Mysterious Resurrection: What If
Chapter 71 First Battle
Chapter 71 First Battle (Part 6)
The priest looked at the body bag in Li Jun's hand and continued, "The child in your hand is a man with a tragic fate. He was blinded by the King's organization. I want to take his body back and give him a proper burial."
Upon hearing this, Liu San walked to the corpse on the ground, squatted down, and carefully examined it. The surface of the corpse was covered with a faint black shadow, indicating that the person inside was definitely dead.
He pulled out the blood-red dagger and slashed his finger, instantly cutting the paper finger in two.
He stood up and nodded to everyone: "That's right, it's the assassin's body."
He then added, "It has been suppressed very thoroughly, and there are no signs of recovery in the short term."
With a scarlet ghost eye on his forehead staring at the priest, Yang Jian coldly said, "You seem to be a little out of the loop."
"In this situation, you suddenly appear, say a lot of irrelevant things, and then try to take away that person's body. Isn't that a bit too naive?"
With the machete in his hand slightly raised, Yang Jian intended to make his move right there and kill the priest in front of him. Under such high pressure, apart from the few captains who had been following him from headquarters, Yang Jian did not trust anyone else.
"Wait, Yang Jian!" Li Jun immediately stopped Yang Jian when he saw him preparing to make a move.
“Give him the body. This person is definitely not a member of the King’s Organization. I will take responsibility if anything goes wrong.”
Just as Li Jun was about to throw the body bag over, a crimson flash appeared. In his vision, a headless black shadow suddenly pounced. By the time he reacted, he was already being lifted into the air by Yang Jian, with no chance to resist.
His neck was tightly gripped by the ghostly hand, and the vengeful spirit inside him did not react at all. Before him was Yang Jian's lifeless face.
Yang Jian coldly said, "Under these circumstances, handing over the corpse of a member of the King's Organization, I doubt you're really brainless. You want to take responsibility? What ability do you have to bear this responsibility?"
"Believe it or not, I can kill you in a second if I want to."
"I agree with Yang Jian's statement."
Shen Lin, standing to the side, looked at Yang Jian. Even he hadn't reacted in time; Yang Jian's speed was too fast. He continued, "..."
“Li Jun, regardless of whether headquarters has cooperated with this person before, we should not easily trust anyone in the current situation. Moreover, what he wants is the body of a core member of the King Organization. We are on a mission and cannot afford any mistakes.”
A figure moved among the collapsed buildings around them, gradually approaching the priest. It was Liu San's paper figure, and he clearly did not believe the priest's words either.
Seeing that the situation was spiraling out of control, Wang Chaling immediately advised, "Yang Jian, calm down."
“You did nothing wrong, but now is not the time for infighting. Put Li Jun down first.”
Yang Jian did not give up. When it comes to the supernatural, he always keeps his word. He will not allow anyone to hold him back in such a high-level supernatural event. If anyone does, he will personally eliminate such an unstable factor.
The ghostly hand had already gripped Li Jun's neck, and blood dripped down his arm to the ground, only to be instantly evaporated by the intense heat.
Seeing that he couldn't persuade Yang Jian, Wang Chaling turned to the priest and said, "It seems that there has been some contact between headquarters and you. In that case, the body will be taken back to headquarters after this is over, and you can retrieve it yourself."
“No problem.” The priest surprisingly agreed readily. Then he gave a deep look at one of the people in the group, and then turned and walked into the white light.
"I'm giving this body to you as a way of showing that I meant you no harm."
After he finished speaking, his figure vanished from the spot with the white light, and the feeling of being stared at by countless eyes disappeared from everyone's minds.
Yang Jian stared at the spot where the priest had disappeared, a strange glint in his eyes. Following the priest's last gaze, Yang Jian looked at the crowd. That person was Li Leping. He hadn't spoken since the priest appeared. Yang Jian subconsciously ignored Li Leping, but the priest had noticed him, a person who could be forgotten at any moment.
The priest's behavior before and after was too contradictory. At first, he asked to exchange the bodies of the King's organization members, but then he readily agreed to Wang Chaling's plan. His real purpose in coming here did not seem to be as simple as just exchanging bodies.
It was as if the priest had come here only to confirm Li Leping's existence.
Yang Jian casually tossed Li Jun aside and said coldly, "I will only allow that kind of situation to happen once. If it happens again, I will kill you immediately and continue leading the way."
Li Jun remained silent. As a soldier, he knew this was not the time for infighting. Even if there were some hidden reasons behind his actions earlier, this was not the place for idle chatter. He took out the spoon that had been guiding the way again and led everyone to continue moving forward.
"Dead?"
"That's right, they were almost instantly killed."
The pitch-black manor was shrouded in eerie light and shadow, and the distorted vision made it seem as if the entire manor did not exist in reality.
The air was thick with the stench of corpses, and withered bushes surrounded the eerie building. Occasionally, a few blurry figures could be seen emerging from the darkness.
Several strange figures were sitting or standing in the manor's main hall.
In the center of the hall stood an old piano, and a phantom figure sat there, gently pressing the keys, producing eerie piano sounds.
"I've said it before, don't underestimate that support team, it represents the strength of a nation."
Opposite them stood a gaunt figure carrying a heavy coffin. Strangely, his voice came from inside the coffin: "Apart from Yang Jian, we know very little about the others. At least now we're no longer completely passive..."
A bloated butcher, his body covered in flabby flesh, carrying a dull cleaver, spoke in an unusually deep voice: "A fire severely weakened us; otherwise, the assassin and the ink-stained man wouldn't have been completely helpless. That damned Wang Xiaoming..."
Opposite the butcher were two identical dolls, their movements perfectly synchronized, like mirror images of each other. They simultaneously uttered ethereal voices: "The priest has made his move. The assassin is confirmed dead at his hands. I told you long ago, he should have been killed back then."
In the corner sat a homeless man with a paintbrush, painting the raging fire on a pale human skin. Upon closer inspection, the scene in the painting was actually the location where Yang Jian and the others were attacked.
"We don't have the extra energy to deal with him now; handling the current situation is the most important thing."
"Let's move. At least we need to stop the captains. I'll repeat myself: don't underestimate them. Even if I were to face that guy named Yang Jian alone, I can't guarantee I'd escape unscathed."
"Li Jun, how much further?"
Yang Jian looked ahead, where the flames almost reached the sky, turning the entire horizon red, and even the air seemed to be filled with scorching flames.
This fire is getting increasingly strange.
