”
"I'm sorry, Gandalf, I can't sign it."
You've got the wrong hobbit.
After saying that, Bilbo left the room.
"Looks like you didn't convince him?" Aaron teased. "Are you feeling quite disappointed?"
“Bilbo will join,” Gandalf said confidently. “He has Tuk blood, is Belladonna’s son, and his adventurous spirit will drive him to make the choice.”
“I think so too,” Aaron shrugged. “But it has nothing to do with his family background; it’s just my opinion.”
Chapter 236 The Expedition Sets Off
The fire roared in the fireplace, and the thirteen dwarves, including Thorin, softly sang a poem:
Crossing the cold mountains and mist, we reached deep cellars and ancient caves...
We need to set off before dawn to find the location of the beautiful gold...
The pine trees howled on the highlands, the strong wind roared in the night, the crimson flames spread mercilessly, and the trees howled like torches...
Aaron lay on the sofa, staring blankly at the opposite wall.
He was not a dwarf and had not experienced the destruction of his country and the loss of his family, but he had a music teacher who could clearly feel the tragic grandeur in the poems.
They were fully prepared for this adventure, including death.
"Sigh!" Aaron sighed inwardly. "I'll help if I can, as long as I can keep myself safe!"
Those who are willing to fight to the death for their homeland are always admirable, no matter the circumstances.
......
The next day, before the sun had fully risen, Aaron was awakened by his biological clock.
“You’re awake.” Gandalf looked at him with amusement. “I was just about to call you. Thorin and the others are ready.”
Aaron rubbed his eyes, sat up from the sofa, and slowly stretched.
"Where is Bilbo?"
"He was sleeping soundly, so we didn't disturb him."
"Did he sign that contract?"
“No,” Gandalf said with some regret, “but I left the contract behind; he might sign it if he sees it.”
Aaron chuckled and then gave Gandalf a thumbs up.
Gandalf, you're amazing, you really are amazing!
I also have an elder like you, who always likes to scheme against others.
“You’ve misjudged the wizard. I’m not that kind of person,” Gandalf said righteously. “The choice has always been Bilbo’s.”
Aaron rolled his eyes. Last night you dug up all the glorious deeds of his ancestors for eighteen generations, gave him all sorts of pep talks, and described the world outside of the Charles, adding a whole pot of inspirational platitudes.
Seeing the empty house and a contract to join an adventurer's group when he wakes up today, the likelihood of him signing it will probably increase significantly.
"I'll wait for you outside. Thorin has prepared a pony for you."
"understood."
Aaron took his cloak from the shelf and went to the kitchen to fill a bag with water.
As he stepped out of Bag End, Gandalf and the thirteen dwarves were waiting for him at the entrance.
"Ahem! Don't look at me like that. The main character usually makes their appearance last."
“Child, no, Aaron,” Balin stroked his beard, “can you ride a horse?”
"I know a little bit." Aaron modestly pinched his index finger and thumb together, revealing a shallow gap.
But when he saw the remaining two mounts, he couldn't help but twitch his lips.
It really is a small horse; the mount isn't even as tall as him!
"One is reddish-brown, the other is white; you choose one."
"White, I guess!" Aaron said helplessly.
At this point, he dared not complain, because there were no other mounts available.
You can either ride one of these ponies or walk alongside the group.
Faced with these two choices, hesitating for even a second is disrespectful to your legs.
They mounted their horses and the expeditionary force headed toward the borders of the Shire.
After walking for a while, Aaron suddenly slapped his forehead, "I almost forgot."
System, check-in.
"Congratulations, host, for checking in at the Xiaer. You have gained three magic points."
Aaron wasn't too disappointed with the number. After pondering for a moment, he opened his personal panel.
[Host: Aaron Gaius]
[Magic Power: 8090 (Intermediate Archmage, the ultimate goal for most wizards)]
[Talent: Once in a Century (Increases magic power by 3 points daily)]
[Items: Moon Drop (can remove any negative spells), Resurrection Potion (can revive any creature that has died within one hour), Magic Carpet, Unactivated Dragon Slayer Crystal]
[Magic Point: 147]
Sure enough, without the Thoughts Form, I always felt like something was missing.
Moreover, the numbers in the last column were too meager. The only magic items left in the system shop were Polymorph (1000 magic points) and Patronus Charm (200 magic points), neither of which he could afford.
"The task is arduous and the road ahead is long!" Aaron sighed and checked the mission panel.
[Complete the pact with the dwarves; Reward: 1000 Magic Points]
[Defeat Smaug; Reward: 2000 Mana Points]
Aaron blinked, and couldn't help but grin.
This is exactly what he wants to do, and this is what he is doing.
Moreover, completing the mission so openly and honestly is much more enjoyable than at Hogwarts.
"What are you thinking about? You seem so happy," Gandalf asked curiously.
"I'm thinking... how to write my own story after defeating the evil dragon."
"Hahaha!
