Chapter 312 Testing
Chapter 312 Testing
Emerging from the Lush Forest, Caesar still wore a sullen expression. Yumilia glanced at him cautiously a few times, then smiled helplessly:
"It's alright, this spring water will cleanse all impurities, it won't be dirty."
"Alright, stop talking. Just let me forget about it," Caesar said with a sigh, rubbing his forehead.
Yumilia didn't know how to comfort him, so she thought for a moment and said, "Oh right, let's go to the pastry shop with Yumilia later! Eating something sweet will make you forget everything."
She excitedly took Caesar's hand and led him back to the cottage.
As they were tidying up, someone knocked on the door, and Caesar went to open it.
"headmaster?"
The visitor was none other than Greenwall, his former student at St. Illustrated Academy.
“Good afternoon, Caesar,” Grindelwald greeted him and Yumilia inside.
Eight years have passed, and Greenwald has stepped down as principal of St. Jaro and officially entered retirement. However, he still looks so young and unchanged, with an elegant demeanor.
“Caesar, I’m not your principal anymore. You’ve graduated, and I’ve retired.” Greenwald smiled faintly, stepped around him, and went inside.
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Yumilia."
He took off his hat and greeted Yumilia.
"Oh, hello, Principal, what brings you here?"
Yumilia quickly got up to greet her.
“Oh, I came to visit. I heard Caesar was back, but I haven’t had a chance to pay him a visit. I went to your residence today and then heard you were at the Ecological Institute, so I came along,” Greenwald said.
"Won't this bother you?" he asked with a faint smile.
“No. Um, I’ll go prepare some tea and snacks,” Yumilia said.
“Oh, no need. I won’t be staying long anyway. I’ll just talk to Caesar,” Greenwald said.
Yumilia looked at Caesar, bewildered.
Caesar gave her a wink, and she responded with an "oh," then got up and went upstairs.
Greenwald sat down on the sofa, and Caesar sat opposite him.
Looking at Caesar before him, a smile involuntarily appeared on his lips: "Two years have passed, and you have grown a lot, Caesar."
“It’s hard not to grow in a place like that,” Caesar shrugged. “The more you see, the more mature you become.”
“Yes, I only really understood a lot about life after I joined the army,” Greenworth nodded.
Caesar paused for a moment, then said, "Headmaster, if there's anything you need to tell me today, just tell me. There's no need for us teachers and students to hide anything from each other."
Greenwald stared at him for a moment, chuckled, and leaned down to pat him on the shoulder.
"Are you still afraid that I'll beat around the bush with you? Come to think of it, Caesar, you're a big shot now."
“Principal, you’re joking. No matter what, I’m still your student,” Caesar chuckled.
“Alright, then I’ll be frank,” Greenwald nodded, looking at him seriously.
"I heard you were getting quite close to Myrnor the other day?"
Caesar understood why Grindelwald had come. Melnor was one of the financial backers of the Ungol faction, holding shares in Enled's Sapphire Company; his position was sensitive.
However, it's unnecessary to say that Grindelwald came because of his close relationship with Caesar, since it's clear to everyone in the kingdom that this young talent has the support of Chancellor Enred.
What Greenworth is really concerned about is Mairno's recent acquisition of Ironstone Energy. Greenworth's backers, the Boabin faction, are also involved in the acquisition plan, and the two sides are currently engaged in fierce competition. Meanwhile, Caesar, who has tens of millions in assets, is meeting with Mairno at this time, which makes it hard not to suspect something.
Greenwald probably approached him to negotiate because of their past relationship.
“Oh, we just happened to run into each other on my way back, so we had a meal together. I also had some business matters I wanted to consult with Mr. Mernault, so we kept in touch for a few more days,” Caesar said.
"If you, Principal, are still worried, I should be able to recount the topics we discussed."
Greenwald stared at him, and after a moment, burst into laughter.
"Look at you, why are you so nervous? I'm just chatting with you, not interrogating you. It's just that Mairno is a bad person. I saw you with him and I was afraid that my student would be led astray. That's why I came to talk to you."
"Headmaster, I'm an adult now. Like I said before, I've seen so much, how could I be so easily led astray?" Caesar chuckled.
"Although Mr. Mernault has his shortcomings, he has unique insights into business and cooperation. Communicating with him is very helpful for a newcomer like me."
“I trust you, Caesar. I knew you were a good kid back in school,” Greenwald said. “However, sometimes you need to be clear about your stance. You’re still young, and many things aren’t as simple as they seem.”
Greenwald's tone gradually softened: "Don't ruin your future for short-term gains, or you'll drag those around you down with you."
The two looked at each other, and finally Caesar smiled faintly: "I understand, Headmaster, thank you for your guidance."
Greenwald laughed: "It's not really teaching. Like I said, it's just a chat, and besides, you don't need me to teach you anything right now."
"That's too much to say. I still have a lot to learn."
Greenwald stood up: "Alright, I should go too. Oh, right."
He said to Caesar, "We're having a dinner party next Wednesday. There are quite a few people coming, including Director Rhys of the Krall Bureau and President Corlit of the Kingdom's Chamber of Commerce. Would you like to join us?"
"With so many seniors here, wouldn't I just get a lecture if I went?" Caesar shrugged.
“Just treat it as entertainment. There are lots of people, it’s very lively,” Greenworth said.
After a moment's thought, Caesar said, "Well then, thank you for your invitation, Principal."
“Alright, I’ll send the invitation to your residence in a bit. Oh, you can bring Yumilia along,” he smiled slightly.
The two shook hands, then Greenwald straightened his clothes and took his leave of Caesar.
"call"
Caesar sat back on the sofa and let out a long sigh.
The fact that Greenwald was in such a hurry to see him at this time might not be solely about Ironstone Energy Company; he might also be trying to gather other intelligence.
Greenwald was certainly aware of his relationship with Enlid, but perhaps he still harbored a sliver of hope, believing himself to be someone he could win over, and the dinner he had just mentioned was a test.
"Hehe, thinking that Mr. Greenworth is almost ninety years old and still worries about his faction even after retiring, running around for it, I suddenly feel a little sorry for him."
Just then, Yumilia poked her head out from around the corner of the stairs: "Caesar, have you finished talking with the principal?"
Looking at Yumilia, Caesar smiled slightly: "Well, let's go get some snacks!"
