The Wandering Immortal

Chapter 113 Mermaid

Chapter 113 Mermaid

Jiang Yuan hadn't moved for three months and rarely rested, while Qing He hadn't gone out at all, only occasionally peeking out from the small boat through the window.

The twelve sword pellets initially shone like stars and even froze the surrounding seawater.

Once refined with the primordial heavy water, the icy aura was sealed inside, and the entire sword pellet lost its luster, slowly becoming transparent in the water.

When Qinghe saw that only one sword pellet was still lit up, she knew that her husband's refining of the magic weapon was almost complete. She never expected that even this last one would take seven or eight days.

Once Jiang Yuan boarded the small boat, Qing He was determined to see the new magic weapon, the sword pill.

Jiang Yuan took out only one lotus leaf, which he held in his palm. It felt like it weighed at least several hundred pounds. It was completely transparent and he couldn't feel any coldness at all.

Qinghe asked in surprise, "How can it be so heavy?"

“A single drop of heavy water weighs ten thousand jin, yet this sword pellet only incorporates a tiny bit, as small as a needle tip.”

"In this way, although the attack is more ferocious, it loses its icy chill. Isn't that a pity?"

Jiang Yuan held the sword pellet in his palm. "How could it not have an icy aura?"

With a slight exertion of magical power, the sword pellet shone brightly, exuding a chilling aura, several times brighter than before.

"The purpose is to use heavy water to conceal the cold air, which will also allow for more variations in actual combat."

After the sword pellet was refined, Jiang Yuan emerged from the trench and submerged several feet below the surface to continue his search for the spiritual vein island.

Jiang Yuan knew that if he found a spiritual vein on this vast ocean, it would surely have been occupied by a powerful demon.

If it were an ordinary level eight demon, roughly at the early stage of the Nascent Soul realm, the two of them, along with the flower demon Qiongniang, could put up a fight.

If it were an eighth-level dragon or a giant whale, that would be one thing, but their supernatural powers and killing force are at least at the mid-Nascent Soul stage or above, and they would be no match for them.

After a month of such a journey, Jiang Yuan and his companion found a group of rocky islands. Each rock was no more than half a mile wide and was uneven, making it difficult to find a place to stand.

There were no seabirds to be seen here, so there must be no large islands around. It was quite strange that this reef stood out in the sea.

Although they didn't sense any spiritual energy, the underwater environment was complex and should be a place where powerful demons roamed. If they could catch a level seven demon now, the two of them should be able to take it down easily.

The seventh-level demon core is perfect for use in the late stage of the Golden Core realm, and the more the better, so Jiang Yuan wanted to try it out here.

They found a relatively flat reef, set up a trap, and still released the flower fairy Qiongniang.

After being nourished by the Soul-Nourishing Wood magic treasure, Qiongniang's soul was almost complete, and the medicinal power of the Vermilion Fruit was several times stronger.

On the third day, he obtained a level six demon core and also got some food for the little golden eagle.

We also captured a few level two or three monsters, and kept them for the time being.

On the fourth day, they caught another person.

When Jiang Yuan saw the girl, he also found her extremely strange. She looked no more than eleven or twelve years old and was dressed very little, with only a piece of fish skin covering her chest.

When the pretty girl climbed out of the water, Jiang Yuan could see clearly that she had a long fish tail and was actually a mermaid.

The mermaid did not pick the Vermilion Fruit, but instead sat down by the array trap to examine the wound on her tail, constantly looking around.

Qinghe never expected to see the legendary mermaid. However, upon closer inspection with her divine sense, she discovered that it was actually a level three minor demon.

The mermaid looked at the wound on her tail for a while, then got up and prepared to go back into the sea, but suddenly a giant crab rose from the water.

The mermaid was so frightened that she turned and ran away, tumbling and crawling into the array trap.

The crab, which had originally intended to catch the mermaid, suddenly spotted a cluster of vermilion fruits. Overjoyed, it ignored the mermaid and stretched out its massive pincers to grab the fruits. Naturally, Qiongniang wasn't caught; she vanished in a phantom. Only then did the crab realize it had fallen into a trap. It swung its pincers, striking the array's light barrier with tremendous force, creating a series of loud bangs.

The little mermaid has been dragged out by Qinghe with thorns and is terrified.

Jiang Yuan acted swiftly, activating the array to imprison the giant crab until it was unable to move. He then released his Emei assassin to kill the crab and retrieve its demon core. He also stored the crab's body into his magic treasure space; its thick shell was a valuable resource for refining defensive magic treasures.

Qinghe discovered that the mermaid couldn't speak; instead, she made soft, sobbing sounds like she was singing, and tears streamed from her eyes, rolling to the ground and turning into small pearls.

The mermaid's tail was injured by a crab's claws; it was a bloody mess, and the wound had even reached the bone.

Qinghe controlled the thorn toxins, paralyzing only the mermaid's tail, and then used a healing spell to heal her.

The little mermaid stopped struggling and looked at Qinghe and Jiangyuan with curiosity.

While tending to her wounds, Qinghe asked, "Why did you come here alone? Where are your family?"

The mermaid continued to sing mournfully.

Jiang Yuan tried to communicate with his divine sense, but it was no use.

"Although she has level three demonic power, she doesn't seem to have cultivated much, so we can't communicate with her."

Qinghe looked at Jiang Yuan, "Then what should we do? Release him once his injuries are healed?"

Jiang Yuan laughed, "What else can we do but release it? We can't even keep this little water demon alive if we try to capture it."

"To say she's a demon feels really strange; she's too much like a human!"

"They are merfolk, known as mermaids in the mortal world, but they are still a demon race."

The mermaid was badly injured, and it took Qinghe almost an hour to heal her external wounds. Several scales were missing and could not grow back for a while.

Qinghe put away the thorns and gestured for the little mermaid to leave. The mermaid, still in disbelief, picked up the few small beads that had fallen to the ground and held them in her palm before handing them to Qinghe.

Qinghe happily accepted it. Was this considered repaying a debt of gratitude?
Without further hesitation, the mermaid rose and leaped into the sea, even turning back to sing a couple of lines before diving back into the water and disappearing.

Qinghe looked at the seven or eight small beads and didn't find them anything special, so she asked Jiang Yuan, "What are these beads for?"

"Mermaid pearls also come in good and bad grades. They can be used to detoxify, make elixirs, and have beautifying effects. Grade three mermaid pearls are not very useful, but they can glow at night and are not bad as lamps."

The reef had killed a level seven demon, and its spiritual energy was somewhat chaotic. Fortunately, the area was several hundred miles wide, so Jiang Yuan changed locations and continued fishing for demons.

For two consecutive days, they failed to catch a single monster.

Qinghe laughed and said, "In the past, we always released the little demons last. We released that little mermaid early. Did she go into the sea as a warning so that no more demons would come up?"

Jiang Yuan found it amusing, "Most underwater monsters are independent cultivators without any sects. Who is she supposed to warn them about? Aren't they afraid of being eaten?"

After another day of waiting, Jiang Yuan still hadn't found anything by nightfall. He was about to leave when he suddenly heard the mermaid's mournful song.

Jiang Yuan wondered to himself, "Could it be that someone has really come to repay a debt of gratitude?"

After a while, I sensed something was wrong. The surrounding sea was filled with murderous intent, and hundreds of mermaids were singing in unison. Their songs could even affect one's consciousness; they were truly the legendary decadent music.

If Jiang Yuan hadn't set up an illusion array in his consciousness space, he might have already fallen victim to it.

Qinghe's face had turned deathly pale. Although she had also cultivated sonic techniques, she was still unable to resist the seductive sounds of hundreds of mermaids.
