Chapter 50 Answer
"question?"

Yang Chen turned around and looked at the two of them with a puzzled expression.

"What's going on in the village?"

Hong Kou quickly waved his hand: "No, no, no, it's actually about you and your wife."

"Me and Yue Kui?"

Yang Chen recalled what Bai Yuekui had told him a few days ago: Hong Kou and Po Xiao seemed curious about their identities and had even asked ASH.

"If it's inconvenient, then forget it." Hong Kou regretted asking the question as soon as she did.

Strictly speaking, they are still outsiders, so asking about their background in this way is indeed inappropriate.

"It's alright, tell me, what do you want to know?" Yang Chen said calmly, looking at Hong Kou and Po Xiao with an open gaze.

"I will not hide anything from you that I can tell you."

Hong Kou and Po Xiao exchanged a glance, took a deep breath, and asked the question that had been lingering in her mind for a long time.

"Mr. Yang, are you and Miss Yue Kui... have you... lived from the old world until now?"

As soon as the question was raised, Hong Kou and Po Xiao held their breath and stared intently at Yang Chen's face.

Yang Chen didn't seem surprised by the question. His eyes were calm, and there was even a faint, understanding smile on his lips.

He slowly opened his mouth and said, "Yue Kui is, I am not."

This answer was concise yet packed with information, leaving both Redhead and Dawn visibly stunned.

The phrase "Yue Kui is" directly confirms that Bai Yue Kui is an immortal being, suggesting that the technology of the old world may be more advanced than they imagined.

Even technologies that allow people to live so long and maintain a youthful appearance exist.

"Then, Mr. Yang, you..." Hong Kou wanted to ask Yang Chen how he had lived for so long, but she changed her mind before she could finish her sentence.

"Was it you who saved us before?"

“When we were attacked by the Earth Roar, a ball of fire appeared out of nowhere and blocked all the attacks. That fire was very similar to the one you showed not long ago.”

On that occasion, a horde of Devouring Beasts suddenly roared out of the ruins, and deadly energy blasts were about to hit the convoy.

Just when things were at their most critical, a blazing flame, so hot it almost distorted the air, appeared out of nowhere, precisely intercepting all the attacks and saving the entire Hunter Squad.

When the two encountered the Devouring Beasts during their journey, it was Yang Chen who appeared and burned the group of Devouring Beasts to ashes.

Upon hearing this, Yang Chen frowned slightly, as if recalling something.

Earth roar?

Is there such a thing?
A few seconds later, as if he remembered something, his brows relaxed, and a look of understanding flashed in his eyes.

“Oh, that time…” he said in a flat tone, as if he were talking about a trivial matter.

"At the time, I happened to be testing his potential with the village's awakened practitioners nearby, and when I saw you, I just lent a hand."

"You were probably piloting a black gravity vehicle back then, weren't you?"

As the commander of the Hunters, Hong Kou is responsible and has rich combat experience.

Once he realizes his potential, he might be able to lead the other awakened practitioners in the village.

"really."

Hong Kou finally confirmed the question that had been lingering in her mind: the Devouring Beast skeleton she had seen on the ground was probably also made by Yang Chen.

Hong Kou straightened up and bowed slightly to Yang Chen.

"Thank you for saving us earlier; otherwise, my team members would likely have suffered heavy losses."

Seeing Hong Kou's serious demeanor, Yang Chen quickly raised his hand to offer a helping hand.

"Hey, no need to be so formal, it was just a small favor, we just happened to run into each other."

“But…” Hong Kou straightened up, still wanting to express the weight of this life-saving grace in her heart.

“There’s no ‘buts’,” Yang Chen interrupted her.

"Thank you so much. I'll study hard in the village from now on. You guys are great." He smiled.

"Once I awaken my potential, I can become a commander of the Awakened Ones."

"I don't know if I have the ability to do this," Hong Kou said with shame. "But I will definitely repay you with my actions."

Yang Chen smiled and said, "It's alright, we can take it slow."

"It's lunchtime now, if you have any questions, we can talk while we eat," Yang Chen pointed to a restaurant in the distance. "Yue Kui and I haven't eaten yet either, want to join us?"

“Alright, then I’ll gladly accept your offer.” Hong Kou nodded.

The cold metallic sheen reflected off the monotonous gray of the canteen atop the lighthouse.

The canteen was empty and deserted in the afternoon, with only a few city defense soldiers and hunters on their days off sitting scattered around, swallowing the nutritional paste and bread pieces on their plates.

Mark sat alone on a bench in the corner, his plate already empty.

He lowered his head, staring blankly at the slightly worn iron box in his palm.

This was something Elon gave him after Red Bandit's departure, saying it was left behind by Red Bandit.

He carefully opened the box, and inside lay a slightly yellowed cardboard photograph.

There were also two brightly colored lollipops wrapped in transparent candy wrappers.

In the photo, Red Cop is smiling, wearing a red beret and an old-world military uniform.

Mark took the photo down; on the back were three small characters written in Hong Kou's strong handwriting.

'Survive'
Mark's fingers gently traced his sister's cheek in the photo, feeling the rough texture of the cardboard against his fingertips.

The image of Hong Kou shaking his head and forcing a smile as the elevator platform sank was etched into his mind like a brand.

He picked up one of the lollipops.

He remembered that every time Hong Kou returned from the ground, he would magically produce all sorts of things from his pockets.

“Sister…” Mark called out softly.

Just as Mark was trying to hold back his tears and put the photos and candy back into the tin box, a tall figure stopped beside his desk, blocking out some of the light.

Mark subconsciously looked up.

It is Xuefeng.

This former Red Bandit member is now a key member of the Hunters team.

His face showed exhaustion and an undeniable heaviness.

He had just finished training, and beads of sweat were on his forehead.

Upon seeing the tin box and photos in Mark's hand, Xuefeng's expression instantly became complicated.

He didn't say anything, but silently placed the bottle of milk he had just redeemed with donation points—a luxury item in the Lighthouse—on the table in front of Mark.

The bottom of the glass bottle collided with the metal tabletop, producing a crisp yet abrupt soft sound.

“Just because Hongkou isn’t here doesn’t mean you can stop drinking milk. Drinking milk is good for your growth.”

Mark looked at the bottle of milk, then looked up at the snow-capped peak.

Xuefeng's gaze swept over Mark's slightly red eyes and the iron box in his hand, finally settling on the photograph.

"Was this left to you by the captain?"

Mark nodded.

Xuefeng was silent for a few seconds, seemingly organizing his thoughts.

He pulled out the chair opposite Mark and sat down; the sound of the metal chair legs scraping against the floor was somewhat jarring in the empty cafeteria.

"You know what happens when you go to the surface without any supplies, right?"

Mark remained silent, not saying a word, just staring at the metal box in his hand.

After a long pause, Mark spoke up: "What if... what if Hong Kou is still alive?"

This time it was Xuefeng's turn to be silent. He really didn't want to discourage Mark, but he also didn't want Mark to continue fantasizing like this.

Just then, a little girl with short, silver-white hair snatched the tin box from Mark's hand, breaking the brief silence.

"Is the person in the photo the Hong Kou you've been talking about all this time?"
