Kogoro Mouri sat on the sofa, head bowed, trying to sober up.
Ran Mouri starts cooking in the kitchen.
Yusuke Suzuki reads detective novels with Conan.
After the meal, he took his leave.
Today's meal included a lot of rice from the teacher's house; they cooked two pots of rice.
the next day.
Kotengu Mountain.
The entire mountain was shrouded in a hazy mist, quiet and peaceful, with wisps of fresh air filling my nostrils.
Next to Suzuki Yusuke, Mori Kogoro stretched and yawned, still feeling the effects of the alcohol.
"Yusuke-nii, why did you decide to change your style of dress today?"
Ran Mouri finally asked the question, and Conan nodded in agreement.
They were all used to Yusuke Suzuki always wearing all black, so it was a bit strange to see him suddenly in red hiking gear today.
Yusuke Suzuki looked down at Ai Haibara. There was nothing he could do; his wife had ordered the clothes.
The two are clearly a couple, but yesterday when I took Ai Haibara to buy hiking gear, she insisted on buying matching parent-child outfits.
"It was my choice, so it's nice to let him change his style once in a while."
Ai Haibara tugged at her backpack strap. "But there are far too few people here, aren't there?"
“Yes, yes,” the muddle-headed detective said, his eyes losing their sparkle. “There’s not a soul in sight, and certainly no pretty girls to see.”
Upon hearing this, Ran Mouri and Conan exchanged a smile.
Without the excuse of seeing beautiful women, how could you possibly sway Kogoro Mouri, who only wants to sleep?
Ran Mouri feigned nonchalance, "That's strange, the travel guide clearly says this place is very popular with female college students now."
"Seriously, that travel guide is probably a load of rubbish."
Chapter 288 Mountain Climbing
"Seriously, that travel guide is probably a load of rubbish," Kogoro Mori muttered before heading towards the mountain steps.
Yusuke Suzuki tightened his hiking backpack, looked down at Ai, and asked, "Shall we go?"
Before the group had taken more than a few steps, two people emerged from a wooden house not far away; they appeared to be the caretaker.
"Hirai, wait a moment."
"what happened again?"
"The location there is very special, so you need to be extra careful while you're working there."
"Yes, otherwise it would be terrible if something else happened. I think you'd be more than happy if something happened to me, right?"
The conversation between the two really caught Suzuki Yusuke off guard.
We've only been out of the car for less than two minutes, and the case is already coming up?
Isn't this a bit too fast? We could have played for a while before.
The group watched as the administrator named Hirai climbed the steps up the mountain, their expressions somewhat unnatural.
Seeing this, Kondo Eiichiro took the initiative to speak to you, "Good morning, you five. Be careful because some of the handrails at the observation deck are broken."
"Ah... okay, we understand." Kogoro Mouri still felt awkward and gave a forced reply.
At this moment, Ai Haibara tugged at Yusuke Suzuki's sleeve, not asking directly, but inquiring with her eyes.
Is another case about to occur?
Yusuke Suzuki silently shook his head. "I'm not sure."
"What's uncertain?"
Conan turned around blankly, but Suzuki Yusuke's mouth was already closed, and he and Haibara Ai were looking at him with puzzled eyes.
"Yusuke-nii...did you just speak?"
Yusuke Suzuki shook his head again. "No."
Conan looked at Ai Haibara, and the little girl looked at him intently as well.
Okay, so it seems like this means 'no'.
Could I have been hallucinating?
Conan slowly turned his head, sensing that something was amiss.
The Mori father and daughter standing in front were still feeling awkward, but fortunately Kondo Eiichiro quickly returned to the cabin.
The group continued their journey.
It was early morning, and the air was damp and cold. Because the humidity was too high, it was difficult for sweat to evaporate, and the visibility was not very good either. So, at the beginning of the climb, everyone was climbing slowly.
Even so, Kogoro Mouri was still panting heavily and asked to rest.
Ai Haibara took a clean towel out of her backpack and wiped the sweat from her forehead. The mist had dampened her hair, so she wiped that as well.
Yusuke Suzuki, on the other hand, started eating snacks.
For him, climbing a mountain is a simple matter.
After a few minutes of rest, the journey continued.
Then Kogoro Mouri asked to rest again.
"Ai, do you want some?" Suzuki Yusuke handed the little girl an energy bar.
"No need..." Ai Haibara breathed a sigh of relief, took out the water she had prepared and took a small sip, while observing Kogoro Mouri.
The bumbling detective's physical performance this time was even worse than hers.
"Hey Yusuke, why are you acting like nothing's wrong?" Kogoro Mouri, hands on his knees, was completely baffled by his disciple's behavior.
“Teacher, isn’t Ran about the same?” Suzuki Yusuke pointed at Mouri Ran. “I think you should exercise more often.”
“Yes, yes, Yusuke is absolutely right,” Ran Mori said, taking the opportunity to lecture him. “Dad, when you go back this time, you have to quit drinking and exercise every day.”
Of course, Kogoro Mouri completely ignored this sentence and pretended not to hear it.
Yusuke Suzuki estimated the time and helped his teacher up, "Let's keep going, we've only climbed less than halfway."
And so, Kogoro Mori set off, wailing and howling like a banshee.
To prevent Kogoro Mouri from sneaking down the mountain halfway, Ran Mouri and Conan led the way, while Yusuke Suzuki and Ai Haibara brought up the rear.
The bumbling detective is caught in the middle with nowhere to escape.
This time, the bumbling detective persisted for much longer. The fog that had been lingering in the mountains had dissipated, and the sky above the forest was much clearer, allowing the sunlight to shine through.
"Take a break..."
"Taking a break again?" Ran Mouri turned around speechlessly.
Conan, without batting an eye, asked without breaking a sweat, "Didn't we just rest?"
"It's so noisy! What does it matter? It's not like we're rushing to meet any deadlines."
"I think it's because Uncle's physical strength can't handle it."
Upon hearing this, Kogoro Mouri immediately wanted to use his signature move to beat Conan up, but right now his whole body felt like it was filled with lead, and only his mouth could move.
He retorted, "What nonsense! I've just been working too much lately!"
No one could possibly believe that.
It's quite convincing to say that his body was hollowed out by alcohol and sex.
Yusuke Suzuki stepped forward and helped his teacher up, saying, "Teacher, hang in there a little longer, we'll be there soon."
Even Ai Haibara came over and offered some words of encouragement.
Conan decided to deliver the final blow. "Ran-neechan, I think we should ignore Uncle and climb up first?"
"Alright."
After saying that, Ran Mouri and Conan turned and left.
Now that we've climbed to this point, there's no need to worry about the bumbling detective going down the mountain again.
"Teacher, if you really don't want to move, you can rest here for a while. Ai and I will go first."
"Hey, Yusuke, why are you leaving me too..."
Kogoro Mori unleashed his potential and started walking to catch up, but he quickly slowed down and was left behind.
The four of them have now reached a tacit understanding and none of them have stopped.
"Sister Xiaolan, we're almost there!"
Conan pointed ahead, where the view was noticeably wider.
The group quickened their pace and soon reached the end of the stairs.
"The scenery is so beautiful!" Ran Mouri exclaimed happily as she looked around.
Ai Haibara wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand. "Looks like this is the lookout tower."
“Hmm,” Yusuke Suzuki pointed in a direction, “Look over there.”
"Is that the uncle from earlier?" Conan looked over. "He seems to be repairing the fence."
Just then, behind them, Kogoro Mori grumbled, "Finally made it to the top..."
Ran Mouri praised her, saying, "Thank you for your hard work."
No sooner had he finished speaking than the maintenance worker, who was repairing the handrail, lost his footing and fell, his terrified screams echoing around him.
"It fell, it fell down..."
The Mori family looked completely bewildered, while Ai Haibara secretly sized up Yusuke Suzuki.
Saying you're not sure... that's not honest at all.
