Chapter 73 Hunting the Boar
Chapter 73 Hunting the Boar
Qin Ziwen slowly raised the spear in his hand, staring intently at the wild boar.
The wild boar was covered in mud, and its two large tusks stood like pillars reaching the sky.
It wasn't the wild boar I'd seen the previous two times, but it was still quite large, standing there like a black wall.
At a glance, it probably weighs at least three or four hundred pounds.
Zhao Pu said slowly, "There are many of us, this wild boar shouldn't dare to come."
Qin Ziwen felt an extra force on the spear in his hand.
Glancing to the right, Qin Ziwu, the younger brother, grabbed the spear shaft. "Brother, let me handle this. You guys go ahead later."
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Qin Ziwen pried open his younger brother's fingers. Qin Ziwu's fingers were pried open without any resistance. He was astonished to find that his older brother had become so strong.
Qin Ziwen held the spear in both hands, with the spearheads pointing forward.
"Hum~"
The wild boar let out a long bellow and then charged at Qin Ziwen from the slope.
We can't take it head-on. This guy, weighing several hundred pounds, is charging at us with the advantage of the terrain. If we try to take it head-on, we'll just get knocked away.
Qin Ziwen jumped to the right as the wild boar approached, avoiding its charge.
Seeing the boar's rump rush past him, Qin Ziwen thrust his spear, piercing the boar's rump.
The dull touch felt like being poked in old cowhide.
This was followed by a strong sense of resistance.
Stimulated, the wild boar's calls became even more ferocious.
With its four short, thick hooves exerting tremendous force, the spear that had pierced its buttocks slipped out unexpectedly.
Staring at the fierce look in the wild boar's eyes as it turned its head, Qin Ziwen's courage surged. He roared and thrust his spear hard into the wild boar's face.
The wild boar, which had just turned around, was caught off guard and pricked squarely.
The spear grazed the corner of the eye and pierced deep into the eye socket. There was a slight resistance at first, followed by a "slippery" sensation as it protruded two inches inward.
"wer~wer~" The wild boar suddenly let out a piercing scream, shaking its head wildly.
The immense force came from the other side of the spear shaft. He gripped the shaft tightly, but fortunately, it had some anti-slip texture and was wrapped with several strips of cloth to prevent him from slipping out of his hand.
The wild boar charged forward.
He braced himself against the spear shaft, shifting his weight forward, but the wild boar still pushed him backward, his feet scraping the ground and leaving a long scratch.
In the process, the spear pierced deeper and deeper.
The wild boar's strength was waning; though fierce, it was still a carbon-based creature. The spearhead pierced its eye, the more it moved, the more painful it became, and the deeper it went. It could only muster about 30% of its strength.
The wild boar stared at Qin Ziwen with its bloodshot single eye.
But a long spear separated the man and the pig, preventing it from charging forward or retreating.
With each step back, Qin Ziwen would step forward, bracing his spear against the ground.
Taking advantage of their unpreparedness, I gripped the spear tightly and pressed it in hard once more!
The wild boar slipped on the mud under its feet, fell to the ground with a thud, and let out a mournful cry.
"die!"
Qin Ziwen roared, wanting only to vent his inner tension and irritability. Fighting such a beast could easily result in serious injury or disability if he was not careful.
He gripped the spear with both hands and pressed down hard. The wild boar kicked wildly with its four legs. On the slippery mud, the wild boar swayed and almost kicked him in the leg.
Qin Ziwu shouted and smashed a stone near the wild boar's ear.
The large blue stone made a muffled thud.
Deng Guang and Zhao Pu stepped forward and looked at the wild boar struggling desperately, kicking its legs wildly. The two dared not put their kitchen knives close to their faces, because if they were kicked, they would probably have to rest for at least half a month.
Deng Guang used a stick to hit the wild boar, but for the thick-skinned wild boar covered in a layer of mud, the blunt blows from the stick were ineffective. The most fatal blow was the long spear stuck in its head.
Zhao Pu raised his spear and thrust it down, the spear piercing the wild boar's abdomen near its heart. "You actually managed to stick that wooden stick in there," Deng Guang said, somewhat surprised.
Zhao Pu gripped the spear tightly in his hand, saying, "I sharpened it and then heated it with fire. Now the spearhead is carbonized and harder than ordinary wood."
With the combined efforts of the four people, the wild boar was still struggling, but its strength was waning.
Finally, it lay on the ground and stopped struggling.
Qin Ziwen took out his spear and thrust it heavily into the wild boar's neck.
It was clearly lifeless.
"It's solved." Qin Ziwen breathed a sigh of relief, only then realizing that his back was soaked with sweat.
Those few minutes felt like an hour to him.
My arms are sore and swollen. I look at my palms and they are bright red with white marks that haven't faded yet.
“But now there’s a problem: how do we get this wild boar back?” Deng Guang looked at the others.
Qin Ziwen said, "Carrying it back is probably not an option. Even if the four of us work together, we can't carry it too far. Dragging it on the ground would be easier, but this road isn't flat. Some places are small ravines, requiring us to go up and down slopes. If we go around the slopes, we'll have to take a long way."
Zhao Pu said, "Perhaps we can build a vine net, put the wild boars on it, and then take turns dragging them back."
Qin Ziwu frowned: "Why don't we divide it into several smaller pieces, so it'll be easier to pack some?"
Zhao Pu said, "Then we'll have to dissect the body here. The smell of blood is too strong and might attract other wild animals."
The four people shared their ideas.
But all these ideas had one thing in common: no one suggested giving up the wild boar.
If we can bring such a big wild boar back and share it with everyone, we probably won't have to worry about food for the next two weeks.
Qin Ziwen said, "The smell of blood isn't the most important thing. The main problem is that none of us know how to cook pigs, and we don't have any special knives."
Deng Guang looked at the kitchen knife in his hand. If it was for cutting meat, it might be fine.
But if used to divide pigs, the blade would probably be dulled very quickly.
The four men were puzzled by the wild boar.
Qin Ziwen let out a long breath. "Let's dismember it. Brother Deng, Dr. Zhao, you can use your cleavers. I'll get you another one when we get back. The sooner we dismember the pig, the sooner we can get back, otherwise it'll be dark."
Without further ado, they set off. Their location wasn't far from the stream, and the four of them worked together to drag the wild boar to the stream bank, where they began to butcher it.
The kitchen knife wasn't a dedicated boning knife; when dismembering the wild boar, it would frequently hit the bones, and the blade quickly became dull.
While sharpening his knife on the bluestone by the stream, he cut and sliced the meat.
Some low-value or inconvenient-to-carry parts were discarded.
Apart from the heart, liver, and lungs, all other internal organs are discarded.
Then comes the pig's head and pig's trotters.
These parts can be delicious if prepared properly, but they are mostly bone with little meat and lack spices. Most importantly, they are easy to cut.
In the end, only the pig's body, with its internal organs removed, remained.
Even so, there were still about 200 kilograms left.
Zhao Pu found some pieces of wood nearby and some vines by the stream. He cut the vines and wove them into a grid to make a simple net.
I cut the wild boar in half with a knife and put the half on the net. That made things much easier.
They then made a second net using the same method, and two hours had passed by the time they finished.
There are real video examples of hunting wild boar with a spear; having a spear makes a world of difference compared to hunting bare-handed.
