Chapter 282 The Last Calm Before the Storm
Chapter 282 The Last Calm Before the Storm
“I think my life is pretty good right now. With Caesar by my side, it’s okay if we live in a small house. You don’t need to rush to make money to buy a bigger house,” Yumilia muttered.
“Yumeria, this is Caesar’s wish. What parent wouldn’t be happy for their child’s achievements? Isn’t it only right for a child to be grateful to their parents when they’ve made something of themselves?” Freya said to her.
"This..." Yumilia looked at Caesar, then at Freya, and finally said:
"Okay, but Caesar, don't buy a house that's too expensive. I think a single-level apartment would be fine. It can have a garden and a small balcony, and a few more rooms. It can also be used as a new house when you get married."
"Mom, where did you get off to this time?" Caesar said, speechless.
"If...if Caesar really made a lot of money, we could travel all the time, right? We could go to the Barberia steppe, the Chanoja Desert, oh! And the Arctic! We could see the Great Wall, and the aurora borealis. The professor told me that there are often months of darkness there, and the sky is filled with colorful auroras and countless stars—it's so beautiful! I really want to see it!"
Yumilia spoke to herself, a look of longing on her face.
Freya and Caesar looked at her silly expression and both smiled helplessly.
"By the way," Yumilia said, looking at Freya, "Mom, are you free during the holidays? I'd love to go on a trip with you!"
"I'm sorry, Yumilia." Freya gave a helpless wry smile. "We're usually busiest during the harvest festival, so we can't be with you. But I'll have about a week of free time after the harvest festival. Shall I take you out to play then?"
"Oh, okay then. I was originally planning to go out with everyone," Yumilia said, slightly disappointed.
Caesar and Itha only have time during the harvest festival, but after the harvest festival, it will probably be just her and her daughter Freya traveling together.
They chatted about their holiday plans in the car and soon arrived at Ita's mansion.
After dropping them off, Freya drove away first.
The servants at the door led them into the mansion and to Ita's study.
"Ita, we've come to play with you."
Yumilia pushed open the study door, only to be startled by the scene before her.
The room was filled with all sorts of documents and clutter, leaving no room to even step. On the desk, there was a tall stack of documents, almost teetering on the verge of collapse.
Beneath this pile of documents, they found Ita, who was in a dazed and confused state.
"Ita, are you alright? Wake up." Yumilia threw the folder off her head and quickly shook her shoulders.
"Um, I'll take a little more nap."
"Ita said groggily, propping himself up to sit up."
She looked up and saw that it was Yumilia and Caesar standing in front of her, and then she came to her senses a little more.
"Yumeria, Caesar, what brings you here?" She rubbed her eyes and yawned deeply.
"How long have you not slept?"
Caesar looked at her face, her exhaustion almost tangible, her eyelids were so tired they looked like silkworms, and her golden eyes had almost lost their luster.
"Three days. Four days? Uh, anyway, it's been a long time. Since I came back from school, I haven't left my desk except to go to the bathroom," Ita sighed.
"Are you working this much? Didn't Doruvan and the others come to help?"
Caesar looked at all the documents in the room, and there were stacks of coffee cups on the table. Ita looked really tired.
“They’ve all gone on business trips, they have other things to do, and we can’t get manpower from other places, so I have to do it all myself,” Ita said with a sigh.
"To be honest, this is after cutting the workload in half. We've delegated everything that can be handled to others."
"Are you that busy?"
"There's no other way. The family's annual work settlement is coming up soon, and I need to finish the sorting work a week before the harvest festival, so I have to work overtime."
"Sigh, what can I do? I'm the head of the family."
"You've worked so hard, Ita." Yumilia touched her tired face with heartache.
During this time, her mind was completely focused on Caesar, who was preparing for the exam, and she completely neglected her own young daughter who also needed care.
"Ita, I'm sorry. I should have come to see you sooner," Yumilia said apologetically.
"It's alright, but I can't stay with you today. Let's do it after I finish my work," Ita said.
Caesar picked up the documents and began to read them. Most of them were approval reports, or evaluation summaries and the like. He often dealt with this kind of thing when he was in charge of the empire.
“Let me help you; that will speed things up a bit,” Caesar said.
“Really? But some of this work is quite difficult,” Ita said. “Heh, don’t forget who I am,” Caesar chuckled at her.
"Leave it to me."
So, for the rest of the day, Caesar and Itha spent the rest of the day in the study, dealing with matters concerning the city.
Ita really didn't expect that with Caesar on board, the progress would be much faster. Caesar was incredibly skilled in this area, as if he had done it countless times before, doing it both quickly and well.
Finally, in the dead of night, Ita closed the last folder and let out a joyful cheer.
"All done! Yay!"
She really didn't expect that the workload that would have taken at least three or four days of overtime could be completed in just one day with Caesar's help!
"That's awesome! We can do whatever we want for the next few days! Thanks to Caesar! I love you so much!"
Ita excitedly pounced on Caesar, planting a big kiss on each cheek.
"Alright, alright, get down now, I can't take your fussing," Caesar said quickly.
He was exhausted after a long day of intense work.
"Well, Caesar has done me such a great favor, and I have nothing to repay him with. So, may I thank Caesar with myself?"
Ita wrapped her arms around his neck, blinked her eyes, and said in a shy manner.
Caesar chuckled and gave her a hard slap on the bottom.
"Go take a shower, you've turned into a stinky dragon."
"Ugh," Ita blushed, quickly got off Caesar, and ran out.
"Yumeria! I'm all done, let's go take a bath together!"
Ita's voice echoed in the corridor outside.
While they were working, Yumilia stayed by their side, making tea and snacks for them. Now she was so tired that she lay down on the sofa in the living room.
After taking a bath, having a good meal, and snuggling in Yumilia's arms for a while, Ita finally regained her usual energy and spirit.
It was already very late, and Yumilia was trying to get them to sleep. But as she was doing so, she fell asleep herself first. Ita secretly rolled over and went to sleep next to Caesar.
"Finally, I can rest. I can spend more time with Yumilia and Caesar now," Ita said softly, her arm around his.
“It won’t be very quiet afterwards, especially during the harvest festival,” Caesar said, gazing at the ceiling.
"Yes, it's about Yumilia, isn't it?" Ita's eyes lowered slightly.
Previously, Caesar had told Itha about Yumilia and the plans for the Harvest Festival.
"I will stay with Caesar and protect Yumilia together," Ita said softly.
"So, Caesar, don't put so much pressure on yourself. We're here for you. She'll be alright."
“Hmm,” Caesar said.
"We're going to see Professor Muirner again tomorrow to discuss our future plans."
"Got it," Ita muttered.
"Don't be so dissatisfied with Muirna all the time. She's one of our comrades now. If it weren't for her, we might not know about Yumilia's situation yet."
"It's not that I'm dissatisfied with her, it's just..." Ita hesitated, then stopped herself.
It was because Muirner always liked to tease her, and this feeling of being mocked made her particularly unhappy.
But she had to admit that this time, she was very grateful to Muirna. Her opinion of this long-lived elf had changed to some extent, and she no longer showed her dissatisfaction to his face.
“By the way, Caesar,” Ita snuggled closer to him and whispered in his ear, “how about we go on a trip with Yumilia before the harvest festival?”
“Ita.” Caesar was about to say that with the situation so urgent, why was she still thinking about going out to play? But he immediately understood what she meant.
Gazing at Yumilia's beautiful sleeping face beside him, Caesar remained silent for a long time before finally nodding.
"I'll listen to you, but it's best to find a place closer to home."
“Yes,” Ita responded immediately.
Both she and Caesar knew that perhaps this journey was the last calm before the coming storm.
