Chapter 65 Scarf
Chapter 65 Scarf
Lin Ze finally received his aunt's call. He knew she would call eventually; it was just a matter of time.
A quiet one-bedroom apartment.
The two people lying in bed weren't sleepy at all. In fact, if they really wanted to fall asleep, they would have to consider the thunder and lightning outside, which was quite deafening.
buzz-
The phone vibrated a few times, and after it rang, Lin Ze quickly picked it up.
He did not answer the phone immediately.
He pushed Kitagawa Ayane aside without any tenderness, letting her roll over and fall to the corner of the small bed.
"Don't speak," Lin Ze instructed her.
Kitagawa nodded at him, but secretly glanced at the contact name on Lin Ze's phone. When she saw the name, her ears immediately perked up.
She never knew anything about Lin Ze, or rather, he never let her know any inside information. In her eyes, Lin Ze's identity had always been quite mysterious—although he was young, he could solve diseases that even professors couldn't handle, he was always reading books and had a meticulous mind, and he was calm in his actions.
It doesn't suit his age at all.
Kitagawa Ayane knew that Lin Ze was two years younger than her.
I can't believe how Lin Ze survived the first twenty years of his life to become such a rational, pragmatic, and even ruthless person.
Lin Ze pressed the answer button.
Then.
Kitagawa Ayane then heard an extremely pleasant woman's voice coming from the phone.
"I don't think you're planning to come back tonight?"
"Yes, I'm outside." Lin Ze did not deny it.
"I knew you left an hour ago, and I thought you'd be back soon. You brat, you'd better explain yourself properly, or you'll know what happens when you get back tomorrow." There was a faint air of authority in the woman's voice, the natural pressure an elder would exert over a younger person.
You can tell from the magnetism of her voice that she can't possibly be the same age as Lin Ze.
"I'm at a classmate's house. I have something important to do. I was planning to go back, but a typhoon hit," Lin Ze explained earnestly. "Don't worry about my safety. I'm getting ready to rest."
"You're quite nonchalant; it seems you don't think staying out all night is a serious matter," the woman sneered.
Lin Ze did not answer.
He knew Lin Yuning was already angry and he would inevitably get a scolding when he got home, but he wasn't too afraid. More important than that was putting his aunt at ease.
Because the two were speaking Chinese, Kitagawa Ayane couldn't understand everything, but she could grasp the general meaning.
"A female classmate, perhaps?" came a quiet voice from the other end of the phone.
"Yes," Lin Ze answered truthfully.
There was a pause.
Lin Yuning remained strangely silent for a while.
“You’ve always been a sensible child. There are some things I don’t need to point out to you. Remember this,” she said, her tone less cold and more concerned, “being sensible is being responsible for yourself and for others.”
"I see."
"Okay, let's hang up."
call ended.
Lin Ze put his phone aside and breathed a sigh of relief.
Kitagawa Ayane listened to the whole thing from the side, and then carefully crawled over, tiptoed and put her paws on his body, and continued to hug Lin Ze's arm.
The night was deep.
After making that call, he finally felt relieved and could get a good night's sleep.
"Was that your mother on the phone?"
"Don't ask questions you shouldn't ask. Go to sleep, it's getting late."
"Oh……"
The night melted into the boundless blur.
Listening to the sound of rain outside.
Gradually, both of them became sleepy.
……
The next day, at six o'clock in the morning.
The sky outside was still overcast, and Lin Ze woke up early.
That's how biological clocks are; once you've formed a habit over many years, it's very difficult to change it.
He didn't sleep as badly as he had imagined last night. Although the small bed was cramped, it provided good light blocking and a sense of security. He slept soundly until dawn without waking up.
When Lin Ze woke up, Kitagawa Ayane was still fast asleep, curled up in his arms with only half of her face showing. Her sleeping face was peaceful, and her complexion was much better than the night before. Even the lip line had regained its rosy color.
As he tried to move Kitagawa-senpai away, he suddenly felt a tingling or numb sensation in his hand, causing Lin Ze to frown.
He tried to reach out and extend his arm, and it took him a long time to gradually regain consciousness.
The curtains were drawn back.
Lin Ze habitually stood by the window and looked at the sky outside.
Tokyo remained gloomy.
On the desolate street, Lin Ze was jogging as usual.
Staying out all night doesn't break his exercise habit; on the contrary, once he gets used to it, he feels uncomfortable if he doesn't run and feels listless all day.
In the morning, he was too lazy to argue with Kitagawa Ayane. He put on his coat and shoes and left, leaving her sitting blankly on the bed, ignoring his attempts to stop her.
After the typhoon, the scene was a complete mess.
Many utility poles on the street had broken wires, lying haphazardly to the side. Thick, withered branches and leaves were scattered all over the ground. As he passed a street corner, he saw an old tree uprooted and smashed onto a Mitsubishi car parked next to it.
Without a doubt, the car was totaled, and the owner frantically contacted a crane.
The temperature is very low.
Lin Ze thought he should change into a thicker coat when he got back, as he had already felt cold when he went downstairs for his morning run.
Even without sunshine, the clouds in the sky remained thick.
He bought breakfast on the way and didn't forget to get one for Lin Yuning as well. This morning run was longer than the route he usually planned, and it took him about forty minutes to reach the street where Lin's Fried Pork Chop Shop was located.
Lin Ze, sweating slightly with beads of perspiration on his temples, went up to the second floor.
After taking a shower, changing clothes, and eating breakfast, he took out the ingredients for lunch from the refrigerator and put them in the kitchen. Before leaving, he knocked on Lin Yuning's door.
"I'm going to school." The words fell to the floor.
Lin Ze started walking, ready to embrace an incredibly fulfilling new day.
……
The University of Tokyo was not spared the typhoon's devastation either. Although it was not as severe as the streets outside, the tree-lined avenues were still littered with countless broken branches, and several benches were even damaged. The ornamental plants in the gardens were all swept away and scattered in disarray.
The school has already arranged for a considerable number of staff to begin cleaning and maintenance.
Lin Ze, wearing a thick black coat and carrying a bag, walked along the road, but he wasn't heading towards the classroom. Instead, he went to the meeting point outside the University of Tokyo Hospital.
When he arrived, there were already quite a few interns, but he didn't see Otomo Shoji or Yamazaki Yu.
On the chair that had just been wiped clean.
Miyagi Suzuo, Sano Chizuru, and Yumi sat together, chatting about how terrifying yesterday's torrential rain had been and how they hadn't slept well all night.
Clearly, Miyagi's mind wasn't on that; she kept glancing around, as if searching for someone.
Finally, when she saw Lin Ze walking over, her eyes lit up.
"Lin Zejun, over here..." She stood up and waved.
The members of the same group were naturally closer, so Lin Ze walked straight toward Miyagi and greeted him.
According to Section Chief Minamino, there will be something very important today, and everyone is not allowed to be late. Some interns who have connections with senior students have found out that this stage may be related to the assignment of departments. After all, they have already become familiar with what they need to be familiar with, and the next step is to send these valuable interns to their posts.
They officially became cattle and horses.
in the crowd.
Several boys gathered together, chewing gum.
Taro Mizuno was holding a straight tree branch and waving it around haphazardly. He used to say that he was very popular at the kendo dojo, but he didn't look like someone who knew kendo at all.
"Hey, how's my move—Crescent Moon Sky Rush!"
"Don't make me laugh, child."
Hiroshi Fuyuyama was among them. He squatted on the steps to the side, looking at the scene on the bench under the shade of the tree with a hint of resentment.
He felt particularly bad.
Because in her line of sight, Miyagi Suzuo was standing up with a shy smile, talking to Lin Ze, her petite body leaning forward and her cheeks raised.
She made no attempt to hide her affection for Lin Ze; the warmth in her eyes and brows changed whenever she saw him.
Suddenly, a pair of hands waved in front of Dongshan Hao.
"Still watching?"
He glanced at Goto.
"It's so annoying. Even if you have feelings for someone, you don't have to act like this. A goddess should have the aura of a goddess. This scene is heartbreaking to watch."
"Pfft—" Goto couldn't hold back for a second.
"Why are you paying attention to Goto? Fuyuyama has gone mad." Mizuno Taro shrugged.
"I just found it funny how he looked, both heartbroken and unable to stop watching."
"Then you can laugh all you want," Hiroshi Fuyuyama said noncommittally.
Having been classmates for over two years, the class representative, Miyagi Suzuo, never smiled at any other boy; her attitude was always consistent. That's why she was so sacred and inviolable in Fuyuyama Hiroshi's eyes.
But Miyagi Suzuo's recent behavior has really pained him.
Why is he so eager to be with Lin Ze alone? While it must be admitted that the other party is indeed outstanding, it's far from enough to warrant such attentiveness.
They never consider the feelings of bystanders.
He was furious.
He clenched his fists, and a flame ignited in his eyes.
However, the flames went out after a short while because he was no match for Lin Ze, as the height difference alone was more than ten centimeters.
"Fuyuyama still doesn't understand. Who doesn't like the class representative? She comes from a good family and is so beautiful, but that doesn't mean anything," Goto patted him on the shoulder and said seriously, "You have to be more realistic. Give up."
"Why?"
“Of course it’s because they don’t even know your name,” Mizuno Taro said bluntly. “Last time, Yumi told me that she heard it from Chizuru-san that the class representative doesn’t even know who you are.”
"Really? That's terrible, bro." Goto covered his cheek.
“In other words,” Mizuno also looked at Lin Ze and said calmly, “in Miyagi’s eyes, we are all the same. She only has eyes for Lin Ze. Once she realizes this, it will be easy for her to give up her illusions.”
Not far away, on Lin Ze's side.
He sat on the bench with his schoolbag on his back.
"Wait for me after school at noon. I brought gifts for you and Qianhe. The weather is getting cooler, so it's time to wear scarves. I specially picked a style that suits Lin Zejun. Try it on and see if it fits."
"What gift?" Lin Ze asked.
"Of course, it's the first gift of autumn."
"no need."
“It’s alright, they’re not very valuable, just two scarves. Chizuru-san has already accepted them,” Miyagi Suzuo said, tugging at Sano Chizuru’s hand. “You like them, don’t you?”
"Ah...yes, thanks to Miyagi-san. As a fellow group member, this is just her way of showing friendliness."
"Okay, but I don't have much time at noon."
"I'll go get it as soon as possible."
Seeing that Lin Ze had agreed, Miyagi Suzuo quickly said.
Her eyes immediately curved into crescent moons, and she gave Lin Ze a shy smile, loosening her grip on her back.
The weather has indeed turned cooler.
A few days ago, Miyagi Suzuo had been thinking of giving Lin Ze a hand-knitted scarf. Seeing him wearing it would make her so happy, but she knew she would be rejected if she asked.
She understood Lin Ze's personality.
So, Chizuru did indeed buy that one.
Lin Ze's piece took her more than twenty days to knit. Although she asked her mother for help during the process, she did most of it herself.
It's a small lie, it doesn't matter.
At this moment, Miyagi Suzuo was already filled with anticipation for what Lin Ze would look like with the scarf on.
