Chapter 99 Attack
Chapter 99 Attack
"Caesar! You're here!"
Leon then ran through the crowd and said to him:
"Ms. Taylor is here. She told us to go upstairs to the exhibition hall. Our whole class will be attending the opening ceremony this afternoon."
There was an opening ceremony for the expo in the afternoon. The students from Class 1 of the Red Thistle requested to participate under the name of outstanding freshmen of Saint Yaro. To be honest, they were just there to support the audience.
They took the elevator to the 65th floor and entered the backstage lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows and a panoramic balcony, where the students of Class 1 of the Red Thistle Flower program were all located.
Sia was also there, but she was in the dressing room further inside. This was originally her personal rest room, but the organizers figured they were all students from the same class, so they arranged for them to use it as well.
From the room's window, you could see that Sia was wearing a gorgeous deep red dress today, with three makeup artists surrounding her and designing her makeup. Her adoptive mother, Manslivy, was standing beside her, occasionally saying something to her.
She will play an important role in the opening ceremony, and I heard that the coronation ceremony of casting the crown will be replicated on site. You can imagine how grand the scene will be.
"I'll go take care of other things first. Have someone let me know when you're done here," Manslivi said to Sia.
"I understand," Xia replied calmly.
Manslivi walked past the group of students, accompanied by two bodyguards. When she passed Caesar, she glanced at him sideways, but quickly looked away and left without expression.
After she left, only the two bodyguards remained in the room. Several students who were closer to her then ran into Xia's dressing room and started chatting excitedly.
"Xia, you look so beautiful today!"
"Yeah, it feels like you're the star of the show today."
"You're going on stage soon, you must be very nervous, right?"
They chattered away, while Sia only gave a few absent-minded replies. Caesar noticed that on this grand day, she seemed very downcast, as if she were about to go to an execution ground instead of a stage.
"Wow, there are free snacks here!" Leon devoured all the snacks prepared on the table as soon as he arrived, stuffing several into his pockets while still having a few in his mouth.
“Caesar, have some to eat too,” he waved to Caesar.
"You'd better behave yourself."
"I can't stand it! How can there be such a person!"
The door opened, and Tess walked in, grumbling.
"What's wrong with you?" Leon asked, chewing on a biscuit.
"Someone was causing trouble in the venue, suddenly throwing paint on the exhibits!" Tess said angrily, hands on her hips. "I was even called to clean up the mess. If I hadn't had to attend the opening ceremony, I would have stayed there to clean up the mess!"
Why would someone throw paint on someone?
"Who knows? It's just boring performance art that only they can understand!" Tess said angrily, snatching the plate of cakes from Leon's hands.
Caesar listened from the side, frowning slightly, thinking of something, but feeling that it didn't quite make sense.
"By the way, Tess, did your company participate in the exhibition? I didn't see it," Leon asked.
Tess glanced at him, a smirk playing on her lips, and scoffed, "You'll see soon enough."
Just as Leon and Caesar were wondering what was going on, the roar of an airplane suddenly came from outside.
Immediately, everyone's attention was drawn out, and they gathered around the floor-to-ceiling window to look outside.
The Century Tower is the tallest building in the capital, offering an unobstructed view with an extremely wide field of vision.
The crowd saw several planes flying side by side in the distant sky, led by a heavy bomber. They flew over the city, their propellers roaring, leaving trails of colorful smoke behind them.
The students gasped in amazement at the performance. "Heh heh, this is the technological achievement of Giant Rock Industries, including the latest model of the 'White Whale' bomber. It was specially approved for this expo to fly around the city. Pretty impressive, right?" Tess explained to the crowd with her arms crossed.
"Wow, that's awesome. Hey, Tess, was that missile part of your performance too?" Leon asked.
"Huh? What missile?" Tess asked, puzzled.
"that."
Leon pointed to the horizon, where a missile, like a shooting star, was heading in their direction, leaving a trail behind it.
"Oh, that's not it."
Tess was still bewildered when, in the next moment, the missile came hurtling in and instantly struck an airship floating in the sky.
The exploding flames and scattered debris were reflected in everyone's eyes. The airship emitted a series of explosions, then lost power and plummeted downwards.
The roar shook the earth as the burning airship crashed into the crowd below, destroying all nearby buildings. In an instant, screams and explosions echoed throughout the city.
They stared in disbelief at all this before realizing that this didn't seem to be a performance.
The expo has been attacked!
Xia also came out of the dressing room, looking down in shock at everything that was happening below.
"here we go again!"
Someone exclaimed, "Now everyone can see it!" Another missile shot in like a meteor, striking another airship in the sky and causing it to crash.
Now only one airship remains in the sky, but everyone can see that there are flashes of fire coming from the manned cabin below the airship.
"Machine gun." Caesar's eyes darkened.
A row of machine guns extended from the manned cabin and began firing at the crowd below!
"Yumeria!"
His heart sank, and he pushed past the crowd, immediately wanting to rush down.
But then someone shouted again, the airship was slowly approaching them, so close that everyone could see the machine gun muzzles on it.
"Is that thing... aimed at us?" Leon asked tremblingly.
"Heh, heh heh. What are you all afraid of?" Tess's voice trembled slightly, but she still tried to remain calm and tapped on the glass in front of her.
"The glass supplier for the Century Tower is Jushi Industrial, using military-grade bulletproof glass. Don't worry, we're perfectly safe."
The moment she finished speaking, a fierce flash erupted from the machine gun muzzle, and the glass shattered with a series of cracking sounds, bursting into countless tiny fragments.
"Everyone, get to your rooms!!"
The two bodyguards left inside shouted sharply, and all the students screamed and ran into the inner room.
The next moment, the glass shattered amidst the barrage of fire, and then the walls, sofa, decorations, and bookshelves inside the room were all smashed by the roar of bullets, with debris flying everywhere.
Caesar hid behind a wall, and when the attack stopped, the house was completely empty.
He heard the sound of the grappling hook being launched; a rope shot out, striking the outer wall of the building and connecting the airship to their room.
The two bodyguards peeked out from behind cover, about to raise their guns to stop them, when a loud sniper shot rang out, and both were hit in the head and died instantly.
A swishing sound came from inside; someone was sliding down a rope into their room.
