Lu Mingfei, become the King of Elden!
Chapter 47 Equipment Department
Chapter 47 Equipment Department
Lu Mingfei's heart sank.
The Board of Trustees doesn't have a very good reputation within Kassel College. Thanks to the Night Watchers Forum, established by the Vice-Principal "The Night Watcher," students have always been willing to say anything there.
Lu Mingfei once came across an anonymous post titled "The Seven Deadly Sins of the Board of Trustees," which listed various behaviors ranging from "interfering with executive department tasks" and "attempting to cancel the women's swimming competition" to "embezzling club funds."
His record is truly appalling, his record is truly appalling!
However, his bloodline issue should have been resolved after the "Bronze Project" ended, so why is the board of directors still so concerned about his affairs?
He silently followed the professor, passing through the glass-domed corridor of the No. 1 dining hall, and arrived at a hidden corner in front of a building that resembled a toilet.
Lu Mingfei looked puzzled, but Guderian calmly tapped several bricks on the wall in order, and then a highly technological panel appeared.
"Oh oh oh oh oh oh."
Lu Mingfei widened his eyes and pointed ahead, saying:
"What kind of door opening is this, Professor? Is it Diagon Alley?"
"It's just iris verification," Guderian said nonchalantly, seemingly used to it. "Something the Equipment Department came up with."
They entered a very heavy, square elevator and descended for a long time before finally arriving at their destination.
The elevator doors slowly opened, revealing a vast underground space filled with futuristic technology. The surrounding walls were covered with flashing indicator lights and a complex network of pipes.
Lu Mingfei's eyes widened; the scene before him reminded him of a secret base in a science fiction movie.
Welcome to Watt Alheim.
Professor Guderian patted him on the shoulder:
"This is the core area of the Equipment Department, where the academy's most advanced technologies and equipment are developed."
Before Lu Mingfei could respond, a strange figure appeared out of nowhere and stood in front of him.
The person who arrived was wearing a heavy, fully enclosed biochemical protective suit, rubber boots, and protective goggles. He also had a ventilator and portable oxygen tubes.
"You must be our 'S-class' Lu Mingfei, right?"
The person who came warmly extended their hand.
Huff—hiss—Huff—hiss—
Amidst his heavy breathing, Lu Mingfei shook his hand while trying to make out his face through his protective goggles:
"Hello."
“I am Deputy Director Carl, and I have come here specifically to pick you up.”
The person came said.
Lu Mingfei looked flattered:
"So it's the deputy director. Thank you for coming to pick me up, you're too kind."
Deputy Director Carl shook his head:
"You are the only S-class candidate in all these years, an extremely valuable experimental subject, and deserve my warm welcome. Hearing that you were coming, we specially brought out all the testing equipment we hadn't used before."
Lu Mingfei swallowed hard, a vague sense of foreboding creeping into his heart.
He followed Deputy Director Carl, who was wrapped up as if he had just crawled out of Chernobyl, as they walked unsteadily through the passageway filled with steampunk style and futuristic technology.
The pipes roared overhead, and an unidentified liquid gurgled and shimmered with fluorescence inside a transparent reinforced glass tube.
"what is that?"
Lu Mingfei pointed to his head and asked in confusion.
“That,” Deputy Director Carl explained unhurriedly, “is just decoration.”
"What?" Lu Mingfei was a little confused.
"Decorations, decorations, including the lobby you just saw, are all just decorations. Don't you think this style of decoration is more in line with the image of the Equipment Department?"
Deputy Director Carl gave him a thumbs up.
What a load of rubbish!
Lu Mingfei shouted in his heart.
The character design is completely off, okay? Shouldn't you be portrayed as mad scientists? No, wait... it seems, perhaps, maybe, it actually fits the bill?
Lu Mingfei's unease grew even stronger.
"Um, Deputy Director, will the testing be very complicated? How long will it take?"
Lu Mingfei tried to catch a glimpse of the other person's eyes through their blurry protective goggles, but failed.
"Complex? No, no, no, S-rank!"
Karl's voice, coming through the breathing mask, carried a strange buzzing sound and sounded unusually excited:
"We strive for the perfect balance between efficiency and safety! As for time? That depends on how many surprises your pedigree can bring us, and how long the equipment can last!"
He patted a thick, silver pipe next to him:
"Don't worry, we've activated Titanic-level protection this time! Even if you suddenly transform into a first-generation creature, theoretically you can last, well, 3.7 seconds!"
Lu Mingfei suppressed the urge to complain. There were just too many things to complain about, and he didn't know where to start.
They eventually arrived at a huge space resembling an indoor sports arena, but the floor and some walls were covered with thick energy-absorbing material, and the surrounding area was filled with high-speed cameras, laser grids, and various sensors whose names they did not know.
In the center of the venue stood a lone scale that looked like an oversized one with restraints. Next to it stood a cylinder covered with sensor pads and a sealed chamber with a complex internal structure, encased in a thick, transparent material.
Outside the glass wall stood seven or eight figures, all fully armed and wearing the same "doomsday survival" suits, pointing and gesturing at him through the glass. One of them was adjusting a hydraulic device that looked like it could lift an elephant, emitting a dull inflating sound.
"Come on, S-rank! Warm-up!"
Deputy Director Carl pointed to the oversized weighing scale:
"Stand up! Relax! We're going to precisely measure your... well, mass distribution!"
Lu Mingfei gritted his teeth and stepped onto the "scale." As soon as his feet touched the ground, several flexible restraints popped out from the edge, instantly fixing him into a slightly comical standing position.
"Basic quality scan initiated!"
Carl's voice came through the built-in speaker, carrying a strange solemnity, as if he had just sworn an oath about a rocket launch.
hum-
The platform beneath his feet emitted a low hum, and countless tiny laser beams swept across Lu Mingfei's entire body. A soft yet highly noticeable light also shone inside his helmet, accompanied by a slight crackling sound of electricity.
Lu Mingfei felt like a salted fish being scanned at a supermarket checkout counter.
"Wow, that muscle density! Far exceeding the average for Grade A! And the bone strength... wow, Commissioner Lu, did you grow up drinking dragon milk?" a researcher exclaimed in amazement.
Lu Mingfei thought to himself, "What kind of dragon milk am I drinking?! I'm drinking the dewdrop chalice from the borderlands!"
However, after returning from the border region, his body did indeed possess some of the characteristics of the Faded Ones, but only a portion of them.
He had a guess.
Perhaps the two worlds actually use the same body, but because of the different rules of the worlds, they manifest in different ways.
