"I told you, Wang Zikai has been having a lot of bad luck lately. This is the second time this month that he's encountered something like this. I reckon his dad will ground him for a while."
Luo Wei looked at the scenery of the streets outside in the early morning. Most of the yellow leaves on the roadside trees had fallen, and a gust of wind would scatter them. There were very few sanitation workers in the old town, so when you stood in the middle of the street in the early morning, both sides were covered with golden leaves.
"Why didn't you go last night? Aren't you two always inseparable?"
Hua Xin asked casually, as if she had mentioned the question unintentionally.
"I didn't go yesterday because I didn't finish my homework. Besides, a lot of people go to haunted houses these days, so it's not fun when there are too many people. It's more exciting to stay at home and watch horror movies."
Luo Wei answered as if it were just a casual remark.
"You really stayed home last night? You didn't go anywhere?"
As the car approached the traffic lights at the intersection, Hua Xin turned her head, her dark, deep eyes looking at Luo Wei, a slight, ambiguous smile playing on her lips.
"Sister Xiaohua, did my parents send you to check up on me? If so, please tell them I was really home last night and that they shouldn't worry."
Rowe explained.
"No, I'm just concerned about you. Green Vine City has been unsettled lately, especially the old town. There have been two major cases this month. You'd better stay home at night and not go out."
Hua Xin shook her head, looked away, and focused on driving without saying anything more.
A moment later, the car drove into the police station parking lot. It was the weekend, and there were many people there to run errands. The parking lot was full of vehicles from outside the station, but fortunately, there were designated parking spaces for government personnel.
After parking the car, she opened the door and got out: "Let's go, Captain Liang is waiting for us on the second floor."
"Ah."
Luo Wei followed, glancing at the woman's back from time to time, wondering if she was plotting something again, whether she simply wanted to talk to him and ask him something, or if she had other plans.
He prefers the latter, because questioning can be conducted at home. The criminal investigation team is very busy all day long, and unless there are special circumstances or the person being questioned is a suspect, it is impossible to bring them back to the station for questioning. Doing so would be time-consuming and laborious.
"Wait in the lounge for a bit, I'll call you in a bit."
Hua Xin led him to the lounge, then turned around, poured a cup of hot water, and handed it to Luo Wei, saying, "Be careful, it's a little hot. Take it and drink it slowly."
"Sister Xiaohua, stop hiding it from me and just tell me what you want to do."
Luo Wei put down his cup and asked.
"I didn't expect you to be so smart."
Hua Xin's lips curved into a slight smile as she said, "Actually, there's another reason I called you here. We need to draw some blood for testing. After that, you'll have to wait here for three hours. But don't worry, you won't be the only one this time."
As they were talking, several more people were brought in from outside. They were all similar in height and build to Luo Wei, and they all looked somewhat familiar.
Luo Wei scrutinized the faces of the group, thought carefully for a moment, and suddenly remembered that all of them had appeared at the scene of the previous bombing. With that in mind, he guessed Hua Xin's purpose in seeking him out. The woman intended to use DNA testing to determine Superman's true identity, but Luo Wei was absolutely certain that he had never revealed any "correct" DNA information.
But after he finished looking at the people who had just come in, he saw Hua Xin's stunningly beautiful face come into view. She was looking at him, and her eyes seemed to reveal full confidence.
"Little Wei, what's wrong?"
Hua Xin asked the question knowing the answer already.
"It's okay. When do we start the blood draw? I haven't had breakfast and I'm afraid I won't be able to handle it."
Luo Wei said, "How about I go get something to eat first and then come back?"
"Don't worry, I've prepared everything. Here's milk and bread."
Hua Xin smiled again, seemingly satisfied with Luo Wei's reaction. She took out a bag of bread and milk from her bag, leaned slightly forward to hand it to him, and patted his cheek, saying, "Eat more later."
After saying that, she turned and left.
Only Luo Wei and a few others were left in the lounge. He could clearly feel the envy in the eyes of the people around him, because the bread and milk had been given to him alone.
However, Luo Wei didn't pay any attention to these things. He wasn't hungry, and drawing such a small amount of blood wouldn't affect him. He was just wondering if Hua Xin had really discovered something.
"Xiao Wang, keep the surveillance cameras focused on everyone. If anyone leaves the break room, remember to report it."
Hua Xin left the lounge and rushed to the monitoring room. There were several screens there, all displaying images of everyone in the lounge. If anyone made any unusual moves, the staff would immediately sound an alarm.
She added another one
He pointed at Luo Wei and said, "Especially him, don't move the camera away."
"Ah."
Xiao Wang nodded.
"Uncle Liang, you can let them in to draw blood now."
Hua Xin pressed the communicator and spoke. The other end replied with "Mm." A moment later, several forensic doctors walked into the surveillance footage and began drawing blood from the people in the break room. The first few people showed no abnormalities, but when it came to Luo Wei, he hesitated and pulled his hand back. This subtle movement might have escaped the eyes of an ordinary person, but it could not escape Hua Xin's eyes. She saw everything and only looked away from the screen after confirming that there were no problems with Luo Wei's blood draw.
"Xiao Hua, can it really detect anything?"
Xiao Wang asked.
"Now, DNA technology can successfully compare even a tiny bit of skin tissue, let alone all that liquid residue that Superman had on his cup yesterday."
Hua Xin answered affirmatively that she had gathered Luo Wei and so many other people to compare the DNA left by Superman last night. As long as the comparison values met the standard, Superman's identity could be confirmed.
“But none of the people in the lounge look like Superman, especially Rowe, who is only sixteen or seventeen. How could he possibly do something so brutal?”
Xiao Wang said.
Hua Xin didn't answer, but slowly said, "Keep an eye on things, I'm going to the forensic doctor's office."
The lounge was quiet, with only the occasional crisp sound of someone pressing a button on their phone. Most people were either dozing off or staring blankly at the wall.
"The test results still aren't out? Damn it, this is such a waste of my time!"
Finally, someone couldn't help but complain.
"Stop complaining. It's an honor that someone doubts you're Superman."
A person next to him laughed.
"The problem is I'm not Superman. If I were Superman, ha, let me tell you, that woman who just came in would have been... cough cough cough."
The speaker was a burly man with a muscular physique that suggested he worked out regularly. He had a gold tooth embedded in his teeth, and his eyes sometimes looked lewd and sometimes fierce.
"What nonsense are you talking about? The female officer will be the first to handcuff you in a minute."
The person next to him also chimed in with a few words here and there.
"I'm not afraid of her. I can't break the law. How can she handcuff me? Right here on this bed?"
The burly man grinned and said.
Bang
Suddenly the door opened, and Liang Zhongping and Hua Xin walked in with several people. Perhaps they opened the door too forcefully, because the door slammed against the wall with a loud "bang," startling the burly man who had been spewing profanities. He immediately shrank back into his chair, too afraid to utter a sound.
The person who had spoken up next to him chuckled dismissively, muttered "coward," and then asked, "Sir, when can we get out?"
"Zhang Ji, right? This is none of your business. Go back."
Liang Zhongping glanced at the test results on the report, then pulled out the next report and pointed at several people in succession: "You, you, and you, all of you, get out."
"Goodbye, sir."
Suddenly, the lounge was almost empty, leaving only two people on the chairs: Luo Wei and the burly man who was working out.
"Sir, you don't actually suspect I'm Superman, do you?"
The burly man grew anxious as no one called him to leave.
"You're not Superman, Xiao Wang, handcuff him. A wanted fugitive can be this calm? I'm a boss now."
See you next time.
As soon as Liang Zhongping spoke, the police officers who had followed him in rushed forward, pinned the burly man down, and without saying a word, pulled out handcuffs and locked them all up. They dragged him out of the break room, giving the burly man no chance to resist.
"Uncle Liang, what about me?"
Finally, only Luo Wei was left, and he spoke up.
Upon hearing this, Liang Zhongping glanced at the report and said, "You're fine, go home first. We made a mistake and wasted everyone's time."
"Is it really okay?"
With his superhuman vision, Lowe could clearly see the contents of the report and discovered that the test results were completely inconsistent, proving that he was not Superman.
Seeing this, he couldn't help but raise an eyebrow and look at Hua Xin, who had been silent all along. The woman was in a low mood and was leaning against the wall with her arms crossed, lost in thought.
"What, you think you can be Superman?"
Liang Zhongping patted his shoulder with a smile and nodded in approval: "Being a superhero is fine too. If you get into a police academy or something in the future, come to the police station. Everyone here is fighting for the people and eliminating evil. It's also a gathering place for superheroes."
"Captain, why do you always try to trick people into taking the police academy entrance exam?"
Xiao Wang was speechless.
"What do you know? Xiao Wei is exceptionally talented. His criminal investigation skills are no worse than yours, and his physical abilities are no worse than yours either. If it weren't for his age, you wouldn't be my apprentice; Xiao Wei would be."
Liang Zhongping said irritably that he was extremely disappointed in his apprentice, Xiao Wang. As a renowned criminal investigator in northern Green Vine City, he had actually produced a good-for-nothing.
"Uncle Liang, please stop jinxing me."
Luo Wei didn't expect Liang Zhongping to have such a nice personality. However, when he was with Liang Zhongping as Superman, he was a completely different person. Sometimes, his legs and hands would shake uncontrollably, as if he had Parkinson's disease.
"Alright, let's not talk about that anymore. Xiaohua, aren't you on holiday today? Why don't you take Xiaowei home and get some rest yourself? You haven't had much rest lately, leaving early and coming home late."
Liang Zhongping looked at Hua Xin and found her leaning against the wall in a daze. He called out again, "Xiao Hua?"
"Hmm? Oh, okay, I'll take him."
Hua Xin came to her senses and replied.
"Thank you for your help, Sister Xiaohua."
Luo Wei looked slightly apologetic.
"fine."
Hua Xin stared at him for a long time before nodding in response.
Luo Wei got into Hua Xin's car to go home. On the way, Hua Xin remained silent, glancing at Luo Wei in the passenger seat from time to time with a look of doubt and skepticism. She seemed to want to say something, but held back.
"Sister Xiaohua, is there something you want to tell me?"
Luo Wei, too lazy to beat around the bush, asked directly.
"No."
Hua Xin shook her head, then stopped the car at the entrance of the community and said coldly, "We're here. Get out of the car. I won't see you in."
