The Martial Lord of the Troubled World
Chapter 3 Revolver
Chapter 3 Revolver
Fu Juemin went up to his bedroom on the third floor.
The room was so spacious it was almost luxurious, with a telephone, a phonograph and a full set of polo equipment in the corner, and the entire south wall was made of floor-to-ceiling enamel windows.
Outside the window, the rain poured down, the raindrops pounding fiercely against the glass, creating a hazy, watery effect inside.
Fu Juemin walked to a rosewood desk on the east side of the room, casually placed the ginseng box he was carrying on the desk, and was still thinking about the water monkey.
He went to the dock and heard about the eerie and strange nature of what he had witnessed, but Fu Guoping categorically denied it, leaving him now unsure whether there really was something supernatural at play.
"It's best if there isn't one."
Fu Juemin thought to himself as he opened the top drawer of his desk.
Inside was a neatly stacked pile of letters—all love letters written by the original owner of this body, addressed to "Zhou Yunzhi".
Zhou Yunzhi is a student at a girls' middle school in Luanhe County. She comes from an average family, but she is very beautiful.
After seeing her once, the original owner was immediately awestruck and began to pursue her ardently.
The car accident that led to Fu Juemin's time travel happened on the original owner's way to meet Zhou Yunzhi, as arranged by the note.
Fu Juemin randomly picked up a love letter and unfolded it. The cheesy and childish words on it left him speechless, no wonder it had been returned time and time again.
After parting the letter and searching through it again, Fu Juemin finally found what he was looking for.
Take out two delicate tin boxes, each about the size of a palm, and open them.
When Fu Juemin saw what was inside the box, his eyes twitched.
Inside is a revolver.
The gun body is made of nickel silver, finely polished to a soft, warm sheen. The stock is made of ebony, smooth as silk in the hand. One side of the grip is engraved with an olive branch and an eagle, along with a line of small Velido lettering—"Webley".
"Isn't this more attractive than a woman?"
Fu Juemin couldn't help but pick up the pistol and, imitating the action from movies in his previous life, held the gun with both hands and held it horizontally forward.
This pistol was a gift from his second uncle, Fu Guoping, to him for his eighteenth birthday last year. He played with it for a while when he first got it, but then he lost interest and left it to gather dust at the bottom of a drawer.
In this era of widespread firearms, nothing could give Fu Juemin a greater sense of security than a gun.
"I'll have to go back and learn how to fire a gun from my second uncle..."
Fu Guoping is the director of the Civil Affairs Department of Luanhe County. The Civil Affairs Department is an agency under the Police Department and belongs to the officially recognized civilian armed organization. Its main responsibility is to assist the police in arrest activities.
The Fu family is wealthy. Fu Guoping employs hundreds of people and hundreds of guns, and even has his own shooting range for practice.
Fu Juemin walked around the room with his gun, imagining all sorts of enemies rushing towards him from all directions, and then falling dead under his gun.
The pistol was unloaded; when the trigger was pulled, only a crisp click of the mechanism could be heard, but even so, Fu Juemin felt extremely satisfied.
Unconsciously, Fu Juemin arrived at the window and pointed his gun out the window, searching for a target.
Suddenly, he saw two figures in a strange pose on the grass in his backyard, squatting motionless in the rain.
Fu Juemin's eyes flickered slightly, and he slowly lowered his gun.
He stared at the two little figures who were constantly getting soaked in the rain for a while, and then, as if he had thought of something, he silently put away his gun, turned around and left the room.
The Fu family mansion occupies a vast area. The main gate is located on the south side, where guests are welcomed. The lawn and garden on the east side are where Fu family relatives relax, play, and gather. The backyards on the west and north sides are the areas where the servants live.
Fu Juemin is in the backyard now.
Under the wide pavilion, a dozen or so strong and vigorous young men were gathered. Some were wrestling, and some were playing with stone weights. When they saw Fu Juemin, they all called him "Young Master".
Fu Juemin smiled at them, then walked straight to the only person sitting on a chair under the pavilion.
Following the old-fashioned customs of wealthy families, the Fu family kept a group of guards who served as both thugs and bodyguards. These guards were usually managed by one person, who was the person Fu Juemin was now looking for—a thin, white-haired "little old man" who was half-reclining in a rattan chair.
Fu Juemin walked up to the man who looked like an old man and respectfully greeted him, "Uncle Tong."
The man looked up at him when he heard the voice, smiled, and his face, now lined with wrinkles, made him look even older.
"Young Master, what brings you to the backyard?"
The man's name was Li Tong, and he was actually only in his forties. It was said that he aged prematurely because of carelessness during his martial arts training when he was young and the injury he sustained later.
Li Tong is the head of the Fu family's guards. Fu Juemin only knows that he is a very powerful martial artist. He was brought back by Fu Guosheng in his early years and has been staying in the Fu family ever since. Even Fu Guosheng treats him with great respect.
"I had nothing to do, so I just came over to take a look."
A quick-thinking guard brought Fu Juemin a chair, and Fu Juemin sat down next to Li Tong. Seeing a plate of fruit on the small table in front of him, he picked up an orange and peeled it to eat.
"Uncle Tong".
Fu Juemin pointed to two people squatting in the rain in the distance and asked, "What are these two doing?"
Li Tong replied, "Let them learn their lesson if they don't do their jobs properly."
"How long are we going to have to stand here?"
"It's not long, only about two hours."
Two shichen is four hours.
Fu Juemin clicked his tongue inwardly. If this rain continued until night, wouldn't people suffer from hypothermia after four hours?
Of course, this is not something Fu Juemin needs to worry about.
He chatted with Li Tong casually, and after a long pause, he finally couldn't resist peeling an orange and handing it to Li Tong.
"Uncle Tong, I need your help."
Li Tong turned his face to look at him, a half-smile on his face, "What is it? Tell me."
Fu Juemin said, "I want to learn martial arts from you, Uncle Tong."
As soon as Fu Juemin spoke, the guards sitting nearby immediately stopped what they were doing and turned around in unison.
Li Tong was also taken aback. "Why do you suddenly want to learn martial arts from me?"
Fu Juemin had already prepared his explanation.
"The doctor at Xing'antang said that this car accident damaged the body's foundation. Daily medication and dietary therapy are ultimately only supplementary; the key is to strengthen the body itself."
As he spoke, he made a perfectly timed gesture of helplessness on his face and glanced toward the front yard. "I wanted to practice Western fencing and polo, but now Dad won't even let me leave the house freely."
The entire Fu family knew how serious the car accident had been, so this reason was indeed reasonable. The guards exchanged glances, all showing expressions of understanding.
After Fu Juemin finished speaking, he waited quietly, his gaze fixed on Li Tong's face.
Li Tong did not answer immediately, but looked down at the peeled orange that Fu Juemin handed him.
After a while, he took the oranges that Fu Juemin handed him and slowly stood up from the rattan chair.
"Make them stand there for another half an hour, then have someone in the kitchen boil a bowl of ginger soup."
Li Tong casually gave an order to a guard, then walked straight out of the pavilion with his hands behind his back.
Fu Juemin hurriedly got up and followed, feeling slightly relieved—this matter was probably settled.
