Chapter 191 Different Styles
Chapter 191 Different Styles (Fourth Update)
On the eastern front, facing the Amaterasu directional energy cannon array built by Arasaka on relatively open high ground, Colonel Hansen's Ghost Hound unit adopted typical regular army coordinated advance tactics.
The temporarily upgraded power armor was not used as a spearhead for isolated attacks, but was integrated into the overall offensive echelon.
Three power armored vehicles, serving as mobile fire support points, were deployed on the flanks and rear of the offensive front. Their massive bodies, crouching or relying on the terrain, provided continuous heavy fire support for the advancing infantry.
"All units, deploy in Alpha-3 formation! Power armor teams, prioritize taking out exposed enemy heavy machine gun positions and rocket launcher operators! Infantry squads, provide alternating cover and advance using shell craters and undulating terrain!" Hansen's orders were clearly communicated to each squad and platoon via tactical data link.
The defensive positions in Arasaka reacted immediately.
Security forces deployed around the perimeter of the formation used makeshift foxholes and bunkers made of engineering crates to mow down the charging Ghost Hound soldiers with dense automatic weapon fire.
Several pre-positioned firing points, with heavy machine guns spitting deadly flames, attempted to suppress the attack.
"Bang! Bang!" Within the Netherhound formation, soldiers equipped with new laser rifles began to fire precise shots.
The scarlet high-energy beam almost ignored the wind speed and instantly hit the target hundreds of meters away.
Even if the Arasaka soldiers are hiding behind cover, the laser can easily burn through the thin cover material or their armor, leaving charred, penetrating wounds.
At the same time, the power armor units at the rear opened fire.
Their shoulder-mounted automatic turrets emitted short, muffled roars, and 20mm armor-piercing high-explosive rounds landed precisely on the heavy machine gun positions on Arasaka, instantly tearing the cover, weapons, and gunners to shreds.
The lightweight laser cannon mounted on the arm continuously targets individual enemies that attempt to move or peek out to fire, and its high killing efficiency significantly reduces the impact pressure on infantry in front.
Arakasa's frontline commander clearly hadn't anticipated that the enemy's firepower would be so precise and deadly.
"Power armor! Where's our power armor? Push forward! Hold them off!" A furious roar came through the communication channel.
Several Arasaka standard-issue power armors started up from the rear of the position, their heavy footsteps shaking the ground.
They attempted to launch a counterattack, using their armor superiority to break through the Ghost Hounds' attack formation.
"Attention! Enemy power armor has appeared, four in number, facing forward!" The frontline observer immediately issued a warning.
"Power armor teams, intercept fire! Infantry, launch anti-tank rockets!" Hansen calmly ordered.
Two rockets, trailing white smoke, were launched from an infantry squad and hurtled toward the Arasaka power armor.
One of the powered armor units reacted quickly, using its arm armor to deflect one of the projectiles. The explosion only made it stagger, but the other projectile successfully hit its leg joint, immediately restricting its movement.
At that very moment, the firepower of the three power armors converged simultaneously.
Armor-piercing rounds from automatic cannons, the continuous burning from laser cannons, and specially equipped small-caliber armor-piercing rockets rained down on the Arasaka power armors.
The pilots of the Arasaka power armor were horrified to discover that the enemy's firepower far exceeded their expectations. Their armor was rapidly damaged under the continuous bombardment, with the joints being particularly vulnerable. Most critically, the Ghost Hound's power armor seemed to possess some kind of additional protection—their attacks were often deflected or had some of their kinetic energy weakened by a faint, rippling blue aura before they even hit.
"They have shields! Our attacks are ineffective!" an Arasaka power armor pilot cried out desperately into the communications channel. This is the difference in technological capabilities.
The makeshift kinetic shield, though not completely able to withstand direct hits from heavy weapons, is extremely effective against small-caliber machine gun and rifle rounds, greatly enhancing the survivability of the Ghosthound's power armor.
One of the Arasaka power armors had its legs broken by concentrated fire, collapsed to the ground, and was subsequently destroyed by follow-up fire.
Another unit attempted to charge, but was blinded by a continuous barrage of precise laser beams targeting its head sensor array and was quickly destroyed, leaving it helpless. The remaining two units, seeing the situation was dire, tried to retreat, but were penetrated from behind by pursuing fire.
Having dealt with the enemy's power armor counterattack, the Hound's offensive became even more resolute.
Under the cover of power armor and precision laser fire, infantry squads quickly cleared out the remaining infantry resistance, using grenades and assault rifles to eliminate the enemies behind cover one by one.
"Advance! Target: 'Amaterasu' array energy core and control system!" Hansen's order came through.
The troops surged up the high ground like a tide.
Under the cover of their power armor, the engineers quickly approached the Amaterasu gun crews, which were accumulating energy and emitting a piercing buzz.
They placed high explosives at key points and then quickly evacuated.
"Prepare for demolition! Three, two, one, detonate!"
A series of loud explosions came from the high ground, and dazzling flames engulfed the massive directional energy cannon assembly.
The massive metal structure twisted and disintegrated in the explosion, with burning debris flying in all directions with a whooshing sound.
The "Amaterasu" formation, which Arasaka had high hopes for, was completely destroyed by the Ghost Dogs' standard infantry-tank coordinated, layer-by-layer tactics before it could unleash its full power.
Colonel Hansen peered through his binoculars at the burning position, his single eye devoid of joy, only displaying the cold indifference of someone who had accomplished their mission: "Clear the battlefield, tally the casualties. Report to command that the eastern front has been cleared."

At the commanding heights of the western coast, the Lhasa Road mercenary squad's style of operation is completely different from that of the Ghost Hounds.
The five "Assault Team-VII" power armors, each with a different paint scheme, did not form a tight formation.
Instead, upon receiving orders, they scattered like cheetahs smelling blood, using the powerful mobility of their power armor to launch an assault on the Takemikazuchi electromagnetic gun position from different directions, along the steepest and most difficult routes.
Their commander, codenamed "Butcher," gave only brief instructions over the communications channel: "Free hunting, prioritize destroying artillery and energy supplies. Resolve within thirty minutes."
A Lhasa Road powered armored vehicle chose the most direct, frontal route.
The auxiliary thrusters on his back started at full power, propelling the three-ton steel body at an astonishing speed toward the barbed wire and obstacles surrounding the Arasaka position.
The Arasaka soldiers fired bullets at him in terror, but the bullets only created ripples when they hit the kinetic shield in front of him, failing to stop it in the slightest.
"Anvil" didn't even use the shoulder cannon; instead, relying on its momentum, it smashed through the concrete roadblock with the shoulder armor equipped with ramming horns, then raised the multi-barrel rotary machine gun on its right arm and began firing at the Arasaka soldiers behind the cover.
The 12.7mm bullets rained down like the Grim Reaper's scythe, instantly turning that area into a sea of blood.
