Chapter 243 The Portal Opens
Chapter 243 The Teleportation Portal Opens (Fifth Update)
The expansion project of the abandoned town workshop never stopped during this month.
Under Chen Yu's explicit instructions and the highest priority resource allocation by the "manager," large quantities of building materials, energy cores, precision processing equipment, and skilled workers were continuously sent to the abandoned town. The workshop area, which was originally just a temporary outpost, was completely razed and rebuilt.
A month later, a brand-new, large-scale laboratory complex rose from the ground on the site of the abandoned town.
Its style blends the solidity of the Mechanicus with the practicality of local materials, resulting in an exceptionally robust overall structure capable of withstanding direct hits from heavy weapons.
The interior space is strictly divided into different functional areas: the main control center, energy array, life support area, weapons testing range, biological sample analysis room, and the most core—the large teleportation portal placement hall.
The newly built portal placement hall is thirty meters high and covers a vast area.
In the center of the hall is a huge ring structure made of superconducting metal and special crystals. Its surface is engraved with complex energy-conducting patterns and is connected to the dimensional teleporter that Chen Yu carries with him.
Countless thick energy pipelines, like giant pythons, extend from the surrounding walls and ground, connecting to various interfaces on the ring-shaped base.
The entire hall was filled with a powerful energy field, and the air was filled with a faint smell of ozone and the aura of ionized metal.
On the day the main structure of the laboratory was completed, Chen Yu left his temporary residence in Night City and returned to this fortress that belonged to him.
Without the slightest delay, he immediately directed the servants and engineers to precisely install the dimension teleporter, which was in a securely sealed state, at the core of the large teleportation gate array.
Installation, debugging, energy injection... a series of complex and precise operations were completed efficiently under Chen Yu's direct control.
After all physical connections and energy circuits were confirmed to be connected, Chen Yu did not immediately initiate cross-dimensional teleportation.
He first performed a complete system self-check, with massive data streams being exchanged at high speed between his processing core and the portal control system, verifying the status of tens of thousands of nodes.
After confirming that everything was correct, he activated the low-power operation mode.
The ring structure began to emit a low hum, and a dark blue light flowed through the patterns, but it did not form a complete portal.
Chen Yu closely monitors the energy fluctuation curve, spatial stability readings, and structural stress data.
He conducted several brief tests of micro-space disturbances that did not point to any specific coordinates to verify the system's response speed and control accuracy.
The entire process lasted about thirty minutes, ensuring that every aspect of this newly built large-scale equipment was under absolute control and in optimal condition.
Ultimately, all preliminary tests passed.
Chen Yu issued the official start order.
The energy output instantly increased to the predetermined level, and the space in the center of the ring structure was torn and twisted by the powerful force. The dark blue light condensed and rotated, eventually forming a huge vortex with a diameter of more than 20 meters that rotated stably.
Inside the vortex, light and shadow distorted, as if connecting to an unknowable abyss, and the powerful spatial disturbances made the air in the hall seem to tremble slightly.
Chen Yu's crimson optical lens stared intently at the portal, while the processing core monitored every energy reading.
Stability has reached the expected threshold.
He sent a crossing command to the Nearl family team, who were already waiting on the other side of the Death World base, via an encrypted data link.
The next moment, a massive energy surge erupted from the center of the portal. The first to pass through was the "Nemesis" type patrol knight piloted by Manna Nearl.
The steel giant, nearly twelve meters tall, stepped out of the dark blue vortex, its heavy metal feet landing on the specially reinforced floor of the hall with a dull, thud like the pounding of a giant hammer.
Its fuselage features sharp lines and heavy armor. The Hades siege claws are folded at the sides, and its massive size and menacing aura instantly fill a large area of space.
Immediately afterwards, Margaret Nearl's "Lancer" type Horned Knight leaped out with a graceful posture. Her body was relatively slender, and she held the impact lance horizontally in her hand, with the ion shield generator glowing slightly on her shoulder.
Next up is Maria Nearl's "Punisher" type Horned Knight, whose heavy bomb cannons and storm blades highlight its role as a fire support.
Finally, there's Zofia's "instructor" type patrol knight, whose well-balanced equipment, including a pulse laser cannon and a chainsaw sword, indicates her versatile battlefield role.
Four knight mechs, like titans straight out of mythology, stood tall in the spacious teleportation hall.
Behind them, the ten attendant-class mechs and some core members of the relic protection team also passed through the still fluctuating portal one by one.
The brief sensory deprivation and sense of temporal dislocation caused by the time travel quickly subsided. Inside the cockpit of the Knight Mech, Marna Nearl was the first to regain full spatial awareness.
As he started the scan, he asked in a low voice over the communication channel, "Margaret, Maria, Zofia, report your status."
"The machine is functioning normally." Margaret's voice carried a slight panting from the time travel.
“System self-check is normal.” Maria followed up.
"The attendant mech array is intact, and the maintenance team is assessing the situation," Zofia's voice was the calmest.
Only after receiving confirmation did Marner initiate an external environment scan.
Through the panoramic cockpit, he saw this hall filled with exotic technological style, the air filled with an energy and chemical smell that was completely different from the world of forging.
As the avian detector array scans, the data stream rapidly scrolls across the display screen.
“Environmental composition analysis shows that the nitrogen and oxygen ratio is close to the standard, with the presence of unknown trace compounds. Energy readings indicate abnormal background radiation levels, and a high-intensity, unknown-pattern energy field residue was detected.” He paused briefly, then added the most crucial structural assessment: “The building structure is assessed to standard, below the Imperial basic defense fortifications rating.”
"Target dimension confirmed." Marna's voice remained calm and steady. "Maintain defensive formation and await further instructions."
Margaret and Maria also completed the basic environmental scans around the same time.
Despite having received a detailed mission briefing beforehand, the impact of personally experiencing dimensional travel and truly stepping into another world far surpasses any description in words.
The young sisters' breathing quickened slightly in the cockpit. Their aircraft's sensors continuously transmitted data that was subtly different from their home world. The atmospheric composition contained unfamiliar industrial emissions residue, and the spectral characteristics of the environmental background radiation were also completely different.
Zofia's voice broke through their thoughts in the communication channel: "All personnel, maintain focus. Attendant mechs, deploy in the designated formation. Maintenance team, immediately begin a full overhaul, prioritizing the power core and weapon systems."
Her instructions were clear and efficient.
Under her command, ten attendant-class mechs quickly moved to strategic positions in the hall, forming a circular defensive line.
The relic protectors had already begun working around the four knight mechs, holding various ritual implements, chanting prayers to appease the mech spirits, and using specialized equipment to check for any minor damage that the mechs might have sustained during their journey.
