After the results were announced, the Slytherin students applauded and cheered loudly, while the Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw students all sighed.
They had heard the Sorting Hat's assessment; Slytherin would be gaining an outstanding student.
“Just as I thought,” Aaron murmured, then picked up Abbe and walked toward the Slytherin table, while Professor McGonagall put away the list of new students and the Sorting Hat and went to her seat.
Draco, accompanied by two henchmen, greeted him warmly, and the prefect also gave him a warm welcome.
Aaron even saw Professor Snape, the head of Slytherin, nod slightly to him from the main seat, which made him feel quite flattered.
"Aaron, I knew you would be assigned to Slytherin. Only Slytherin is worthy of a genius like you."
"Didn't you notice how awful Weasley's face looked just now?" Draco said happily.
"Hey! You flatter me." Aaron waved his hand sheepishly. "I've never considered myself a genius."
As for Weasley's expression, that's none of my business.
Ding!Ding!Ding!
Professor McGonagall tapped the glass in front of her with her golden spoon. "Everyone, please pay attention."
Dumbledore rose from his seat, raised his hands, and looked at the students below with a broad smile. "Now, the banquet begins."
As soon as he finished speaking, the four long tables were instantly filled with all kinds of food. In front of Aaron alone, there was beef, lamb chops, pork chops, potatoes, pudding, pea sprouts, carrots, corn, and so on. It can be said that all the picky students were fully catered to.
Abe jumped right in front of Aaron, pointing at the chicken leg on the plate with her little paws while giving Aaron a longing look in her eyes.
"Uh... I understand." Aaron smiled and placed the food it wanted in front of it.
Just then, a grayish-white ghost crawled out from under the table and stopped right next to Draco, opposite Aaron.
This startled Draco, causing him to drop his fork onto the plate.
“Don’t worry, he’s Bloody Barrow, the ghost of our Slytherin house,” an older student said.
That being said, ghosts pose no threat to the living, and ghosts are floating everywhere in the hall.
But the one next to Draco was truly terrifying; he was emaciated, his robes covered in silver bloodstains, and he looked no different from a deranged serial killer.
Sitting across from him for a meal, Aaron felt a lot of pressure, while he expressed deep sympathy for Draco Malfoy sitting next to him.
After more than half an hour of dining time, the food and tableware on the table disappeared instantly, and the table became clean again.
After eating and drinking his fill, Aaron sat in a chair and felt that the pet he was holding had gained two or three pounds.
"Alright, it's time for bedtime now. Before that, let's do one last thing: sing the school song," Dumbledore said excitedly, as if this was the most important part of the entire Sorting Ceremony.
"Hogwarts has a school song?" Aaron looked at a freshman next to him in surprise, but the freshman looked blank and obviously knew nothing about it.
He then turned his gaze to a senior student, who looked deeply distressed. Aaron could read the torment and embarrassment on this senior's face.
Dumbledore flicked his wand, and a golden ribbon floated out, bearing lines of text—lyrics:
Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hogwarts
Please teach us the knowledge.
Whether we are balding old people,
The child still has a sprained knee...
“Everyone chooses the tune they like,” Dumbledore said amiably. “Ready, set, sing…”
The next moment, an incredibly noisy sound rang out in the lobby, with disordered tones and somewhat inappropriate lyrics combined together, like a demonic cacophony.
Aaron had an urge to cover his ears, but doing so in public was clearly inappropriate.
In a moment of desperation, Aaron lifted Abe onto his head, its two front paws openly covering its ears under its hat, while its two hind paws pressed down on Aaron's ears.
It is hidden and natural; you really can't find it unless you look closely.
Chapter 19 First Year's Tasks
After dinner, the Slytherin prefect led the new students to the basement. He pointed to a stone door in a damp stone wall and said, "This is the entrance to the common room. The password changes every two weeks."
This week's password is: Glory.
The stone door opened, and everyone entered the lounge one by one.
This is a semi-transparent lounge located at the bottom of the lake. The room has a fireplace, sofas and coffee tables in the center and along the walls, as well as several bookshelves.
The walls are made of black marble, and the ceiling is a transparent semicircle carved from crystal. Looking up, you can see shimmering waves, and through the windows you can see some giant octopuses or strange creatures, making it look like an underwater museum.
"The boys' dorms are on the left and the girls' dorms are on the right. Your suitcases have been delivered to your respective dorms."
If you have any questions, you can come to me or Headmaster Snape. We will not refuse to help if we can.
That's all for now, get some rest! You all have class early tomorrow morning!
The beds in the dormitory had been made up long ago, which made everyone feel much more relaxed, since they were indeed quite tired both physically and mentally after traveling all day.
In this situation, nothing is more appealing than falling asleep immediately.
Aaron opened his suitcase, took out a soft and cozy little bed, carefully placed Abe inside, and then covered it with a towel.
Then she changed into her pajamas and lay down on the bed.
As soon as he closed his eyes, he felt an overwhelming drowsiness, but then he suddenly remembered that he hadn't signed in today, so he quickly opened his eyes.
"System, sign in," Aaron silently said to himself.
"Congratulations, host, for checking in at Hogwarts. You have earned 10 magic points."
"How much?" Aaron was immediately wide awake. To be honest, he had expected the sign-in rewards at Hogwarts to be quite generous, but his expectation was only five magic points. However, he never imagined that the reward would double, and his efficiency would increase to five times the usual amount. This was truly a pleasant surprise.
"Host, you heard me right. It's ten magic points, a two-digit number."
In addition, Hogwarts has a special meaning in this world; the first sign-in unlocks the system's task function.
Completing the task will reward you with magic points and various magical items. Would you like to activate it?
"Open it, we must open it!" Aaron shouted in his heart, his emotions surging. Three years had passed, and finally he saw a path that would save him so many years of struggle. He couldn't possibly give up now!
"Okay, now I'm issuing the three system tasks for the host's first academic year."
[Help Slytherin win the House Cup;]
The reward for completing the task is 500 magic points; there is no penalty for failure. Do you accept this offer?
“Accept!” Aaron answered without hesitation. This task was nothing to him. Slytherin was synonymous with excellence at Hogwarts, having won the House Cup six times in a row. He might not even have to lift a finger for the seventh time; he could just lie down and collect the reward.
[Gain the approval of at least three professors;]
The reward for completing the task is 500 magic points; there is no penalty for failure. Do you accept this offer?
"accept!"
Aaron did not hesitate. There were quite a few professors at Hogwarts, and with his talent, it wouldn't be difficult for him to gain the approval of three professors.
Destroy Voldemort's remaining soul;
The reward for completing the task is 1000 magic points; failure will deduct 500 magic points. Do you accept this?
"Ah..." Aaron hesitated. It was true that Voldemort was very weak, but he was definitely not someone that a mere intermediate mage like him could handle. Even if he reached the level of an advanced mage, he might not be a match for him. Therefore, the possibility of failure was very high.
"System, can I ask someone for help with this task?"
"Yes, but the host must participate and contribute more than 50% of the effort; otherwise, the mission will be considered a failure."
“Alright! I accept.” Aaron said firmly. As the saying goes, ‘Fortune favors the bold.’ At worst, he could bring along two professors. He didn’t believe they couldn’t handle a mere remnant soul like him.
By the way, whose body is Voldemort's remnant soul currently attached to? I remember it being a professor, I think.
This is tricky. When choosing teammates, we also have to be careful to see if there's a traitor among them.
The next morning.
Aaron opened his eyes; he had slept exceptionally well last night.
Perhaps it was because the new check-in location gave him such a pleasant surprise, or perhaps it was because there was no alarm clock or Genes knocking on the door, that he slept until he woke up naturally.
After changing into his wizard's robes, Aaron looked at the sleeping baby dragon in the basket, thought for a moment, and then picked it up.
Although bringing pets to class is discouraged, this guy is a dragon after all!
Even though Abe looks harmless, he doesn't feel comfortable leaving it alone in the dormitory. What if it runs away?
"Aaron, you're awake?" Draco walked over with two dazed followers.
"I just woke up." Aaron nodded, then looked somewhat surprised. "Do you usually get up this early?"
"Barely!" Draco said smugly, then looked at the two fat men behind him with some anger, "These two guys are lazy, it took them ages to wake up."
"But Aaron, didn't your parents arrange any followers for you?"
Aaron paused for a moment, recalling the incessantly chattering butler and the groups of mages secretly following him, and a wry smile appeared on his lips. "Perhaps there are, but I don't want them to disturb my school life."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm sorry I can't explain this, but in short, the followers of our family may have a different understanding than you do."
Draco nodded as if he understood, though he was curious but wisely refrained from asking further questions.
The four of them left the dormitory together, first having breakfast at the cafeteria, and then heading to the classroom for their elective course with their textbooks.
It wasn't time for class yet, or perhaps they had arrived early, because there weren't many students in the classroom besides a cat on the teacher's desk.
Apart from the two Gryffindors, only the four Slytherins came.
Aaron and Draco sat at one table, while Crabbe and Goyle naturally took the seats behind them.
“Aaron.” Hermione pointed to Abbey, which Aaron had placed on the table, her expression a mixture of joy and worry. “Why did you bring it to the classroom?”
"I can't help it, this guy's a bit mischievous, and I don't feel comfortable leaving him in the dorm!" Aaron said. "I don't think the school has any rule against students bringing pets to class!"
"Well... okay! But it still feels a bit impolite."
"Thank you for your concern. I will explain to Professor McGonagall if necessary."
Abe is different; he's family, and he means a great deal to me and my entire family.
Seeing Aaron's seriousness, Hermione didn't say anything more and went back to reading her textbook.
After a moment's hesitation, Draco whispered to Aaron, "I had someone check yesterday, and Granger's parents are both Muggles."
"Well, so what?"
