Chapter 6 Far ahead

Chapter 6 Far ahead
Indeed, the Mustang Shelby is a standard muscle car with a powerful engine, but it also suffers from the drawbacks that all large-displacement engines cannot avoid:

The engine is heavy and prone to understeer in corners. Without excellent driving skills, the steering wheel traction may become unresponsive in corners.

Right now, the Mustang Shelby is a perfect example.

"Damn it!"

Matteo's forehead was covered in a fine layer of sweat, his heart was pounding, and all he could do was swerve the steering wheel and call upon the Virgin Mary.

at last!

Just as it was about to crash into the flowerbed, the traction returned, and the Mustang Shelby staggered into the bend. However, the violently shaking body missed the best exit point, and the beast's roar immediately subsided, almost disappearing. It was visibly clear that the Mustang Shelby's vitality was fading.

All of this was within Lu Zhizhou's calculations.

But then, he stayed close to the inside line, creating space, and the moment the front of the car swerved out of the curve, he floored the accelerator, and for the first time, the roar of the kitten drowned out the Mustang Shelby.

Incredibly, the Mini Cooper unleashed astonishing energy, its rear end swinging out in a precise arc. Still some distance from the Mustang Shelby, it pulled ahead of the Mustang Shelby's front end, entering a straight line with perfect precision, smoothly releasing all its speed and leaving the space in its dust.

"My God, Mini Cooper can actually widen the gap!"

"Textbook-level cornering!"

"Wow, is that really a mini Cooper?"

The crowd erupted in screams and cheers, momentarily forgetting the stakes and immersing themselves in the frenzy of speed and passion.

Matteo went mad, completely mad. Amidst the roar of the engine, his reason was utterly consumed. He recklessly floored the accelerator, flames spewing from the exhaust pipe, pulling the swaying car back onto the right track and propelling it forward. He charged toward Mini Cooper's tail in a suicidal manner, ready to crush the little cat with his wheels.

However, Lu Zhizhou was not surprised at all—

The same trick will be much less effective the second time.

A right bend lay ahead. Lu Zhizhou quickly turned the steering wheel fully with his left hand, and the Mini Cooper slid outwards, its body scraping against the coffee shop sign on the side of the road, sparks flying. He lightly touched the accelerator with his right foot to control the car's posture, but hesitated to step on the brake, steadily maintaining a speed of 75 kilometers per hour as he entered the bend.

Wait a moment.

Wait a little longer!

This time, Lu Zhizhou chose to brake half a second later, waiting for the entire front of the Mini Cooper to enter the curve.

Accelerator, brake, clutch.

In the limited space of narrow alleys and long streets, maintaining 100% composure at top speed, controlling the car with millimeter-level precision, a series of smooth and seamless movements, the car turns on the outside of the curve, the tail light and agile in keeping up with the rhythm, watching the Mustang Shelby getting closer and closer, seemingly about to crash into him at any moment.

But Mini Cooper's tail, light and agile, kept its distance, using the outer edge to gain room to maneuver, keeping the furious Matteo hanging like a carrot dangling in front of a mule.

The roaring wild horse Shelby never crashed into them.

Then, Lu Zhizhou used his left hand to control the steering wheel, pulling the swaying and disoriented front of the car back. With a quick press of the accelerator, he brought the rear of the car up. His smooth and skillful maneuvering perfectly seized the opportunity, and the unruly vehicle was under his control. Only a fleeting navy blue afterimage remained before it melted into the colorful night.

Moving clouds and flowing water!

A pure visual treat.

But only Lu Zhizhou knew that the Mini Cooper had been nearing its limit during the recent series of bends.

The engine roared with a high-frequency vibration, the front suspension sluggish under continuous heavy load, and the rear of the car experienced an almost imperceptible undulation during the drift, like a cat's tail suddenly bristling.

The brake disc temperature was approaching the warning line, and the tires were rubbing wildly on bumpy roads made of different materials, frantically testing the critical point of operating temperature.

Lu Zhizhou noticed all of this. Just like walking on a tightrope high in the sky, the slightest hesitation or deviation could lead to a fall into the abyss.

However, he did not hesitate.

Like dancing wildly on a knife's edge, roaming freely amidst limits and crises, completely immersed, not just driving the vehicle, but listening and feeling it closely, the mechanical roars like a symphony, exhilaratingly exploring the full potential of the car in hand.

They sped away.

Matteo didn't understand what was happening. He had pushed his speed to the limit and was about to crash into the Mini Cooper and crush it. The Mini Cooper would have no chance to fight back. But he just couldn't catch up with it in the last little bit of distance. He could only follow the Mini Cooper's headlights and eat its exhaust fumes.

The next second, the mini Cooper disappeared from sight, and Matteo realized he was turning. He instinctively turned the steering wheel to its maximum, but it was too late.

He initially had the advantage in the inside lane, but he completely wasted his lane, and then—

Push the head, a second time in a row.

This time, Matteo wasn't so lucky. Her Mustang Shelby's tail swung violently at nearly 100 kilometers per hour, crashing into a roadside trash can. Amidst the clanging and banging, the vehicle seemed to be on the verge of losing control, like a wild beast invading a residential area. The whole world shook, and the spectators on both sides of the narrow alley screamed in alarm, even disturbing the residents who were fast asleep, and the sound of dogs barking rang out.

Amid the chaos, Matteo looked up and watched the taillights of the Mini Cooper disappear into the distance, his mind blank, even forgetting to swear.

Kevor Place was completely silent, everyone strained to listen intently as live streams from every corner came through their phones.

Todd straightened his back, took two steps forward, and looked towards People's Square. This was the last challenge of the night's race.

There, the circular track is known for its slippery cobblestone surface and wide turning space. Tonight, a light rain made the cobblestones even more dangerous. The continuous high-speed curves of the circular track are the ultimate test of a driver's courage and the vehicle's grip. A slight mistake can lead to a skid and loss of control.

A small mistake could wipe out the advantage that Mini Cooper had built up on the consecutive corners.

"Mini Cooper is here!"

"How did he do that? On the cobblestone road, the vehicle moved as if it were flat ground, without shaking at all?"

"For the first high-speed left turn, the Mini Cooper chose the classic outside-inside-outside route. Braking early, the car slightly skidded but firmly gripped the inside. With the accelerator floored, the Mini Cooper shot out like a bullet, not only without slowing down but even accelerating to at least 95 kilometers per hour, passing through effortlessly."

"Who said the Mustang Shelby was going to win for sure? Doesn't that make you feel ashamed?"

"Wow, the throttle control, the balance control!"

"The Mini Cooper is gliding through the corner in a semi-drift state, the rear wheels gently swaying and quickly straightening, using the minimum track to cut the corner, wasting no space or time. The rhythm of the tail swing is perfect, the whole corner is smooth and fluid, even smoother than the Spanish Steps ahead..."

Without warning, the live broadcast on the cell phone and walkie-talkie stopped, leaving only silence.

No, it's not completely quiet.

Through the audio, one can faintly capture those trivial sounds: the fine friction of tires and pebbles, like chalk scratching a blackboard; the steady roar of the turbine, like a heartbeat; the silky smooth sound lightly cutting through the night sky; and the countless stars cascading down like a waterfall.

That is pure art.

Language is unnecessary, because it pales in comparison; no matter how ornate or dazzling the words, they cannot convey the perfect fusion of power and technology.

Then, the sounds gradually faded into the distance until they disappeared completely.

The People's Square circular road, which should have been difficult, challenging, and tricky, was completed effortlessly, without even leaving time to react.

Silence fell.
