Hogwarts: A Chinese-Style Professor
Chapter 24 The Professor's Task
Chapter 24 The Professor's Task
"This matter can only be entrusted to you to investigate covertly."
If I intervene directly, I can defeat the basilisk, but I'll also alert it, and the mastermind will surely hide, making it impossible for us to catch it forever.
"Of course, before that, I will check the situation of the basilisk to make sure that it cannot show itself and harm people at present."
Li Wei's words still faintly echoed in my ears.
When Hermione and her two companions walked out of Levi's office, their eyes were completely different!
After all, they were the only people Professor Li Wei could trust in his attempt to uncover the mastermind behind it all!
Meanwhile, Hermione and Ron now have a pair of thin, non-prescription glasses on their noses—the basilisk's gaze can kill anyone who looks into it, but with the lenses to cushion the blow, the fatal effect is transformed into petrification.
"Dude, you're really bold to say there was a moment when I thought we were going to be kicked out like we were at Hagrid's."
Ron let out a long sigh and patted Harry on the shoulder.
“You’re being incredibly rude to the professor, Harry! Just like Camille said, you should use your brain to think things through before you reprimand someone!”
Hermione left in a huff without waiting for his response.
Although the task assigned by the professor was important, she just didn't want to work with these two idiots today!
"Hey, Hermione!" Ron scratched his head, looking at Hermione who wasn't turning around. "Why is she so angry this time?"
"So her name is Jia Meier."
Harry stared blankly at Hermione's departing figure and said in a daze.
"What are you talking about, buddy? You seem a bit out of sorts."
Ron's face had somehow gotten much bigger in Harry's field of vision!
His nose almost touched Harry's, and he looked up at Harry's expression with curiosity.
"Could it be that the basilisk's voice has had some effect on you? Or is using Parsleyan language a tiring thing? By the way, what does it feel like when you speak in snake language? Tell me about it!"
"I—I'm fine!"
Harry hurriedly pushed him away, and the two walked toward the Gryffindor common room.
"Snake voice, huh? I didn't feel anything when I spoke it. In fact, I felt like I was speaking normally. If you hadn't told me, I really wouldn't have known that my voice had changed at that time."
Before leaving completely, Harry couldn't help but turn his head one last time to take one last look at Levi's office.
"That professor is acting a bit strange, isn't he? But for now, I think his behavior is still good."
Ron noticed his movement, then casually clasped his hands behind his head and continued their conversation.
"yes."
Harry nodded, but his mind was filled with the image of the blond figure who had scolded him.
If his mother hadn't died, would she have corrected him just as harshly when he made mistakes?
The house-elf Barton appeared inside the owl shed.
Because he was skilled at Apparition, his stealth and efficiency far surpassed that of the owl, so Li Wei rarely used this creature in his daily life.
Even when dark wizards were rampant, Barton, as a trusted partner of Levi, still played a significant role.
Unexpectedly, now that he's in the safe haven of Hogwarts, he's lost one of his abilities.
Thinking of this, Barton felt a little disappointed—why do people always maliciously misunderstand such a pure person as his master?
"Da da da."
A pebble suddenly hit Patton not far away.
He turned his head and looked in the direction the stones had come from—at the corner of the wall at the end of his line of sight, a withered, short hand flashed by.
It looks like the hand of a house-elf.
Barton thought of the house-elves working in the kitchen and felt a little puzzled.
After all, given the personalities of those guys, they shouldn't be capable of doing something like this.
This is rather unusual. Barton first slipped the letter Levy had given him into the mailbox under the owl's feet before getting involved in the matter at hand.
"Tap tap tap." Just then, another pebble was gently tossed over, as if someone was waiting around the corner, hoping to lure Barton over in this way.
"Come out. If you want to have a normal conversation with me, I'll give you three seconds to think."
Patton did not approach rashly, but instead cautiously took a step back.
"321"
As Patton counted to 1, a sharp whisper suddenly came from around the corner.
"No, don't go, Dobby meant no harm."
A house-elf dressed in clothes that looked like an old pillowcase emerged from the corner.
"More than?"
Barton looked warily at the 'strange' house-elf in front of him, his hand quietly clenching.
"You're not a house-elf from Hogwarts Castle, are you? Who is your master?"
"Don't—don't be nervous—Dobby means no harm—Dobby's owner is—"
The little elf named Dobby suddenly went crazy halfway through his story.
He slammed his head against the stone wall before continuing to speak to Barton:
"Lucius Malfoy."
“The Malfoy family?” Barton’s face showed obvious disgust. “What brings you here as their servant?”
"Dobby wants to protect Harry Potter. Dobby heard—what Harry Potter said to your master, Hogwarts Castle is in danger now!"
There's a conspiracy! Terrible things are going to happen at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry this year! Dobby's master has planted something evil at Hogwarts.
After Dobby finished speaking, he let out another comical sob and then frantically banged his head against the wall.
Barton looked at him with pity, a hint of reluctance flashing in his eyes.
"Stop talking. You're using physical punishment to circumvent the master-servant contract, aren't you?"
Dobby suddenly raised his head, his forehead covered in blood, and stared at Barton in shock, looking both stunned and miserable.
"I'll talk next, you can just nod or shake your head."
Barton looked at the stunned Dobby and sighed.
If he hadn't met Li Wei, his situation probably wouldn't have been much better than what he has now.
It was Livy who taught him what freedom, equality, and the power of knowledge are.
It is all of this that has made Patton who he is today.
"Is the dangerous thing you mentioned related to the locked-room incident?"
Dobby paused for a moment, then nodded repeatedly.
“If that’s the case, Mr. Potter already knows about it, and my master is ready to intervene, so you don’t need to worry anymore.”
"Really?" Dobby's eyes widened. "That's a basilisk! Can your master really kill it?!"
“Yes—my name is Barton, Dobby. Would you like to come with me to see my master? He will certainly be better able to handle the message you brought.”
"No—no—as long as Harry Potter is alright, Dobby is at ease—thank you—thank you, Barton, Dobby has to go now."
Before leaving, he suddenly glanced at Patton with a hint of reluctance.
"Dobby, can I come see you again next time? Barton, you are very free, Dobby envies you—Dobby also longs for freedom."
Dobby looked at Barton, his short hands nervously clasped together, anxiously awaiting his response.
"As long as my master doesn't call me, you can find me in the Elf Kitchen during mealtimes."
