Chapter 34 Fighting for Pride

Liu Yifei discovered that Qin Xuan was not as superficial as she initially thought, but rather a person with a story and depth.

He used his own story to comfort her, which showed his sincerity.

At night, Liu Yifei lay alone in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, her mind replaying the story Qin Xuan had told her during the day.

This story helped her understand many things.

No one could help her; she had to face all the difficulties herself. The previous generation did everything they could for her, paving the way for her to enter the entertainment industry and act.

From now on, she will have to face it all on her own; whether to persevere or give up is her own decision.

No one can make the decision for her anymore. Her mother can only be a person to discuss things with, but she can't walk the next path for her. After all, she is an adult and should have her own opinions.

Thinking of this, she picked up her phone from the bedside table and sent Qin Xuan a text message: "Keep going on your own path, and you'll eventually reap the rewards. Keep going! Keep going!"

You can't send emoticons in text messages now. If you could, I bet she would have sent one.

Qin Xuan, who was about to wrap up filming, held his phone and smiled when he saw the text message. This was the first time Liu Yifei had ever texted him.

They rarely talk on the phone, only when there's something important to discuss.

"That's a wrap! Go back and get some rest. Cheer up and keep working tomorrow!" Qin Xuan shouted from the set.

Every day he would shout, urging everyone to finish work quickly.

"Old Zhang, what are you still doing? Hurry up and put the camera away and go back. Don't do any more work," Qin Xuan shouted.

“I’ll just remove the memory and keep nagging about it every day,” Zhang Linke said.

"Exactly, we only work eight hours a day, and when we get home we don't know what to do."

"In other film crews, I'm treated like a beast of burden, but here I feel like a human being."

As the crew packed up the equipment, they chatted amongst themselves, their laughter filling the air.

"That's in another film crew. In my film crew, you can only work eight hours a day. Hurry up and finish packing up and go back. Just leave one person here on duty," Qin Xuan instructed.

They left someone behind in case thieves stole their things.

Actually, it's called eight hours, but it doesn't mean we actually worked for eight hours; it just means we filmed for eight hours.

The time spent on makeup and set design in the early stages of filming is not counted, but the content they shoot is in a single scene, so there is no need for much set design. As soon as the actors are made up, filming can begin, so many people don't notice it.

It's impossible to implement a true eight-hour workday for filming. How can you expect actors to spend hours getting ready, everyone to wait for you for hours, and then finally start filming and you're off work?

That's how Hollywood works; they calculate it as eight hours based on the start time of filming.

Even so, it's still better than many film crews.

As the film crew gradually finished get off work, Qin Xuan and Shen Ao continued working in a room with the footage they had already shot.

After each day's shooting, you need to organize the footage from that day, plan what to shoot the next day, and issue shooting notices; otherwise, things won't go so smoothly.

"President Xuan, you only let us work eight hours a day, but you work all night long every day. Why is that?" Shen Ao was very puzzled.

While everyone else had gone home, General Manager Xuan continued working, quietly moving forward.

"What brought us together was a belief. If I lose that belief, then we will fall apart," Qin Xuan explained.

When he founded New Force, he promised not to treat them like beasts of burden. If he treats them like beasts of burden, people will say he has forgotten his original intention, and the team will be difficult to lead.

Shen Ao remained silent, surprised that President Xuan still remembered what he had said back then. In fact, they had forgotten many of these things and hadn't taken them seriously. "President Xuan, if you succeed this time, I'll work for you for life, just because of your belief." Shen Ao put his hand on his shoulder, deeply impressed.

"Then you'd better be prepared to work long-term," Qin Xuan said with a smile.

Shen Ao smiled, then said worriedly, "There's been a lot of discussion in the crew, actually even before filming started, about whether our movie will be released in theaters or sold to someone. If it's released in theaters, I doubt anyone will distribute it to us right now."

"What are you thinking?" Qin Xuan asked, wanting to hear what they were discussing.

“If we want to get it released in theaters, I think we should go to the south, like the Shanghai Theatre Academy. They have less cooperation with the Beijing film industry, so there will be fewer disagreements,” Shen Ao suggested.

"No." Qin Xuan shook his head.

"What?" Shen Ao asked, puzzled.

"You'll find out later." Qin Xuan couldn't give away any spoilers.

Although the Shanghai Theatre Academy is now very prestigious and can rival China Film Group, unfortunately, they released "Lust, Caution" this year, which angered a certain bigwig.

In the following years, the Shanghai Theatre Academy went quiet.

So it wasn't just Tang Wei who was unlucky in this situation. She was nothing compared to the Shanghai Theatre Academy, which reshuffled the entire organization. From then on, no one dared to fund Li's film projects anymore. He could only go to the United States to develop his career and try to get into the Golden Horse Awards. He wasn't even invited to the symposiums here.

This guy was just too awesome; he went on a killing spree in the later "Life of Pi".

Shen Ao tried asking, "Then we won't release it in theaters?"

"It's definitely going to be shown in theaters. If it's not shown in theaters, then there's no point in making this movie. Even if it makes money, it's meaningless. We make movies to show people that we can do it, to prove ourselves, you understand?" Qin Xuan said.

"Understood!" Shen Ao nodded emphatically.

Actually, they all prefer theatrical releases, otherwise they'll be looked down upon. They're inherently passionate when making movies.

Being blacklisted is something no one can stand.

"As for who you're worried about for distribution, I'll take care of that. Our current problem is getting the film into post-production. Do you have any classmates or friends who work in post-production studios?" Qin Xuan had already decided who to distribute the film.

I'm not sure if I can persuade them, so I'll hold off for now. If I succeed, I'll talk about it again; if not, I'll pretend it never happened to avoid discouraging them.

Filming for "Nightclub" is now mostly complete and will be finished soon; it's time to start thinking about post-production.

“Yes, a few senior students from Beijing Film Academy used to run a small studio together, but they made music videos and commercials,” Shen Ao said.

"It doesn't matter, as long as I can do post-production editing." Qin Xuan didn't mind.

What he needs is equipment and professionals.

Time flies. Filming for "Nightclub" was completed on October 17th, with a shooting period of exactly 20 days. Immediately afterwards, filming for the second film, "Make a Name for Yourself," began.

The set construction for this movie will take some time. We'll start setting up the set in another factory. We won't dismantle the set for "Nightclub" yet, as that would waste time and we don't know if there's any content left that needs to be reshot. If so, we'll reshoot it.

Anyway, Shougang has a large area, and it's all open space.

Taking advantage of the break, Qin Xuan and Shen Ao went to a post-production editing studio and began their post-production editing work.

The studio was small, with only a few people. It was their first time editing a movie, but the principles were the same and there wasn't much difference.

I won't go into too much detail about the movie's plot, as I haven't actually seen it myself, only read the narration and cast list, so I won't embarrass myself by offering my own opinion.

In addition, the male protagonist's rise to power is synchronized with the female protagonist's crisis. When the female protagonist's crisis manifests, the male protagonist will also draw his sword and kill indiscriminately. Don't rush it.

(I don't have any drafts saved up. My mother is hospitalized and I need to take care of her every day, so I don't have time to work on saving drafts.)
