Chapter 13 You Promised Me
Chapter 13 You Promised Me
From the perspective of the onlookers, this trial was truly full of twists and turns and full of excitement.
First, the two great shamans accused the Dragon Daughter of being an imposter, and then the nobles sent representatives to debate the scriptures, overturning the arguments of the two great shamans one by one.
Then one of the representatives suddenly betrayed them, immediately putting the nobles in a disadvantageous position.
Then the nobles presented evidence that the high priests had violated the precepts, attempting to force the two high shamans to sit down and negotiate.
As a result, the high priest ended up with both sides suffering heavy losses and dying together... with twists and turns, making the citizens who were watching the show extremely entertained.
Of course, the citizens didn't really care who the bad guy was in the end; they just wanted to see bloodshed.
Hang the High Priest! Hang the Dragon Daughter! You who are usually so high and mighty, now all of you are to be hanged!
The shouts of "Hang them!" grew louder and louder, and many lizardmen were shouting ecstatically when they were suddenly violently pushed aside.
Elrina, carrying her spear, silently pushed her way through the crowd. A twitching sea roach was still impaled on the spear, and tiny electric currents of magic constantly traveled up the shaft, maintaining the paralyzing control over the roach.
This is a master-level skill that can only be mastered after decades of immersion in lightning magic.
The red-robed monks who were blocking the square tried to stop her, but Ellina simply raised her foot and kicked out twice with lightning speed, hitting them precisely in the knees.
Stepping past the fallen red-robed monk servants, Elrina reached the center of the plaza. Ignoring the Dragon Valley City guards who had raised their weapons as if facing a formidable enemy, she tossed the sea cockroach from her spear to the ground and said calmly:
"The White Walkers have been captured."
Raine casually cast a slowing curse on the White Walker, and with an undisguised malicious grin, shouted loudly to those around him:
"The White Walkers, who nearly destroyed the world a thousand years ago, have now returned to the continent. If this isn't the end of the world, then what is?"
"That's right!" Dia shouted to the onlookers, "The White Walkers are about to reach Dragon Valley! Everyone, run!"
No one ran.
Everyone stared at her in astonishment, then at the White Walker slowly crawling on the ground.
what?
What is this?
Centurion Tarasha was the first to react, and quickly strode towards Dia.
He didn't care what the Others were; all he knew was that the lord's order was to capture the imposter Dragoness.
With a flick of his finger, Raine lifted the curse.
The sea cockroach, having broken free of its restraints, suddenly flipped over and landed on the ground. Using its slender legs, it leaped high into the air and pounced on Tarasha's face, which was closest to it.
Tarasha was on guard; he drew his sword, spun around, and swung it with enough force to sever a lizardman's neck.
The blade struck the sea cockroach's abdomen, but was stopped by its hard, scaly exoskeleton. The sea cockroach curled up, clutching the blade with its slender legs, until Tarasha's blade reached its end, then suddenly leaped up again, landing on his face.
Tarasha reached out his left hand and grabbed the sea cockroach's body, trying to tear it apart, but something hard had already pierced his mouth, and thick, hot liquid fell down his esophagus into his stomach.
He flung the sea cockroach away forcefully, feeling a burning sensation in his stomach that quickly turned into an unbearable, intense pain.
Overwhelmed with agony, Tarasha collapsed to her knees, clutching her chin with both hands, maintaining a posture as if she were about to vomit, and watched in horror as her abdomen was torn open from the inside.
Four sea cockroaches emerged from his body, shaking off the remaining flesh and blood, before turning their greedy gazes to the surrounding lizardman crowd. A terrified scream finally erupted from the crowd.
The first lizardman turned and ran, followed by the second and the third. Some fell to the ground, and soon dozens of feet trampled heavily over their backs, obscuring their vision with the dust kicked up and instantly staining it with cruel blood.
The nobles panicked and fled the square. As soon as they rushed into the alley, the Darkscale assassins, disguised as commoners, took advantage of the crowd to swarm forward and thrust their deadly blades into the nobles' chests and abdomens.
Although Lord Agor was surrounded by nobles, he was a prime target for the Darkscale assassins. He was stabbed multiple times on the spot and fell to the ground, on the verge of death.
It turns out the shamanic group... never intended to make peace with us in the first place...
His eyes were wide open in despair, his fingers twitching and curling in agony. The assassin pressed down on his back from behind and slit his throat with a sharp blade.
The Dragon Valley City Guards, who were supposed to protect the nobles, had long been in a state of chaos and commandlessness due to the death of their leader, Tarasha. Now, they could only run around like headless flies, following the panicked crowd.
Wailing, screams, trembling, and wailing filled Dia's ears with the cries for help from countless people. She looked around blankly, her eyes unfocused and lifeless, and she was on the verge of tears.
Why... did it turn out like this...?
"Watch out!" came Ellina's loud warning. Dia looked up sharply and saw lightning flash past her, turning several sea cockroaches that were attacking her into dust.
Raine grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the cliff, with Ellina close behind, constantly striking down any White Walkers that tried to get close with bolts of lightning.
Within minutes, the number of sea cockroaches had surged to dozens. The unsuspecting guards and civilians of Dragonvale were utterly powerless to stop the White Walkers' breeding and spread.
The three rushed to the edge of the cliff. Dia finally snapped out of her daze, tried to forcefully shake off Raine's hand, and cried out:
"Why did you lie to me! I trusted you so much... Why!"
“I’m not lying to you.” Raine pushed her onto the stone path leading to the Temple of Scales and said quickly, “Only when the common people see the White Walkers eating people will they believe the end is coming and be willing to flee Dragon Valley.”
“You could have let them see the White Walkers and then killed them!” Dia shouted angrily. “Many of them wouldn’t have had to die!”
“Impossible,” Renn retorted succinctly. “Ugly monsters and ruthless killers are two different things. The former only disgusts people, while the latter evokes fear. Fear is the quickest way to trigger a person’s survival instinct.”
"I won't listen! I won't listen! I won't listen!" Dia screamed hysterically. "Lies! It's all lies!"
"If you say another word, I'll strip you naked and throw you down there!" Renn grabbed her collar and snapped impatiently, "Let the White Walkers eat you alive!"
As expected, Dia was so frightened that she immediately shut up, her eyes filling with tears again.
“Lord Fahr,” Ellina suddenly said, “the city is now in chaos, and I believe no one in the lizardmen will doubt the existence of the White Walkers anymore. The first of the two questions has been perfectly resolved.”
"The second question is how to help Dragon Valley City deal with the White Walkers. Please fulfill your promise to Dia and provide the corresponding answer."
"That's right!" Dia finally came to her senses, her attitude immediately changing 180 degrees. She grabbed Renn's arm and pleaded, "Renn, please save them! You promised me, I traded two months of maid service for it!"
“Me, save them?” Ryan said firmly. “It was never me who was supposed to save them, it was you, Dia Scarlett.”
"You must become a true daughter of the dragon."
