The Star Train's Journey Through the Heavens
Chapter 174 What do you want to become?
Chapter 174 What do you want to become?
"Don't tell my grandpa I'm here." Luffy plunged headfirst into the nearby haystack.
Meng Huaifeng looked up at Garp, who was flying straight toward them, and shook his head. Was it something he wouldn't know if he wasn't told?
"Pfft."
Karp landed heavily in front of Meng Huaifeng.
"Hello, sir." Meng Huaifeng greeted him with a smile.
"I've never seen you in Windmill Village before. You're not a pirate, are you?" Garp said, slightly flexing his wrist.
"Of course not, do you think I look like it?" Meng Huaifeng shrugged and denied it.
Garp looked Meng Huaifeng up and down. From his demeanor, attire, and temperament, he didn't seem like a pirate who spent his days tumbling on the high seas. Instead, he looked like a nobleman.
But for Garp, nobles and pirates are equally disgusting.
Garp, with his nostrils flared, ignored Meng Huaifeng and walked over to the haystack, then suddenly pulled Luffy out.
"You brat, why are you hiding from your grandpa? Is Shanks trying to tempt you to become a pirate again? Let me tell you, you're going to be a Marine someday, so stay away from those guys, understand?" Garp said, glaring at him.
"I don't want to be a Marine!" Luffy shouted in protest.
"boom!"
Garp punched Luffy on the head.
"You still dream of becoming a pirate? Have you forgotten the Iron Fist I love?"
Luffy's head was instantly crushed by Garp's punch, and he was almost hammered into his chest!
Garp's eyes bulged out instantly, his mouth gaped open, and his jaw almost dislocated.
"No...no...I didn't use any force! I used to use the same amount of force. Luffy!!! It's all my fault! I was wrong! Please come back to life! I'll never hit you again, waaaah..." Garp cried, tears streaming down his face, grabbing Luffy's little arm and shaking it violently.
Luffy's arm was instantly stretched out, and Garp let out a "whoop," thinking he had accidentally pulled his grandson's arm off again, and cried even more bitterly.
"Luffy!!!"
"puff."
Luffy's head bounced back, and he exclaimed in surprise, "Really? Grandpa, you really won't hit me anymore?"
Garp's mournful wailing stopped abruptly. He stared blankly at Luffy for a moment, then shook Luffy's arm in his hand.
Luffy's noodle-like arms instantly contracted, returning to their original shape.
"This is... a Devil Fruit?" Garp murmured.
"I heard from Shanks that it's a Devil Fruit, the Gum-Gum Fruit. After eating it, I can't swim anymore," Luffy said, pouting.
"You brat! How dare you scare your grandpa! Do you know how scared I was just now?!" Garp, realizing what had happened, was furious and started punching Luffy again.
"Didn't you just say you wouldn't hit me?"
"When did Grandpa say that?" Garp, in his old rogue form, vehemently denied it.
Even though he knew this was normal practice for Garp to educate his son and grandson, Meng Huaifeng still couldn't stand it.
The scene was so horrific it was unbearable to witness.
Meng Huaifeng grabbed Garp's fist and said helplessly, "Uncle Garp, that's enough. How can you hit a child like that?"
"Yes, that's me. I'm disciplining my grandson, you're none of your business." Garp gave Meng Huaifeng a disapproving look.
My dad taught me this way, and I teach my sons the same way. Look how successful they are!
You think you, a mere young upstart, know more about teaching children than an old man like me?
No one knows more about education than me, not even Zefa!
“You can stop after a few hits, but if you keep hitting me, I can’t just stand by and do nothing.” Meng Huaifeng shook his head.
"If you can do it, try stopping me, haha." Garp laughed and threw a punch at Meng Huaifeng.
Garp was pleased that he was standing up for his grandson, and he found Meng Huaifeng much more agreeable. So he didn't use Haki, but just used a normal attack.
Although Meng Huaifeng was not very skilled in hand-to-hand combat, he easily parried Garp's attacks with his superior physical abilities and reaction speed.
Garp was somewhat surprised and gradually increased his strength.
Luffy's deformed body, which had been badly beaten, gradually returned to normal. He scratched his head and said, "Strange, it doesn't hurt."
Then Luffy's eyes lit up with excitement.
If I can ignore my grandfather's fists now, does that mean I can take revenge?
"You old bastard, you broke your promise! Take this!" Luffy always does what he thinks without hesitation.
He swung his fists and joined the attack on Garp.
"boom."
Luffy's fist stretched out and landed on Garp's old face.
Garp slowly looked at Luffy and gave him a kind smile.
"Ada da da".
Luffy pressed on, raining punches down on Garp.
Meng Huaifeng looked at Luffy speechlessly.
Luffy, it's not that your brother doesn't want to help you, it's that you brought this on yourself.
If Garp couldn't overcome his obstruction, he probably would have given up.
But now, even if I can't break through my own limits, once I'm gone, Luffy will probably give me a beating sooner or later.
It's better to watch over it yourself; that way, you can be gentler and finish a little earlier.
"Go easy on me," Meng Huaifeng said to Kapu after stopping his attack.
"You brat, are you ready to experience Grandpa's iron fist of love?" Garp asked, pressing down on his fist.
"I'm not afraid of you anymore!" Luffy said, mustering his courage.
A thin layer of blackened material covered Garp's fist.
"boom!"
"Ow~"
Luffy clutched his head and screamed in pain; his forehead was visibly swollen.
"How...how could this be? It hurts so much. It wasn't hurting just now." Luffy's tears began to well up in his eyes.
Garp punched Luffy and said admiringly to Meng Huaifeng, "Good lad, you've got some skills. Come join the Marines."
"No." Meng Huaifeng shook his head without hesitation: "Didn't you yourself not want to be promoted to admiral? Why are you so keen on making someone a naval officer?"
"You know quite a lot," Garp said in surprise. "Even a bad order is better than no order at all. The Navy is, after all, the greatest organization of justice. It's good to wait for the right time... Haha."
The worst thing you can do is to talk too much with someone you don't know well. Don't let Garp's seemingly brainless appearance fool you; he's actually more shrewd than anyone else.
After giving a vague and evasive answer, Garp chuckled and moved on.
That's enough. Those who understand will understand, and those who don't don't need to understand anyway. It's safer if they don't understand.
Suddenly, Meng Huaifeng had a realization.
While the other D's are either hiding their identities or becoming pirates, you guys have joined the Navy.
So that's how they came up with the indirect approach.
The World Government may have wanted to make a show of generosity to other Ds, so they let Monkey D. join, not only ignoring him but also turning him into a naval hero.
I originally thought Garp was carefree and brainless, but it turns out he's the smartest one.
"Uncle Garp is a man of great talent," Meng Huaifeng remarked.
"Hahaha, you flatter me, you flatter me." Garp scratched the back of his head and grinned.
Meng Huaifeng couldn't help but wonder if his guess was wrong. "You brat, you're not allowed to be a pirate, do you hear me?" Garp said to Luffy again.
"You old geezer, I never said I wanted to be a pirate!" Luffy said, feeling wronged.
"Huh? Didn't you say you wanted to become a pirate the last few times Grandpa came home?" Garp asked in surprise.
"I've changed my dream!" Luffy said.
"Haha, it was Grandpa's fault. I hit you without asking clearly. Have you finally decided to join the Navy with Grandpa? Tell Grandpa loudly what you want to become!" Garp's old face beamed with joy.
"I want to be a pioneer!"
"What kind of person?"
"pioneer!"
"Open what?"
"The Trail Blazers!"
"boom!"
"What are these Pioneers? Join the Navy for Grandpa! And who tricked you?" Garp angrily punched Luffy on the head again, loudly questioning him.
"Ahem, Uncle Garp, think positively. Being a pioneer is much better than being a pirate, right?" Meng Huaifeng coughed lightly.
"Is it you, kid?" Garp's gaze toward Meng Huaifeng turned dangerous.
“It’s not just me. And it’s mainly your grandson who has that talent,” Meng Huaifeng said seriously.
"My grandson is naturally talented at everything! Since you're not the only one, I'll defeat you first, then I'll go and defeat the others. Let that brat Luffy know that being a Marine is the best, and change his mind," Garp said.
"Uncle Garp, I hope you can calm down and not act impulsively," Meng Huaifeng said sincerely to Garp.
"What, are you scared now that you know my reputation on the high seas? Don't worry, you're not a pirate, I'll go easy on you." Garp felt it was necessary to show Luffy his power, maybe it could inspire his desire to join the Navy.
"I just don't want to beat up a grandfather in front of his grandson and make him lose face," Meng Huaifeng said.
"Kid, you're really arrogant. If you can do it, then come on." Garp stopped talking nonsense and threw a punch at Meng Huaifeng.
"Although I don't like fighting, I do know a little bit of martial arts. Uncle Garp, I'm sorry to offend you." Meng Huaifeng had no choice but to engage in a brutal, hand-to-hand combat with Garp.
The two men clashed fists, but Meng Huaifeng remained unmoved, while Garp actually took several steps back.
"I underestimated you," Garp said in surprise, as his fists began to crackle with Haki.
Windmill Village is Garp's hometown, and even during battle, Garp always controls his power to prevent it from leaking out.
Meng Huaifeng even used his protective power to shield the surrounding area.
Garp was unable to defeat Meng Huaifeng, and his power grew stronger and stronger. In the end, Armament Haki wrapped around his fists, making them look like two black iron hammers!
Without using imaginary energy or etheric editing, relying solely on his physical strength, Meng Huaifeng actually managed to fight Garp, who was going all out, to a standstill.
"Go Huaifeng! Defeat the old man!" Luffy shouted from the side, a true display of grandfatherly love and filial piety.
Garp was furious, but after glancing at Meng Huaifeng's white fists, he knew he had already lost; his opponent hadn't even used Haki.
Am I getting old? Garp wondered with some doubt.
However, it's been a long time since I've had such a great time playing, let's play again!
"Fist bone impact!"
In this world, battles between tanks often last for a day or two. Just as Garp was getting excited, Meng Huaifeng had already had his fill of fighting.
As he said, he doesn't like fighting; he's content with just experiencing things briefly.
To be honest, the experience of each punch landing hard wasn't great; Garp's iron fists still hurt quite a bit.
With the power of exploration protecting you, the effect of the protection is greatly enhanced.
The impact of the fist only made Meng Huaifeng pause slightly, and then, with a speed that even Garp's Observation Haki couldn't react to, he punched Garp's head.
Meng Huaifeng underestimated Garp's strength; he didn't even knock him out with a single punch.
"Sorry," Meng Huaifeng said apologetically, then punched Garp twice more before he finally went to sleep.
"Sukkomi!" Luffy exclaimed in amazement, looking at Meng Huaifeng with admiration: "He actually defeated Grandpa, the Great Demon King! He's so strong!"
"Keep up the good work, you'll be just as amazing someday." Meng Huaifeng had no doubt that once the two worlds were linked, Luffy would be able to embark on his own path of adventure.
"Mmm." Little Luffy nodded repeatedly, then quickly ran into a house in Windmill Village, dug out a piece of charcoal from under the stove, and started drawing on Garp's face.
"hu~hu~"
As Karp lay on the ground, he gradually began to snore, and a snot bubble popped out of his nose, its volume varying with the volume of his snoring.
He had clearly woken up from his coma, but then fell asleep again.
A group of sailors rushed over from the beach and pointed their weapons at Meng Huaifeng.
Bogart had noticed the fight between Garp and Meng Huaifeng long ago, but he never expected that Garp would be the one to lose.
The purpose of their fight is unknown, nor is it clear whether they are enemies.
Even Garp lost, so they obviously can't be a match for him.
But Bogart still decided to bring the navy over.
Seeing that Garp was not killed but was asleep, Bogart breathed a sigh of relief. When facing a truly powerful enemy, Vice Admiral Garp would not fall asleep.
The other party is clearly very powerful, but they are probably not an enemy.
Bogart waved for the navy to put away their weapons.
Seeing this, Meng Huaifeng also abandoned the idea of kicking old man Garp awake.
……
Although the destination of uncertain objects is piled with garbage, the quality is extremely poor, and very little of it is actually useful.
It's nothing compared to the deadbeat singer.
But this did not dampen Xing's spirits.
Finding useful treasures in real trash makes Star feel more accomplished.
Xing never cared about the value of the treasures; rather, he valued the process of finding them—that was true exploration.
"Steel pipes, iron frames, Huaifeng said he needs some scrap iron as the foundation for the ship, put them away."
"This doll seems to be just dirty. Let's wash it and give it to March."
"If we fix the other three legs of this table, it should fit perfectly on the ship."
"Nautical map? Good stuff, it'll definitely be useful."
"Hmm, this clock seems to be only slightly broken."
Xing rummaged through the trash and found some more parts. He repaired the clock on the spot and put it into the ticket compartment with satisfaction.
It was a great haul. Once I get back and post it on the website, plenty of people will be willing to buy these pieces of trash that I picked up.
These are souvenirs brought back by nameless travelers exploring a new world; they're incredibly valuable collectibles!
No matter how much trash a celebrity picks up, it's not enough to cover the hundreds of billions or even trillions of dollars in revenue from their fans.
"Get out of here, this is our territory!"
A rather childish voice rang out. Xing turned her head and saw two children, around ten years old, standing not far away, each holding a steel pipe and looking at her with feigned ferocity.
"Your territory? Do you think these trash would even respond if you called out to them?" Xing said with a sneer.
Even I, the king of trash cans, haven't declared all the world's trash to be mine, so what right do you have to carve out your territory?
