Chapter 84, Part 083: The Mother Box (XI)
In Gotham, a city near the docks, a sudden explosion overturned the concrete, shattered the underground sewers, and caused a large amount of sewage to gush out. Fire hydrants also burst, and water sprayed like a fountain.
The entire deep space was shrouded in black smoke, like a thick black cloud.
The massive force of the explosion and the intense heat wave caused a dozen or so armed helicopters in the sky to sway violently and nearly flip over, but fortunately, the aircraft quickly stabilized.
However, the humanoid monsters closer to the explosion point fell one after another. Coupled with the machine gun fire from the armed helicopter, the ground was littered with the corpses of humanoid monsters. There were very few monsters left in the group, with only a few scattered ones fleeing away.
The chaotic Gotham City finally enjoyed a brief period of peace. Thick smoke filled the air, and the metal shell casings on the floor were still warm, with wisps of white smoke drifting through the air.
"General, it's all taken care of."
"Batman and his crew just disappeared; the armed helicopters didn't capture any footage of them."
Meanwhile, on a bridge not far from the battlefield, several armored vehicles and jeeps were parked, and a sergeant looked at the general standing next to him.
General Rodri did not answer, but instead kept his eyes fixed on a collapsed warehouse area through his binoculars.
The warehouses appeared to have been hit by a massive impact, collapsing completely and leaving visible cracks all over the surrounding ground, resembling the site of a meteorite impact.
"Those three are dead?"
Colonel Rhodes paused for a moment before speaking and pointing to the warehouse. Everyone around knew that the three he was referring to were the giant humanoid monsters that had previously resembled gorillas.
The sergeant nodded in affirmation, "We just sent people to scout, but they didn't find any signs of life."
"Who is that guy?"
General Rodri muttered to himself.
"Who?"
The sergeant was puzzled.
"I've never seen the guy who killed those three monsters."
General Rodri's face was grave. He was certain that he had never seen this guy in the news, and he had never been seen in the United States before.
After all, if such a powerful person were to actually appear, how could he not know? Even Green Lantern knew that this guy was from outer space because government agencies had previously participated in some of the Green Lantern Corps' operations.
"He might be a newcomer."
The sergeant paused for a moment before speaking.
"Perhaps we should recruit him; there's a plan to establish an American superhero alliance."
General Rodri muttered to himself, then stopped talking about the previous topic and turned to order his men to clean up the battlefield.
He then looked at some of the footage he had previously taken, which showed Rowe hammering three giant humanoid monsters and the other side cutting a group of humanoid monsters in half.
Another powerful superhero has appeared.
In a secluded forest on the outskirts of Gotham, a fierce wind swept through, causing the trees to sway violently. In the blink of an eye, four figures appeared in a clearing. One of them had streaks of golden electricity still clinging to his body. He stomped his shoes hard, sending up wisps of white smoke, the soles of his shoes radiating intense heat from the high-speed running.
Extremely hot.
"call"
Bruce Wayne gasped for breath. The high-speed journey had felt like a time machine ride, and he was still somewhat shaken. He braced himself on his knees to catch his breath before looking up at the person beside him and saying, "Thank you. Shit, who are you?!"
He looked up and was stunned, because the person standing next to him was not Luo Wei, but a stranger dressed entirely in red, including his helmet. He immediately moved a few steps back and pulled out a bat dart.
"call--"
Barry Allen, the Flash, took a deep breath and, seeing Batman pull out a dart, immediately spread his hands and said, "Mr. Batman, I mean no harm. I am the Flash."
"The Flash?"
Hal Jordan listened, frowned and thought carefully, then suddenly laughed and said, "Ah, I remember now, you're the guy who claims to be the fastest in the world. I've seen your news interviews."
"Are you the Flash?"
Bruce Wayne remembered that there was indeed such a person, but he remained vigilant and glanced at Rowe.
"Don't worry, he's not in danger, and he's a good teammate. You can choose to trust him."
Lowe began to explain, while also feeling somewhat surprised, not expecting his first meeting with the Flash to be so sudden.
He then extended his hand to Barry Allen in a friendly manner, saying, "He's Batman, and this green-clad guy is Green Lantern. You can just call me Mystic for now."
"Hello."
Barry Allen gave a rambling explanation, making gestures with his hands from time to time, saying, "Sorry, the situation was a bit urgent just now. I had no choice but to try to take Batman away from you. Mainly, you know that missile was about to explode, and I just wanted to get Batman away as quickly as possible."
"fine."
Luo Wei waved his hand.
"This is the first time I've met another superhero, and I've heard so many stories about the Dark Knight. Batman, you are a living legend."
Barry Allen, still unable to contain his excitement as he looked at the living Batman standing before him, rubbed his hands together and said with a smile.
He then looked at Luo Wei, his face full of surprise: "You are the fastest person I have ever seen, besides me, of course."
Hal Jordan, who was standing next to him, was eagerly waiting for the Flash to praise him after he finished praising the first two. However, he saw the Flash glance at him, hesitate for a long time, and then not say anything.
"Alright, young man, we don't have time to listen to your nonsense."
Bruce interrupted The Flash, turned to Rowe, and asked, "Do you know where the Humanoid Demon's lair is?"
"Yes, I've been listening to it the whole time; their disgusting growls are echoing in my ears."
Luo Wei pointed to his ear. He had tracked the humanoid demon that stole the Mother Box from the very beginning and followed it all the way to its lair. He even figured out the general layout of the humanoid demon's lair. He vaguely heard the cries of hostages, but unfortunately, the lair had special equipment from Apokolips that affected his super hearing. However, he was certain that the humanoid demon seemed to have taken some hostages and was preparing to do something.
After all, the humanoid demons knew that their leader, Steppenwolf, was imprisoned. If they just sat there and waited to die, they would be doomed. Now, they would most likely launch a counterattack. They couldn't wait for Apokolips' support. That place was countless light-years away from Earth. Otherwise, Steppenwolf wouldn't have wanted to open the sonic boom channel to establish communication between Earth and Apokolips.
"You have very good hearing?"
Barry Allen was curious. He spoke very quickly, just like his superpower. Before anyone could answer, he continued, "Should we learn about each other's superpowers? That would make things easier in battle."
Barry Allen has almost complete trust in Batman because the other is Gotham City's famous superhero, the Dark Knight, a true hero who has protected Gotham for over a decade, made headlines countless times, and is a prominent figure.
But he was unaware that Batman, Green Lantern, and the stranger Lowe possessed superpowers. Newspapers rarely elaborated on the abilities of superheroes, usually just mentioning them briefly.
"Sorry, Flash, let's get down to business first. I'll save my self-introduction for the celebration party."
Lowe patted him on the shoulder, signaling Hal Jordan to conjure a fighter jet and head towards the location of the lair.
"Hey, wait for me! What are we going to do? Save the world, fight aliens! Were those monsters that appeared in Gotham City aliens?"
Barry Allen, his eyes wide with amazement, watched the three board a fighter jet that appeared out of thin air. He looked at Green Lantern and said, "Your superpower is doing whatever you want?"
[PS: I'll post one chapter this morning, and there will be another update tonight. Happy Dragon Boat Festival to everyone! Wishing you all good fortune and good health!]
Chapter 85, Section 84: The Mother Box (Part 12)
In a sparsely populated desert in the United States, the area was shrouded in dark clouds. Not long ago, a towering structure resembling a volcano, filled with lava, rose from the desert, emitting a red glow that almost covered the entire sky nearby.
The dense, blood-red clouds and intense heat filled the air, permeating the space. The desert soil turned scorched and burning hot, immersing everything in a suffocating atmosphere, like a living hell.
"Is this hell?"
Four figures appeared on the mountain not far from the nest.
Lowe stood at the edge of the mountain, listening to Barry Allen's mutterings, and said in a deep voice, "That's the Apokolips' lair."
"How long has their hideout been here? Why hasn't the government taken any action? They should have discovered this much trouble long ago."
Bruce Wayne frowned and said unhappily, glancing at the scorched earth. He quickly noticed some scattered houses near the lair. "There's a small town right next to the lair!"
"The crying I just heard must have come from the town."
Luo Wei also noticed that in the town next to the nest, in the scattered houses, he could vaguely see figures huddled in the corners.
He went on to explain, "The Apokolips used some means to block the signal, and I think that's why they didn't get detected by the government."
"Okay, what should we do now? Rescue the hostages first?"
Barry Allen was eager to try, rubbing his hands together, ready to charge out. It was his first time working with a superhero, and he couldn't wait to show off.
"You can handle the rescue tasks; I'll go retrieve the mother box."
After saying this, Lowe immediately took off and flew towards the humanoid monster's lair that soared into the sky, leaving Bruce and the other two to deal with the hostage situation.
Hey, do you guys have any plans?
Barry Allen asked Batman, then looked at Hal Jordan, who was removing his light ring and inserting it into a portable device. He asked in bewilderment, "What are you doing?"
"Charge."
Hal Jordan slowly replied that the energy of the lamp ring was not unlimited and needed to be recharged periodically to prevent a "power outage" during combat.
"Let's go rescue people first, follow me."
Bruce waved and leaped toward the town, his outstretched wings allowing him to glide with the wind toward the town.
Now, he had to rescue all the hostages before Rowe caused the humanoids to riot. Based on his previous experiences, he knew that the humanoids were not unintelligent and that they were fully capable of taking hostages. However, Rowe had explained before he arrived that the humanoid army, having lost its leader, the Wasteland Wolves, was not a significant threat overall. They were leaderless and disorganized, and were prone to infighting. Destroying their lair would essentially cut off their escape route.
bang——
As they pondered, an explosion occurred high up in the nest ahead, sending a dozen or so humanoid figures flying like cannonballs, smashing through the thick rock walls. The nest, which had been like a tower, broke off at one end, scattering rock fragments everywhere.
The sudden commotion also startled the dormant humanoids in the nest, and for a moment...
From the once peaceful lair, hordes of humanoid demons surged forth, densely gathering in the sky.
"Looks like that guy is a tough one."
Below, Barry Allen, running, saw the collapsed nest and his eyes showed a mixture of amazement and excitement. Having a powerful teammate always makes one feel excited.
Whoosh——
Thinking this, he transformed into lightning and ran towards the town. Several streaks of electricity swept across the houses, and in the blink of an eye, he had brought several survivors to safety.
to the opposite.
At this very moment, inside the lair, a lurking figure heard the explosion above and the constant roars and flapping of wings of the rampaging humanoid demons. Her brows furrowed, revealing a hint of displeasure and anger, and she subconsciously tightened her grip on her shield and longsword.
She then continued walking toward the location where the mother box was stored. Humanoid demons flew overhead from time to time, but none of them noticed the woman lurking below.
"Roar--"
Above the lair, hundreds and thousands of humanoid demons roared, their scarlet eyes filled with rage, as they pounced on Rowe in the sky. Faced with an enemy that had come to their doorstep, they had completely lost their minds, and some were even willing to detonate their bodies as bombs, trying to tear Rowe apart.
Unfortunately, the repeated self-destructions failed to harm Lowe in the slightest; instead, the nest was blasted to pieces and gradually crumbled and fell off.
