Chapter 43 Generous Assistance

Chapter 43 Generous Assistance
In the dream, within the city of High Rock.

The Nightshade Legion is engaged in a fierce battle with the demons.

The original "Battle of the Ancient High Rock" did not include demons and heretics. Therefore, these disgusting monsters were undoubtedly summoned from the dream by the mastermind to prevent them from getting close to the ritual site.

This made the legionary soldiers even more eager to fight: We will soon pierce the heart of this hellish place with our swords!

However, what made them feel even more at ease was the support and assistance from Lord Rein.

Raine possesses extremely powerful life magic, which can quickly restore the combat ability of wounded Imperial soldiers who have been forced to leave the battlefield. This alone is enough to earn him everyone's respect.

At the same time, he can also occasionally cast some strange spells, which have extremely magical effects on the battlefield.

For example, when a Wrathful Demon charges, you can cast a Frost spell into the pool of blood beneath its feet to freeze it, causing the Demon to slip during the charge. Or, when a Shapeshifter is wielding a spiked whip or casting a spell, you can suddenly shoot out a Mage's Hand, grab its slender leg, and flip it to the ground.

Each spell had no actual killing effect, yet it always managed to turn the tide of battle at crucial moments, to the point that the soldiers of the legion developed an unconscious trust in him, and even took the initiative to come to him to ask "what to do next".

Military judge Parrot observed from the sidelines, his mind filled with astonishment.

He was an expert in battle formation command, but only in close-quarters positional warfare. He knew nothing about how legions could coordinate with mages, so he simply handed over the decision-making power to Raine and focused on assisting in command.

The Nightmare Legion stormed from inside the city all the way to the gates of High Keep, only to find that the drawbridge had already been raised.

In other words, the only options were to fill the moat with earth and stones, or to use long siege ladders to cross it... but both of these methods would obviously take a lot of time, so everyone turned to Raine for help once again.

“Wait a moment, let me prepare a spell,” Raine said. “Bring me the sword.”

Everyone immediately felt relieved. There was more magic; that made things much easier.

Military Judge Parrot eagerly presented him with a longsword. Raine took it, held it in his hand, and casually pointed it forward.

The suspension bridge collapsed with a crash.

The legionary soldiers rushed forward and saw that both anchor cables that had been used to lower the drawbridge had broken.

How did you do it?
Never mind, let's just charge in first!

Raine finally stepped into the castle hall and saw the legionary soldiers besieging a gigantic demon.

The demons here are clearly just projections, constantly spewing out large numbers of fireballs, accompanied by filthy words that cause one's head to split open.

The soldiers endured the omnipresent mental attacks, constantly running and dodging fireballs falling from the sky. When they couldn't dodge, they raised their shields above their heads, risking injury to withstand the explosions.

As Raine stepped into the hall, he saw the great demon roaring:

"You damned mortals! I will devour all your souls!"

“Raine!” Military Judge Parrot quickly inquired, “This devil is invulnerable to bullets and blades!”

“The projection of the devil cannot be killed,” Renn said, frowning. “Generally speaking, it can only be banished back to hell by its true name.”

"You lowly mortals!" The great demon unleashed a torrent of scorching flames at Renn and Parrot, but the two dodged behind a pillar in time, easily avoiding it. "You'll never guess my real name!"

“It doesn’t seem very intelligent, which eliminates most of the greater demons,” Ryan and Parrot explained from behind the pillar. “Demons are generally very clever; there are only a few stupid ones. Let me think…”

The howling demon instantly fell silent, quickly shutting its mouth and ceasing even its filthy chants.

“Fine, let’s try them one by one.” Renn, hiding behind a pillar, said loudly, “Kutisik Jarosel Polagria, I banish you!”

The great demon remained silent, only summoning meteor showers and fireballs that pounded the surrounding Nightmare soldiers, causing them immense suffering.

“Trofel Razmian Trugriffin, I banish you!” Renn continued to probe.

"Foolish mortal! Stop making fun of me!" The great demon let out a deafening laugh that seemed to shake the entire castle hall. "You don't even know my real name!" "That awful laugh, I knew it!" Renn also burst into laughter. "Delibich Kosedaren Larovliat! Go back to your hell!"

The great demon's laughter abruptly ceased, as if a duck had been choked. It wanted to unleash its most vicious and cruel evil magic to curse everyone present, but its figure had already been completely sucked into the sudden vortex and quickly disappeared into the castle hall.

Immediately afterwards, the entire dream began to disintegrate bit by bit.

----------

Upon waking, Raine slowly opened his eyes and saw that he was lying on the bed in the room.

Ellina stood with her back against the wall, arms crossed, eyes closed, feigning sleep; Bersalia sat on the edge of the bed, chewing something noisily.

"What are you eating?" Renn asked.

“Oh, you’re awake.” Bersalia turned around. “I’m having buttered oatmeal with fried shrimp. Would you like some?”

"How is the Nightmare Legion doing?" Raine had no interest in her saliva.

“It’s over,” Ellina said coldly from the doorway. “The heretics inside the castle have been killed. Also, the legion’s tribunal was with them and was killed by Berthalia when he tried to assassinate you.”

"By the way, how did you know the tribunal was an enemy spy?" Bersalia asked curiously.

“That’s not difficult.” Renn sat up in bed and said in a low voice, “The heretics won’t launch a large-scale operation for no reason. Attacking the Imperial Legion is a direct provocation against the Empire. There must be enough benefits for them to be willing to risk being wiped out afterward.”

"The only ones who can allow the heretics to hide in the Legion's territory undetected are either the Archons or the Military Judges. Considering that the Military Judges are trapped in the dream, it's most likely that one of the Archons has betrayed the heretics and wants to use this opportunity to eliminate the other so that he can seize power within the Legion."

"You guessed correctly." Ellina nodded slightly.

“So, whether it’s the legion commander or the tribunal who betrays them, they will worry that if the heretics are captured, they might betray them,” Bersalia said with a smile. “If you personally enter the dream and sabotage the heretics’ plans, then they will be unable to deal with you in the dream, and will naturally think of eliminating you in reality.”

"This will entice the traitor to take the risk and act as well," Ellina added.

Raine didn't respond, but looked out the window and asked:

"what time is it?"

“It’s evening,” Bersalia said. “The Nightmare Legion is having a victory banquet in the castle hall. The legion commander came to check on you earlier to make sure you were awake…”

Just then, there was another knock on the door.

Ellina went to open the door and found that the legion commander had come again to check on Rein's condition and had the legion soldiers bring over the food and wine from the banquet.

"Your Excellency Fahre, you're finally awake," he said warmly, a stark contrast to his cold demeanor when they first met. "Since I didn't know when you would wake up, I had the kitchen keep the food and drinks prepared for you warm. Please enjoy."

"How is the Legion doing?" Renn asked.

“Thanks to the gods, most of our brothers are safe.” The legion commander gestured for the soldiers to put down their food and leave the room. “Although some of them will never wake up again, at least the rest of us have been saved. We have to thank you for risking your life to provide life-saving support to our brothers trapped in the curse.”

"Excuse me, where is that traitorous tribunal?" Ellina suddenly asked.

“Albert is no longer our tribune.” The legion commander said solemnly, his face darkening. “I have packed up his body and the bodies of the heretics, as well as the irrefutable evidence we found in the basement, and sent them all to the capital. I believe His Majesty the Emperor will give him a fair and severe trial.”

“Hmm.” Raine nodded slightly and continued, “After eliminating the tribunal, the Nightshade Legion will belong to you alone, right?”

“I don’t understand what you mean, Your Excellency Fahre.” The legion commander once again put on a hearty and friendly smile.

“It doesn’t matter.” Ryan slowly got out of bed. “So, may I consider myself to have gained your sincere friendship?”

“Of course,” the legion commander said with a smile. “I, Claudius Pantorei, and the Eighth Nightstalker Legion of the Empire will forever remember your generous assistance.”
