Chapter 55 The Old Alchemist's Highlight Moment
Chapter 55 The Old Alchemist's Highlight Moment
Ma Li felt like he had been in the mental world constructed by the four-dimensional instrument for a long time, but when he came out and checked his phone, less than 15 minutes had passed.
Before leaving the Alchemist Guild, he spent fifty-six silver shields to turn all the lizardman eyeballs into monster cards.
It wasn't that he was addicted to playing cards; it was mainly because as an association member, he received a discount when making monster cards, and he could earn more money by making them and then reselling them.
Moreover, the iron monster cards are easier to store than the bloody eyes.
This was also Ma Li's first time acquiring the Monster card, and the final result was somewhat beyond his expectations.
Although the edges of the palm-sized iron plate are somewhat rough, the lizardmen carved on it are all lifelike.
These lizardmen even retain some of their physical characteristics from when they were alive; one of the cards shows a lizardman riding a wild boar.
Ma Li recognized the guy who was charging at him at the last moment.
Levi, standing nearby, remarked with emotion, "The Monster Cards are actually a product of ancient alchemy, and are one of the few legacies of the Fusion School that have been preserved."
Ma Li put the seven iron plates into the backpack behind him. With the appraisal fee from before, he had already spent two Golden Eagles and fifty-six Silver Shields at the Alchemist Association today.
It can only be said that alchemists' money comes and goes quickly.
He originally wanted to go to the store to buy a magic scroll to learn a zero-ring spell, but those magic scrolls were priced at ten or twenty gold eagles, which was too expensive for him at the moment.
Moreover, learning spells doesn't necessarily require scrolls, although with his aptitude, having scrolls would indeed speed up his spellcasting process considerably.
We still need to find a way to make money first.
Levi hired someone to return his collection of precious alchemical instruments to the heavy truck, and then the old man accompanied Mali to the Rose Alliance's trading post in Eagle's Beak City.
Compared to the deserted Alchemist's Guild, this place is much more lively.
Perhaps to facilitate the trading of goods and money among guild members, the Rose Alliance did not choose to set up its headquarters in the safer and cleaner old town. Instead, it bought several houses to the west of Harvest Square and enclosed them with walls.
Carriages carrying goods and merchants, as well as porters, frequently came and went. Even through the courtyard wall, one could hear the cries of bidding, the crisp sound of golden eagles clashing against silver shields, and occasionally, a few chuckles from women.
The air was filled with the smells of horse manure, smoked fish, tanned leather, and spices.
Although they chose the new city area, it did not mean that the Rose Alliance did not care about security. On the contrary, in order to cope with the chaotic environment of the city, they hired twice as many guards.
Some people were specifically keeping an eye on the gate, while others patrolled back and forth along the courtyard wall to ensure that no suspicious person was missed.
Their equipment was even better than that of the city guards of Eagle's Beak, and they all looked highly trained.
When Mali and Levi entered, the guards at the door wanted to stop them, but they stopped when they saw the brooches on their chests that signified alchemists.
Soon someone came out to greet them. It was a rather clever-looking apprentice who first bowed to the two men before asking, "Are you two masters here to see someone, or to discuss business?"
Ma Li was slightly distracted; he felt like he had seen the sign on the courtyard wall somewhere before.
After a long pause, he looked away and said, "I want to join a guild."
The apprentice didn't quite understand. "You want to partner with the guild's merchants to sell alchemical potions?"
“No, I’ve formed my own caravan and want to join the Rose Alliance.” “But… we don’t openly recruit members,” the apprentice said, perplexed. “New members are usually recommended by senior members, or at least invited by someone at the branch leader level or above, and the number of new members a branch can recruit each year is also limited.”
"There are only two spots available in Eagle's Beak City this year, and one of them has already been decided."
Mali remembered that when Barney was rescued, he said that he had many friends in Eagle's Beak City, and that if he encountered trouble, he could try mentioning his name.
So he took out the brass brooch the latter had given him, and asked, "Do you know cowardly Barney?"
"Who?" The apprentice looked completely bewildered.
Ma Li admitted that he had overthought things, but fortunately, at this somewhat awkward moment, Li Weier stepped in.
"Is your guild leader here? I need to see him."
"you are?"
The old alchemist slammed his staff on the ground and raised his head, saying, "The Vice Dean of the Alchemy Division of the Staff of Radiance, a lifetime member of the Alchemist's Association, a platinum donor to the Turtleback Library, an honorary knight of the Kingdom of Menia, and the foremost researcher of ancient alchemy on the continent of Revatres—Liville."
…………
The Rose Alliance's trading post in Eagle's Beak City consisted of four buildings: a guild hall, two warehouses (one large and one small), and an inn for merchants to rest.
Ma Li was sitting on the first floor of the hotel when he noticed out of the corner of his eye that a group of people at a table by the wall were pointing at him and that someone had quietly left about twenty minutes earlier.
Almost half an hour had passed since Levi went to see the branch president.
The old alchemist finally reappeared at the inn's entrance, and he wasn't alone; a middle-aged man with a thick beard accompanied him, and the two chatted and laughed.
Levi also saw Mali, winked at him, and gave him an OK sign, a new gesture he had learned from Mali that meant everything was going well.
To be honest, Ma Li didn't know how he did it. He actually convinced the Eagle Beak City branch president of the Rose Alliance to give the last recruitment spot of the year to them, whom he had just met.
It can only be said that the old alchemist's ridiculously long list of titles is quite impactful to ordinary people.
Even though he has now been exiled by the academy, apart from well-informed noble lords like Garrison who know his background, ordinary guild merchants would really be intimidated by his identity.
The bearded guild leader was probably secretly delighted at the moment, having recruited another powerful ally for the alliance.
If he could use this opportunity to establish a connection with the top magic academy on the continent, the future development of the Rose Alliance would undoubtedly be smoother, and he might even receive praise from above.
Just as he was about to hand the invitation to Ma Li for signature, a voice suddenly came from outside the door.
"President Helun, wait a minute!"
Then a group of people rushed in, and the leader pointed at Ma Li and said, "He's a liar, President He Lun, be careful not to be fooled by this cunning foreigner!"
Helen was somewhat displeased upon hearing this, "Balta, how could you speak of such a distinguished guest from the capital?"
Balta sneered, "Distinguished guest, does Chairman Helen still remember what I told you four months ago?"
